Boehner Purging Non-Team-Players (But Only Non-Team-Players Playing for the Conservative Team?)
— Ace

Several Republicans were kicked off committees for casting votes against leadership's wishes, rebelling from the right. But many Republicans have rebelled from the left -- voting for Cap and Trade, for god's sake -- and remain untouched on their own committees.

26 Primaries.

If a RINO can make it to a general they know we have no option but to vote for em.  But we must make them learn to fear the primary.  The Dems have that major advantage, vast swaths of their membership (the Progressive Caucus) come from areas where their only fear is a primary attack for not being crazy enough.  We need to learn from their example.

Don't try to elect better Congresscritters, that is impossible.  What is possible is to make Republican Congresscritters fear US more than they fear the Progs.

54 Boehner is going to catch hell no matter what he does, but he has set himself up for it. He is weak, and that weakness makes him untrustworthy. Further, he has failed entirely to explain/convince anyone that he has a genuine strategy , be it LIB or else. The role of Speaker is a leadership role and he is a very poor leader. And that statement utterly fails to address his lack of skill in negotiating. The fact that the house selected him again tells me they are not listening to us whatsoever.

Who cares?  If we want non career politicians we are going to fail sometimes.  Accept that as a price of the goal or resign yourself to career politicians who won't open their chow hatch until their focus groups tell em what to say.  One or the other.

Also, we have tried this strategy of 'well we have to elect the career RINO again because a more conservative candidate might lose after the sure to be bruising primary challenge' thing for a long time.  Isn't it time to step back and reassess the success of the strategy yet?  So how is that working out for us?

Would it be better to have forty one solid conservative Rs in the Senate or fifty-one with a dozen RINOs?  I'll grant that dipping under forty and losing the fillibuster (while Reid keeps it alive) is important and we don't have unlimited room for error, but when your current plan is losing the war, and losing it hard and fast, you should be open to changing plans.

Whatever course Boehner takes in the fiscal cliff and debt ceiling talks, his response cannot be blamed on the undue influence of Tea Party 'extremists'. His will be the definitive mainstream Republican position. If that position happens to be abject and craven surrender to the Democrats then it's time, I think, for the GOP to go the way of the Whigs. The Whig Party fell apart because its leadership refused to take a strong stand against slavery. The big issue of our day is the stealth Marxist socialist takeover of the United States, which would in turn become a dictatorship in all but name. Either fight or move aside.

I consider myself a Party of Lincoln Republican. This breaks my heart.

I'm bringing this over from the previous thread since it has direct bearing on the whole fiscal cliff fiasco, to which Boehner's purging of the heretics is but one piece.

Thanks to      alexthechick (pbuh),   the Chicago Tribune     (http://trib.in/YzTEcO       is calling for Obama to show a little    flexibility and meet the Republicans part way on spending cuts.   My favorite part of the whole story   -- which still manages to be fawning and     reverent to the Boy King -- has got to be the very first sentence of the actual piece.    After a long    quote pulled from a    2009 Tribune interview with Obama in which he talks about the necessity of entitlement reform, and how he intends to "spend political capital" to make it happen, they give us this gem:

Four years later, President Obama has a golden chance to begin keeping that commitment.

Just let that soak in.

Simple.

They get the blame no matter what.

I'm voting West in 2014.  Up until that point, I will totally ignore the Republicans, and the polls, and who's getting in the race.  Don't. Care.

West is SMOD. The end of the Republican party.

BONUS: we don't have to bother forming a new party.  Just everyone Vote West.

I'll send money to DeMint and Palin, because they are effective at helping kick start races in the states.  But I'm still voting West.

Giving them what they want will not 'Let it Burn'.

Giving Barky an increase in the Debt Limit will enable him to keep the good times rolling through the rest of his term.

Giving him another big batch of Stimulus money, will enable him to bail out the broke states and give payback money to all his cronies.

So I say...No Increase in the Debt Limit.

If you want 'Burn', that will do it.

Um...are you fucking kidding?  FIFTY-ONE.  And wouldn't be a "dozen" RINOs, it would probably be three or four at most.  But yes, yes, yes, you have to be tragically naive to think there is literally any conceivable advantage, in the current political world that exists, to having 41 "true cons" versus 51 GOP Senators and control over the calendar, bringing judicial nominees to a vote, all the Senate subcomittees, etc.  Anyone who posits otherwise simply has no understanding of the scope and breadth of what a majority in the Senate enables in terms of its legislative functions.

Also, people need to realize that Dave Schweikert wasn't removed from his committee by John Boehner for being "too conservative," he was removed for being a nasty little dishonest rat-faced weasel shit who connived with the liberal media to unjustifiably tar the reputation of Ben Quayle, whom he was running against in a primary.  He's a turd who should be kicked to the curb.

Monday in Roll Call. Apparently they were fed the story before it was even true; they say they couldn't get any quotes, because their calls to the purged were the first they (the purged) heard of it. That may be bullshit. But obviously, the story was originated by Team Orange, and making a show for the media was their top priority.

