— Ace Romney mentioned a "kitchen cabinet" in his speech. Kitchen cabinet is a 120 year old reference to a group of close, but not necessarily formal, advisers to the president. I.e., the president has some very important advisers or Wise Men who don't hold any formal position in his administration. The actual cabinet was originally conceived (IIRC) as just that circle of Wise Men; but in fact cabinet positions were given out for other reasons, including political one, so it hasn't served that function. The "Kitchen Cabinet" does. It's the group of advisers the President actually trusts.
Anyway, this age-old term is now racist, because, you know, blacks and kitchens. Wink wink.
I really didn't get this at first. But now I think: "Ah, slaves used to work in the kitchen." They also used to work in offices, so is it racist to say the Office of the Presidency?
I expect so, in time. In time, we'll find out everything is racist. Including the words "and" and "the," as they say.
For a long time I got on True Conservatives for pushing arguments which, to my mind, demanded too much of a persuadable, independent swing voter. Arguments that expected far too large a buy-in to a philosophy they didn't really embrace at all and hence, to the extent they had any effect, would tend to drive them away, not draw them beneath the banner.
Let me just say that this Total and Utter Crap coming from Team Blue is the same type of thing. The hardest-core True Liberals are all eagerly repeating these Squawking Points.
But what of swing voters? Do swing voters agree it's an unconscionable action of racism to say the word "ObamaCare" to a Negro, or to speak of "kitchens" in racially-mixed company?
No. And in fact, I think they'll be rather repelled by the crude race-baiting on display here, combined with elements of outright racial superiority. (The Absolute Moral Authority of people who are minorities, like, say, Elizabeth Warren.)
And many will point out: But this is a base-stoking move, and must be evaluated on that level. True-- but it shouldn't be evaluated only on that level. It may stoke the nutters, but if it also alienates the non-wingnuts, it can wind up being a losing play.
Obama's racial appeal to voters is now (if it wasn't before) outright offensive and itself racist, filled with "dog whistles" for a sub-rosa campaign of Racial Identity and Racial Tribalism over all other considerations. It is a call for Racial Spoils for Racial Client Groups, no matter what the actual equities of such; My Race, Right or Wrong, in other words.
People often say independents are kind of dumb. People like you. People like... oh, me, for example.
But when I call them "dumb" I mean dumb in certain ways. Not necessarily all ways. Yes, they are more amenable to Received Liberal Pap than I'd like. Yes, they don't really seem to follow the news much at all, and so their understanding of politics is really only at the 10,000 foot level, at best.
But I don't think they're dumb people, overall. I think they're just regular people who are kind of dumb about politics for the usual reasons someone would be kind of dumb about a subject -- because they don't care about it, don't read about it, and don't think about it. The same reason I'm kind of dumb about, say, Model Railroading, or Art, or languages, or higher mathematics, or, well, lower mathematics, too.
But on a human level -- they're no dumber than anyone else, as a group. They have the same basic human factory-standard equipment of a bullshit detector, and the same human understanding of what is fair and what is out-of-bounds and what is self-servingly dishonest.
I'm watching the polls more closely than usual, at the moment, to see if this will be the tipping point I've long predicted. I think the formulation "It's racist to run against Barack Obama" is a possible point-tipper. I don't know it's a point-tipper; I just think it's one of those things that could cause a mass of people to finally say Enough.
And I do think they hear of things like this. Political back-and-forths where you need to know a lot of previous backstory and charges and counter-charges.. that stuff, I don't think they hear about, or care about. But simple stuff like this, where you can deliver the Hollywood ten-second elevator pitch -- "Romney gave his standard stump speech at the NAACP, and they booed him, and now they're claiming it was racist to even speak his opinions there" -- this stuff I do think they hear about, and understand, and care about.
Because it's not just about politics. It's about something more tangible, something everyone's interested in -- human-level ideas of fairness and straight-up demagoguery.
People don't like being lied to. Or, let me add some nuance: People love being lied to, so long as they don't understand they're being lied to.
But when it's obvious they're being lied to, in an especially crude and insultingly-obvious manner -- that, they don't like.

What's to stop AG Holder from charging Romney with the felony charge levelled by Stephanie Cutter and keep him incarcerated until it can be thoroughly investigated, what with Romney being a racist and a rich flight risk and all? /sarc
The only thing is the risk it will be perceived to be politicization of the DOJ. Been there done that. At some point that risk will probably be outweighed by President Obama's risk of losing the election. Seriously if the Obama campaign is are this negative and out of control now, how low will they go?

Romney should pull out a dictionary at his next campaign stop and begin reading. "I guess you've heard the Obama campaign saying that the word 'kitchen' is racist. So to clear things up, I'm going to start at the letter A. Let me know how many of these words are racist."

