— CAC Rasmussen will be releasing a poll this morning showing Akin costing us dearly in Missouri: McCaskill 48% Akin 38%.
Time to pack it up and stop screwing us, big guy.
Poll result here
More telling- most Democrats want him to stay, most Republicans want him out. Which party is he representing again?

You know, the strident, angry feminist voice just doesn't play well in 2012. They can pack and stack their convention with as many latterday Abzugs and Steinems as they please. That is not the issue of the moment. And they in no way present acceptable eye candy to the American female.

Is the Missouri Republican Party legally obligated to allow Akin to run as its nominee or can the Party step in and replace him? I understand that these things aren't typically done, perhaps for fear of burning bridges, but sometimes you've gone a bridge too far.
As an extreme example, suppose the primary winner came out after the fact and denied the Holocaust. Would the Party be required to keep the candidate or could they cut him loose?

Bond is probably an easy choice, depending on the write-in rules.
A really short and easy to remember name makes it much easier to win as a write-in. So does massive name recognition, which helped out that Murky skank from Alaska against Joe Miller.

When figuring out 'how much Hispanic voters' like candidate X, do they weigh the responses by party? If not, why not?
Why is it that when we want to know what 'voters' think, we take a small (IMO) sample then weigh it. When we want to know what 'women/hispanics/etc' think, we take a small (IMO) sample and run with it.

Intellectual Property Law, do you speak it? I don't know that IP comes into play there, but I suspect it does. At the very least, the terms of service probably preclude you giving that information away for free, since that's part of how he makes his money.
As for curiosity? Not really. Ras has been proven over the years to be among the most accurate pollsters, and he makes his living by providing accurate polling. If he suddenly went in the crapper, it would hurt his credibility, and, thus, his business.
Also, people I trust, and who understand polls better than I do, have assured me that he's accurate and reliable. I trust them, so I trust him.

Hard to believe that Brian Williams, who delivers at least one sloppy BJ to Bark Obama on NBC "news" every night, can go farther into the tank for his Messiah. But I'm positive he will, since he has Eeeeevil Mormonism to attack.
It is, of course, Wrong and Intolerant to report on the crimes committed in the name of Islam.
I have this increasingly forlorn hope that at least a few voters will one day look at Choom Boy's commercials (and those of his co-conspirators) and think "WTF?," but with so much non-stop cheerleading going on, I'm doubting it will happen.

Not really, because I know why. Partisan ID normalization. I know why Rasmussen normalizes and where he gets his factors from. What I don't know is why the Q poll uses a D+8, the Fox poll uses a D+11, and the Pew poll uses a D+19.
Providing crosstabs are nice, but they don't explain why they chose that normalization factor, when there are no electoral results that support it.
A few people have renormalized some of these polls (which is not something that results in perfect accuracy) and come up with a Romney lead of about 3 or 4 across the board. Pretty much in line with Rasmussen (and Gallup now).

I think it's just some paperwork that has to be filed, and a Court Order issued. Technically the Court might reject it, but they'd be hard pressed to explain why. That is, if Akin chooses to drop out.
If the GOP tries to force him out (which would be bad), that's a different story, of course.

What?! RR came out immediately and said they disagreed with Akin. The MO GOP tried to get him to drop out immediately. Current and former senators from MO advised him to drop out. Jon Cornyn pulled Akin's funding as did Karl Rove....immediately.

"Where is our political jujitsu? "
It is largely weak. As responsible adults, we tend to expect one another to also be responsible adults. When they don't, well, that's when we start trying to figure out alternatives, but the clock is already running.
Dems, on the other hand, as back-stabbling children, expect one another to also be back-stabbing children, and thus make sure they've gotten four levels of Survivor-esque alliances and alternatives lined up for whenever the back-stabbing commences.
Put it another way - if Biden really did go unspinnably full-retard in a stump speech somewhere, do you think that there would be a big ordeal about trying to "convince" him to step aside? Fuck no. He'd be gone before the next sun rose. There are Mechanisms in Place. And he knows it, so he limits himself to only the unintentional stupidity.
Now, do you think that there is any sort of alternate contingency plan in place right now for Paul Ryan? Seriously, anything more than maybe a couple notes on a piece of paper somewhere?

