More details soon but it looks like "young" people who came here as kids will get work permits, no path to citizenship.
Stand by for details.
Constitution? Never heard of it.
Politically it's brilliant desperate. It will energize his base and force the GOP to talk about being anti-DREAM Act and anti-illegal immigrant. ("Brilliant was my insta-reax but it's not. To be clear, it shows how weak Obama is. He's blowing off white working class voters but he's going to lose them anyway. He needs to rally his base to hold what he has. This will do that. Of course like most base rallying moves, it will rally the other side's too.)
Added:
"Young" is now defined as "Under 30".
The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies. The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.
Congress rejected the full on DREAM Act and this more modest proposal was basically the Rubio plan that was going to be introduced as legislation at some point. But who needs Congress, right? They just get in the way.
My reaction to this?
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
-Stuff Jefferson Actually Wrote, 3rd Edition, Revised.
I'm sure high unemployment swing state voters will be thrilled with millions of new workers now competing against them.
1:15 eastern Rose Garden announcement.
This will also step on Romney's bus tour a bit. It will be interesting to see how Mitt reacts. My guess? He won't very much. He'll stay focused on jobs and the economy.

Under the president’s “deferred action” executive order, students in the U.S. who are already in deportation proceedings or those who qualify for the DREAM Act and have yet to come forward to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, will not be deported and will be allowed to work in the United States.

I don't know how politically brilliant this is, since independents and moderates aren't so keen on the idea of illegals getting any kind of special treatment. It's more like a desperation move. Now that Baraka has solidified the Sex and the City/Vogue editorial vote, he's working to secure the La Raza base.
Not too smart.

This is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic for Obama. Anything he does by Executive Order can be undone by President Romney on his first day in office. If these young illegals are that smart they will figure this out. Getting a work permit now will just make it easier for the next Administration to find them and deport them.
All Romney should say about this is that is is another example of Obama abusing his power and not working with Congress on a solution as a leader should. Part of the reason Obama is doing this is an attempt to tar-baby Romney and get him to counterattack in a way that makes him and Republicans sound racist and mean. They should not take the bait.

It's not a "smart move." It's not a "surprisingly smart move." It's not "politically brilliant." And it's really not a lot new. They stopped deporting people who weren't guilty of criminal offenses (other than being here illegally) months ago. This doesn't change anything.

Marco Rubio and Lynn Graham need to come out and force-ably oppose this. He can yammer on about agreeing with the results, but ends do not justify means. He needs to say this is a brazen run around the Constitution and Congress and that even those who agree with it must stand against a SCFMT to oppose this executive action.
Romney can then point to their response...say the Constitution has parameters we should follow...defer to Congress as the place this should be addressed, not executive fiat...and then reframe to the economy.

And addressing this doesn't have to do with jobs and the economy? It's a pretty easy tie-in.
He hasn't lost much ground among hispanics, so this whole thing is solely about energizing the base. Mitt could easily use this to further erode blacks' support of Obama since the loss of min wage jobs hurts them disproportionately higher.

If I had gotten this story yesterday I would have printed copies to hand out and tell these poor souls not to bother complying with our immigration laws, because the system is set up to reward the lawbreaking and punish the law abiding.

The first.... by executive order..... is the legalization of marijuana. Its high time we called a truce on the War on Drugs.
The second...... by executive order..... is amnesty for illegals. If we just employ more maids, landscapers, gardeners, and janitors.... work Americans WONT do.... we'll stimulate the economy. Think of the spike in sales of just brooms, if you will.

Anyone from a legal immigrant family is keenly aware of the timeconsuming hurdles and legalities that have to be observed. Anytime I've gotten into these discussions with pro-illegals, I remind them how my parents had to comply with the law in order to become resident aliens and eventually naturalized. The compliance included medical screenings and immunizations. We're not too thrilled with the notion that so many can "jump the line" due to political expediency.

My sister's partner, a native Australian, has been trying for years to gain citizenship the right way. Been working and going to school, sent back Down Under at least once (maybe twice), and she's super pissed about this sort of stuff. Those two won't vote Republican ever, but this depresses their vote.
This definitely doesn't go over well with those who have been through the process.

