Andrew Breitbart, 1969- [Truman North]
— Open Blogger

I donÂ’t have a personal anecdote to share about Andrew. I only admired him from the flickering half-light at the edge of the campfire of conservative new media; a campfire built by Andrew and a very few giants like him.

What I learned from Andrew is that there are cultural issues (not necessarily any particular social issues) that are inseparable from fiscal issues. He showed me that the ruling class has attempted make itself indispensable to greater and greater numbers, in order to ensure its perpetuity, by incrementally re-making and re-defining culture. This re-definition of our culture is done through a gay little marriage between low expectations, lack of personal accountability, and the government-supplied safety net which makes it possible for people to live well even while making poor decisions.

I see his broadsides against the left and the elite media fundamentally as attacks at their cultural foundations. I saw he had the strength and humility to strike them with kindness and good humor, without succumbing to the mincing equivocation of most modern men. He understood not only that they were wrong, but that nothing we could do would staunch the tide of their long march if he agreed with their unspoken premise: That it was solely the liberal elites who would define what which is good and legitimate. Unlike a whole generation of our conservative leaders, he refused to accept their premise. And he showed me that it is okay, that is essential, that we must reject their judgment, too, if we are to win the war for our Republic.

What IÂ’m taking away from AndrewÂ’s life is that his was not a lone strike against the titanic edifice of the government-media tyranny, but rather an example for the rest of us to follow in striking against that faceless, uncaring titan. For if it is Legion, then we must be myriad.

I don't have the media savvy or charisma of Andrew. What I have is a decent grasp of history and a fist full of jokes about the human anus. While both of these will doubtless be vital assets in our war for the Republic, the following effort will rely on the former and not the latter.

The following is largely stuff you already know but IÂ’m going to lay it out again in simple terms. Use it as a blueprint to explain to your liberal, unaffiliated or uninterested friends just why it is important for us to change our culture in order to change our RepublicÂ’s fate.

The cause of our huge deficit can be explained in terms of efficiently-functioning markets: Markets of morality as much as of economy.

People like things. Politicians have figured out how to sell things to people in exchange for their votes. Politicians like votes. By trading votes for things, both the constituents and politicians benefit.

But where do the politicians get the things they sell? The government is a unique entity because it has a monopoly on the authority to use deadly force. Therefore, politicians can simply make laws that take things away from people who create them—other Americans.

In the beginning, this was difficult, since there were prohibitions against bills of attainder (essentially, taxes on specific groups or specific individuals) or levying income taxes. But when Progressives succeeded in eviscerating the Constitution in any number of ways, through a combination of subterfuge, brute-force judicial activism and ignorance of the populace, these old checks on government power had been abolished.

Therefore, politicians then for many decades, have simply taken by force the created wealth of a minority of people and gave it to a majority in exchange for the votes of the latter. Everybody wins, except for the productive citizenry.
At times of national crisis and particularly during World War II, the US began running significant federal deficits. At first, these deficits were financed largely through debt offerings to the public, and largely held by Americans.

But over time, and particularly starting in the 1970s, debt spiraled out of control. While there were indeed crises caused by feckless foreign policy under Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Carter, and the cost of winning the Cold War under Reagan, much of the public debt was sold abroad and used to finance the welfare state which politicians counted on to buy the votes of their constituencies.

You may ask: why issue debt that constituents would eventually have to pay back? The answer is this: It is easier to demand wealth from future generations, who have neither franchise nor voice in the present, than it is from citizens who exist now and could, ostensibly, work against those demanding the extracted wealth. Working as we do against government expansion for the sake of those future generations, our position is a fundamentally moral and righteous one.

For many reasons, it took almost 40 years for the passions of the wealth creators and the mothers to future Americans to match the cunning of the wealth-transferring class of politicians. The TEA movement has been born. Its vilification by elites of both parties and the media hints at the threat it is to the power of politicians who self-perpetuate by means of transferring wealth—from those who are creating it now, and from those who are yet to be born—to a growing class of dependents. This dependent class grows still and will continue to grow, regardless of who is in the White House, unless we become an army of Andrews to a greater degree than we have thus far been.

