Awesome Picture: Milky Way Over Mt. Rainier
— Ace

Not Valley Dude awesome, but old school awesome.

If you want to be depressed, here's Paul Rahe's disipiriting take on the future -- economic and political -- of Michigan. And that future is probably already here.

i hate fact check issue #612

Romney claims he'll create 12 million jobs in 4 years. Washington Post fact checker points out that "But MoodyÂ’s Analytics, in an August forecast, predicts 12 million jobs will be created by 2016, no matter who is president. And Macroeconomic Advisors in April also predicted a gain of 12.3 million jobs."

As though this is just 'normal'. Over the last 30 years of 4-year periods(1983-2012)

6 times the economy created negative jobs, including the most recent 4 periods

14 times the economy created less than 6,000,000 jobs

only 9 times has it created 10,000,000 jobs

only twice has it created 12,000,000 jobs

But it's just about to happen. They have forseen it. No matter what.

Ah, now I get it.  It's tricky.  Most retailers don't tell their customers how to take care of bettas, which survive for a long time in sub-optimal conditions (at least long enough to get sold, anyway) because they gulp air in addition to breathing through their gills.  With a larger bowl and more frequent water changes, among other things, your next pal (if you decide to get one) might live quite a bit longer.  Sorry, I'm a fish geek.

You get half measures and in the end the progs and libs find a way to get what they want.

When Romney wins, he will be the last best hope to stop the leftward slide from taking us over the precipice.

61 Dems know that the ballot initiatives/amendments will eventually bankrupt and take Michigan down.  They are likely BETTING on that.

Why?  Because Michigan is 'too big to fail'.  Mother  Fed would not dare let those unions in MI, those union members, suffer such a ignominious fate.

Like California is likely predicting, Mother Fed will come to the rescue, bailing them out, and taking freedoms with it.

The collapse of democracy will follow...

From the article:

¡¡

"

If my fears are realized, it will be due to the fecklessness of a single Republican ¨C who had a chance to set things right but failed to recognize that bad management is not the chief source of Michigan¡¯s problems and that he had to confront more fundamental problems and articulate an argument appealing to justice in defense of what he intended to do."

¡¡

This is BS. No one man is responsible for our condition. The fact is that Snyder is a symptom of the problem, not the cause. The assertion that he had majorities sufficient to get the big ticket items on our wish list accomplished is false. It would never have happened.

¡¡

¡¡

The Dems can't succeed like they do here in Michigan without a complicit populace. The toxin of Leftist thought has so thoroughly contaminated the culture that this kind of result is inevitable. The mob, the mindless and unthinking "average" Americans, are nearly brainless, thanks to decades of subversion in the public school system. They are the proof of what should have been plain from the beginning - unlimited suffrange leads, in the end, to unlimited suffering. You'd think that Detroit would be warning enough to the rest - but most people just stick their heads in the sand and cling to foolish optimism or simply tune out.

¡¡

¡¡

Unless the US is blessed with a well-designed break up, wherein the good states can save themselves - this is what awaits for the whole nation. Ruin.

97 I also live in south central Mi and have seen just one (1!) Hoekstra ad this month. I see Stabemoo ads , even on Ace. Sheesh!

98 I tend to agree with him on Michigan. I go back every year to visit family on the west side, and despite the Detroit exodus nothing seems to change. My Michigan friends on Facebook who see most clearly whatÂ’s happening to Michigan are no longer in Michigan. And so many of my friends who remained in Michigan are nice people who work for the government; teachers especially. I see extremely conservative teachers, especially with respect to the second amendment, who turn around and sound like extreme liberals when their union requires it. But I hope, because Michigan is a beautiful place.

99 We have three Betta fish buried in our backyard. The last one was in our freezer for a while, my daughter wanting to keep it until science comes up with a cure. The Bettas were tricky. Had to only change part of water at a time. If we tried to remove them to clean the tank, they thrash and jump and hurt themselves. Our Cory Catfish are survivors, and not boring. The Bettas don't mind them like they do most fish, and the Corys are bottom feeders, which helps. The Bettas are beautiful tho. Good luck.

Reporting from the belly of the beast, Ann Arbor MI, Michigan is in play for Mitt. Luckily Mitt has big coattails, and if he wins MI, he'll pull Hoekstra ahead of Stabenow (please please please).

