— Ace Disagreeing with Obama's "You didn't build that" rhetoric.
Adam Carolla is particularly sensitive to that, given he has literally built his own studio and his own podcast network. And has written several books about working hard if you really intend to be wealthy (as opposed to just wishing you were wealthy).
“I believe Barack Obama is a smart guy and I believe he is a skillful politician and I think he wants to get re-elected,” Carolla said. “And it’s pretty simple where you do these kinds of things where you go, ‘Look, are there more rich people in this world or in this union or more poor people?”Carolla explained there was a difference between being the hardest worker versus being smart and working hard and that Obama was wrong for not making that distinction.
...
Later, the comedian called the philosophy Obama espoused “anti-American” for not recognizing that distinction.
“It is an anti-American — and again I don’t mean that in a terrorist sort kind of way, but this country is sort of built on pull yourself up, start your shit, stake your claim, do your thing, innovation,” he said. “The folks that made it, so-called made, and again I don’t know why we’re obsessed with success, but the folks that have made it had help along the way — not necessarily true in many instances. Yes, you can count being delivered at a hospital that running water, electricity and you can count roads that worked.”
He said this in the July 18th podcast (guest Dave Dameshek, if you're looking for it in the list). You can also download the podcast here. The discussion of "You didn't build it" starts around twelve minutes in, after he gets done talking about how hot Kate Beckinsale is. Correction: It starts virtually ten minutes in, and runs about twenty minutes.

I believe Barack Obama is a smart guy
I stopped reading there. He is not "smart" he is an Affirmative Action President who is only in the White House because of his race. There is no evidence whatsoever that he is "smart" except that it constantly repeated over and over again to the extent that even conservatives believe he's some sort of evil genius. In reality, he's just some hack obviously in over his head.

Do you know how bad Underworld 2 was? It had Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman having sex and I was bored out of my mind. That bad.
As far as that other topic, yup. The American way of life is that you may be knocked down and bad shit may happen to you but if you pick yourself up and dust yourself off you at least have a chance of getting back on your feet. Most other places in the world you'll never have a chance to even try.
As always, give me back every drink, every party, every person, every pair of shoes, etc. that I've given up and then we'll talk about what I owe in return.

Yeah, except "all of us" aren't in charge. That's the second problem of collectivism. The first is the tragedy of the commons -- that people don't take care of what they don't own. The second is the fact that those with political power are the ones who are really in control of the things "we all own".
The founders knew this and this was before Marx.

Bammy's contention that no one is successful on their own is absurd and deeply disturbing. Ask anyone who ever had to do a group project in school and ended up doing all the work themselves because the other idiots couldn't be bothered to lift a finger. Bammy was clearly one of the lazy idiots and NOT the one who did the work.

A year later X has received a raise for doing a good job, he is now up to $40K. Y is dreaming about working at a "non-profit" that does environmental stuff while living at his parent's house. A few more years go by and X has caught the attention of his company's competitor and they lure him away with $80K salary and a company car, he also decides to buy his first house with the money has saved for a 30% down payment. Meanwhile Y has been laboring away at Starbucks making minimum wage and complaining about how unfair capitalism is with his friends.
A few more years go by and X has decided to start his own consulting company with a handful of people he has met in his area of expertise through networking. The first 3 years, X lives of of his savings and puts everything he earns back into the company. Y is working at Dutch Bros because the people at Starbucks are all assholes.
X has now had his business for 10 years and he usually takes home about $200K per year. He and his partners have 25 people working for them. He lives in a 4500 SF home and drives a Mercedes and is married with 2 kids. Y is working at Seattle's Best because the people at Dutch Bros are all assholes. He has 3 roommates.
5 more years go by and X has been investing in real estate and small businesses and has sold off his share of his company for $10 million. Y is now working at 7-11 because the people at Seattle's Best are all assholes. He and his friends are part of the occupy "movement".
Of course X's success was due to the fact that his company used public roads and they mailed stuff using the post office, and he went to public school. This is basically the story of the ant and the grasshopper.

Beck talked about this last week. The leftists, right now, own our language. Political Correctness is the core. He said that whoever owns the language, wins. It's time to start fighting for it.

@129, Alex
That's what I thought too.....that Carolla was saying "I'm not acusing him of being an anti-American terrorist".....just being anti-American in general.

The funny thing about this story is that Y had just as many opportunities as X. His own self destructive behavior doomed him. It could easily have been written as:
"Y labors at Starbucks for minimum wage for a year while sharing an apartment with three roommates. Y works hard and next year applies for an assistant manager position with the recommendation of his manager. He is promoted, and earns $35k a year. Two years later he is selected for a store manager position based on his performance and attitude...
After turning around a failing store, Y is moved into the regional director's office in order to gain experience at that level...
Y leaves the company after 10 years after he is recruited by a management consulting firm for twice his current salary."

All of which goes to prove that the purpose of fairy tales and fables -- to teach lessons about right and wrong, action and consequence, morality and immorality -- is still going strong to this day.
But they were all written by old white guys, so I'm sure the progressives are trying their damndest to make sure that no one ever reads "The Lion and the Mouse" ever again.

UV's comment, even so, holds. A question. What is a terrorist's main goal? Isn't it to "terrorize" and create either short-term or long-term chaos? Now, please review in your thoughts the last 3+ years of the SCOAMT regime.

That would be grand. I really do need to make it to a meetup somewhere. It is has been too long since I've seen members of the Horde.

I wonder what happened to all those hyperventilations about that trumped up womanizing? For some strange reason, that particular outrageous outrage has subsided. It's just so curious what with him not applying for the Executive office anymore that it's still not a concern with the righteous, truth-seeking MFM.

Yup, and not surprising. Studies have shown that poor people often have issues with self control and delayed gratification that keep them poor. If you can't show up to a job on time, can't work with others even if they annoy you, can't save your money in any appreciable amount and can't settle down and avoid reckless behavior, then you're not going to go far in life.

You are now owned by those you couldn't bring yourself to face. And you will work for them for the rest of your life. It appears to me that you do not yet understand the cause of your discomfiture. Hope this helps.
I understand your bitterness, and pity it. As an aside, this particular philosophy major worked full-time for six years to complete that course of study, never incurred any student debt, went to Europe at age 42 to take my dad to the anniversary of his Rhine crossing, and retired at 50 on my investments. Now punch in and get back to work, and take a shower. I can smell your fail from here.

Sam Delaney wrote an SF book "Babel 17" about a language that was set up so that once you learned it and started thinking in it, it turned you into a terrorist for the bad guys.
