CAC's Projection for the U.S. Senate (March 2012 edition)
— CAC

Courtesy of JohnE, as always.
Updated to reflect recent polling (and some unpublished observations) giving the Republicans the edge in North Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Florida, Montana, and Missouri; and Angus King the edge in Maine.

Republicans have a wide lead in North Dakota and Nebraska, a moderate lead in Florida and Wisconsin, and narrow but promising leads in Montana and Missouri, flipping the Senate. Ohio, New Mexico, and Hawaii could get interesting as time passes. Two of these three are open seats with competitive Democratic primaries, and Sherrod Brown's record in the Buckeye state might catch up to him (he currently enjoys double-digit leads over the Republican).

Be prepared for embiggened screen, it is a big map after the jump.
2012 Senate Projection

Told ya it was big.

Update: Rasmussen just released its Missouri Senate poll, confirming the already bad news for Senator McCaskill. She trails every Republican in the race.

29 I'm not sure that Nevada ought to be considered "likely Republican." The Ron Paul crowd took control of the Clark County GOP (where Las Vegas and 70%of the state's population is), and are poised to take control at the state level. They will do everything they can to attack incumbant Republlicans who don't tow the Ron Paul line, and have already declared war on one of Nevada's two GOP Congressmen -- Rep. Joe Heck. This will not end well...

35 >>>I'm hopingwe see some more plus signs by November.

The places we might see positive movement are New Mexico -- I actually expect this one to be very competitive -- Virginia and maybe (MAYBE) Ohio.  Probably in that order.

The one where there's a good chance of negative movement is Missouri.  Lotta midgets running for the GOP nomination, and the most likely winner (Sarah Steelman) has the "Tea Party Incompetent" stink on her by a fair amount.  I'm not that optimistic about the race, but I think Obama's unpopularity in the state may carry her over.

119 Delaware might not be a total Democratic lock for Senate (or the House for that matter).  I was part of the Smyrna St. Patty's Day with the Kent County Young Republicans last weekend (yeah, it was held on 3/11; I have no idea why).  In addition to the Kent County YR float, we had a fairly decent representation for Kevin Wade, the guy running against Tom Carper this year (though not Wade himself), as well as Tom Kovach, who's running against John Carney for Mike Castle's old seat.  The enthusiasm from the crowd was really pretty strong, which was surprising since historically, Smyrna has one of the higher levels of Democratic voter registration compared with the rest of the state.

Now, I'm only familiar with what's going on in Kent County, and there are still the twin hurdles of navy blue New Castle County and the on-going influx of DC/Philly/New Jersey transplants moving here and voting Dem, so I'm not getting my hopes up, but if Smyrna's any indication, the tide may slowly be turning in a state that's currently bluer than Massachusetts.

The fact that both Wade and Kovach also speak about conservative ideas and policies as though they actually know what they're talking about is refreshing, especially after the years of middling weak sauce Castle moderation, and the fact that the state-level party is endorsing and promoting them can only be a positive.

Also, O'Donnell isn't running, which is also helpful.

When this occurs, I want to see Reid, Pelosi and the tyrant to be put on trial for treason.  Its the least we can do

182 Allen has a tough campaign to manage. He has to stay out of tea party land so as not to get NOVA into a save our jobs frenzy, and rely on the anti-obama wave to turn out the 'pub hordes. Posted by: Jimbo at March 15, 2012 05:46 PM (O3R/2)

225 From Huffpooo: On Sunday, 20 delegates are at stake in Puerto Rico's GOP primary, more than those that were up for grabs in the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary in January. Puerto Rico's delegates will be split among candidates unless someone wins 50 percent of the vote, which is unlikely in a multi-candidate field. The Caribbean island of 3.7 million people is part of the United States. Even though Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, they pay no federal taxes and cannot vote in presidential elections. Its political parties are largely built around disagreements over its political status. The fight over whether it should push for statehood or independence has been waged since 1964, and it's likely to shape the GOP primary race on the island. The economy too is certain to be an issue given Puerto Rico's sky-high 15.1 percent unemployment rate

229 229 While PR may influence the GOP nomination, they have no influence in the General Election in Nov. ------ The influence in the general is only from Puerto Ricans living on the mainland, of which there are quite a few in the Northeast, at least there were back in the day when I was living there. But I think it's a stupid idea to pick this Fortuno guy. I don't think it helps with "Hispanics" in general, his status is a little wonky (as I said, he's somehow in two political parties), and it looks like PR needs him where he is. He is bringing their budget into line.