This was one aspect of AndrewÂ’s genius: he saw what we see, but he knew where to attack it in order to do the most damage. And he taught us how to replicate his attacks. Teaching, thatÂ’s what gave him the energy to do what he did: it was his quest to show us how to beat back Leviathan. ItÂ’s why we know that when we attack the elite institutions which have all but guaranteed our nationÂ’s demise, we do so with confidence, from the shoulders of a giant.

While his mortal shell has expired, you can't kill the Big Idea that Andrew taught us, not really. You can only allow it to die, by doing nothing.

3 Breitbart was the Jackie Robinson of the new medial. He took the bile, bitterness, venom and hatred and in the end it killed him. But not before opening the floodgates and tearing down the barriers of those who used to control what we were supposed to think and feel. What a difference he made. What a hell of an American. RIP

10 I still can't believe he's gone.

I have a friend you lost her youngish husband suddenly a little over a year ago.  She called me a  few weeks ago when the f-i-l died.

She said it took her a year to come to grips with the reality her husband was gone.  She's still hurting terribly, but the shock has worn off and she's into acceptance.

Poor Susie Breitbart and kids.  I can only imagine.

We really don't have to worry about issues like freedom or social decline anymore since our party has decided to care only about minor tweaks to the economy and unemployment rate.

I guess we are the Tories now and we will like it.

12 Some of Sir Thomas More's most famous words (also a line from A Man For All Seasons) were, "This is not the stuff martyrs are made of," when referring to himself.  He of course turned out to be wrong.  Despite the entreaties of his entire family he persevered to the end, since his conscience would not allow him peace otherwise.  I'm not comparing Andrew directly to More, but there was probably a similar internal compulsion in him that ultimately may have contributed to his own death, a self-giving to his righteous cause.  It's also instructive for all of us who may have sentiments similar to More's --and while few if any of us will ever be called to such a momentous decision, we may find it in us to make significant sacrifices nevertheless.  For this reason, I predict --and hope-- there will be a lot of civil disobedience, especially Gandhian passive resistance, is the latest wave of tyrannical mandates start to set in.  There may be no direct human toll, but (for example) a lot of businesses, churches, and other conscientious organizations may have to experience "white" martyrdom.

Pardon the length.

Yes, social issues matter. However the political class seems to think that the only social issues involve church and sex.

The most pressing social issue is, however, self-respect.  And that can only come from self reliance, and the ability to fail.  When government takes those away, they steal the very essence of what it is to be free.

15 If you haven't watched it yet, go youtube Breitbart at CPAC this year. The RINOs, true cons, and everybody in between fretting over these shitty primary candidates, arguing over whether or not Rush should call some idiot cock-holster a slut, or whatever the MFM narrative of the day is need to take a deep breath, unbunch their panties, and think about what really matters in the fights ahead this year. Breitbart knew what the goal was, don't disappoint him.

Commenter Stuck On Stupid has a great story about what he did, prompted by AB. It starts in the LA Area Meetup thread and carries over into the ONT. In a nutshell, some guy at work wore a Che t-shirt, SOS politely asked him not to wear it again, Che wearing weany took it to HR and SOS got to go all Breitbart on them with facts.

Well yeah....of course it's a minefield. That's the tyranny of it, isn't it? ....The tyranny of how they've been intertwined in order to make it 'antisocial' to protest the insane unfiscally sound and unsustainable social spending.

I took this as being the point that Truman was trying to make.

18 Has anyone watched Bill Whittle's tribute video to Andrew Breitbart? Interesting and very personal. I agree with it because I always thought it was all about the media. I believe nothing can be done with the government until the media is dealt with.

That's why I despair without Andrew. The  Fluke Fiasco has been a perfect example of how we let the media define everything on their own terms while we get the vapors and squabble amongst ourselves. Andy, we hardly knew ye.

20 Before we all go off re-making Breitbart in our own image (not you, T.N., but others better heed this), think about what Weinergate was about. It wasn't the economy, it wasn't some larger, noble purpose. Breitbard (AND ACE!) saw a lying sackweasel try to get away with something sordid (it was about sex!!), and they didn't let him do that. Those of you who want to accuse Rush of being untoward with his use of terms for Fluke and her cohorts on Capitol Hill and in the White House, pay attention: Breitbart would be right there in the middle of this, making the left answer for all of it. The lies about who this woman is, the absurdity of demanding we pay for her birth control, and yes, the suggestion that her sex life is spread wide open for us to see! Don't invoke his name while you're telling Rush and others to shut up about it. It borders on blasphemy.