Dave Krepcho, director of the Second Harvest Food Bank, checks inventory at the food bank warehouse in Orlando, Fla. In the past four years, food distribution to 500 pantries, shelters, and other relief agencies in the six-county area has jumped about 60 percent. In the last year alone, that amounted to 36 million pounds of food. Krepcho estimates about 30 percent of those seeking help are first-timers. They're blue-collar and white-collar, many middle class, even some upper middle class. They include college-educated couples and professionals.
Things have gotten worse in the last four years? Let's run on this on pound Barry over the head for the shitty economy.

No one has ever lost an election after a legitimate gaffe. If it does happen, it is very rare. The electoral system, it has ways of shutting that kind of thing down.
I just did a google news search for Todd Akin. 8,060,000 results. Then I did a search for Obama's 'OIHO' gaffe. 336 results. And that was using just the word 'OIHO' as a search parameter. Using '+obama +ohio +gaffe' got zero results. Using '+obama +oiho' also got zero results.
Democrats are not going to let this go...every time a dem finds him/her/itself in a room with a reporter, they're going to mention Akin, Romney, and the RNC. The guy is a distraction, and is hurting conservative chances in races outside of MO. He needs to man up, and drop out.

Too many comments to respond directly to
He has to go. Evidence is piling up that he is costing the GOP not only in MO but nationally. Without Akin reporters aren't pestering R/R about abortion
Rasmussen is one of the most accurate pollsters there is. Saying he is a plant of the GOP and this a GOP designed poll to get him out is ridiculous. Saying the PPP poll that was R+9 was designed to keep him in was more accurate
The GOP needed to cut him off - they have completely denounced him and yet the media and Dems are using him to bash the GOP
The GOP needs run someone against him and McCaskill. The poll shows that McCaskill is still beatable with another candidate. Even if the GOP falls short in MO running another candidate it would help isolate this issue to MO and prevent it from spreading (GOP can say hey look we wanted somebody else)
I don't expect him to drop out. He thinks it was just one word in one sentence in one comment that was the problem, not the whole package. And if he doesn't get that McCaskill spent $1.5MM in ads helping him in the GOP primary to ensure he won he is naive

Those who are fully pro-life and all that that entails.
The GOP is fully pro-life.
The Donks are fully pro-choice.
It would seem the providence has pushed this fight into the spotlight.
Let's have at it and let the chip's fall where they may.

Our goal is for the people of Wisconsin to not forget President Obama and his inability to remember us as he continually flies over for his endless fundraisers.”

As much as we can appreciate Ryan's appeal from his photos, you have to see him in person to get an idea of his charisma. But he's not just a pretty face (and bod). He's informed, articulate, focussed, and displays all the true marks of a leader without the scariness. His opening remarks had to do with defense cuts, and then went on to the economic platform.
If Team Romney gets him out to critical counties in swing states, I don't think they'll have to worry too much about the women's vote.

Remember: It was a mere four years ago that that turd was open and proud about smearing Mitt over religion. It takes a man of the worst character to use another man's religion for political gain. And Huck couldn't wait to do so.
There is no way that Huck comes out against Akin. Because 1) I think Huck would rather Obama win than a Morman win. He has well proven that his hatred of Mormons exceeds all else (Name one Huckabee criticism of Obama?). 2) He sees this as his play to gain back power. However stupidly, he thinks he can leverage the threat of Akin's Mutually Assured Destruction for concessions from the GOP.
We need to wrap our heads around the fact that there are evangelicals who view Mormans worse than moslums; they hold "Bible studies" about how Mormons aren't Christians, they talk from the pulpit about how Mormons are a cult and on and on. It is a fringe, a small fringe but, they are out there fully convinced only they have God's Truth.