Going to carry WA, NC, MT, NH. WV may actually be a pick-up, the gov race last year would have gone Red had the Republican had 4 more weeks to campaign. Even Democratic pollsters were saying so.

We will end up with 33-34 R governors by year's end at the rate things are progressing.

"Sad to see Kaine in front of George Allen in Virginia."

Once gas prices reach over $4.00, Kaine will go down in polls. Even in 2006 with the backlash against repubs, former republican-turned-democrat Jim Webb only won by about 7-8K votes against Allen, that's it. And that was due to the Macca mess by Allen. If Santorum is the nominee, Allen will lose, with Romney, there might be a chance for Allen to win. But it was very close in 2006, even with all the anti-repub sentiment, not a landslide.

356 Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) to retire
http://tinyurl.com/8a2ylsc

Longtime New York Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman will retire at the end of the 112th Congress, he announced tonight.

Ackerman, serving his 14th full term, represents portions of Queens and Long Island. But, in a redistricting map likely to become law, his district was essentially dismantled and his home was drawn into the same district as Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

When I was helping her find a place to rent for the upcoming year she tentatively asked about the politics. (I think she assumes hubby and I are liberal leaning based on our background in academe and the east coast.) Anyway, I told her that Utah would go for Mitt. She felt relieved to hear that. So this is the type of person we are told would vote for Mitt (possibly) but I am sure she would never do it, because she is really pro-abortion. She'd never accept the GOP platform imho. That's why I think it's a fool's errand chasing after these supposed moderate voters.

I'm impressed, though honestly the worst they'll do is kill you with kindness, funeral potatoes, or jello salad. Were you invited by a neighbor, or did you get a flyer left on your door and decided what the hey? And my registering as an independent was a misguided but well meaning attempt to rebel against the GOP after they chose Huntsman over Olene Walker, who I loved. Shot my own self in the foot by doing that, as you really have no ability to influence anything as an indie here, but ah well, lesson learned. But my views don't mesh 100% with either party anyway, so I feel contentedly at home in my current political status.

Actually back then, there weren't as many common chassis and drive trains as there are now. Each division actually had its own engines and drive trains

Available V-8's by division in 1963;

Buick - 215, 364, 401, 425
Cadillac - 390
Chevy - 283, 327, 409, 427
Oldsmobile - 215, 394
Pontiac - 326, 389

Were you invited by a neighbor, or did you get a flyer left on your door and decided what the hey? --- I made an effort to participate in Relief Society functions in my old ward (in Springville) and they made an effort to include. I made a good friend in that ward and she sees that I get invited to things, even though I've moved to another town. I've even been to the LDS cannery in Lindon to can peaches! The women here are great. I really admire them.

376 Yay, I was afraid you'd moved on to the new thread and hadn't checked back! Glad that it sounds like you've made some good friends here. The LDS canneries/bishop's storehouses are great. Have you had potato pearls? Probably one of the best dry pack foods I've ever eaten, and you just add water! The church almost discontinued them since they don't last as long as other food storage items, but the members rebelled, lol, thank heavens. And I'm a bit jealous you got to meet Gov Walker!

Posted by: LizLem at March 15, 2012 06:54 PM (GGqRk)

377 @393 Nope, haven't tried the potatoes. I just did a shift at the cannery canning peaches. I almost got motion sickness from the conveyor belts! We aren't doing the food storage thing (in fact, I gave our shelf reliance system to my friend -- I tried to figure out how to turn it into a wine rack LOL but couldn't come up with a way to do it), but we did get a chest freezer and vacu-sealer to take advantage of Costco's great meat department. One advantage of not working is that I can put some time into participating in some of the activities. My new ward is not as friendly. It's a different demographic and mostly retirees or semi-retirees and empty-nesters so that may be part of it.
