California is Living Obama's 2nd Term Right Now. [ArthurK]
— Open Blogger

Here's a essay by a former San Diego mayor on what the rest of the country has to look forward to if the worst happens this November. As a California native and resident I'll vouch that everthing he says here is true (although the wildfire thing is poorly phrased).

Some high points follow - but Read The Whole Thing.

California is a one-party state dominated by a virulent Democratic Left enabled by a complicit media where every agency of local, county, and state government is run by and for the public employee unions. The unemployment rate is 12%.

... the governor proclaimed the rich must pay their fair share

Income of more than $1 million pays the "millionaires' and billionaires'" surcharge tax rate of 10.3%. Brown's proposal would add 2% for income over $250,000. A million-dollar income would then be taxed at 12.3%. ... Brown also proposed a one-half-cent sales tax increase, which would bring sales taxes (which vary by county) to 7.75% to 10%.

...

we don't want to turn down the Obama bullet-train bucks Florida and other states rejected because the operating costs would bankrupt them. Can't happen here - we're already insolvent.

Illegals get benefits from various generous welfare programs, free medical care, free schools for their kids, including meals, and of course, instate tuition rates and scholarships too. Governor Perry, California has a heart. Nothing's too good for our guests.

... more and more of California's public land is off-limits to recreation by the people who paid for that land. Unless you're illegal. Then you can clear the land, set up marijuana plantations at will, bring in fertilizers that legal farmers can no longer use, exploit illegal farm workers who live in hovels with no running water or sanitation, and protect your investment with armed illegals carrying guns no California citizen is allowed to own.

...After driving out the old industrial base (auto and airplane assembly, for example), air and water regulators and tax policies are now driving out the high-tech, biotech and even Internet-based companies that were supposed to be California's future.

No job is too small to escape the regulators. The state has even banned weekend amateur gold miners from the historic gold mining streams in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Maybe once we get rid of that last republican cowering in the corner there we'll start to figure out maybe he wasn't the problem after all.

To which the correct response is, as always, "define fair".  And if he is so foolhardy as to actually suggest a number, then the answer to that is "and just how did you arrive at that number"?

(Hint: The answer is he pulled it out of his backside)

14 One industry that is left there is the satellite factories.  Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and Loral all still have their factories in the state.  Unfortunately for them, it is prohibitively expensive to move them someplace sensible like Texas.

Also, their employees are reliably liberal.  Makes me nuts.

I remember when we used to hear the same things about blacks.  "We have to speak to their issues."  By which was meant, we have to surrender the plain English of the Constitution and the most fundamental precepts of equality before the law and go along with quotas.

Funny thing is that it wouldn't have mattered.  Pandering and giving away free stuff beats simple pandering.  And Dems will always give away more free stuff than we will.

What law was cast into stone that the Republican party must exist, or the Democrat party for that matter

The Dems are a collection of special interest rent seekers, many who do not like each other very much.

Politics like nature abhors a vacuum, and a new party would spring up to meet the demand

The Dems need the Republican party more than voters do, because they need a common enemy. For those Dems wishing for the death of the GOP, be careful what you wish for

You can add the movie industry to that. The other major industry that will close up shop is agriculture, once the greens dry up the central valley its done for. Who does this hurt the most...immigrants. I live in a red district, well used to, its been redrawn, in California the democrats made sure there are no more pockets of conservatives. In their mind the democratic majority should be equal in every district, we have a liberal moving into our district just to run for it. btw the dirty little secret of internet companies is that they employ very few people, they are very lean which means they can move easily and don't improve the govt. balance sheets that much.

Can't leave because attempting a career change, at this time and age, could be disastrous for my family. Watching the state devolve is agonizing, though, as documented here by Hedgecock and by Victor Hansen. They do not exagerate in the slightest about what is happening here.

I was lucky enough to have been here during part of California's golden age in the 60's. It was sweet.

Most of the nastiness coming out of California now moved *IN* 20, 30, or 40 years ago. California wasn't always like this. Besides, a lot of the people fleeing are the productive ones, you *want* them to come. Places like Detroit show that the *last* people to leave are the hucksters and the sponges.

38 There were complaints during the statewide fires in 2007 that emergency workers had not gone far enough into the canyons to make sure that the illegal camps were evacuated. Besides not knowing where they camp and the fact that the canyons were funnels of fire, some group actually made complaints about that.