Executive Orders (EO) are not enforceable until Congress approves and adopts the measure into the Code of Federal Regulations. I know this, since my fellow co-workers and I tried to use another EO to protect our jobs last year and we were told by our lawyers and the Department of Labor, that since Congress had not validated the EO and approved steps to implement it, we were SOL and could not use the EO to keep our jobs.

As Mr. Estrada has pointed out, lack of INS enforcement, La Raza getting illegials to vote where there is no ID, etc., these outrages were happening below the radar anyway. All this did is agitate the bases of both parties.
Even the Ronulans now have to admit that there *is* a difference between Romney and Obama. Also, given Mitt's rapid and hard-hitting campaign reactions, I think he's going to line-drive this right down Obama's throat.

How, exactly?
Everything he does in favor of blacks is either narrow or cheap. For example, not prosecuting the NBPP. Like most "social justice", what good does it do the average person? It hurts them for several reasons, but the politically powerful-ish allies of the administration get a benefit.

You do nothing. Because this *is* nothing. This "brilliant political move" is a Hail Mary pass, and not even a very good one. In terms of getting actual illegals to vote it will make no difference whatsoever since the EO can't grant citizenship with voting rights. Yeah, illegals vote illegally, but that's always been going on. The only thing this *might* do is... what? Knock hispanic turnout up a tick? Psh. Who cares? If it's noticed enough to do that it'll knock the working class white vote and rural white vote down a tick too. Of course, in all likelihood, the effect it will have on the white and hispanic votes will be... precisely nothing.

It will get worse, here's how:
At some point, it will be lost. Obama's numbers will regularly show him losing by at least 5 points and even though his minions will be temporarily buoyed by his convention bounce, it won't last. The EV map will be red enough to guarantee a Romney win.
So what happens? Well, he has nothing to lose and he'll be going into legacy mode. He'll do much more of this, not with the intention of winning the election but of rallying the base and getting votes for Congressional candidates.
The rewriting of the Obama years, BTW, will be maddening. He will be socialist in retrospect and that will be spun as a good thing.

Hmmm... a bit torn on your point, r. devil- should our side be scrupulous about observing rules that the other side has collectively taken a runny shite upon?
There's something to be said for observing civilized norms, virtue is its own reward and so forth. But to paraphrase the masthead above, might be time to hoist the black flag and fight as foul as the braindead rabble opposing us. Something about saving a republic comes to mind...
I say have the Ozzie vote, if they're going to vote our way- that's one for us, 800,000 or so for them. Every bit helps, I reckon.

Why will they even make the effort? They don't get drivers licenses, why are we to believe they will go through a painfully application for a visa that only lasts two years?

I think this is just one more step on the road to the destruction of the United States as a unique country. That has been his goal since he was a teenaged stoner experimenting with homosexuality and his legacy of radicalism.

ATTENTION, UNDOCUMENTED MALES
& IMMIGRANT SERVICING GROUPS!
Selective Service does not collect any information which would indicate whether or not you are undocumented. You want to protect yourself for future U.S. citizenship and other government benefits and programs by registering with Selective Service. Do it today.
If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. ItÂ’s the law. According to law, a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. Selective Service will accept late registrations but not after a man has reached age 26. You may be denied benefits or a job if you have not registered.Posted by: Purp (@PurpAv) at June 15, 2012 07:11 AM (eFtYA)

So, with the 1000th law broken by this administration, and the recent abundant evidences that the legal system of this nation is totally FUBAR, are we ready yet to state the obvious?
We are now subject to an illegitimate government. We have to obey the law because of the state's coercive power, but the moral obligation to obey has been torn to tatters. The law is just a tool used to beat your enemies, now. Hopefully the next Republican administration will remember this, and either lead the effort to fix it, or use it ruthlessly to smash the libtards. Either option is OK with me.

Can they vote (legally) with work permits? I think not.
I honestly have mixed feelings regarding those who were brought here illegally as children...especially those who have lived as productive and law-abiding citizens since then. However, an action of this signifigance is way beyond what any one man or woman as President should ever be allowed. This type of decision is custom made for Congress, and Obama knows it. He is desperate, but even more this demonstrates his contempt for the position he was elected to, the American political system and Constitution, and the American people.
He obviously thinks he's being smart here...diverting attention from his record and the economy, where he loses. His polling must make him feel more confident framing more of the campaign on this issue and forcing the Republican's hand. Mitt has to be smart here, but the Republican campaign forced Romney to pidgeon-hole himself on immigration. The Rubio element will be interesting. Republicans need to hit back hard on both the issues of the power grab Obama has just attempted plus the effect on the economy for young Americans that the baby boomers have just been putting through college.