Sooner or later the Republican Party will very seriously regret its attachment at the hip to the so-con political movements. How many more loons are lurking around out there just waiting for the rocks to be turned over and their true selves to be revealed ?
My guess is more than one would care to think.
Here's the thing though. If as many suspect, this stupid, ignorant, man has a clear history of this type of insanity, which is probably why the Dems supported him, why did not SANE Republicans call him out on it before it all blew up in their faces ? Were they content that he was a complete loon as long as it was not noticed ? Did they not see what a danger such a candidate could be ----- Across The Country ?

JackStraw has it. It is the economy, stupids.
So Akin fucked up? Remember:
1. It's a sideshow issue
2. If you are going to replace Akin, you had better have someone who steps in at the 11th hour and can do it, or else you are just cowering before the Liberal Media Narrative.
Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom sums it up:
We witnessed gross anti-intellectualism and the insidious politically correct chilling of speech through an aggressive, Twitter-fueled pique of competitive outrage. It was disgusting to watch frankly — with people actively trying to one-up each other in their purported bother over a minor point on the pro life continuum. The reasons for this I can only speculate upon: a desire to be seen as a “thinking” conservative, set apart from those kind, whose godbothery social conservatism has always made them suspect to the cognoscenti; a cynical opportunism to replace one candidate with a preferred candidate; an ostentatious sanctimony that seems very important to a large portion of the online right.
Whether Akin should have stepped down or not was never my concern. My concern — and my criticism — has always been aimed at the those who placed our Senate chances in Missouri in jeopardy by reacting to a gaffe as they did. And it wasn’t Todd Akin — who did the perfunctory apology tour almost immediately. Or rather, his contribution was minor, and his recovery would have been easy had it not been for the reaction from the right — from online calls for his removal, to press releases sent by GOP officials, and so on. In the end, this is what sunk Missouri for the Republicans: if you are going to publicly call for the removal of a candidate as a show that you, too, are FOR WOMEN!, you’d better first make sure he’s willing to step aside to give you your moment of cheap grace and social posturing.

Posted by: mama winger in Paul Ryan's district at August 23, 2012 06:48 AM (P6QsQ)
Sure. Let me give a shoutout to a professional pollster who went by the name Aurora back in 2004. He taught me an incredible amount about polling.
All polls provide a wide range of sampling. If you are only asking 800 people their opinions, then it is pretty easy to end up getting 600 Democrats in your sample. What most pollsters do is they will use a party ID sample as a screen to determine if they will count the results of that response. They will then drop a random set of responses from the sample and not count them in the results. Sometimes they will also keep polling until they get enough of the proper ID to generate a statistically significant sample.
This is normalization, you want your results to be statistically significant, so you adjust the number based on the factors you consider important. Other common screens to use a likely voter, registered voter, and gender. Sometimes a poll might look for racial makeup as well.
So a normalized poll of 800 likely voters may have samples from 1200 people. But a number of those aren't counted because they need the final result to match a specific model. In Rasmussen's case, he is normalizing based on a secondary poll, which is a really good methodology. In the case of a poll like Pew, with a D+19 sample, you have to wonder what their normalization criteria was. They could say they didn't use one, they just happened to get a D+19 response. But what makes us all suspicious is that they never seem to get an R+12 result.

Reporters are going to start asking Republican candidates all sorts of wonderfully pointed questions to entice "responses" which can be fully exploited by the Donks.
It would be nice if
A) We either fully embrace it and have a GOP widespread brainstorming session.
B) Learn how to deflect or turn around these questions.
Because now every Republican has to formulate a response to being accused of being anti-science and being pro rape. Which is completely unfair but this is where we are.