38 I prefer the term "ruling class" to "elite". Elite implies they deserve their position. And they don't. Elite athletes really are the best athletes. Obama didn't get into Harvard because he was smarter than everyone else. Michelle Obama admits her test scores were so low, nobody thought she'd get in. They don't deserve to be called "elites".

Posted by: Clubber Lang at March 03, 2012 09:23 AM (ZPrif)

40 I also find a good attack line is call the left bigots. You don't have to clarify exactly what group they are bigoted against. They recoil cause they are so used to being able to throw out the racist, sexist, homophobic line. Lines like, "I'm not gonna be lectured by a bigot like you." "Obama and his band of bigots." "Typical leftist bigot."

Good point, and Matt Labash illustrated it in his piece about AB when they had dinner with Bill Ayers, a guy most of us would probably have trouble speaking to in a civil tone. AB used knew how to handle it though:

"As it happened, Breitbart was on his best behavior. “I’m here to learn,” Andrew said facetiously. It was part of the pleasure of keeping company with him. He wasn’t just a friend, he was a co-conspirator. Once we arrived at the apartment, much to Andrew’s and Ayers’s chagrin, they got along famously. Just two guys having dinner, finding commonality, even if Andrew regarded it his hidebound duty to passive-aggressively heckle Ayers as he served us plates of hoisin ribs and farmhouse cheeses. (“This is the bomb, Bill,” Breitbart said to the former explosives-rigger.)

When Ayers asked me what I was reading right now, I told him “Moby Dick,” which actually lived up to its billing. Ayers agreed, though added, as any good academic would, “You’ve picked up the gay subtext?” Breitbart nearly choked on his tofu and quinoa. “You mean in Moby Dick?” Andrew asked. “Or at this dinner?”

>>This, as ever, is the modus operandi for every fascist, totalitarian regime. Control, power, and the rationales given at the beginning are forgotten. Control and power...

With the broad and deep attack on our values and Constitution by the Administration and its handlers, we must restore our armor against the snares of the evil that swirls through our halls of government. Oaths to uphold and protect the Constitution are laughed at and Judeo-Christian values vilified. More than politics, itÂ’s spiritual warfare!

Here are a few simple observations that a few of us might grasp and try to understand:

The Declaration of Independence sets the spiritual, moral and philosophical base of the Constitution. It also warns of “pretended legislation” and the “sending out of agents to eat out the peoples’ substance.”

Political Correctness is AcademiaÂ’s contribution to arrogance and ignorance. Free speech and free exchange of ideas are lost. There is nothing in PC that exudes love, only a failed attempt at sensitivity and compassion to control critical thinking and true charity.

The Principles of Subsidiarity and Solidarity must be applied together in all legislation to prevent selective privilege and demeaning dependency.

No House or Senate Bill should cover more than one subject area. Any bill over 50-100 pages is likely “pretended legislation.” The  dust-up over 3,000 page Obamacare with Catholic institutions is a classic example of the implantation of “poison pills” and bureaucratic license by drafters and imposers with ill-intent.

The Federal Government has no competence in Health, Education and Welfare, primarily community, church and state responsibilities. By definition, central government control of individual lives and communities violates subsidiarity, imposes selective privilege and creates dependency.

By ignoring Subsidiarity, local rule is passed to the central government, which encourages formation of radical, despotic and corrupt entities that covet power and control. Andrew lived that rule by NOT ignoring it.

Debt-based money as in our Federal Reserve System is actually “Tribute” paid by every productive and creative work of every person and business entity. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary: (b (1): an excessive tax, rental, or tariff imposed by a government, sovereign, lord, or landlord (2): an exorbitant charge levied by a person or group having the power of coercion) The nation’s full faith and credit can back “tribute-free currency” easier than “debt-based currency.” High Finance is ideally a medium of exchange and productive investment – the servant, not the master. When used as a tool for societal control or gaining wealth and power through currency manipulation and monetary speculations, it is “the root of all evil.” Enuf said.