Obama thinks, that with Congress's weak approval numbers, that he can run against a 'Do nothing' Congress.. and he is having to do this kind of thing to 'get stuff done' (as he has stated before)...
But as low as Congress's approval numbers are, the Constitution is still pretty dang popular.... so you point out THIS in your first Ad.... then the Illegal Wars... then Unconsitutional EPA Regs... then the Oil Drilling in the Gulf contempt stuff...
Start the ad with him saying 'support and defend the Consitution'... then the issue... then end with... 'do you trust a man who does not keep his OATH to GOD?"

It takes 20 or 30 years to happen, but eventually properties decline, slums develop, and owners walk away as the tax burden and inability to collect enough rents to cover taxes and maintenance increases.
I walked away from one property in Troy NY's "crack town". The govt assessed it at $90k, but you literally couldn't give it away for $5k and all the tenants caused more damage that you could ever collect in rent. The only sane response was to stop paying the taxes and let them take it back.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) issued this statement
“President Obama’s decision to grant amnesty to potentially millions of illegal immigrants is a breach of faith with the American people. It also blatantly ignores the rule of law that is the foundation of our democracy. This huge policy shift has horrible consequences for unemployed Americans looking for jobs and violates President Obama’s oath to uphold the laws of this land.
“President Obama’s amnesty only benefits illegal immigrants, not Americans, and is a magnet for fraud. Many illegal immigrants will falsely claim they came here as children and the federal government has no way to check whether their claims are true. And once these illegal immigrants are granted deferred action, they can then apply for a work permit, which the Administration routinely grants 90% of the time.
“How can the Administration justify allowing illegal immigrants to work in the U.S. when millions of Americans are unemployed? President Obama and his administration once again have put partisan politics and illegal immigrants ahead of the rule of law and the American people. With this track record, it’s looking more likely that even President Obama may lose his job in this economy when Americans go to the polls this November.”

It's not that. Romney will probably address this, then go back on message...which Obama and Co. would very much like him not to do. First rule of politics....don't let the opposition write your play book.
As someone else pointed out earlier, address the constitutional issues, then fold this into the larger jobs, and economy issues.

How exactly are these new no-longer-illegal workers going to take jobs away from citizens and legal residents? If they already have the jobs then they already have the jobs, all this is doing is formalizing it.
Except now, because these people are legal, their employers will be required to identify them and pay all required employment and payroll taxes and comply with all labor laws (including sexual harassment). Which means that with the stroke of a pen employers don't have as much incentive to hire the no-longer-illegal workers. Which means that many will likely go out and hire still-illegal workers or brand-new-illegal workers who are likely at this moment getting their asses across the border as quickly as they can.

One root of this problem is the No Child Left Behind act, which tested illegal students with the legal students. The teachers unions whined that Hispanic high school aged students, seeing that they wouldn't get to go to college, had no motivation to finish high school. Thus the Hispanic children were dropping out, and ruining the schools NCLB report. One solution is to separate illegal from legal. Another is to give the students motivation to finish college, voila, the Dream Act. If we eliminate NCLB the Department of Education and Affirmative Action, we would all be better off.

This isn't about votes. It's about America. Nothing short of impeachment is the proper response. There's no point left in voting in a system without any law.

Obama on the DREAM Act: "I just have to continue to say this notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true. We are doing everything we can administratively. But the fact of the matter is there are laws on the books that I have to enforce. And I think there's been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the DREAM Act passed and getting comprehensive immigration passed by perpetrating the notion that somehow, by myself, I can go and do these things. It's just not true."

Barky already showed that American politicians can campaign to foreigners ... in foreign nations ... hosted by foreign governments. Sure, it would have been considered illegal as all hell and the most repulsive political act in American history just 5 years ago, but this nation doesn't have the guts or intelligence to defend our own Constitution anymore.
People who think that there will even be anything left by Jan 2013 are betting on the longest of long shots. You don't just recover after having allowed all these unbelievable violations of our Supreme Law. Such a nation without law is not long for this world, no matter "who gets voted in".
Either the law is defended or it dies, not to be resuscitated.
This violation of Constitutional limits on the Executive is as serious as it gets and if let to stand is irreparable.

