Al Smith Dinner: Romney Fillets Obama, Media
— Ace

The Al Smith Dinner is a Catholic charity dinner. Presidential candidates typically attend. I do not remember it occurring this late in election season.

Sorry, I just realized this was on.

Romney on debate prep: "First, refrain from alcohol for 65 years before the debate."

Just had a good joke: "Speaking of Sesame Street, tonight's dinner was brought to you by the letter 'O' and the number 16 trillion."

You can't get through an election without someone who truly stands with you. I have my lovely wife Ann, he has Bill Clinton.

"Of course rules have to be enforced, we need to make sure things are fair, (sarcastically) that's why we have the press."

"But the press and I have different jobs. My job is to tell the American people my plans for the country, the press' job is to make sure no one hears about it."

The press maybe sees things in a particular way. They've already written the headlines about tonight's dinner: "Obama embraced by Catholics, Romney dines with Rich people"

Obama on the second debate: "I felt well-rested, after the nice long nap I had during the first debate."

Obama on first debate: "I want to apologize to Chris Matthews. The first time I gave him a thrill up his leg, this time I gave him a stroke."

Obama talking about Romney's and his names: "Actually, Mitt is his middle name. (ruefully) I wish I could use my middle name."

On the next debate on Foreign Policy: "Spoiler alert: We got bin Ladin." (Funnier than it sounds, it was a self-deprecating crack about his intention to ride that body into November.)

23 I kind of love and hate how uncomfortable Obama is with the jokes at his own expense (well, of course he's not comfortable with anything being at his own expense). 24 Some Romney lines (I think): " I was hoping the President would bring Joe Biden along. He’ll laugh at anything!" "To St. Peter, “if you got a church you didn’t build that”!!!!!!" ""Speaking of Big Bird, Obama is brought to you by the letter 'O' and the number 16,000,000,000,000" " "Romney reads press headline from dinner: “Obama Embraced By Catholics; Romney Dines With Rich People”"

They are.  But they are views into the demeanor of the readership.  The Sentinel is left-center but the local paper for the most important swing area of the state.  If they endorse Romney, it's because they know their readership is backing him hard.

If Romney wins the I-4 corridor, he wins Florida.  End of discussion.

135 I caught the Obama bit, and kept watching up to the smug guy in the red beanie.

Red Hat started off amusingly, and then went on to talk about politician work as "public service". At that point I started smelling the smug from my speakers. Red Hat then listed a string of "un" people, including the "UN-documented". Along with, of course, the "UN insured" and "UN dereducated".

So, if you're Catholic: you could care about the UN born - but you should care about illegal immigrants, bureaucrats and teachers'-unions first.

I wish I had a red skullcap and could talk with such authority as a result.

Mitt was brutal, and wow, he has excellent comedic timing! Obama actually made me feel a tad sorry for him, and he kept stepping on his own punchlines.

Looks like Obama really is going for the underdog role, and the new polls play right into this "strategy."

If he does manage to guilt trip his base into voting for him again, instead of staying home, it won't be the rout I've been envisioning.

That is, if he doesn't opt for plan C - you know, what the left accused Booooooooosh!!! of, if he lost re-elect.

Many Catholics were upset they extended the invitation to Obama considering how tense relations are right with the Catholic Church.  His Eminence knew what he was doing.  Not only was there a sharp contrast between the two candidates but Obama was forced to sit next to him for the evening.  I love to watch Cardinal Dolan.  He doesn't need to be wearing red to standout in whatever group he is in. You can bet that while remaining civil the Cardinal did not shy away from engaging Obama in more than small talk.

I am saying that the lack of riots will trigger a complete and total rage by Obama. He is smart enough to have identified the weaknesses in the system by now.

More damage can be done to the country by a malicious president on a rampage than a bunch of shitheads burning down their neighborhoods, stealing TVs and getting themselves shot if they try and take that shit outside of their enclaves.

I fear more for this country and my children's future. I can take care of myself for a few days, no problem.
