Ben Stein: It's Later In America Than We Dare Think
— Ace

A very downbeat article (which begins, in earnest, on page 2; page 1 is just a travelogue).

It should scare people. And wake them up.

But think of what we have lost: I am writing this on Sunday night, September 16, 2012. The Obama administration is still apologizing to the Muslims worldwide, even in Libya even as the President of Libya says the killings there were not spontaneous but were long premeditated and the nutty movie was only a smokescreen. Our government is still saying, "Sorry," to violent mobs because an American citizen exercised his first Amendment rights. Incredibly, Jay Carney, White House spokesman, is spinning a complete fairy tale that the Islamists really like America and Mr. Obama. The murderers are just upset about a movie trailer that came out months ago. How stupid do they think we Americans are? If Mr. Obama really believes, he belongs in a straitjacket. If not, his spokesman is the biggest fantasist of all time.

Look, maybe sweet talk and apologies have a place somewhere. Maybe this should be said in private, between diplomats. But to apologize publicly to killers and arsonists over free speech in AmericaÂ… this isn't doneÂ… and of course the first amendment protects people outside the mainstream. Tom Paine, Samuel Adams, John Adams -- these were considered nuts by the British. The whole idea is to protect all speech.

And in Barack Obama's America, the man who made the movie is brought in for law enforcement questioning. This really happened just yesterday.

And Mr. Barack Obama will be President for four more years and then quite possibly Mrs. Clinton, arch apologist for American values, for years afterwards.

When republics fall, it's not always slow. It can be like slamming a door.

It is later than any dare think.

No constitutional protections afforded to Americans exercising free speech.

The full court press by the media to protect Obama isn't going to work on something so objectively horrifying to the average American, as apologizing to a ravenous mob who just murdered an American ambassador.

Yes, it will take awhile for the public to fully absorb what's gone on here, but it's over for Obama.  We tend to show our true colors in times of crises, and Romney was spot on:  Obama's first (and overriding) instinct is to apologize for an American's supposed misdeeds to Islam.

Romney landslide.

42 The Democratic PartyÂ’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C. may have doubled down on insulting the U.S. military community. The Democratic National Committee has already apologized for using a photo of four Soviet-era Russian warships in a giant stage backdrop intended to illustrate the partyÂ’s support for military personnel and veterans. That huge image, visible in the Time Warner Cable Arena during speeches by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and retired Admiral John B. Nathman, also depicted a synchronized formation of jet aircraft that convention-goers assumed were American fighter planes. But the F-5 fighter planes in the photo are part of the air force of Turkey, a nation whose government is now jailing journalists and establishing Islam as a state religion. Well if your gonna fuck up and diss America, ya might as well do a good job and go all the way!

Stein mentions Israel and the tide of war rising.

Yesterday Drudge had an article quoting an IRGC official that Israel would not dare attack Iran for lack of US support.

Ignore whether that's true or not.  The perception increases the chance of war.  At times like this, whatever is going on behind the scenes, Obama should have swallowed his pride (ha, if ever) and made some nice photo ops with Netanyahu and made sure there was no distance in between us.  Instead he openly snubbed him after years of obvious, documented, contempt.  So here we are on the brink of war.

Don't you know that Turkey is leading from the front in disestablishing a nominally secular government and returning to a more "sharia friendly" form of thugocracy.  No wonder that the Dems DNC would use th Turkish military equipment as part of their propaganda illustrating the kind of military that would not hesitate to bomb its own citizens if they became lacking in respect for government officials.

Havard University Press put out a book on the violence sparked by the Danish cartoon depicting Muhammad...without including the image at the heart of the violence.

Remember that blogger who proposed that all bloggers take one day to stand up for free speech by posting an image of Muhammad...and she quickly backed down and renounced herself?

In both cases, they concluded that the upside of standing up for speech was not as great as the downside. Free people need to change that equation. Normally, we'd have the help of the "creative arts" industry for such things. If the rioting Muslims were not "people of color," Hollywood would have been tripping over itself to crank out dramas and documentaries in defense of free speech. Academia too. Unfortunately, those two make up a huge portion of the Opinion-Shaping Apparatus in the West, and they're not interested in helping.

Re: my comment #14 above -

In looking for a linky for Ben Stein actually endorsing Obama in 2008, I can't find one, what I have found in abundance are links to Ben Stein saying that the pick of Sarah Palin as the VP nominee "scares" him.