To leave my neighborhood each Wednesday, I have to pass the once a week "farmers market" setup in the parking lot at the arts center, where the hippie farmers and bakers and their buddies with harps and bongo drums set up to sell shit to the wealthy. Yeah, bread at five bucks a loaf and heirloom tomatoes at five bucks a pound. It's Whole Foods for a place with no Whole Foods store within a six-hour drive.
The parking lot will be filled with Toyota Pius cars with blue 2012 bumper stickers. The smug and the stupid.
I wonder if their white guilt is feeling a little iffy now that they can see their god is just a sham, the most racially provocative slimeball on the planet.

What makes them dumb is that they have no core convictions upon which to base an opinion, or a vote - and they wear it as a badge of honor.
"I vote for the policies, not the person." is right up there with "The check is in the mail" and "I'll respect you in the morning" as the top lies of all time.

I think at some point, Romney's surrogates need to make a concentrated push in this area, along the lines of, "Ever notice how whenever you question Obama on his performance, his only response is that it's racist to point out his failures?"
At some point, he'll either have to back off this stupidity or double down on the racism angle, the possibilities of which I find DELICIOUS.

And then the racism stuff.. and then they say Romney intentionally mentions "Obamacare" just to elicit boos from the "black folk"..

"Racism" as a term has been transformed by the hard left and the mainstream media as any thought deviating from leftist orthodoxy.
You can make the point again and again, that you regard Tom Sowell as the leading intellectual in the U.S., or you admired the courage and leadership of Lt. Colonel West long before he became a congressman, or that (here in Texas) you grew up worshipping the Tyler Rose, respected Barbara Jordan for her intelligence and decency even as you disagreed with her politics, or believe Michael Williams is a great guy with great ideas.
Because those folks are not-Jordan the exception- the "right kind" of black persons, they are not accepted by the left as examples of "authentic blackness". Tell me again who the racists are.....

Not to be too disagreeable, but I think you have that backwards. What drives me insane is people who believe it demonstrates their erudition to make that claim- "I vote for the person....". Bullshit, I vote for policy. You can be white, black, Christian, atheist, even Mormon (sarc), and if you have convinced me that you will vote in congress or perform as chief exective to further my political views, you will have my support. Now character issues are important, but I'll support a slovenly drunk who is genuinely conservative over a church-going pillar of the community that wants to expand government and increasingly redistribute my hard earned cash.

The left seems to be grasping. All of those predictions from two years ago that the 2012 Prez election would be 'All Race All The Time' seem to be coming true. The Dem-Lefties are grasping to paint everything as racist in order to help Obama.

>> What Obama can't afford under any circumstances is for black turnout to wane. Hence the obvious and incessant race mongering. Obama needs heavy black turnout. To that end he's doing everything possible to gin up that turnout.
...except going to the NAACP.

Bullshit. Forest and trees, dudes; disengaged is not the same as uninformed. There are other lives out there, and the political hacks should be damned grateful for them, because it isn't the political hacks who make the world go 'round.

The background color of this page is racist. Like the school that recently declared white paper to be racist, we need to start doling out "fines" to any website which uses a white background.

No Ace... it's racist to use the term "Office of the President-Elect"... remember that come this November.

Yeah we are on the same page. I run into these people all the time. They believe their claim of "above the fray" independent status is somehow a mark of intellectual distinction when it is exactly the opposite. They frequently have almost no understanding of issues, the science of economics confuses them, and they drift through political discussions without any core convictions. That is why they proffer the "I vote for the person" argument, which is stupid on it's face. The worst aspect of this status is that they are frequently the folks who vote based on what a "neutral" news source delivers to them, ala Brian Williams.

WHAT DID YOU CALL ME? WHAT? SAY IT AGAIN MUTHERFUKA!
It really is the new "n" word. It tars and demeans the recipient.

Actually, I think the headlines will be a repeat of the "America threw a temper tantrum last night" garbage the left vomited out after Newt and the boys took over Congress. There will be chin-scratching pieces about Americans having no patience and how we expect easy solutions to complex problems. And a lot of clucking about "angry white men."
F'ng hacks.

Charlette Stoker Manning, a chairwoman of Women in NAALCP said, "I believe [Romey's] vested interests are in white Americans. You cannot possibly talk about jobs for black people at the level he's coming from. He's talking about entrepreneurship, savings accounts -- black people can barely find a way to get back and forth from work."
OK. So, saying the word "job" to a black person is racist. And don't you dare call a black person an "entrepreneur."
I mean, do you want to get shot?

