— Dave in Texas Because none of us gives a rats ass about them, and in fact it will irritate you all that I even put up a post about it.
All that hate's gonna burn you up kid.
What's your favorite movie and why? Like I care. It's your favorite movie, not my favorite movie. Besides you have to classify them in genres and stuff, like "dramas" or "cartoons". If you just have one favorite movie you're a window-licker and nobody needs to hear you talk about it.
I'd tell you mine but I don't even like movies. Cept for Patton, or Dr. Strangelove. I liked those. I kinda liked Star Wars when Han shot first.
That's about it I guess. Oh, the chicks will want to talk about what the women are wearing. Go for it. Be catty.

Let me say this for the lurking liberals and pantywaists who despise the military.
My favorite movie was one I stared in where we compatriots fired WP into a Vietnamese village and burned it to the ground. Oh yeah, we also sent a big round of whoop-ass to the idiots who fired on us. No apologies, just a steady diet of death from the sky.

I like the new Borgia series on netflix by the guys from the wire. Liked it better than the Jeremy Irons version. Oh.. movies you see at the thee-ater. No, don't bother now that the kids have grown. I don't remember when I last went to one. TV shows are still pretty awesome, movies - meh.
I like Patton, too. Let's just give it another award for still being awesome.

Movies would be good if they weren't all made in Hollywood by pedophile lefties who fill them with propoganda and want to end you and your way of life and turn your kids into their sex slaves.
So... fuck them all.

Not when I do it.
Okay favorite movies. Number one is Some Like It Hot. Marilyn in those dresses is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy. This is followed by Pulp Fiction, The Thin Man, Infernal Affairs, Hard Boiled, Leon, The Incredibles, Die Hard, The Princess Bride and Dark City.

African Queen (No, it's not about a gay black guy, you pervs..)
True Grit - the original, not the remake
The Bells of St. Mary - Bing Crosby at his finest, bar none..
The Outlaw Josie Wales
As to anything more modern, well, not so much to choose from there, but probably:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy - my youngest still refers to this as the "talking tree movie" - she loved that part as a child.
Firefly - really enjoyed the TV show as well - nothing better than a good action flick that can make fun of itself.

Followed by Godfather 1 & 2, Fargo, Dr. Strangelove, LOTR series, Raising Arizona, Groundhog Day, Sunset Boulevard, Rear Window, Psycho... lots more I can't think of right now.
But Mulholland rules them all.

Liberals always say we have to be "tolerant", when what they really WANT is unquestioning acceptance and accommodation.
Here's what I have to say to them:
"Tolerance" means we agree to disagree, and as long as you don't shove your agenda in my face/down my throat, we'll get along just fine.
You start telling me that I HAVE to accept your lifestyle choices and/or make accommodations for your peccadilloes means that we are going to be in conflict.
Tolerance is a two-way street.

>>We're thinking of "cutting the cord," but I'm worried about things like calling a bank and having to work my thru a dial tone menu, etc.
I haven't, for a couple reasons. One is that I like knowing that it will work when the power is out, the cell towers are down, etc. etc. (and yes, I have two old fashioned phones that work without power).
I also don't like holding my cell phone for long conversations and don't find the quality as good as the land line, even with a new phone. Instapundit linked a device that holds your cell phone and lets you use one or more handsets around the house.
And I have had the same cell phone number for 10 years, so it's a diff. area code and I'd probably want to make it a local number if it was our "home" number.

In keeping with an idea possibly originated by H. Allen Smith in a little book called Rhubarb, I would like to suggest some changes to the show format.
First, booby-trap the aisle, and turn out the lights when the winner has to walk to the stage. Put the traps at different levels so that some of them are actually booby traps.
Second, insert small amounts of explosives into random statuettes.
Third, electric shocks for the host every time a joke falls flat.
Fourth, you know how they use random pretty people to fill seats so that the hall never looks less than full? Give some of them rabid Rottweilers and then dare anyone to try to cross in front of the seat-filler to pick up an award.
Fifth, for anyone who is afraid of the Rotties, toss the award to them. Whoever catches it gets it, complete with his own name engraved for whatever the real winner did.
You get the idea.