Ben Stein got lots of press in 2008 on his dissing of Sarah Palin.  Compared picking her as VP to a card game of 52-pickup, where McCain had just thrown all the cards in the deck up in the air, and would have to pick them all up to get voters to vote for Sarah Palin.

So that's why my memory banks had him endorsing Obama in 2008, he didn't come right out and say "Vote for TFG" but he trash talked Palin incessantly.

La meme chose.

126 But think of what we have lost: I am writing this on Sunday night, September 16, 2012. The Obama administration is still apologizing to the Muslims worldwide, even in Libya even as the President of Libya says the killings there were not spontaneous but were long premeditated The Dog-Eating adminsitration has been apologizing to muzzies for 4 years, now. It's a bit late to claim that they have just started apologizing for the latest savage islamic act. THis administration and Barky HUSSEIN have been pro-muslim since the very, very beginning - before, even. And who gives a shit what the Libyan government says? THey're lying scumbags. We don't need them to let us know that a coordinated attack with RPGs and mortars wasn't something that ahmed and 50 of his buddies just decided at 3 in the afternoon to pull off an hour later. THe only people who would believe that are total retards who think that no planning is necessary for any military operations - i.e. the idiot traitors in the Barky Hussein dog-eating treasonous retard administration. [and the nutty movie was only a smokescreen. [/i] People need to stop this. THe movie is very funny and biting satire. It is quite well done and the dialogue is hysterical. It is better than most other movies and certainly much more informative than just about all of them. It is a well done movie that drives home the point that islam is not worthy of expensive sets. People who call the movie "shitty" or "nutty" or "stupid" or whatever are just mini-dhimmis trying to give an inch on OUR right to free speech. Besides the fact that the quality of the movie doesn't make one bit of difference in the argument, it is, indeed, quite a great bit of mocking satire. Better than SNL, with better sets and production value in that comparison.

If we won't enforce the laws on them then we have a very serious problem, which is why ... we have a very serious problem. If we had enforced any of our laws since he slimed into office he would have been impeached and tried for any of the tens of crimes he's committed - Libya is a shining example of that. And on and on. Not just for Barky but for the rest of the leftists - especially the unions and the corrupt leftist judges and politicians. The left does not play by the rules. Period. Make of it what you will, but that is the fact of the matter.

156 No, they didn't. Having judges pervert the meaning of laws is not "legal" in any sense.Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair

What you wrote in no way refutes CJ's statement and he is still correct.

To use your example, judges don't spontaneously errupt from the ground. They come from the schools, steeped in decades of leftism. They work with graduates and become renown one way or another and then become judges and politicians.

That takes a lot of work by a lot of people. That work by and large wasn't counted by the Right because we either didn't want to fight a cultural war or we didn't think what they were doing would fundamentally change the country.

Just because you recognize this as a great problem doesn't mean you get to handwave away correct assessments of the 'why.'

And they can be impeached (federal judges) for perverting the law and refusing to honor their oaths. Just because the refs let you get away with cheating doesn't mean that you aren't cheating.

Again, that in no shape or form refutes what CJ wrote. You're barking the wrong tree for little reason

Posted by: weft cut-loop [/i] [/b] at September 17, 2012 10:30 AM (3CiXB)

159 And in the very rare case when federal judges were impeached (it took blatant bribery for that to happen because destruction of the Constitution just isn't "enough") we didn't even sanction the piece of shit from gaining federal office, again - Alcee Hastings - who now sits on the Intelligence Committee. Yep ... great stuff. Nothing to do with their having operated "legally", just our stupidity and cowardice.

163 Regarding the Boy Scout/pedophiles thing entropy mentioned; remember how when the idea of gay marriage started getting mainstreamed some knuckledraggers asked when child molesters would turn out to be 'born that way' and we should love and understand them?

The left does cheat. If we won't enforce the laws on them then we have a very serious problem,

Answer me this: If we enforced every law that you say we didn't enforce, how different would the cultural/political landscape be?

Benedickhead Roberts would never have thought to fuck America over with that blatantly insane opinion of his, for one, which would be a major change all by itself. If you don't ever clean then everntually the dirt is embedded. That's just how things go. We didn't do the minimal maintenance necessary and the machine broke. Nothing surprising about that.