the party that defends rapists, choom kings, and whomever come what may is down the hall....
this is not about abortion, or "freedom of speech" this is about a man so weapons' grade stupid he is destroying the party.
In other words, you are dancing to the Liberal Media Tune.
Akin screwed up, apologized, and had it not been for the piling on, that could have been the end of it. Had the posturing members on our side instantly started talking about McCaskill’s abortion position vs that of Akin’s — that is, saying something along the lines of what I offered up yesterday — they would have recovered quickly and the subject dropped by the left.
The truth is, many on the right who keep telling us that this is the most important election ever and we have to win are the same ones whose first instinct is to help neuter conservative candidates.
Sorry, but thatÂ’s just what I see.
I am not anti-abortion, and I am all for replacing Akin if it can be done at the 11th hour. But General Woundwort has it: Let's point out what disgusting Baby killers the Obamunists are with their 9th month and even after birth abortions.
Also, for a pro-life candidate to be talking about abortion in addition to fiscal and economic matters, I addressed it in the post: Akin is pro life and has always run as such; McCaskill helped support a government mandate that requires the Catholic Church, among others, to pay for abortifacients. That creates a stark choice for voters who perhaps like the PresidentÂ’s manipulation of markets but doesnÂ’t like his insinuation into religious issues.

Foolishness like this is precisely why the country will continue to swirl the drain, regardless of what masturbatory delusions you cook up about how Mitt Romney's gonna save the economy. This whole charade will repeat itself, and do you know why?
Because, by and large, the people do not care about anything other than their own benefit, and wish to be left to that. That attitude is precisely why, even if the Republicans do take wide-ranging control of the government, there will be no will to effect the truly necessary changes to save the country. The basic problem remains - nobody gives a damn about anything other than themselves. They'll seek to ensure their own well-being with little regard for the well-being or safety of others; sure, someone's going to protest mightily how unfair that charge is, but if you shove your faux righteous indignation aside for a moment, you'll see the truth of it.
"Mountain of infant corpses? Who gives a fuck, there's payroll to consider." You can't understand it, I know, but a nation without justice is doomed to die off. It's gonna happen. It is gonna happen. And since you cannot see the forest for the trees, all you can do is whine about how nobody's paying attention to the primary topic of importance. Blind.

This incident is a good indicator that many on the right have not learned the lesson about controlling the narrative, or at least following their own narrative, rather than buckling under to the narrative created by the left. The "progressive" Commiecrats should feel very proud of themselves. They have the right falling all over themselves to demonstrate their "progressive" credentials.

Personally, I think Akin is a Godsend. He brought the issue out early, and let Romney kill it hard. The ads about "Romney being against abortion even in the case of rape" were ALREADY running in Florida, months before Akin.
The Dems are going to overplay this, because it is all they have and they really do believe they hold the majority opinion on murdering babies.
See Memorial, Wellstone.
This affects only the MO SEN race, which frankly became a problem when Akin won the primary. The MO voters didn't know he is a total fucking idiot. It has minimal effect on Romney or the rest of the Senate races.

"How many days until our convention? Reince and Mitt need to take care of this problem before the convention."
Reince and Mitt pick Akin up at the airport in Tampa.
Akin: "Hey guys! How ya doing? I'm really excited to go to the convention today! Let's go! *sticks his head out of the open window and lets his tongue loll out as they pull away*
*Mitt and Reince remain silent as Reince drives out of the city, smiling softly, sympathetically*
Akin: "Hey guys! I didn't know we moved the convention out here! It's really pretty out here, this is a great place for the convention!"
Mitt: "Here's good." *Reince pulls to the side of the empty two-lane country road*
Mitt: "Hey Akin! You're a good boy, Akin! Let's get out and play!"
*Mitt throws a frisbee. Akin retrieves it and brings it back. Mitt throws it further. Akin finds it and brings it back*
Akin: "This is a great convention, guys! I love this convention!"
*Mitt throws the frisbee really far and off to one side. It lands in an overgrown drainage culvert, deep in the tall grass. Akin spends several minutes finding the frisbee, digging it out, and then bounds back to where the car used to be parked on the side of the now completely-empty road. He pants softly, looking one way and then the other, his tail wags slowly, expectantly...*

Highlight the mechanical aspects of partial birth abortions. If the media wants to talk abortion, IMMEDIATELY start talking about skull puncturing and vacuum sucking of brains. Don't talk "murder", forget moral arguments, etc. The mildly pro-abortion crowd has a natural immunity against those arguments.
Keep the discussion mechanical and focused on the cringe factor of SUCKING BRAINS OUT THROUGH A TUBE.
The media will switch topics very quickly because that shit is straight up nasty and brutal and tough to sell to the 90% of the public that's not rabid single issue pro-abortion.