Vote for Obama? and the Constitution is defunct. Its gone... its dead... and we live in an Oligarchy where the Administration can pass by fiat, any 'regulation' they desire, and ignore the Law at whim...
Or we vote for an unknown... who may or may not roll back the Federal Usurption of Power we have had for generations.

I'm not sure this move was geared at picking up Hispanic votes so much as it was a chop-block on the GOP trying to do so.
To the extent that Romney speaks on this he needs to emphasize that it's not the President's job to make law.

Close enough. I remember I was reading Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire at the time. That book includes information about the Romans' inability to control their borders and keep the Goths out. I was driving to work and the news came on about W trying for the third time to ram this down our throats even after that had been two enormous ourporings from the public saying, "NOOOOOOOOOO!" When I heard W and the RINOs were going back for a third bite of the apple it was like a punch to the stomach. For the first time I thought that if this is Republicanism, I may not be a Republican. After the 2008 loss and seeing the RINOs turn on she-who-may-not-be-named, blaming her for the defeat instead of the top of the ticket, I decided that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I went down and registered as an independent.

Obama's forestalled any possibility of the GOP moving on this issue until after the election, because they really cannot be seen marching to Obama's tune.

As El Rushbo pointed out in the first part of his show today:
Team Obama is in Full Blown Panic Mode.
They're pulling out the heavy led... in June.
And look at how utterly NAKED a political ploy this is.
With five months to go until the election, will even the most a-political, non-voting Americans fail to see this as a desperately pandering move to save his chances at re-election?
And look how early it is. He's throwing a fucking Hail Marry at the beginning of the second quarter!
Yet in substantive policy terms, it's way late.
Hey, Obama: Why now? You could have done this years ago. Oh, you're doing it because Rubio told you to. Yeah, right!
The shameless desperation will be lost on no one.
And that makes it a huge mistake on Team Obama's part. They can kiss what remains of their independent and moderate support goodbye.
They have effectively ceded mainstream American sentiment to the Romney campaign. They can't win it. And they are no longer trying.
They're only hope now is to consolidate (and somehow fire up) the traditional liberal grievance constituencies while ominously suggesting that no damn racists had better try to stop them. They have to hope that White Guilt will suppress Romney's support.
It's a bad bet. But they've concluded (perhaps rightly so) that it's all they've got left.
The safe bet is that in 2012, the average American voter is not going to fear being labeled a racist if he or she dares to cast a secret ballot against Obama.

But before I go, I think the Pubs would be well-served to introduce this Constitutional crisis into US Senate elections.
1. Ask the Ds WTF do they think their constitutional duty is and whether their idea of legislating is going out for drinks and dinner and have the executive branch enact all the laws by fiat.
2. Pub candidates for Senate should make a pledge to actually introduce and pass a budget and ask Dem incumbents why they and their party are unwilling to do it.
These a-hats have a constitutional obligation to be a check on executive power and its about time this becomes an election issue. No answer the Ds can give in response is a good one. Therefore, it would seem to make strategic sense to at ask the damn question.

Even sympathetic sycophants like Dana Milbank had turned on him and were tearing him a new one. - At least Team Obama has stopped that bleeding ...temporarily.

There are multiple interest groups that will not like this action for multiple reasons.
1) Rule of law, illegal actions being rewarded
2) Violation of clearly stated constitutional separations
3) Further pressure on tight employment for legal residents
4) People that have worked hard to get here legally to work
Obama can't be impeached because of political considerations. But it is the last desperate act of a losing candidate. He is proving to the electorate that he is so self centered that he will break any law to divide and gain a partisan advantage. He is just reinforcing to voters why they don't want to vote for him.
He is unelectable. But he is also a loser, and people see that.
Wait until the polls erode more after this dumb antic. The panic will be palpable.

Laws don't matter to this two-bit despot dictator anymore. This is shameful and injustice for people like me who came to this country legally and lived here for six years, went to business school and still have to wait another ten years or who knows when to get a green card.
Obama is the WORST president in hisotry and will lose this election...I have no doubt.
