Breaking: US evacuates embassy in Central African Republic [Purp]

CAR President appeals to France/USA to help stop rebel advance. UN staff appears to be bugging out too.

President Francois Hollande said Thursday France would not use its troops stationed in the country to interfere in the conflict.

"If we are present, it is not to protect a regime, it is to protect our nationals and our interests, and in no way to intervene in the internal affairs of a country," Hollande said. "Those days are gone."

US Dept of state issues travel warning same day they bug out.

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all travel to the Central African Republic at this time. As a result of the deteriorating security situation, the U.S. Embassy in Bangui suspended its operations on December 28, 2012, and therefore cannot provide protection or routine consular services to U.S. citizens in the Central African Republic.

Obama waiver supporting usage of child soldiers DOES NOT apply to CAR.

So where is this joint anyway?

12 Here's a chilling bit of info regarding a former dictator: Mr. Bokassa, with the support of the French government, became a monstrous caricature of the brutal, post-colonial African dictator. In 1977 he crowned himself emperor of his tiny nation, sitting upon a golden throne shaped like an eagle and his head topped by a diamond-encrusted crown, in an elaborate ceremony costing $22 million. His cruelty knew no bounds — he fed people to crocodiles for sport, and torture was a common tactic of his police and army. Rumors abounded that he was a cannibal who enjoyed eating the flesh of small children.

13 The thing about CAR is that the people running the joint will take a bribe but they won't stay bought.
It's not a country, it's a space between the countries it borders with a name. The people in control run it like a pirate colony.

30 Huge mineral wealth in CAR.  It matters.

Posted by: @PurpAv at December 27, 2012 10:39 PM (hPavS)

31 The point made in the doc is that the French still treat CAR as a colony. They like to keep it the way it is, totally FUBAR.
If the locals get uppity and try to make it a decent place, the French pay former French Foreign Legion mercs to start blowing shit up.
So basically, the goons in control pissed off the French and now the French are getting shooty. Expect a coup shortly and a new set of goons to be placed in control.

Posted by: CozMark at December 27, 2012 10:41 PM (AogGt)

32 I've been in this part of the world and I guarantee on my sisters cats life it is a result of our leading from behind in Libya. Northeastern CAR is home to some significant refugee camps for those escaping Darfur, South Sudan and the Nuba Mountains genocide. The southern border is a haven for illegal mineral, timber and human trafficking coming out of the Congo. All of which want an upgrade in armaments and the post qaddafi shitshow has replaced thr Bout network as the gun market of choice. See Mali. If you are going to run arms into sub Saharan Africa and ship conflict metals, etc. out you want to control the CAR.

41 29 That's correct and for at least a decade it has been the transshipment point of choice for a bucketload of smuggled diamonds, rare earths, timber, etc out of the Congo. I'm not as up to speed as I used to be but they would replace the certificates of origin from the DRC to the CAR and be able to ship it anywhere in the world. If anyone wants to know why they should care if you have anything with rare earths or African diamonds its a high likelihood it originated or passed through the CAR. Good luck building electric car batteries without it Barry.

61 How the fuck do these people even eat!

Tropical climate.  The jungle/forest is full of food for the picking in the tropics.

That's how rural Haitians survive on $1/day (or less).  Traditional western measures of "poverty" don't really reflect actual need in the rural tropics.

67 >>Tropical climate. The jungle/forest is full of food for the picking in the tropics.<< Okay, sure. I guess that I could buy that for individuals. It would be like Rousseau and probably just as nasty but that still doesn't explain how mining can take place. Even with slavery, it just seems like there must be some sort of energy feeding into the system to produce such sustainable levels of chaos.

Of course I am am older, and live in Texas when in stateside, so I guess one could say, I'm a bit rough around the edges. Hey anybody got a link for gun toting foreigners wanting work in CAR? I could use a change.

OR, should I polish up my skills with my Glock and learn to love my long rifle?

116 There are a LOT of Chinese in Africa,  and the media pretty much ignores it.  My husband's mine caught a bunch on the far side of their large property illegally mining with modern equipment, bold as brass.

Hubbie suggested confiscating the equipment and locking it behind fencing,  but the mine people wouldn't do it because they were scared of them.

If there are rare earth mines in the CAR,  I would bet cash money that the Chinese are involved int his somehow,  since one of their strategic goals is to control as much of the market as possible.

but, I want THEM to feel the pain.....I will be HAPPY to grind the PAIN into their collective latte sippin prius driving POS faces EVERY FUCKING DAY that the PAIN is available....in my own pain, I will work to DOUBLE THEIR PAIN and when they become numb....I will find a way to rip open their collective flesh and instill an even HIGHER level of pain until they whimper and scream out for mercy....then they will know how bad they fucked up....maybe THEN they will know the damage they have done.

This is my wish........