Notable quote:

The shuffling is the latest sign that Boehner is flexing his muscle with the right flank of his conference as he seeks a united front during tense fiscal cliff negotiations with President Barack Obama.

That's the uncited-press-release/why-the-source-talked part of the story. So...that's the story. And it's in "whip" language, so that's where it came from.

They actually have debt proposals and a budget. How old is Ryan's original plan now?

As much as I like to criticize them- it's not like they have been sitting on their thumbs.

Conversely, Democrats have destroyed the economy and never passed a budget in four years. The President accumulates over $1.2 trillion in additional debt each year. He has tripled our national debt.

But yet if this fails...it's Republican's fault?

No small wonder why this country is fooked. Sheeple can't follow the facts.

I'm impressed that there's at least one other person (and one not normally tarred as a "RINO") around here who understands this point.  We are negotiating from a position of *EXTREME* weakness as it is.  The preening and spotlight-grabbing primadonna stuff from backbenchers -- who are more concerned about their own careerist ambitions, i.e. getting media and blog love and raising their profiles, than actually getting the best deal -- doesn't help.

"Let It Burn" is not a fucking answer -- it may make people feel better when repeating the phrase in a blog comment section, but we can all be internet tough guys since we don't have any responsibility.  Meanwhile, it's not just an irresponsible position, it's an immoral one for elected officials tasked with governing the country to take.  Even if, yes, Obama is a fucking piece of shit.

At some point, should Boehner just be willing to walk away?  You bet.  If Obama doesn't move off his current "offer" (and I use scare-quotes there) then fuck him, he's not negotiating in any real sense.  But Boehner is the only one at the table, as you said, and he needs to be able to negotiate with a free hand, without looking over his shoulder, to see if he can get something better.  Otherwise Obama and his team -- who aren't retards, you know -- will simply play the two wings off one another and screw us all even more.

Um, we have more than three or four now.  The conventional wisdom method of getting to a majority always involves choking our bile and electing yet more RINOs.  So we get nominal control and thus the blame but the the RINOs 'reach across the isle' and we still get Progs passing legislation.  Worst of both worlds.

The goal has to be first be unifying our own camp to the point where we could actually accomplish something when we next take control.  We have tried the reverse order enough times and failed that we should be ready to write it off as a bad idea.

225 it's not like the "uncompromising" position in this particular situation gets us anything/makes us look any better anyway.

The best, most conservative option on the table is to go over the fiscal cliff.  Do you see any scenario where we really get spending cuts?  Do you see any scenario where we see the tax rates stay the same, or go lower?  No, those things aren't going to happen.

The only "bargain" we'll be able to get is either a) no cuts in spending, and tax rates go up (complete loss), or... b) promised future cuts (the same as no cuts), and only the "top" tax rate goes up- which is also a complete loss.

We are spending vastly more than we take in.  We are spending vastly more than any sane person believes the government can take in.  The problem is spending.  The problem is that since O came to power the Progs have decided to just skip the whole budget process.

If we can't go forth (with a base of paid advertising to bypass the Prog Media) and make the simple bumper sticker argument that "We have a budget problem.  We are taking the no-brainer position that if we are to get a grip on the budget the first step is to actually, ya know, pass a budget.  We have actually passed a budget.  We do not expect our opponents in the Senate to like our proposal, we do however expect them to to what every Congress has done from the Founding to the election of Obama and propose a budget of their own and meet us in a House Senate Conference.  Until then there shall be no more continuing resolutions and no increase in the debt limit."

Reid is in mortal terror of a budget and if it looked like he was being forced into debating one would give us damned near anything.  They have the weak hand.  They have convinced us that they are the ones winning so we refuse to attack our enemy in his weak spot.

243 Let It Burn" is not a fucking answer -- it may make people feel better when repeating the phrase in a blog comment section, but we can all be internet tough guys since we don't have any responsibility.

WE collectively from rich to poor will have to pay off/ cough up forThe decisions made by these deciders, We don't HAVE a voice unless we send people to State what we desire. So seeing those thrown out for a better 'working environment' for Boehner doesn't really appeal to many .

245 my bet is Boehner will give him 99% of what he wants and the JEF will walk away anyway. And off the cliff we go. What happens after that? I am all for LIB on the theory that after the burning, people will realize they do not want to pay to have the state control all aspects of their lives. Assuming we re still a democracy, we can resurrect after the burning. But surely the JEF has a plan for after the fall. How much power does he grab? He is going to force the crisis. Never let a good crisis go to waste. Whatever is left of the GOP needs to realize he wants to go over the cliff and anticipate what he is gonna do when we are down there.

Posted by: Hollowpoint at December 06, 2012 02:03 PM (SY2Kh)

We would have a better chance of moderating Libertarians than pulling RINO's to the right.

The Libertarians are far more conservative than you give them credit for. Returning to constitutional government is the ultimate conservative ideal, yet most here would rather shit on Ron Paul over Iran. The drug issue is about freedom too.

I've voted R since my first vote (Reagan), my wife too. But I primaried for Ron Paul. (Texas), vote Romney in general.