The challenge of Islam will be met with a special kind of love. After all, Mohammed held the Blessed Virgin Mary as the most important woman in Islam and that her son Jesus was virgin-born. Ultimately this widely ignored truth will have beautiful unifying consequences for all people of faith and good will. God is not mocked.

We have received from God the self-evident truth of inalienable rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We are also empowered to meet todayÂ’s challenges.  We must act!

52 My own tiny attempt to be like Breitbart.  I made a poster with "Mr Obama, stop trying to bribe me into inviting the government into my sex life.  I am perfectly capable of buying my own contraceptives.  You are not fooling anybody with a functioning brain."

Results so far:  One conservative friend brought up Fluke (not Rush but her appeal to congress)  One went Huh?, and I filled her in on the Obama mandate and that Fluke is an activist trying to force a Jesuit univ. to provide abortifacients.   And one like from someone who has also liked posters about how Komen shouldn't pull money from PP etc, so putting it out there in simple terms before a liberal photo poster was circulating  may have cut the legs out from one MFM/DNC meme for one person.   This illustrates to me that we can educate folks.

If everyone who admired Breitbart does whatever little thing they can do to try to fill the gap he has left, we may yet win this war to save our treasured Republic.   No one of us can begin to replace him, but in aggragate, if we all do more because he is not around to do it for us we can make a difference.

53

Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful words.  You're right about "ruling class" rather than "elites" particularly.  And while I'm a libertarian/conservative I understand that there is a difference between liberty and license.  Being allowed to keep your own money is libertarian; demanding someone else pay for your is licentious.

The battle over creeping licentiousness is at this moment in time being fought on the battlefield of the church versus sex, but that's not the only place that is has ever been or will be fought.  That's why I onlyy tangentially refer to "social" issues when talking about the larger picture which I refer to as "cultural" issues.

If you didn't read Ace's editorial from yesterday about conservatives disagreeing without being disagreeable, please go do that.  It speaks to the issue of what is and what isn't important for us to agree upon in the galaxy of conservative thought.

55 I read the first chapter of  Andrew's book the other night, and from what I can tell, his war was primarily to expose the lying, partisan media. I am hoping it will be a guide to the new media and the way for us to continue the fight. Andrew's motivation was brought home forcefully today by an AP story about how Obama "shares the outrage" over Rush's slut comment. The entire article was a tissue of distortion and outright lies from beginning to end.

58 55 The challenge of Islam will be met with a special kind of love. After all, Mohammed held the Blessed Virgin Mary as the most important woman in Islam and that her son Jesus was virgin-born. Ultimately this widely ignored truth will have beautiful unifying consequences for all people of faith and good will. God is not mocked.

63 Anthony Weiner, the douche that keeps on douching--NYDailyNews, today: Shortly before his sexting scandal forced him out of office, then-Rep. Anthony Weiner passed on reports to the FBI that Staten Island Rep. Michael Grimm extorted an influential rabbi for campaign cash. ... The disgraced Democrat confirmed that he passed along the tip about his colleague to the feds. “I don’t know the truth of the allegations the rabbi made, so I am not going to repeat them. But I can confirm that I did the right thing at the time and reported the allegations to the FBI,” Weiner told the Daily News. This is not the first time Grimm, A REPUBLICAN, has been accused of strong-arming the rabbi’s E. 58th St. congregation, Shuva Israel, which is based heavily in Jewish mysticism. ------------ That Weiner, a real stand-up guy...Goes to the FBI to pass along a rumor about a REPUBLICAN colleague. 64 Nicely reviewed, Truman North.

Also, we cannot allow ourselves to be shouted down while being shouted at. Stay focused and stay vocal in whatever manner suits you; but do not be cowed. As a corollary do not let a colleague and ally get shouted down either. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." - Edmund Burke

55   Maybe I'm missing the meaning of what you guys are saying.  If so, forgive me.   But I do not regard islam as a religion.  I think it is a cult.  Cults take a snippet of real truth, such as admitting that Jesus was born of a virgin, then bastardize that truth to serve the needs of the cult.  Islam is the anti-Christianity "religion".   It was created to directly oppose Christianity.  Therefore, I don't agree that islam will eventually be unified with Christianity.   The whole purpose of islam is to conquer or inslave all who won't submit to it.

