— andy Here's a roundup of the morning's headlines on the jobless claim figures released by BLS today.
CNN: Jobless claims fall to four-year low
CBS: Jobless claims fall to lowest level since '08
Reuters: Jobless claims fall to lowest in four and a half years
Bloomberg: Jobless Claims in U.S. Fall to Four-Year Low
Chicago Tribune: New jobless claims plunge to 4 1/2-year low
And on, and on. Break out the bubbly and the top hats and tails; happy days are here again.
Oh, wait! Those rightwing nutjobs at Faux News noticed something in the details of the report that makes the gold in them thar hills look a little more like iron pyrite.
STRANGE: Jobless Claims Sank to 339,000 in Latest Week, Though Data Didn't Include One Large State
Well now. A large drop when comparing apples and oranges is pretty meaningless, isn't it? So where were all those other guys in noting that the data is bad and the real change from prior ... oh, right.
I'd bet everything I own and then some that those headlines would've been markedly different if, say, a Republican was in the White House.
And anybody notice a missing word up there? What the hell happened to "unexpectedly"? This was so huge a change from the expectations of a 2,000 claim drop that you'd think they'd be blaring this in all the headl ... what? that doesn't help the President? ... oh, right.
Now, I'm not saying that BLS is cooking the books. But is there a reason to release this incomplete data without putting a gigantic asterisk by it to help the meticulously objective lapdog media not leap to the wrong conclusion about it?
Well, I can think of one. And only one.
But don't fret, the correction to those ever-so-helpful headlines will appear on page A26.
Score another victory for Jack Welch.
The Obama campaign and its supporters, including bigwigs like David Axelrod and Robert Gibbs, along with several cable TV anchors, would like you to believe that BLS data are handled like the gold in Fort Knox, with gun-carrying guards watching their every move, and highly trained, white-gloved super-agents counting and recounting hourly....
Bottom line: To suggest that the input to the BLS data-collection system is precise and bias-free is—well, let's just say, overstated.

CNBC was all over these bogus numbers this morning and said nobody should rely on them for anything. Next week's numbers should be better.
The stock market is NOT up on these numbers, there are a lot of other things going on, most notably a signal from the EU that the Basel III rules may be delayed for a year and a couple of strong IPOs, plus a lot of buying on yesterday's dip.

It's just so unfair how Faux News makes all those other news outlets rush their good-news-for-Obama stories out without reading the details, and then smacks them upside the head with them later.
Isn't that against the law? If not, I think Obama should issue an executive order requiring Faux News to do the same half-assed lickspittle job of reporting as everyone else!

Amazing...the Labor Department admitted that there WAS A LARGE STATE missing from the numbers....LOL!!!..I am sure next week it will be revised when the numbers creep back to 360,000 to 375,000 with a Noted revision the week before was adjusted upward by 30,000 due to one LARGE STATE not reporting their numbers! Of course that will not be a headline.
First every state KNOWS THE DEADLINE and if a State is missing...hold the report a day until the information comes? BUT NO we want the headline....LOL!! Folks people see this as being fake.
HAS ANYONE SEEN AN UPTICK in the polls for Obama since Fridays creation of 800,000 jobs? Remember that headline? Which was a much bigger deal? This is a headling most people do not even pay attention to...but the minute you find ONE LARGE STATE MISSING...boom it becomes political! Sorry if 800,000 (part-time) jobs being created does not move the dial for Obama this will do nothing. It is a joke and a disgrace!
Over at Drudge he already has the Headline....One Large State Missing from BLS numbers today!
Sorry BLS you can give a 5 minute high but it is already gone! I would bet money either California, New York or Illinois(CHICAGO THUG CENTRAL) just happened to miss the deadline. I would bet their numbers would have put the real count over 370,000 and they did not want that to steal the NO THUNDER from his phony jobs report on Friday!
I hope Biden says that to Ryan...Oh Joe by the way? Which state did not make THE KNOWN WEEKLY DEADLINE FOR THE PAST DECADES to get their numbers in? Do you think the number would be higher? Bam Biden destroyed!
Oh....Newsmax/Zogby Poll from Ohio out today a hour ago....Obama lead is down to 1 point.....45/44....he is down across the board....the same poll had Obama up by 9 points before the debate....He is down to 1 and this poll was done the 8-10 of Oct....And Guess what NO DEM SAMPLE PLUS 11 like NBC tried to BS today...even NBC noted their bias sample...how pathetic! NBC should as should Rasmussen announce how they have increased their female sample by 2-4 percent. Zogby has pretty good breakdown for Ohio in sample and used over 848 Likely Voters...but it shows why anything from NBC is just trash!
Yes ladies and gentlemen...Ras is using a PLUS 3 DEM SAMPLE in its national poll...NOT PLUS R anything....even though they show Rs with 4 point adv in numbers. Ras is using the historical Dem Adv....and he has increased his female sample 2-3 percent from 2008....THAT IS WHY RASMUSSEN has the race tied. Scott is playing with numbers as well including not using his own partisan breakdown and instead using historical...totally discounting the R adv in his own registration numbers and he has disaproportionally increased females over males by 2-3 percent. Not sure where he is getting this....but there is no way the electorate will be 55/45 or 54/46 like he is using female/male. Keep that in mind when you see anything from Ras...I hope Scott man's up and stops playing....Even Unskewed Polls is wondering about Ras.....Why would Ras poll registrations where he has Plus 4 Repub but then turn around and use Plus 3 Dem Sample? Maybe he should not poll then since he only cares about historical numbers?