Princess Bride is still a guilty pleasure, I must admit - probably because I'm old enough that I remember all of those fairy tale stories that it pokes fun at, and I have to give serious props to Andre the Giant. I had been a fan for years, I remember meeting him as a kid. To see him act in a movie in which he really more or less played himself.. well, hard to beat for me.
"You mean you put down your rock and I put down my sword and we try and kill each other like civilized people?"
"It's not my fault that I'm the biggest and the strongest, I don't even exercise"..

It's one of those magnet films that draws me in every time I see it on the channel listing.
Should I ever scroll through and see The Godfather (I or II), Groundhog Day, Aliens, and Clueless all playing at the same time, my head would surely explode for trying to decide between them.

Heh. But yes, "The Postman" was underrated. It was overlong, but underrated, still. If someone had EDITED Kevin Costner's story, it would have been better remembered.
I have a soft spot for "Cutthroat Island", on the subject of massive Hollywood fail. Somehow I managed to see it in the two weeks before the studio yanked it. I still think it's better than all those stupid CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW money-rakers.

Someone's probably already said this by now, since my favorite movies (Debbie Does Dallas, Shaving Ryan's Privates, and Anal Adventures #24) have already been listed. Missing are Asswoman in Wonderland, Virtual Pleasure Ranch, and Scottish Loveknot.
That's some quality film-making right there in THAT list, buckaroos.
Actually, there's quite a few euro-dominated Private titles that are entertaining -- so our Porn Industrial mavens in San Bernadino (or where-ever) need to step up their game to keep our American porn the best in the world. We need to eliminate the bimbo-gap between us and Europe!

I have a hard time with Ganster movies - I knew some people who had been terrorized by real life gansters. So I don't glamorize these scumbags myself, nor do I envy there life style. I don't see them as heroes.
I remember the end scene from Goodfella's where Hill is whining about how he has to just live his life as an average schnook from now on, to which I kept thinking, you know what? If there were any justice in the world you'd be buried in an unmarked grave next to one of your many victims, you piece of shit.

The version of this that I saw was not by Clint Eastwood; but it did in actual point of fact feature two mules for sister Sarah. I think it was filmed in Tijuana. The production values weren't all that high and the plot, such as it was, was rather predictable so frankly I'm surprised anyone would mention it here.

It's really good. The creator Julian Fellows is a conservative (Brit version so sorta soft) but the show is not lefty, the fucking earl is the good guy, the communist looks bad, people have morals and hard work is rewarded. Generally, even if you can imagine how rotten life would have to be where doing that kind of thing in public was your last viable option, and then consider how attractive (or not so) such a life would leave you, you would still be shocked at how unappealing the whole thing is. Was always kind of partial to El Dorado myself, you know the one where Robert Mitchum plays the drunken sheriff and John Wayne and James Caan help him arrest the brother of the local cattle baron that owns the town.
So much better than Rio Lobo, in which Dean Martin plays the drunken sheriff and John Wayne and Ricky Nelson help him arrest the brother of the local cattle baron that owns the town.. lol
Best part about a John Wayne movie, you watch it just to watch John Wayne being John Wayne. Though honestly to of my favorite Duke movies - Big Jake, and Hellfighters.

I did enjoy Citizen Kane, a lot. The editing is chronological, but takes about five passes over the same story, getting deeper every time. Even Andrew Brietbart will never get under the skin of media people the way Orson Welles gauled Hearst. "Rosebud" was what he called his girlfriend's cl**.
Casino Royale: If you make other Bond movies look thoughtless and silly in comparison, you've done it right.
Australia: Should have been warned off by the ADD addled movies by the same director. Pleasantly surprised, he made a movie with a very solid story structure.
Kill Bill 1 and 2: Tarintino respects how hard it is to be an action director.

I like a lot of movies that weren't huge hits, just had quirky or unexpectedly good acting by what they called "character actors" or B film actors.
Now that's odd. We've always heard about charactor actors, but character actresses? Maybe actor is meant unisex here, never noticed before...