--Even if you're a hardcore atheist and think *all* religions start from illogical premises, you still have to understand at a basic level that a religion has to have a basic internal consistency and logic to it.  I think it is these contradictions, the fact that Islam is a hastily contrived dog's breakfast of tribal paganism, long-discarded Christian and Jewish heresies, and Arabian militancy that made it good for rapid conquest and conversion but poor as a blueprint for long-term civilizational success.

71 Outstanding post Truman.

For those of you following my own little saga, the emails in my personal account have grown to 56.  I wasn't able to check my work email from home, I cannot access the account.  I'm not certain if my account has been suspended, if it's just a technical glitch, or if I'm going to be handed a pink slip Monday morning.  No clue.

As expected most of the people emailing me have done so more out of curiosity than anything else, though I was a bit surprised that there were more than a few folks that emailed from work and told me that they supported me - though many of them asked me not to make there support public for fear of reprisals.

I did hear from one source today that they walked by my cubby and someone had gone in at some point and painted the word "Racist" on my monitor with fingernail polish.  I haven't seen it yet myself, not sure if they'll replace it before I get there Monday or if I'll have to report it myself.

We will see how it all plays out I guess.  If nothing else I have my resume ready so if necessary I'll start job hunting on Monday.

One way that the Dems silence the GOP is by spreading the idea that itÂ’s somehow bad manners to criticize them on their chosen issues. Part of Andrew BreitbartÂ’s secret to success was that he didnÂ’t care about that. For the non-Frumish GOP, thereÂ’s a lesson there.

Unfortunately, that lesson has also been lost by many of the non-Frumish, including lots of people who frequently post here.

77 Logprof, if I may add to your analysis at 70, it's been pointed out to me that the Old Testament is for all intents and purposes a book of public health (lepers, pork, et cetera), the New Testament is a bit more story and philosophy, and that the Koran is fundamentally a book of war. As you pointed out, it's an amalgamation of a lot of bad ideas that ultimately beat the drums for conquest. As an extension to that, with most of the lefty scientists (particularly the bioethicists) that I encounter, they're usually the evangelical atheists. They tend to excuse Islam while attacking Christianity and Judaism aggressively (more as a slap at Western civilization). The place where it's fun to get after them is explaining religion and science as yin and yang- science existing to explain that which we seem to understand; religion existing to handle that which we can't explain. Why is it worth getting into with these guys? Simply, this is where the attack on faith happens in academia. The attempt is being made to replace faith with science, and most of these bio guys I encounter actually roll over when you lay out the confluence of science and religion, and the fact that they need each other.

As a result my friend wasn't able to document the vandalized monitor, not sure if it will be there Monday or not.  Lol.. truth be told I'm not even sure I'll be allowed on the production floor come Monday, they may just shuffle me off to HR and hand me my walking papers.

Enjoyed the piece, especially the end, talking about Andrew.  But more toward the beginning where the author said "it wasn't easy in the beginning."  Taking things from others in order to redistrubute them, that is.  But it was easy.  And I think we have to acknowledge it.

It was easy for the government to take things from those who posessed them and give them to others.  We took the land.  And we redistrubuted it.  And the people were happy.  We also took labor, by force and without compensation.   And we redistrubed it.  Only when these things ran out did the government begin taxing the income of the citizens for redistribution.

It's correct to acknowledge these things.  They help us to understand that government taking and redistributing is more fundamental in the history of our nation than than we conservatives generally care to admit.  The conduct is not of as recent an origin as we generally assume.

We've got our work cut out for us in terms of education, which is the only real solution.  But first, we have to be as honest with our own thinking as we can be.

104 Want to drive a narrative... "kayfabe"... or however its pronounced... use that to describe the histronics of the Obama campaign... the fainting spells, the plants, make people question it all.

If Breitbart did anything he took the attack based on evidence and the chain of people twisting events... don't let them get away with it and call BS when the obvious is being twisted... when events are recontorted to service the meme.  Destroy their frame-shifting.  Make them own up to facts, to events, to the habitual lies when they lie about the evidence before your eyes.  That's what he did... that's why he documented everything and kept everything clear.  People will eventually notice when there is dissonance between the obvious and the rhetoric.  Move people out of phase... make them think "wait a minute".