Address them on the same day they're released, and address them with truth, honesty, and merciless force. He must find a way to work this story into the conversation, and point out that someone is cooking the books, and that the media is carrying that water.

There is a lot of wisdom in children's stories and The Boy That Cried Wolf is coming to mind right now.
I also think that Romney's election and some selective vigorous prosecutions next spring will go a long way toward discouraging this kind of behavior in the future. Remember, these lib idiots thought they set themselves up for domination for 25 years+ when Obama was elected. The talk of "realignment" was on the lips of every lib in the press...until 2010.
Obama is like a vaccine for the body politic. We get pretty sick when we get vaccinated as kids only to forestall deadly illness later in life. America has to get a dose of socialism/fascism every generation or two to protect us from the full-on disease, a la Germany in the 1930s.
Wilson was probably our most fascist president, although Obama is giving him a run for his money.
The American people saw through the UE #. Hence, the libs going back to the well once more with this manipulation. The American people will see through it, too.
These fuckers are desperate now.
Be not afraid.

It's projection, writ large. They've convinced themselves that this is the way it always works.
THIS.
It's why they steadfastly insist that, e.g., the Tea Party is astroturfed. Why? Because if it supported the Reds, it would have been astroturfed. (See the "Coffee Party.")
The possibility that a group of honest, patriotic, hard-working American taxpayers might individually draw a conclusion on their own (without the intercession of the SEIU, OFA, or CPUSA, but I repeat myself) doesn't occur to them. They'd sooner believe that Tea Party members had two heads.

Shep Smith's were too.
In a tweet late yesterday...she said it 'will be like casual Friday' unless they find her bags.
I wonder if Delta has found their bags yet?
Posted by: wheatie at October 11, 2012 12:55 PM (l5RhJ)
Gee. I wonder if that's a coincidence? Fox News personalities have their luggage lost. Heading to a VP debate where the Democrat is expected to get his ass handed to him on an arrow.
Luggage must've been handled by the old lady bus driver that wishes children of Romney supporters aborted.

157 Megan is on now....she's wearing clothes much to the dismay of many morons, I'm sure.
------
160....They don't sell clothes in Ky.?
------
161....Riiiiight, because there's nowhere to purchase women's clothing in Lexington. Fucking coastal snobs.
------
Looks like someone went out and 'discovered' that there are clothing stores in Kentucky.
Heh.
Or maybe Delta found her bags.
Apparently Sheppie was the one who was the most upset.
He said something like...."There ain't no show without that bag".

The only way to bet those TSA creeps is don't carry anything on, and don't check any baggage. If you need stuff where you're going, mail it to the hotel ahead of time.

Megyn Kelly's luggage was lost, by Delta airlines, on her way to Kentucky yesterday...to cover the debate.

I absolutely do not have Megyn's luggage. I am almost certainly not currently wearing her panties. No one can prove otherwise.
O/T thank god the 31 days is over

True story:
I was in an airport bathroom taking care of some unpleasant food in my stomach when my final call came. Final call was only broadcast in the gate, not the bathroom. I arrived at the 10 minute "doors locked" time and was denied boarding. I missed my flight. Next flight wasn't till the next day. I let the boarding crew know that I was unhappy and my being there with 10 minutes remaining should've allowed me to board as the ticket says "10 minutes prior."
The next day, I was there early, boarded my plane and was promptly delayed for 25 minutes because they were waiting on A PIECE OF LUGGAGE! I was denied boarding, but we'll hold EVERYONE UP 25 minutes for a fucking bag.
What's more important, Delta? The CUSTOMERS or ONE BAG.
I've never flown Delta since. And I used to travel a LOT back then.

I think he meant "snow."
Also- here's hoping the bag stays lost, then.

I had the same thought, Sponge.
It's not that far, from NY to KY....so I would think that it was a direct flight, without any stops.
Which is how luggage usually gets lost, during a plane change.

One of the 3 things:
1. Do not report that month altogether. (poor choice)
or
2. Project a trend for the missing state, based on the trend in all the remaining states data for the last time point (taking into consideration what the missing state has done in the past - assumptions have to be made and explicitly stated for the reader of the report).
or
3. Prepare an alternative trend for at least the last 12 months, by going back and removing that state from the dataset in each of the 12 months. This way you are comparing apples to apples. Please don't tell me that the breakdown by state is not ALREADY available for the past year.
Do you know when you do not even mention the state that's missing data? When you are hiding something.

Eh. That happens when an airline plans on using one aircraft, then have to use another of a different size or configuration (scheduled aircraft didn't arrive, had a mechanical problem, etc). Be happy they didn't just cancel your flight.

I used to fly Delta from New York to Moscow, but I got tired of the attitude of the flight attendants. Now I go out of my way to Houston to take the Singapore Airlines flight there - which, by the way, is the nicest flight you'll ever take.

"It was likely a state with a large population and we suspect that it was California based on the occasional massive swings that have occurred in its claims data in the past," said Daniel Silver, economist at JPMorgan, in a note to clients.
What a surprise! Not the fudge, that CNN actually (kinda) mentioned it.

Yup. Even back in the 70's when I was doing a lot of flying, when I flew Delta and reached my destination, I didn't go to the baggage conveyer. I went directly to baggage claim. They were that bad.

In the mid '80s, Delta was known to have the loosest flight attendants in the sky. Just buy them dinner so they didn't have to tap their per deim.
Now, the same women are still flying.