Exactly, Jack! Rather than acknowledging it was a gaffe and moving on, we have people on our side who think they can make the liberal media like them by posturing and baying for Akin's blood, rather than quietly working behind the scenes (if something can be done at this 11th hour), and then making the best of it when they realize there is not.
I'm not surprised Akin decided to get pigheaded and hang in there. I mean, having your own side — from the Presidential candidate on down — calling for you to step aside, surrender your career, and take one for the team who just helped fuck you, that tends to piss a guy off.

We are not trying to convince the media. We are trying to convince the soft-squishy, completely unprincipled voter.
Meanwhile, Akin grabs ahold of the (R) party while failing to notice the concrete anchor he attached to himself through his own stupidity.
At least you acknowledge that he is only in it for himself, and that it has nothing to do with a stand on principle, since we both know that he is hurting his professed cause, as well as general fiscal sanity.

"Partisan ID normalization."
Polling firms can justify just about any partisan ID combination they want. They can simply apply the last presidential election breakdown, use combinations of historical data and current registrations or just make shit up and work backwards to make the math semi-believable.
Sometimes, people will give the other side favorable numbers because of the way other pollsters slide from adults to registered to likely as the election nears. If they start with a bias towards dems, as the other pollsters switch to more accurate model they can reinforce the preference cascade by adjusting their numbers more toward reality.

(sven) "they will try to spin it as "we should have made OUR pov the center of the platform and recruited Huck!" unless I miss my guess...."
Now who is saying this? Huck isn't running. And frankly, he has been backpedaling from his 2008 fuckup gaffe--publicly--ever since then, you can watch his Fox News show as living proof.
Akin fucked up, we all know this. But (1) the issue is still a sideshow, and (2) the attempts of some of you to make the liberal media like you won't work and they never have.
If the Commiecrats want to die on the abortion hill, then let's go partial birth and after birth on them. Meanwhile, Obama is still a SCOAMF, and Claire McCaskill is an Obamunist stooge

Hold the presses, but the newpaper of record says Akin can still win.
"Victory for Akin Seen as Difficult, but Still Possible" NYT H/T Hotgass
Is a Moron is punching at the NYT punching up or down?

How many Democrats do you think would say they could never support McCaskill if she had said the same thing?
Obviously it's not quite the same thing since the MSM would have made sure that hardly anyone heard about it, but it still says something about the morals of the two parties.
BTW - If it meant the difference between winning or losing the Senate I would still vote for the idiot. The other 50 Republican senators would more than drown him out, which is far better than letting Harry "Wizard of the KKK" Reid stay in control.

You go on ahead and mosey over to hotair and see the Church groups lining up behind Captain Error.....
Huckafuck is relying on the Christians closing ranks behind Akin and enough will they'll raise hell win or lose.
This is a retarded attempt by Huckabuck to Xanatos gambit the GOP FiCon wing....
and ME giving two shits about the newsies liking me?
Yeah I can tell you're around a lot then dude.
I want to start having the GOP break necks and jaws of the newsies....
you got the wrong cowboy there pardner....I just understand the reality of the battlescape.

al-NYT why won't you like *my* picks?
Oh that's right they kick socialist ass unlike the Akin wing

