Be strong. Life is about discovery, and sometimes even unwelcome discoveries.
Let me just suggest that there are some circumstances in which a smartly-executed "Now hold on there, Princess" is not only acceptable, but well-nigh mandatory.

So do US networks have a special department dedicated to recruiting Brit asswipes, e.g., Piers Morgan and Martin B.?
It's hard to find snooty presenters in the US so the networks had to recruit them offshore. BTW, Stuart Varney is not snooty.

Accusing a military officer of political ties "He currently serves President Obama so his comment isn't surprising" = Totally disrespecting the service of a senior military officer.

Did you all see there was some report about how Romney's ads against the JEF that called him out for lying were the most effective?
I know there have been a few flashes of Romney understanding that the media is the Democrats but, I think he needs to drop an ad pointing out the dishonesty of the media and their coordination with the Dems.
I figure, something along the lines of McCain's "Celebrity" ad would do it.
Or maybe something along the lines of all the times bad economic news has been unexpected.
Get the public to distrust or dismiss the media and no amount of squirrels will matter.

I'm less upset with Morgan than Dempsey. I expect Morgan to be a pussy because (a) he's on CNN and (b) he's a liberal. It's Dempsey's criticism that's the issue. It is such fucking bullshit that I can't even believe he said it.
These guys are not active military. They are either retired or discharged. (All of them honorably discharged BTW)
You don't give up your right to speak if you've ever worn a uniform. Nor did I note any of these guys standing in front of a camera IN uniform. If they had been, Dempsey would have a point. They weren't...so he doesn't.
When you add all this up, the point of Morgan's guest is correct. Dempsey serves under the Obama Administration, so its logical to expect him to minimize politics in order to keep the military out of the political line-of-fire. Yes he serves the Constitution, but practically he also serves an Administration as a very senior military adviser. Which makes it all the more incredible that he didn't just say, "That's politics. I'm in the military. The military doesn't 'do' politics."
Ironically, it's Dempsey who mixed politics and the military.

Only Generals at 3-star level and above are directly approved by Congress. For 1 and 2-stars Congress just rubber stamps the internal selections of the military services.

1. the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs commands nothing. He is the head of the Joint Chiefs, who themselves command nothing, and only head up the administrative end of their respective service, and act as advisers.
2. Are appointed to that very political position directly by the POTUS and serve at his pleasure.

Uh, because we're a democracy and voters can make up their own minds about whom they will listen to? I believe that the same thing is the case in the UK, isn't it?
In US you decide whether to pay for a TV channel, in UK they make you pay for TV whether you like it or not. If you don't pay up and own a TV set you get fined or even jailed. Nice racket they have in Olde England, I can't understand why people accept it.
Posted by: Decaf at August 24, 2012 09:47 AM (o2KLI)
They generally don't mess with you, but if an officer goes out and starts making disparaging comments that the senior military leaders do not like they can come down on him like ton of bricks. Officers are still subject to the UMCJ after discharge because they are never truly discharged until 55. They are placed on "inactive duty".
At least that was my understanding when I left the service in the 70s.

For officers it is absolute. You can be charged under article 88 for any statement that becomes public. You are bound by this while active, in the reserves at any level including inactive reserves, or retired. The only way to end out is to fully resign your commission.

It's clear how this was going to go, whether he booted the guy or not.
Liberals LOVE the "argument from authority" fallacy. You can see that Bashir had already decided to go with the idea that the general was an indesputable authority figure, and therefore anybody who disagreed with him is wrong. Just look at how liberals give each other awards, like the Nobel Peace Prize. My brother amused me once by essentially claiming that I couldn't question the wisdom of Tom Freidman because he has 3 Pulitzer Prizes, and I don't.
The "if you disagree then you're unpatriotic" angle is amusing though.
That being said, you generally do NOT want to see the military get political. It would cause infighting, and make you question their motives when things happen. But this particular case shows an arguable concern regarding national security.

If your commission is still held by the US at any level, where they have not dropped you from rolls (e.g. If yo get out after your 4 years active you choose to leave you still have 4 years inactive before you can fully resign) you can be charged. For retirees you have to be dropped from rolls (I have no idea when this occurs) before you are 100% clear of ART 88. The US has a habit of maintaining inactive officers on rolls forever unless they specifically resign. Mostly because if they drop they're done, recalling them becomes nigh impossible.

Day-um, I forgot about him. Gawd he was an idiot. First thing Fogelman did when he got in was to get rid of McPeak's United Airlines pilot uniforms.
Back in the day I used to think that "TQM" meant, "To quote McPeak."

If I doubt this Limey socialist of Pakistani origins does not have the US' best interests at heart, does that make me a racist, a rabid nationalist, or just a bad person?
Foreign nags. Yeah, we need more of those.

NYC Empire State Bldg. 9am
Mr. Johnson, designer of women's accessories, kills boss who fired him.
On the street police shoot, killing him and injuring pedestrians en route to work.
All's fair in love and war, goose and gander? DHS to target designers of women's fashion accessories as home grown domestic terrorists? Deny fashion designers and fashion salesmen gun rights?

Yes, serving flag rank officers are going to parrot whatever the current administration's position is, or find some way to defend it.
If Bashir had interviewed retired generals, he would have gotten a somewhat different reaction.

To the extent GOP the guest was implying that the general's opinion was a suck-up to Obama, because he works for him, that was wrong.
That's all I gots.

What you have to understand is that Bashir is a British Leftist. There is a whole host of implications to that, but the one that matters the most in this context is that he is instinctually religious about his politics. That means if someone opposes his Leftist political leader/positions, in this case the Big "O", his response will be almost exactly the same as the Spanish Inquisition's was when defending "The Church". He will demonize, de-humanize, call names that validate instinctual hatred and will do his best to silence and destroy anyone who does not follow along and meekly parrot the party-line. This is an archaic instinctual survival strategy that came about over the last 2000 years in Europe through centuries of religious persecution by the state religion, the Catholic Church. It resulted in a human being that, to survive, had to ignore the truth and reality, mindlessly repeat and believe chapter and verse, puritanically obey and support even the most ridiculously stupid, hypocritical positions as being "More Moral" and be as vicious as a Nazi in attacking anyone who opposes "The Church".
He cannot help it.

"I won't take this film too seriously,’ he responded. ‘I gather that one of the producers is a birther who still doesn't think I was born in this country. You've got one who was a candidate, a Republican candidate for office. And a proud card carrying member of the Tea Party. So this is obviously a partisan film."
Any word on whether Bashir will be rushing to criticize Obama's disparaging remarks against servicemen?
It's revealing that Obama thinks it's not controversial to dismiss the Tea Party as partisan. Just the way he flippantly said that the police "acted stupidly," we "didn't build that," we "cling to guns and religion," "the private sector is doing fine," and that Obama's son would "look like Trayvon."
He doesn't get it.

He has no distinguishing features save for a British accent (which gives him that fake air of authority) and tinted skin. One can only imagine he left Britain because of racism ('even' Prince Harry uses the derogatory term "Paki") and his lack of talent.

Yes, he's on a channel that's to the left of CNN but slightly to the right of FSTV.

Nah. Deep Space Nine. I remember because in real life he was married to that ultra-hot Major Kira chick.
