— JohnE. There was a bit of a scare last night as reports broke that Mitt Romney's supposed huge cash advantage had not only disappeared, but Obama had turned the tables on him completely.
After dominating the fundraising race for much of the summer, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney started the fall campaign sprint with a little more than $50 million available to spend and a large loan to repay, campaign-finance reports filed Thursday show.Romney raised nearly $67 million in August and spent nearly as much, according to his filings with the Federal Election commission.
President Obama spent even more, burning through nearly all of the $84.8 million he raised in August, but he ended the month with nearly $89 million in cash reserves. Overall, Obama and the Democratic Party raised about $114 million in August, edging past the $111.6 million haul by Romney and the Republican Party.
Before this developed into a full blown freak-out, Reince dropped the hammer.
NEWSFLASH - Cash On HandRNC - 76.5 millDNC - 7.1 mill
— Reince Priebus (@Reince) September 21, 2012
More August Facts
— Reince Priebus (@Reince) September 21, 2012NC spent 21.9M and RNC spent 47.8M; RNC raised 35.6M and DNC raised 13.6M; Final Cash on Hand RNC 76.5M - DNC 7.1M.
This breaks down to:
DNC + Obama = $95.9 Million cash on hand.
RNC + Romney = $127 Million cash on hand.
Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to toss Romney some coin for the homestretch.

"Reports broke"--ha! More like broken reporters!
You have to love the fact too, that Obama is showing what a greedy little turd he is and not sharing any of his stash with his fellow Dems who are in tough House and Senate races. So much for "taking care of the least of these" or for Obama even "caring" (since we hear so much about how empathetic Obama is). Like Romney who killed Joe Septic's wife, Obama "is not concerned".

It would be interesting to know how those expenditures broke down. I'm worried that Emperor Romney, Lord Priebus, their SuperPAC Deathstar, and their loyal Imperial stormtroopers (us) are concentrating too much on the airwaves and not enough on the ground game.
To carry through with Star Wars analogy, I think we're getting caught up in Star Destroyers and Tie Fighters rather than logisitics. While advertising is important for getting out your message the ground game is equally important.

None of it made sense, she said. That's not until her uncle finally told her what no one else had: She had unknowingly married the father she never knew."

The really good news? Independents have a really unfavorable rating for Barack Obama right now, and they are the largest amongst the undecided with the Republicans in a close second. The president really has a ceiling of 46-48% and the rest will go to Romney. With Romney cleaning up Independents, there is almost no possibility of Obama winning the general with only Democrats to support him...

In Ames, Iowa, I see
no Obama signs
few Romney signs
many more King (Congress, R) signs
quite a bit of Vilsack (Congress, D-Nepotism) signs. At least, it seems so, they're bright red.
I do see plenty of Obama bumper stickers, though.
Ames is fairly conservative for a college town but it's still a college town with grant leeches and people who think education comes from the government (maybe it does for them, mathematicians live off of tuition).
Also, it is Vilsack's base of support for the district. If she doesn't get huge numbers in Ames, she'll lose easily.

have to ask yourself why many of these polling outfits keep coming out with national polls with party ID at Dem +8 or more. They cannot believe that will be the actual turnout. Either they are pulling lousy samples, or they just are selling a theme.
Posted by: tofer732 at September 21, 2012 08:36 AM (m5Iwq)
They are using somewhat good samples, unlike the other two polls that came out today. Reason-Rupe is really egregious with its +8% D oversample and +8% Latino oversample. I am not even going to look at the National journal crapola. Probably the same D +8 oversample or even better, not releasing the internals.
On Rasmussen, Michael Barone said the other day that Rasmussen is using a D+2% sample in his national polling if anyone didn't see that. He is not using his own numbers on party identification that has Republicans at +4% over Democrats. Interesting.

On Rasmussen, Michael Barone said the other day that Rasmussen is using a D+2% sample in his national polling if anyone didn't see that. He is not using his own numbers on party identification that has Republicans at +4% over Democrats. Interesting.
----------
Yes, I did see this, which is why I've cautioned people about re-weightin polls using his party breakdown. Clearly, if he himself isn't using it in his own polls, there must be a reason.

Kirsten Powers looking very hot on FNC now.
I say that feeling quite secure in my own sexuality.

THIS.
If a teacher walks into a disruptive classroom where all the kids but one is misbehaving and she gives them all candy, what do they learn? Misbehave and still get candy! Just give candy to the one good kid in the room and the thugs learn that bad behavior means "no candy". If they misbehave again - spanking via by cruise missile.

There hasn't been enough Barone (or Sununu) in this pre-election coverage.

One of the questions in a poll released the other day (I think it was Pew) asked who you voted for in 2008 - the answer was +15 for Obama. You think they would have tweaked the sample just based on that answer alone.

She's like one of those old lady drunks at the cocktail party who is pathetically trying to stay hip. Like Maureen Dowd.

She's already said she's leaning Romney. And I'm pretty sure that was before the middle east mess started so, she's probably firmly Romney.

Obama did not need to debate Romney - he could have refused. It has happened in past elections. Romney knows that it would be better to debate Obama even with biased MSMers than no debate at all. Do you think Obama would allow someone like Levin, Hewitt, or Medved moderate a debate?? No way - he is probably crapping his pants as it is knowing that he is going to have to debate Romney. All Mitt needs to do is take control of the debate - and he has done that before. Remember, there was only one candidate in the primaries, when going head to head against Newt was able to slap Newt down. Also, Romney just went through 20 debates - how may has Obama been in lately.

I believe Rasmussen does a party identification sample once a month. I bet if he keeps seeing a Republican +4, he will adjust his daily tracking poll sample accordingly. If we get a 2004 turnout model (which I think was a tie), this election will be a Romney landslide.

Hell, I live in Philly proper and I hardly see any Obama 2012 stickers. Still see a few 2008 stickers and even a Gore/Lieberman sticker on an abandoned car along my commute. There is a vendor outside of my office that sells Obama shirts and caps and he's been looking kind of glum lately.
That reminds me, I'll have to go out at lunch to hear what the Black Israelites have to say about the state of the world, and how Black Jesus is gonna punish all of us gay crackas.

He is leading because they have the electorate in their poll at 56% female. In 2008, it was 54% female. Obama is getting nearly 85% democrats in a state where they have Democrats at 5% more than republicans. In 2008 they were nearly 10% more Democrats than Republicans and in 2004 they were nearly equal. I am thinking this will be more like 2004 than 2008 so their numbers are off. Independents are also almost all the undecideds in the North Carolina poll and they voted in both elections nearly 60-40 Republicans. So expect on election day to have North Carolina go for Romney by nearly 10 pts.

For a while now she's been having a difficult time taking the pro-Obama stance on the panels and often looks like she's ready to gag. It was only a matter of time.