Unfortunately, the Right only gets motivitated at election time. The Left is working year-round. Everything is political to them. I really do think the Internet has allowed the Right more of a year-round platform. It's just that we're in a race to catch up, and we may have passed the point of no return.

Very.

That's it? You can't even point to a change in the political landscape. Screw the Roberts vote. I want major policy decisions being decided by the court. How did a politician get elected promising government health care? How did it pass a representative body? How is it the guy behind it is on his way to re-election? Because...they cheated? In every case?

No. Because the other side got more people to support their ideas.

172 Answer me this: If we enforced every law that you say we didn't enforce, how different would the cultural/political landscape be? Posted by: CJ at September 17, 2012 02:37 PM (9KqcB) For another simple example, if the NY Slimes and WaPo had been prosecuted for revealing national security secrets to the enemy then that would have put a bit of a lid on the MFM and their treasonous behavior. Even if the they were acquitted. After those particularly egrigious instances of illegality (though not the only ones) the MFM thought that it was free to do anything it wants. It is not illegal for the MFM to lie, of course, or to collude to propagandize America, but they would not have considered themselves totally untouchable if the earlier serious national security breeches hadn't been allowed to skate free with no problem whatsoever. You can go back in history and see how the MFM changed after those incidents, becoming even crazier than they were, by orders of magnitude.

The Left has a small cadre of hard-core Communists who eat, drink, sleep, and dream subversion. It's all they do. They're highly organized, highly disciplined, and utterly determined. Read Whitaker Chambers's Witness to see how that's been true for at least half a century.

175 There are so many people I know praying for a Romney victory, including myself.
And yet I know that moral people are in the minority in this country now.  My hope is that Romney is successful in convincing the taxpaying voters to show up in great numbers because it is in their economic self-interest to do so.

Like Abraham, people of faith in the good ole USA have become strangers in a strange land.

And yep, this little church lady has become a modest prepper.

My friend, no one agrees with you. I mean, not enough people agree with you. The guy who said he would do it was elected. Then it was passed by elected Congress. Then upheld by the court. Then the guy who said he would do it was re-elected (perhaps.)

Your entire theory rests on one man in one court ruling, while the rest remains untouched. We got Obamacare because we lost politically. Period.

The reason they were not prosecuted is because no elected politician thinks the public will support him if he tries - because conservatives have not made the case. Nothing happens in politics if politicians don't think they have enough support.

This stuff is not won or lost in a courtroom. It's fought in the court of public opinion. And we haven't been winning there.

Posted by: CJ at September 17, 2012 03:32 PM (9KqcB) Sure ... the Constitution is meaningless. Only the whim of the masses counts. You are using that argument to say that the left operates within the law. Look, we will obviously not come to an agreement on this. I don't particularly care if no one agrees with me. Too bad for them. My points of view are not moved by public opinion - as is supposed to be the point of a Constitutional Republic, logic and the whole concept of "law" that you are claiming to be opining about. You and I disagree on this. No big deal. Everyone agrees with you? Good for all of you. Democracy determines correctness, as you say ... I think our Founders might have pointed that out, too ... something about Democracy and our governmental architecture ... The Constitution was just for show.

It goes even further.  We supposed to believe that the ambassador's death was a "spontaneous" mob.

But since the perps were armed with RPGs, machine guns, and mortars, we also asked to believe that these are typical things that one brings to a demonstration in Libya.

But, MOST OF ALL, we are asked to ignore the obvious question as to how a "Spontaneous" mob was able to assassinate a US ambassasor!

And, FURTHER, we are asked to believe that the kind of security most people have in their homes (locks on doors), plus a handful of local rent-a-cops and a few cameras was a perfectly REASONABLE level of security for a US ambassador in war zone - one where the locals - in their fantasy world - bring RPGs to a demonstration.  That it was perfectly reasonable to forego any serious security, in order to "keep a low profile."

180 I've decided, with little evidence and what scant there is remembering at this time is difficult, that Mark Steyn and other pessimists must think what America "had" was due to extenuating circumstances and not the Americans ourselves. So fuck him. We Americans might be fucked, but as R. Lee Ermey has said, we can (and had best) "unfuck" ourselves.

182 Sunday labor was the death knell of this once great republic. Sports and the endless entertainment, dining, and retail of this pseudo-Christian land have replaced any depth to our communion with one another. The Jews aren't blameless, though their overwhelming presence in mass media may be a touch misleading. The consumer of vanities has to accept responsibility as well.