118 OMG, sorry for the long post. My life is in the crapper. I am posting from Commie China. Tomorrow I have to "wash the peoples car". I don't think I am the person to be asking relationship advice. Well let me give some advice anyway. I ain't exactly Annie Landers. 1st of all Wives..very important for me anyway. If I dont have a wife, I am flitting off everywhere doing the craziest of stuff. A wife to me is a moral anchor, that keeps me rooted and tied to planet earth. Now if its over, just leave..don't prolong the pain. Don't be kind, and give up everything. I made that mistake with the first 2. Fight for your stuff. But, if there is a spark, if you truly love that gal, then work for it. I had a preacher man tell me something one time that stuck with me. He mentioned compromise. He said everyone wants to walk halfway up to the other person. But her halfway and your halfway may not be the same. If each person isn't willing to walk all the way up to the other, then it will never work. I got a good wife this time (she is Chinese). Third tme is the charm. She said something the other day that bought a TEAR to my old eye. She said "This is the first time in my life I feel freedom. Always the government told me do this, do that, or the boss. It was stressful. You married me and bought me to the US to our little ranch. Every day I wake up and do my want. I love you. You freed me" As for drinking, I come from a long line of drinkers. Whenever I drink that hard stuff, I get mad dog crazy. I really should not drink at all, having an ill temper. But I drink beer. My wife can't believe how much beer I drink. Beer has hops in it. Its like THC (in weed, and I don't do illegal drugs), but I am a former chemist. I believe the active ingredient is lupulene, structurally similar to THC in some respects. Its a calm and mellow buzz. I suggest beer! Hey anyone ever read that paper when in alcoholic's that chemical (THP) tetra hydro papavoline rearranges itself into a morphine like structure? As for glocks..I hate em. GD tactical tupperware plastic fricking pistols! I'm a steel pistol guy. Now those Glocks are fine and accurate guns. But I have firearms passed down from the 1800's thru the family that still shoot great. I don't think those Glocks will stand the test of time. Time is an M'fer and takes everything and everyone down. But the steel be real! I likey the rifles. Best deal on now is the Chinese SKS. Real cheap, but the stock needs work. The 2 most accurate rifles I have are the Finn Mosin, and the Persian Mauser. They are 1 - 1.5 MOA rifles. I hope I anwered your questions. If not please forgive me, I'm an old guy trying to make my way thru the world. It has been a pleasure talking with ya Richard.

119 I'm sure Hillary and the JEF are fast asleep and did not wake up for a call. Doesn't anyone realize that they just don't care and are not qualified to perform their respective duties? We have four + more years of this shit! God help the US because we certainly need it.

My Dear Judge,

I am stilled and at this moment in a great struggle to find the words to respond in kind to your Royal response to my simple post.

 Dear Sir,

I have been here on this site in due to the Gracious Nature of the Master ACE who has seen fit to allow my postings and who has given me wide breth though I have tempted his nature to the point of banning. He, in his goodness has allowed me to stay. I am so very thankful for your insite to my simple post and I thank you for the learned observations and instructions which I will take to heart.

I do this in the "Old School" as respect to you.....

Happy New Year Judge.....

121 Thanks Richard, I'm just a simple country boy. Not Royal in anyway (except maybe a royal Ahole from time to time). But thanks for your kind comments. My last advice is please make an effort to tone it down a bit. I know its arduous. You feel deeply about what you post. I used to have the same conundrum. The people on this board are very astute and great people (except for the socks). I feel special just to be here at this time. God Bless and Happy New Year!

131 My first thought on seeing this post this morning was "Isn't CAR below Libya and Mali?" And, lo and behold, it's south of Libya, Mali, Egypt, and west/southwest of Sudan, all of which are flashpoints on the continent for "religion of peace" problems. I'm less familiar with the situation in Chad, but I'd think it is probably the same there too. Why does Jimmy Carter 2.0 hate black people?

'The Ambassador'. Film made a little while back about diamonds and corruption in the CAR, by a dutch filmmaker posing as a diamond smuggler.

Given that this is the CAR we're talking about, I'm not sure who's side we should even be on. Who are the rebels are why are they the bad guys for rebelling against that violent, corrupt, child-enslaving shithole?

138 In regards to the child-soldier thing: it seems that the waiver was issued to allow the US to sell arms to nations that utilize child soldiers, whereas standing policy and/or law was that we don't/can't do that kind of stuff. Ahh, Waivers. What don't they do?

143 So the US Embassy in a Central African country shuts down, and the media fails to care. Why does the media hate black people? [For the record, all snark aside, the way the media ignores all the awful effects of the current administration on US minorities and non-white ethnicities abroad is truly atrocious, and it would be justly called racist under any other circumstances. But US minorities by definition cannot be racist...so, sorry people-of-the-world. You get sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.]
