Barney Frank: I Urged Obama Not To Pass ObamaCare

Via Hot Air, a dose of sober reflection from the departing partisan troll.

"I think we paid a terrible price for healthcare," Frank told the magazine in a lengthy interview as he prepares to retire at the end of his 16th term. "I would not have pushed it as hard. As a matter of fact, after [Sen.] Scott Brown [R-Mass.] won [in January 2010], I suggested going back. I would have started with financial reform, but certainly not healthcare."

"When you try to extend healthcare to people who don't have it, people who have it and are on the whole satisfied with it get nervous," Frank said. "The problem with healthcare is this: Healthcare is enormously important to people. When you tell them that youÂ’re going to extend healthcare to people who donÂ’t now have it, they donÂ’t see how you can do that without hurting them. So I think he underestimated, as did Clinton, the sensitivity of people to what they see as an effort to make them share the healthcare with poor people."

They don't see how you can do that without hurting them because you can't do that without hurting them. ObamaCare relies at its heart on those with good health insurance giving up a part of their health care -- and yet still paying for that insurance -- for those who have no health insurance.

"Sharing" sounds good for those without. It's not such a good deal for those with.

There's no way to get around this basic fact, and 90% of Obama's and the Democrats' misrepresentations on ObamaCare have consisted of offering various arguments denying the obvious.

The people are "sensitive" whenever the FEDERAL government attempts to "make the people" do anything. The federal government has no such authority under the constitution. That is the dominion of the state governments, not the federal government.

Well, if there's a silver lining to be found in all of this, it could well be that once we put a few grownups in charge of Washington once more, we might actually start to hear a couple of commons sense solutions to remedy the damage that the SCOAMF and his Band of Merry Marxists have inflicted upon the country.

Like expanding the free market in the health insurance arena. Things like allowing interstate HC policies, real live tort reform and stuff like that there.

We have a private, free economy that, unleashed from the shackles of Washington, can renew itself and solve a boatload of our economic problems. But the SCOAMF acts like it doesn't exist, or if it does, he's trying to kill it. Probably the latter.

The cost will appear in both directly attributable medical expenses and in subtle indirect fees and taxes. Definitely a winning situation for those embracing a federal government centered life.

Unexpectedly, boutique clinics and excellent levels of service will exist, and indeed thrive, for the deserving (the Obamas, the Axelrods, the Clintons, etc.).

This "sharing" business, I sincerely believe it goes back to childhood. Liberals are those kids who, no matter what it was, toys, cheerios, etc, they would gobble up theirs or break or lose them, and then turn to the kid who handled his/her goodies responsibly, and scream "mom, he won't share!!!"

Then mom/teacher would make the responsible kid share. That's why we have liberals today.

I'm sorry I missed the computer games thread from yesterday, because I just discovered this really cool, abstract tower-defense sim called Chess, where you kind of battle it out with another army in a turn-based, top-down 2D battle grid. You get all these different units, and your opponent gets the same ones, so it's really balanced and interesting. Apparently, there's a ton of fan sites, and in some of them you can play for free.

Everyone thought that health scare was dad after Scott Brown's election. Even Rahmbo said it was over and to move on. It was Barky's lack of American sensibilities, at all, and his great desire to break us and our systems, no matter what, that drove health scare after that. He decided to keep pushing the bill until either Congress "broke" or the shitty, un-American, insane bill passed. Barky didn't care either way. That's why ObamaCare was based on the Senate bill (which was NEVER intended to be the foundation of the final law and is why the dems in the House were trying every underhanded way to not vote for thte Senate bill but to deem it passed and why it's put together even worse than what the despicable, lying scumbag dems wanted). Both were great results for the America-hater, so the push went on and the dems lined up behind the dictator and took the hard line against America with him.

This is the sort of danger of having non-natural born citizens leading the Executive branch. No connection to America. No subconscious limits from being part of American culture. No attachment to us or our institutions. That is the threat. Find a non-natural born citizen who hates our nation and then you have an existential risk not worth taking, at all - as per our ignored Constitution.

Every supposed solution creates the distortion to try to pressure a certain outcome, but what inevitably happens is that other pressures get distorted at the same time and other problems result from the previous 'solution,' so more 'solutions' are demanded.

100 I think it's important to be careful of the nitpicky semantics--extending by fiat health care *insurance,* not health care per se, to those who don't have it and won't or can't buy it on their own is going to affect us. People who can't or won't buy insurance can still go to the doctor, and that doesn't affect me at all. Giving somebody health care *insurance* at a reduced rate or whatever and making that insurance cover stuff it can't afford to cover, that affects me. People having health *care,* only, without buying insurance doesn't affect us much.

101 It is of course an overstatement to say them going to the doctor won't affect me at *all;* if they don't pay the doctor that'll likely raise costs on me & my health ins. company somehow, BUT the decision whether they go to the doctor or not is theirs, not government-imposed, and the resulting adjustments are likely made by the docs (in how much they charge and to whom) and in the ins. companies, not at gov't level.

For the purposes of correctness and honorable rhetoric, I agree with you completely.

However, in order to be critical of the content of the message rather thsn the wuality of the messaging, we have to make assumptions about what the audience knows.

The difficulty stems from the fact that we have fundamental axiomatic differences with the left. We start from completely different ideas about what constitutes reality.

We-- that is, you, me, and the morons-- understand that we can't blindly accept Frank's premise, or else we're already lost, and we understan why. We have to assume this. And we have to assume everyone else is assuming it, too. Or else every post is about how "this phrase is a lie" and so forth.

By the way, chronicling the NewSpeak of Democrats could be the basis of a full-time blog.

In order to critique their ideas, we have to skip over the NewSpeak and talk about the content.

111 Actually what the law does is it tries to get those that are uninsured--usually the young--to supplement the new requirements of healthcare demanded by ObamaCare-insurance for people with pre-existing conditions and the extra cost of disallowing capping. What ObamaCare essentially does is tries to get the young and healthy to subsidize the cost of Obama's new insurance regulations. ObamaCare tries to do this by forcing these individuals to buy expensive plans--comprehensive care--rather that catastrophic coverage plans--which would be much cheaper. It's interesting to note that ObamaCare never mandates that Americans us insurance to pay for healthcare--there may be a legal issue there. ObamaCare actually hopes that the young forced to buy health insurance -never cash in--they want their money to subsidize Democrat regulations.

Frank was one of the ObamaCare shills who ranted insults at opponents of the unconstitutional disaster. While the debate over ObamaCare raged throughout America, with most citizens opposing it, Frank displayed appalling arrogance and disdain toward constituents who debated him.