That's how you win... the only way to break the spell is a bucket of water.  We are the water throwers and we have plenty of buckets.

If so I'll be walking a very, very fine line there - I had to sign a lot of non-disclosure agreements when I got hired due to the nature of the work I do, so I'd have to be extremely careful and have a lawyer look over all that before I could say word one.  While I am more than willing to lose my job over this if necessary, I'm just not in position to take on a huge multinational corporation defending myself against the kind of legal pressure they can bring to bear by violating any of the non-disclosure agreements I signed.

But again I'm really not certain where I stand just yet, I won't really know until Monday and possibly later.  While I cannot, at the moment, access my work email that may or may not be related.  It could just be a technical glitch, it has happened before though it's not common.

From the sounds of things I'm probably in for an earful and then some from at least a few of the principals involved - and it sounds like they've already vandalized my cubicle.  As to how the company will respond, as of yet I have no idea.  I'm hoping they won't follow the HR Director's example, but it's possible they might.

Either way I'm not going to hand them ammunition they can use against me, but on the other side of the coin I'm not backing down from the fight either.  If the leftist loons are going  to bring politics into the workplace then from now on there will be at least one voice of dissent there to greet them.  If they will agree to leave there politics at the door, then so will I.

But regardless in memory of Andrew I will not go quietly, nor will I sit quietly by anymore.  I think it was Edmund Burke who said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Well, I'm not going to do that anymore.  The nothing option is now off the table.

122 OK, I found the post from last night. Obviously you are in a heavy blue State if the HR people have no idea who Che was and what he did.  If it is a blue State it is not a right to work State so they can not terminate at will for any reason.

Termination of someone for being offended at a t-shirt honoring a mass murdering communist revolutionary is not grounds for termination.

Most likely the liberal commie will make up some lies to turn in. If they are a member of what senior management often refers to as "protected specie" they will be taken at their word.

And moreover, it's the 'having-it-both-ways' thing that the Left does so much they don't even seem to see that they are doing it when they are doing it. .....Hypocrisy, really.

They've been doing these SlutWalks....even wearing the word 'slut' across their chests....with the intent of making the word 'slut' into a badge-of-honor. ....But now they've got their collective panties in a wad, because Rush used that word?

I wonder if the JEF will be marching in the next SlutWalk? .....As, you know, a show of solidarity and all. ....It is an election year, after all. Heh.

Actually no, the state I live in is not a blue state, however the company I work for is a very large one and the HR director is not a native, she is in point of fact originally from Canada and has only been living here in the states for maybe 3 or 4 years.

As to having no idea who Che is or what he did, from the emails I've gotten the vast majority of people who asked for information had no idea who Che was or what the historical facts were.  Many of them had commented that they had seen the T-Shirt, but had no idea who it was and they were actually surprised to find out the shirt's origins and meaning.  To most of them it was just an ugly T-Shirt with no further significance.

Granted it's a sad comment on the state of our educational system, but apparently it's true.

I didn't like that 'tribute'. .....Whittle couldn't resist mentioning his own little "I tried to tell him to take care of himself" story...and comes across as rather self-serving in doing that.  ...It was creepy.

Andrew Breitbart lived his life the way he wanted to.....fighting the way he wanted to. .....He was probably so wired over the daily, constant battles, that his health was the last thing on his mind. ....I won't scold him for that. I salute him for his selflessness.

146 " From what I understand the CIA didn't "get him". It was special forces who went in and got him."

Reports vary on this, a lot - from most of the information I've been able to gather it was actually neither, but rather Bolivian army regulars who were at the time trained by our Green Beret's (A common mission for them at the time) that killed Che.

Some reports say he was captured first and then executed, others say different - some say Green Beret's were involved, some claim the 2nd Ranger battalion was there, many state the presence of a CIA officer, many claim he wasn't there at all.

