— Pixy Misa He just left his meeting with Turbo Tim Geitner. He seems to be throwing cold water on the talks and saying the White House isn't taking this seriously.
[Update: Press conference over. Video Below]
Boehner called on the White House and Democrats to publically name what cuts they would accept. Boehner called the current deal "way out of balance." He didn't mention what was in it.
"Revenue is only on the table if there are serious spending cuts that are part of this agreement.

Can't see it on the blog. Didn't watch it. Don't care. I expect he folded - in the words of Bartholomew J. Simpson - faster than Superman on laundry day.
One of my fantasies - a G-rated one, anyway - is that every day Boehner, McConnell, McStain, Grahamnesty and all the other limp-wristed RINO bastards would be forced to read the AoS comment threads to have it thrown in their faces how much the base despises them.

Bringing this over from the News thread, since it's related to fiscal cliffyness:
White House Dossier:
President Obama is reportedly scheduled to be vacationing in Hawaii on January 2, the date billions in spending cuts – and untold consequences for the economy – will kick in if a deal is not reached on the “fiscal cliff.”
According to the Hawaii Reporter, residents who live in the area of Oahu where Obama and his family vacation have been told that the usual restrictions on their movements during an Obama stay will be in place for 21 days, from December 17 through January 6....

I'm reading that the deal right now is tax increases now, and cuts 10-20 years later. 1.2 trillion in tax increases over the next ten years against 400 billion in cuts that start in 10 years, which means they will never happen.
This sounds familiar. I remember this deal from the early '80s.

As others have pointed out the GOP failed to do anything about promised cuts after the '82 and the '92 tax hikes.
The GOP has been a silent partner in the DEM's spending plans.

Sir, with respect. The entire Government can spend no money WITHOUT the say so of the House of Representatives. You have the whip hand. Understand that this tax increase, with no IMMEDIATE spending cuts, will kill what is left of the economy. You have a choice... you can cave and be seen as a Hero to the Media, and the Left... or you can stand... and potentially save this Country. YOU are the one who negotiated us into this position.... now I am sorry to say YOU need to be the one to fix it.

Boehner also said that once he saw that Mitt Romney would lose the race for the White House, he went to sleep at about 11:15 p.m. on election night with the realization that he would wake up to divided government, but still "slept like a baby."
"I may not like the five cards that have been dealt to me, but those are the cards I've got in my hand, and my job on behalf of the American people is to find a way to vote with my Democratic colleagues and a Democratic president to solve America's problems," he said. America has been on the Long March of Socialism since FDR (and Wilson, for that matter). It goes in fits and starts. Sometimes noticeable, other times not so much. The Marxist who rules us speeded up the process, and is open about it because he knows he can get by with it.
The truth seems to be that we've tipped into a place where nationally an urban majority like what he's pushing. That's why we have to separate from them, if we care about preserving the remains of a country that is not hard Left. Just my take.

"End food stamps as we know it. If you're qualified for food stamps, then you'll be provided with a "basic nutrition survival pak" each week to be distributed by grocery stores."
That's coming later, for everyone. For now, food stampers go to the grocery, buy a single grape for 2 cents, and pay for it with a $100 EBT card. Then they walk to their dealer and/or the booze store with the $99.98 in change.

A 1/3 reduction of SNAP costs, while providing SUPERIOR ACTUAL DELIVERY OF NUTRITION, is a win-win.

They're not reactionaries and ranters like Levin and Hannity and the AoS commenters.
Rush and Glenn identify the problem, recognizes what the Democrats are doing and what they'll do next, and then devise a plan to resolve it.
I'm so sick of the bitching and idle chatter. You want change? Do something.

Not sure if this is just being cutesy or actually serious, that's how far removed from reality this statement is.
Rush and Beck 'identifying' things doesn't do a thing to change what they've identified. And what, pray tell, are their plans you speak of? Write to your Congressman, as though they listen to you? Demonstrate with a march on D.C.? Impressive visually, actual change effected? A few million folks taking the day off of work to be activists, whilst the Dems continue their federally-funded 24/7/365 agitating. Two if by Tea?
You seem to think we're catching the cancer in its early stages. We're not. You seem to think we're becoming aware of the invasion before the boats launch. They haven't just landed, they've set up base in our own territory.
This isn't the opening volley or second wind, this is the damn endgame. It's a little late for reaction and contingencies.

This has nothing to do with the idiotic whims of the populace.
It has everything to do with what national leadership is doing with the time the idiotic whims of the populace have granted them.
They have the time they need now, in this economic climate, in the world theatre, to effect changes that basically seal the deal. The flightiness of the American electorate is no longer an issue - the Left eked out a necessary victory, and the Republicans lack the force of character and conviction to actually fight in a meaningful way.
Hence, endgame.

Acknowledging reality would be a start.
That reality is that the Dems control the presidency and Senate, and the schizophrenic voting public wants a "balanced" approach. But only if there's no chance it will affect them or the spending programs they like.
That's who elected officials in the GOP have to answer to. Meanwhile, their base can't decide what they want them to do. Anything done today can be undone in two years if the GOP loses the House.
The idealistic, naive view that if only the GOP leadership would fight fight FIGHT, they'd be able to somehow get massive spending cuts, tax cuts, and ponies for all? Not reality.
That doesn't mean they need to completely roll over and cave, but the No Compromise Take No Prisoners crowd needs to face the fact that negotiations do, in reality, entail negotiation.

I recall subdued voices, questions concerning blast effects and the availability of food, water, etc. I asked my Dad a few weeks ago why everyone came over to our place, and he told me that we had the only basement for blocks. This is the real problem, not his "negotiating with the President". Before he even *sees* the President he's talked himself down from about where the Horde would be happy to well below anything that will make a difference. And *then* he starts getting talked down further by the Dems.

At this point, people need to seriously prepare for economic disruptions, just like preparing for hurricanes and the like. I am betting that total societal collapse is unlikely but stagnation and decline with increased disorder is highly possible. For pointers, read good economic and social histories of Argentina to get an idea of what may be coming economically and politically.
