It's not that Leslie Stahl and the rest of her cohort is on "the other side", but the whole idea of treating these people harshly makes her feel "icky". It upsets her sensibilities.
War is harsh business, very harsh. We think we have taken the harsh stuff out with precision munitions that reduce "collateral damage". But that is science fiction.
As Clint said in "The Unforgiven", "It's a terrible thing to kill a man. It takes away all he was and all he ever will be."
Leslie and the adult children with whom she runs with forget just how harsh things are sometimes. They forget the mass murders that took place in Iraq before Saddam was deposed. They forget the harsh killing of Afghans when the Russians tried to subdue the country in the '80's (and it was nothing like that stupid movie "Charlie Wilson's War").
They forget how cruel the Taliban were as they settled the end of the Afghan Civil War which took place after the Soviets left. Shooting someone in the head because the violated a harsh version of Sharia law.
But being harsh with a bunch of international terrorists that were involved in murdering 3000 Americans and assorted other nationalities on Sept 11, 2001 makes Leslie Stahl feel "icky" Because she is the end product of 240 years of a Constitutional Republic that valued the rule of law over the rule of the jungle and harsh government autocratic power. She and her tribe believe that "lawfare" is going to tame the savages that rampage about in the Muddled East and elsewhere in the name of the Prophet Mohammed, trying to do again what they have done for over 1400 years. Spread Islam at the point of the sword or the barrel of a gun - a bunch of gangsters on Razza. But Leslie Stahl and lawfare are going to fix that.
Right.
I'm sad that Leslie Stahl is made to feel icky about how some people feel we should wage a limited war against Salafist Islam, but after writing this little rant, I really don't feel much about Leslie Stahl or the rest of her limp-wristed pillow - biter friends. I really don't care much about what she thinks at all, because franky, I don't think she really thinks. At all.

Idea is to force people to use reusable bags.
Eco-nazis say it's a "myth" that the reusable bags are unsanitary even though studies show they quickly become infested with e.coli.
Eco high priests say just use common sense and:
1) Use separate bags for fresh fruit, dairy, and meat products.
2) Regularly wash your bags.
3) Don't store your bags in a warm or moist environment.
*****
I LOVE my reusable bags. I put 3 full plastic bags inside of them to lessen the number of trips from the car.

Isn't there an aquifer to the north being depleted to ship water to Southern California?
Isn't that worse than plastic bags (which are made from the by-products of natural gas production...waste not, want not)?

It isn't just Kalifornia. Brownsville, TX. already passed a ban and Austin is heading that way.
Believe it or not, if all Texas went plastic bag free, it would cost about 9000 jobs.
If I have it right, Austin's plan would still allow paper bags but with a fee. I'm guessing this is going to wind up as just another tax.

So les lie condemns Bush for the policies that made terrorists uncomfortable enough to give up some info that led us to Osama. And the left sings praises to Obama for reaping the fruits of those policies. Not just icky, but very sick.

LOL. It was a myth that got the whole BAN PLASTIC BAGS BECAUSE THEY STRANGLE FISHIES started in the first place. Like the UN's lies about melting glaciers and the "science" of it, some jerk misread a paper and thought that fish the world over were sinking to the bottom with plastic grocery bags over their heads and six-pack plastic doodads tying them in knots.
It was all a typical leftist lie, but it lives. Just like evil human global warming crap. Panetta just tried to leverage the global warming scam to divert our military resources, once again. And at this late date when everyone knows the idiocy and fraud that is "climate research".
Sacagawarren really missed her calling. She's got "climate scientologist" written over 1/32 of her.

I was thinking more like, buy a pack of 1000 generic shopping bags on Amazon, take the pack into the store and bag the groceries in them. Icing on that would be one bag per item. Then after you get out of prison, write a book.

The gucci grocery store in my neighborhood has ones with handles which is even better, very popular around Christmas time when you know you're going to have presents to tote to the family get-together.
I ask for paper if I suspect the checker-outer is a 'save the earther' just to piss them off.

But taking crackers to work for lunch and then using the baggie to take crackers to work for lunch a second day is different than buying fruit or meat and watching a cashier put it on a counter that just held someone else's nasty meat-juice infused canvas hippie bag.

The claims of environmental damage from discarded bags is one of the most ridiculously exaggerated myths of the environwacko movement. There is no widespread damage to animals or fish, and they do not cause floods in Bangladesh (but even if they did, that wouldn't be a reason not to use them in LA).
Pretty much all of the claims of the greenies are just plain false, ever since Rachel Carson's Silent Spring whopper that DDT caused weakened bird eggshells.
Posted by: Adjoran at May 05, 2012 11:36 AM (VfmLu)
I've long reused all my plastic bags. They are great little trash bags after you get the stuff home and it's good to have a bunch around for whenever you need to bag something up. And they don't take up any space.
Lately, however, many of the plastic bags seem to come with little holes in the bottom, which precludes their use as garbage bags (you know, for little wastebaskets and the like), Now, that is a waste.

They hate us because they hate their themselves and they blame their self-hate on their fathers. Liberals have major problems dealing with their fathers. That gets projected onto everyone and everything that reminds them of their fathers and they want to destroy it.

"They hate us because they hate their themselves and they blame their self-hate on their fathers."
This is what drives me nuts about some conservatives, you're buying into the liberal narrative about this. They don't give a fuck about our lifestyle or because of self loathing or anything other superficial reason. They hate us because their religion dictates it, the end. When you ignore that you're giving Islam a pass.

Thank goodness because I am lazy about washing stuff even though there is no way I ought to depend on the hygiene of produce pickers. But mostly I buy frozen veggies etc. Stuff that certainly can go into a non sterile canvas bag. It is dumb for cities to outlaw certain types of shopping bags but I don't see how it exposes me to any extra germs.

He's an First Sergeant with the Old Guard, a ceremonial unit with many funereal duties. Wikipedia has a decent description. My current Platoon Sergeant was with them.
94,
Master Sergeant still exists and is the same grade. First Sergeant is a position and a rank. E-8 without the position is Master Sergeant and lacks the diamond in the middle of his rank. First Sergeant is the highest NCO in a Company and next to the XO (First Lieutenant usually) in helping the Company Commander (Captain).
There may be some exceptions to this but that's generally how it's supposed to be. For example, we had a Master Sergeant temporarily serve as our Sergeant Major and my brother (a Second Lieutenant) is an acting XO (but he's National Guard and promotions work differently there).

The whole point of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution is that it must be enforced even when it's not popular to do so. I feel the same way about this that I do about the Ground Zero Mosque.
Our rules exist for a reason, and breaking them completely undermines what America stands for.