Gene Hackman in The Conversation. Great director (Coppola) and great cast: John Cazale, Frederick Forrest, Cindy Williams, Teri Garr, Harrison Ford (!)
John Cazale reminds me of The Deer Hunter. Epic.

RE: home phone vs. cell. I use a cell phone to communicate, but have a home phone in the form of MagicJack -- sort of an IP phone USB device -- so I can deflect all the telemarketing, etc., to my "home phone."
Nice thing about MJ is voicemail is emailed to you as .wav attachment. You never have to answer the thing if you don't want, and its around $30 a year.

Although everyone seems to think "The Artist" is great and everything. I'll probably see it when it hits DVD.
Even the Harry Potter folks thought "The Artist" was OK:

Having said that, IMHO Stanley Kubrick was the last, least PC, most "real man" of a director Hollywood's ever had (that wasn't also a raging alcoholic, a la Sam Peckinpah).

The woman was corrupt, not psycho; she was in the tank for Romney. The black guy had a number of problems, but rape was NOT one of them, and so the attacks on him were just tragic. But the Texan was, indeed, dumb.

My favorite movie is "Santa Sangre" a mexican independent film. Mutants, mongoloids, excessive drinking and clowns. The film's producer was almost killed escaping the Alcupulco film festival after that was shown.
I also love Japanese splatter films, like Ichi The Killer, Machine Girl.
The best kung fu movie of all time is The One-Armed Boxer Vs The Flying Gillotine.

Aside from those two, "Wait Until Dark" w/ Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin is one of the great great thrillers.

For my dad, it was this moment in Cary Grant's "Father Goose":
Walter ([Cary Grant] trying to teach Leslie Caron to fish with her hands): Hey, here she comes.
Catherine [Leslie]: How do you know it's a "she"?
Walter: Her mouth is open. Now be quiet.
(My father practically fell off the couch at that exchange, he was laughing so hard)

Mangas, I remember that -- a TV-movie adaptation of a very funny novel by, I think, Joyce Rebeta-Burditt. I recall a line in the novel when a doctor is asking the narrator/lead, Cassie (Natalie's role), about any physical problems with her sexual activity:
Doctor: "Do you ever get irritated?"
Cassie: "Only when he . . . Never mind."

What in the world is wrong with you dumb f*ckin' morons? 575 posts, and just one mention of Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Only 2 mentions of Dog Day Afternoon? 2 for Raging Bull? 2 or 3 for the Deer Hunter? 3 or 4 for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?
No mentions of:
The French Connection
Serpico
Scarface
The Warriors
Up In Smoke
Next Movie
This Is Spinal Tap
Cannonball Run
Get a hold of yourselves you miserable, low-life, pathetic, shut-in, sons-a-b!tches! I can relate to how obsessive compulsive hobo hunting is, but f*ckin' A! Try something else every once in a while. Scavenge your damn sofa cushions for loose change, go buy yourself a case of half gallon bottles of Value-Rite vodka, and spend the next couple of weekends renting and watching the movies in this post. All of them are arguably at the top of their genres.
Take hold of the immortal wisdom from The Hollywood Shuffle and, "Please, please, please, just get your sh!t together."

It's called "Fear of a Black Hat," and it's a rap satire, and it's incredibly funny. It vanished without a trace originally because it was released opposite another rap satire that had Chris Rock in it, and this one had no famous actors (although it did have a guy who was in Revenge of the Nerds, in a very different character).
It's crude and profane, yes, but it's also subtle in many spots, with a lot of clever writing. The whole thing purports to be a documentary by an earnest female grad student. In one scene, the group's lead, Ice Cold, explains to the earnest grad student about the group's name, N!ggas with Hats.
"You see, we've got a whole hat philosophy. Back when there was slaves and stuff, brothers worked out in the hot sun all day, HATLESS. So at the end of the day, they was too tired to rebel against they masters. What we're saying with N!ggas with Hats, is, hey, we got some HATS now, motherfuckers!"
The guy who wrote it also stars. Check it out.