Amazing how there are so many Republicans who say they could never support Akin.
Posted by: Norcross at August 23, 2012 11:50 AM (4EA5K)
Amazing how many Republicans actually want to win the Senate.
Posted by: Schnack at August 23, 2012 07:53 AM (rrpa4)
sven dear: do you have anyone at this 11th hour who can step in and win, given MO election rules? I didn't think so. If you "understand the reality of the battlescape", then understand *that*.
If you really "understand the reality of the battlescape", then realize this is a sideshow, that McCaskill is a SCOAMF stooge, and that you shouldn't give up, even after an admittedly dumbass mistake.
Posted by: Curmudgeon at August 23, 2012 07:55 AM (ujg0T)
Darling, I could give a shit about the MO Senate seat. Banging your heels together muttering there is no place like home does not change the media jihad on the GOP using Fuckstick's retardese Vagina monologues as a club bless both your hearts. He should have left, and in trying to hang on is either a defacto or dejure Dem operative.
Cut his ass off and someone should cauterize his vocal chords.

Mr. Akin, Do you believe that abortion should be outlawed, even in cases of rape or incest?
"On the issue of abortion, I'd simply like to contrast my position with that of President Obama, who believes that a baby, out of the womb and breathing, should be left to die if that is the will of the mother. I stand against infanticide!"
Is that really so hard?

he will not go for it, it was already on the table and that bit of gymnastics requires MO donk court approval....that is why I think Akin is a knowing or patsy stooge for Huck....

I wish we knew for sure. I would go after Huck with everything I had, including demanding Ailes cancel his contract.
By the way, Huck's home is in Florida now. He built a big mansion down there.

(sven) Darling, I could give a shit about the MO Senate seat.
And there you have it. What you care about is posturing. Never mind that we can't move someone into position this late in the game, never mind that this issue is still a SIDESHOW, never mind that if they really want to go full on abortion, then let's talk about partial birth and even retroactive.
Some of us don't want to give up the field, even after a serious fumble. You apparently do. And again, to use the football analogy, I'd be more than happy to move in another QB and send Akin to the showers--if we could get one up to speed this late.
Some on the right have a constant need to distance themselves from part of their base and even their party platform — and to do so very publicly and ostentatiously and with an increasing propensity to brook no dissent on matters that have been socially settled in their circles, where they need to make the media like them. It’s either sanctimony or intellectual hubris that drives it, but it’s there.

Fixed that for you.
Todd Akin is a liability and there is a 95% probability that he will say something stupid and hurt again. Any idiot can cast a vote the right way in the Senate, there's nothing that special about this guy that you should risk one percentage point for him.

I am not, nor is the GOP under any obligation to aid a vain retard who decided God called him up and said, "be a tool for Obama Todd I'll cast all the votes needed bud hang in there".....
that type of ego ends up with dead people and the 6'o clock news blaming the GOP and such.

(Y-NOT)Ann Wagner:
http://chesterfield.patch.com/articles/will-ann-wagner-take-akins-spot-on-the-ballot
It's actually the smartest solution, b/c it allows Akin to save face by running for re-election in his Congressional district. So the Party could offer to help him do that, while greatly reducing the damage of his continued candidacy for Senate.
I have seen three different replacement names tossed out on this thread already. If overwhelming consensus on a good replacement, AND getting that replacement up to speed, can be done at this 11th hour, great, but I fear it can't.

The problem with switching him and Wagner is that we don't need him in Congress, PERIOD. He's more like NARAL's caricature of a pro-lifer, rather than an actual pro-lifer. No one will ever want to co-sponsor anything with him, ever. He's 65 years old. Time to sit back, smell the roses, and most importantly shut your pie hole.
Wagner will be just as conservative as him, at least on any issue that has any chance of passing or even coming to a vote. She'll also be a heck of a lot more effective. Same goes for anyone who replaces him on the ballot for Senate (first and foremost, they will have an efficetiveness edge over Akin by virtue of actually getting elected.)

It is because to them the point of politics is emotional and spiritual validation, "LOOK I AM GODLY!" Politics should be about the art of the possible, and the possible was that Akin's damage could have been neutered quickly had he just quit. Instead he got his Jihad on.
If they think they are going to get their way from the aftermath of this they are dumber than Akin.

um "no"....the guy is too stupid to trust with any power.