Posted by: sinmi on the phone at October 17, 2012 10:01 PM (hO14o)

That would sure be nice... Makes sense, though, for Ann Arbor to wise up a little. They've got $$$ there. Libtards lover their little brown brothers, but they don't want them moving in next door. As the fear grows perhaps they'll move, reluctantly, Rightward.

105 There was a discussion in an earlier troll-thread about whether J R R Tolkien was a nihilist - at least, in his fiction. I'd brought up "The Silmarillion". I think the discussion might be worth having (since the discussion wasn't had over there, that thread being a troll-thread).

In "The Silmarillion" there are two worlds: Valinor (vestibule to Heaven) and Middle-Earth (mythic precursor to our world). A rebel angel by name of "Melkor" is booted out of Valinor and earns the name "Morgoth", Darkenemy. Morgoth then settles on Middle-Earth. A gang of vengeful elves follow Lucifer - I mean, Melkor - over to our world and -

Well, to cut a very long and epic story short, matters go BADLY. This, says Tolkien, is because nothing can defeat evil unless it is by G-d's will. At least, not long term.

At the end of "The Silmarillion" it turns out that Melkor doesn't get to enjoy his victory for long.

Paul Rahe may be right. He is right in the short term. The way of unlife leads to death. But there will be those who do not follow the way of death; and these will live.

Melkor cannot win. Detroit, Michigan, all of America and the current Western consensus can all collapse; but these are artificial political constructs. Their collapse will not matter to those communities which hold together.

108 Wasn't there a cable channel that just broadcast a fish tank a while ago?  Some geek used it as a test pattern and they noticed their viewership went up when it was just the fish tank rather than whatever content they normally had.

Perhaps MSNBC could improve their market share by broadcasting a fish tank 7x24?

111 Completely irrelevant............free Kindle ebook (probably today only).  "The Dark Side of Heaven".....might be a decent segue into Halloween.....I always read something to get me in the mood for that night.
Anyways, if pixie lets it be so there's an Amazon link in my sig........if that doesn't work out maybe I'll try to get a tinyurl link up before the night is over.
Oh gosh....never mind....Amazon dot com has been banned????  WTF  Amazon links are banned??  So now we're in fucking Iran?
OK, I'm out.  Sorry to bother..............

Alas - no. The scum will not leave. They'll hang around, breeding like rats. Thanks to not only the Libtards, but to the bleeding heart, do-gooder, so-called "conservatives" who agree with the Libtards it's my job to pay for unlimited bastardy with my tax dollars. I should thank the Left for their love of infanticide - they're the only ones doing anything to keep the problem in check.

114 Yeah, the first picture was a lot prettier than the second. The MI story didn't speak of any mini -istans though. Do you suppose, like prison populations, the people who live in blight will seek order out of chaos in the form of islam? My closest Walmart we just refer to as the mosque because of the population. Some complete burquaed but some American converts. I want to walk up to the burquaed women and tell them that they don't need to go home, and I want to walk up to the American women and say WTF?

115 Sent this one to a publisher . Once upon a time, skillions of years ago, all of the self existant matter in the universe was gathered together into a tiny little ball. It got really hot and exploded into dust going out in all directions. Over billions and billions of years these dust particles started running into each other and forming stars and planets. After billions of years one of these planets cooled and a single cell of life, containing a strand coded information magically appeared... He wrote me back. Told me that was as far as he read and that no one was ever gonna buy that fairy tale.

116 My wife's family is originally from Michigan and she has a few relatives who still live up there. Her cousin got an engineering degree from UofM, eventually went back to grad school, but was the only one of his grad school classmates who stayed in the state of Michigan. Every other one took a job somewhere else.

Problem is, even those that identify themselves as conservatives are really just liberals that think they can direct government to be more fiscally restraint.  Within time liberalism/socialism will overtake the remaining states once again. Not saying it still isn't an option but all it will do is buy some time so maybe the next few generations to live in some modicum of freedom.

120 In re Hoekstra/Stabenow signs... the circuitous route I drive around the west and south of Ann Arbor has roughly equal signs for both. I've heard no radio ads for either (I'm largely an AM listener during the drive). Don't watch TV, so can't speak to that. Obama signs are popping up, but less so than in 2008.