We want it to burn, and are preparing for that.

Without conservatives finding common ground with Libertarians, and then taking voters from the Democrats, we will not win IN TIME to stop this.

#231 Bilbray was also in a district full of enviro-nuts and was allowed to vote for Cap and Trade to help him back home.  And it did, he was reelected easily in 2010, he just got hosed by redistricting this time and by the tidal wave for Obama in California.

One reason Democrats lost so many seats in 2010 was that Pelosi forced too many Democrats from purple and red districts to vote for Obamacare and especially Cap and Trade.  These were the Blue Dogs that gave her the majority in 2006, but she screwed them.

Too many conservatives really have no idea how the House works.

So you're saying we should let him have that?

What is the alternative? Have Republicans raise the debt limit just as high, piece by piece, with a tiny betrayal of everything they claim to stand for every couple months????

Oh, OK, I get it.  All those votes Boehner held to repeal Obamacare, and pass a budget, and extend the tax cuts - none of that had anything to do with people deciding to vote for their Republican Congressman, it was just demographics.  Funny, my Congressman ran on all that stuff and won in a district that Obama carried.

257 I'm also firmly on the let it burn bandwagon. Give the fucker everything he wants save unlimited debt raises, but still raise that to a cap.

If we go over the cliff? Republican obstructionism
If we go over the cliff and negotiate a deal afterwards? Democratic Saviors
If we get a shitty deal and then there's a recession? Republicans kept the recession preventing parts out of it
We get a pretty decent deal but there's a recession? See above

I really believe we are currently in a recession right now, it's coming regardless. It's time for some short term pain for a long term goal. I'm not ready to deal with a democrat's recession and be blamed for it and lose elections the next 20 years if not longer. Let it burn and we'll rebuild from the ashes in 2016, at least a Democrat and progressive policies will be toxic for at least a decade or so after this depression.

Boehner, aka Weepy the Dwarf, will completely cave to Obama anyway, he is a spineless Northeastern establishment Republican, not quite Olympia Snowe, but on that side of the spectrum.

The sooner he just surrenders without a fight and gives Obama everything he wants, the less bad press from the MSM.

Obama stole the election, he has assumed the Article I powers Boehner should have to pass laws or cancel laws he doesn't like by Executive Order, and Weepy says nothing.  We no longer really live in a Constitutional Republic anymore, we are closer to Venezuela than most people think.

The Fed already buys almost 90% of the debt, we will go Zimbabwe/Weimar hyperinflation soon, Social Security which "invested" its surplus in long term Treasuries will pay pennies on the dollar, and the elderly will soon be dumpster diving, and it probably no longer matters what kind of deal is reached, its is past the tipping point of debt to GDP, and all the arguing is about where to hang pictures on the Titanic after the iceberg.

272 Also, based on my observations, Huelskamp's primary problem is his attitude. He has offered a variety of reasons for his ouster while conveniently failing to mention that other members who hold the same views have retained their assignments. (E.g., both he and Amash feel military spending should be on the table and they speculated that their overall view on the issue might be one reason for their removal.) Furthermore, he changes his attitude based on who is in the audience. Conservative members ought to be able to express their dissent when leadership is moving in the wrong direction but they need to do it with the proper attitude. Some of the biggest thorns in Boehner's side won concessions by arguing their cases rationally and consistently. Huelskamp could do more for the cause if he would follow their example.

275 RE #274 and the military spending issue, what I was trying to say is that both men offered it as a potential reason for their removal but there are other members both on and outside of Budget who share their opinion. Moreover, it does not explain why Huelskamp was also stripped of his Agriculture assignment.

So we're supposed to call these people out for what they are? How? You just said yourself that the Lib's (not to be confused with the LiB [let it burn] community) control the media. You're right about the media, we can't forget that you and I are playing for the same team here.

But it's going to be very difficult to explain how Republicans are at fault for the policies that Dear Leader was pushing for himself, especially after the media is going to be declaring Obama the "great uniter" and proclaim his bi-partisan powers to bring a deal together that has saved the nation, from certain disaster no less. You, I, Ace, and every commenter here knows we're going to be hearing about that for weeks from the Media as trolls show up to take part in some more schadenfreude.

But then Unemployment jumps up, the next Quarter shows a rapid decline in GDP, and the following shows a contraction.

I'm living in a post-election world now, we tried all of the last election cycle to convince voters that Obama was terrible with reason and logic, they responded as children do, now it's time for them to take their medicine. Because the only way we return to the a senate majority, let alone the white house, is by making a big fucking picture of what liberal and progressive policies do. There's simply no better picture than a full blown depression.

Or, we can follow your plan, stand against him and be viciously blamed for it, Obama gets his tax increases anyway, gets to blame Republicans for a huge increase on middle class tax cuts as well as the recession that's coming, we're forever labeled as the party of the rich who destroys the middle class, and then lose huge in 2014.

But hey, at least we stood by our principles.

Let it burn. It's time to stop treating the electorate like adults, and treat them like the children they are.