So it's a little difficult to determine exactly what happened.  From most of the reputable sources I can find it would appear that it was indeed the Bolivians themselves who first captured Che after an encounter with a band of his rebels.  According to the best information I have, a small force of the Bolivian army lead by a Captain Gary Prado acted on a tip from a Bolivian peasant engaged Che and a small group of rebels in combat.

From all accounts this was the first time Che had ever actually engaged in combat himself, I'm guessing only because they were caught by surprise and he had little other choice.  Che was wounded and captured, and they held him over night before executing him the next day on orders from then Bolivian President Rene Barrientos.  Rather ironic, considering how many people Che had executed himself without the benefit of a trial.  Of course most of those people were from the Cuba, and there only "crime" was being guilty of having been wealthy or upper-middle class folks with an education that had belongings or possessions that Che and his thugs wanted.

From the research I have done the CIA was made aware of all of this, but weren't really directly involved to any great extent.  To be fair though reports on this part of course vary widely so it's difficult to be certain exactly what role they played.

147 Writings I have read from people familiar with the SF community said it was SF with some locals who did the capture. It was then laid out that Bolivian SF did it.

148 "Writings I have read from people familiar with the SF community said it was SF with some locals who did the capture. It was then laid out that Bolivian SF did it."

Admittedly it is very possible - there are about 300 different versions of the story of how he was captured and then executed.  The revolting part is how many of them use the descriptor "Christ like" to describe how he looked after the fact.  There was absolutely nothing Christ-like about this dirtbag.

151 While his mortal shell has expired, you can't kill the Big Idea that Andrew taught us, not really. You can only allow it to die, by doing nothing. Nice sentiment, but what is the "Big Idea"? And who actually bothers to take up his sword and run with that "Big Idea"? It seems every election, we scrap the "Big Ideas" and principles and policies and simply focus on things such as "electability", "anyone with an R next to his/her name" and "this is not the hill to die on". Take, for instance, illegal immigration. In 2006-2007, it was THE big thing that was going to destroy the nation. Then, in 2008 (McCain) and now again in 2012 (Perry), when that idea is brought up, people just went "meh, who cares, we just gotta get a R in office". So I really don't know what 'our side' even believes in anymore. Principles and 'big ideas' seem to change based on which politician is the most popular at any given moment.

You got plenty of guts.  Most of us do lead lives of "quiet desparation", to quote Thoreau.  To stand up over something like this doesn't always seem like "the hill to die on".  But the slow and relentless pressure to conform and the daily debasing of our culture and politics turns us all into ....something that we just don't want to face.

Breitbart wasn't an 'everyman', by no means.  It took him years to take up this battle, to work himself up to this.  But sooner or later, all of us are going to have to either personally stand up and say "No More!" or else slink off and accept our eventual doom.  And die a little every day, inside.

My tinny advice is to stay factual, stay cool, and start to think about getting a lawyer, even if you think you can't afford one  (thinking is free, afterall).  By all means, as you yourself said, don't quit.  Make them fire you, if it comes to that.

Living the life of a truly free man is not as easy as it sounds or should be.  But that's the way things are today.

155 My husband has recently been awakened to find the dismal state of the nation politically.    Up until recently, he was content to pursue his career and his serious hobbies.    Obama changed that.

And Andrew Breitbarts death has punched him in the guts.  My man doesn't weep for many.  He wrote this:

AndrewÂ’s death strikes me with fear

While down my cheek runs many a tear.

IÂ’m the silent type, there in the background

Wanting to speak but making no sound.

No one who knows me would call me weak

But in politics, IÂ’ve always been meek.

Not wanting to offend friends on the left,

My political action has been, well, bereft.

Whether we find it is death with a cause,

It is time to stand, and without pause.

LetÂ’s find truth and justice if we can

ItÂ’s the best tribute for such a great man.

This is for Stuck on Stupid (better change that nic, you're officially my hero, dude).

159 Before we all go off re-making Breitbart in our own image (not you, T.N., but others better heed this), think about what Weinergate was about. Posted by: BurtTC at March 03, 2012 01:05 PM THIS. A-freaking-men. And the issue with this slut (lying to Congress (and the nation) about the cost of contraception, politically active to force Catholic institutions to go against their beliefs, politically active to force taxpayers to pay for her lifestyle choice) is MUCH bigger than the issue with Weiner.