1. Use the word 'racist' in everything to describe everything, rendering it impotent. "Well that's a racist dog." "My girlfriend didn't call until 11 last night... racist bitch!" Etc.
2. Redeploy and resignify the word 'racist' to mean something different. I'd suggest something impotent like 'sneaky' or 'dirty' as it is already beginning to bend in those directions. For instance, "You see they that video of the foobtall team faking a distraction when they snapped the ball and then running in for a touchdown? What a hilariously racist move!" or "Don't give me one of those racist looks again."
The key is to overwhelm usage with alternate signification. Language is socially constructed as the left understands, and enough repetitions on its new usage shifts its footprint of meaning. Lacking the scary sounding meaning that the Left has overprogrammed to infer evil white conservatives lurking behind the current meaning, a redeployed term would be strategically devastating while also helping get African Americans past the chip-on-the-shoulder stage. One-hundred years ago, central Europeans were considered dirty filthy non-whites. Poles, Czechs, Romanians, etc. Now they're just Americans. Same with Hispanics and Asians who become Americans. Only African-Americans continue to struggle and we can blame the Democratic machine that keeps them on the plantation, scared to death about fictions of Tea Party folk who are "racist" only so that blacks won't acculturate with the rest of us.

When Rush was talking about that woman's comments yesterday, I was gaping at my radio speakers and sputtering in disbelief. I mean, the left has been implying that black people are stupid and lazy for YEARS. But to actually come out and SAY it -- and it was a black woman speaking! -- and not face ANY flak about it? Holy SHIT they're brazen.
I ended up yelling at the radio, "I'm sure the black entrepreneurs out there appreciate being called idiots, you stupid woman!"

IMAO 'independents' and 'swing voters' are morons.
What's been happening in the US political arena the last thirty years has been very important to everyone and instructive to those paying attention - which the aforementioned assclowns are not.
These mental midgets are too lazy to spend even a small amount of their time noticing what DID happen versus what the pols SAID would happen, or to take the slightest note of what has worked in the world of human events and government and what did not.
They are the 52% that elected a mysterious person of no proven background, no exampled experience of management skill, and no love for "America" to the most powerful position in the world where he instantly worked on destroying "America" in favor of a Marxist-redistributionist has-been nation of leeches (i.e., Greece).

Sort of like how folks feel when they've been scammed.
It's insulting that someone took advantage of them (their greed or stupidity) so they get a little extra indignant.

Look at how the tin-pot dictators in the third-world hell-holes of Africa conduct their re-elections: Their supporters get more and more violent closer to the election.
And didn't the JEF campaign or support just such an individual in the Africa?

There is a magazine "Black Enterprise" (free subscription they send to me, pretty darned good read, actually) dedicated entirely to black "entrepreneurship, savings accounts," etc.
WTF is wrong with her? Is she saying ALL black people are poor?
Oh, right: Anything in service of her king.

A strategy for Romney emerges. Tell the people:
1) He lying about me.
2) He's been lying to YOU. A LOT. About big, important things.
3) Oh, and BTW, he's been calling YOU "racist" all along, too, while being a racist himself (New Black Panthers, "Beer Summit", Treyvon).
I'd add the part about how he looted the treasury of almost a trillion dollars - for his commie supporters - while promising that it would create a job for you, calling it "Stimulus", but that takes too much explanation.

I might suggest that you are somewhat wrong about Independents in general. Maybe YOU don't stay up with politics but I and many of my friends are pretty well-informed. We are Independent Conservatives. Most of us used to be Republicans but we feel the Republican Party moved away from us in many ways, hence, we now have no party with which we can fully relate. We like some of the stands taken by the Libertarians and some by the Tea Party but in reality, we also understand we as a nation, cannot regress to some of their more radical stands. And, until Ron Paul came along, their choice of candidates generally has left a lot to be desired. At least Ron Paul had a small chance and some good ideas and he wasn't afraid to stand up to the generally accepted "establishment". I am quite certain, we will be able to accept Romney as our candidate. Personally, I like Mitt. I think he is a much more honorable man than Obama and he certainly is classier. I don't think you'd ever hear Romney talk down about America in speeches in other countries and I don't believe Ann Romney would ever say "Now I can finally say, I'm proud of America". Race or religion have nothing to do with my choice for president. I would vote for Allen West any day and I think Condi Rice would make an interesting choice for VP. Romney also has business experience, something which Obama and many in his cabinet are lacking. Obama's lack of experience in foreign relations was very evident in his first visit to England and his "apology tours". He embarrassed us all. Well, enough. Just don't sell us short on understanding the issues. "It's the economy, stupid".
"Optimizer" is correct about the administration being racist. You can add the website "Blacks for Obama" to his list.