39 Excellent post over at NRO: Winning By Jay Nordlinger Have you noticed that, when Romney wins, he can’t quite win? I mean, his victories are spun as losses, or not-good-enough wins. He wins New Hampshire, and everyone says, “Own backyard. Neighboring state. Spent a lot.” He wins Florida, and they say, “Spent a lot. Was mean to Newt.” Wins Nevada, and they say, “Lotsa Mormons.” Wins Michigan, and they say, “Home state, whaddya want? Should’ve won by more.” Wins Arizona, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, they say, “No big deal. Doesn’t really count.” Wins Ohio, and they say, “Squeaker!” A reader of ours writes, “When Newt won South Carolina, why did no one say it was ‘in his own backyard’? When Rick was campaigning in Ohio, why did no one point out it was a ‘neighboring state’ of Pennsylvania? Why is Romney’s wipeout win in Massachusetts less impressive than Newt’s plurality win in Georgia?” Etc.

42 The way I read it they discovered these "plantations" of illegals because of at least one of them started a campfire that turned into a wildfire, otherwise most of the public wouldn't even know that these large encampments of illegals existed.

Granted, it's somewhat poorly phrased but that's what I got out of it.  The real problem with wildfires is California has pretty much regulated the timber industry out of existence - as a result there is no one to clear out the forests of old growth, the stuff builds up on the floor and you've got kindling galore.

As a result, any little spark - just looking at it crosseyed, and before you know it you've got a serious wildfire on your hands.

They even had Maria Shriver doing commercials on how to get your free shit from the gubermint. Gorgeous beautiful state with perfect weather.. but no way in hell would I ever go back.

73 The 9th Circus Coart has gone "both ways" on gun cases, but they seem to be willing to go Pro-2nd Amendment if the case is well-brought - like Nordyke. Calguns Foundation has won a number of cases in the state. CA is less anti-gun than it was 20 years ago, though there are some *catastrophically* bad laws here, and corrupt agencies are almost a worse problem. Most of the state *geographically* is shall-issue for CCW. The two big population centers are literally defying court orders on the subject. Also, LA isn't going to fall into the sea. The fault movement isn't West or down, it's North. Few score million years, all that shit will be Canada's problem.

76 Updates?  Yup.. a couple.  Most of the day was pretty quiet, I had lunch off site with my supervisor today - she has a friend who has a friend in HR and she was let in on some of the more interesting doings as a result.

Now this is all coming third hand of course and I can't confirm any of it, but apparently the scuttlebutt from the HR department is as follows.  The lady that I talked to yesterday, the one the Managing Director told me to work with directly, well it turns out she's the one who normally handles employee conflicts and complaints.  She should have been the one I dealt with from the get go, but according to this unnamed source in HR the Director had heard about the incident in the lunch room before che-boy's supervisor complained, and told the lady I'm dealing with now that she would handle it.

I guess that didn't sit all that well with the lady who's job it was to take care of this sort of thing, and when she found out how the Director had handled it she got very upset.  I don't know this lady myself, just met her yesterday, but from what my supervisor heard she is very much by the book and had it gone through her things probably would have been handled very, very differently.

So, a few other interesting items to note.  No one in HR has a clue who sent the email.  Much like our "generic" accounts in my department they can only be accessed from in house, they can't be accessed from outside via webmail.  The email was sent out after the department was closed, so the mystery deepens there.

The source in HR said that the Director and 3 of the "higher ups" in the HR department had a conference call with the Managing Director pretty much as soon as they walked in the door.  In fact if the source is correct the Director walked in on the call 15 minutes late because she was late for work that morning, so 3 of her upper management on the HR team were already on the phone with the Managing Director when she finally showed up.

I guess the Managing Director started ripping her a new one, not only for being late but of course about how my "case" was handled.  Supposedly the HR Director tried to defend herself by claiming that I was belligerent, argumentative, and that I had even screamed at her several times during our meeting.

The Managing Director wasn't buying it though, apparently she'd had plenty of time on the phone with the other HR ladies who had already confirmed that none of them had heard me raise my voice throughout the entire meeting.

So according to my source at least, the HR Director was fired on the spot.  I guess they keeping it quiet for now at least until the Managing Director can get back into town and deal with it personally.

It was all quiet on the Western Front other than that though.  I was glad to get out of there for lunch - it's just weird being in the cafeteria and having it be that damn quiet, especially since it isn't that quiet until I walk in.

As for Che-boy and the che-ettes, I did see them today but they are avoiding me like the plague, as are pretty much all the folks in there little clique.

So not a whole ton to report today, but it was interesting to say the least.

Mayor Tony and his SEIU buddies are putting major squeezes on the Port of Los Angeles, and Sacramento is putting such heavy EPA regulations on trucks on top of the huge operating costs that many are saying they'll go out of business or leave the state. Other carriers may turn down CA hauls, They do now when the Central Valley isn't in harvest season

Once the shippers figure they'll save tons of money skipping CA and going on to the Gulf, be ready to see lots of job openings in Gulfport. Well, relative to other places if the SCOAMF stays in the WH

I bailed at the young age of 34...not so many years ago, and as much as I miss the state's amazing natural beauty, I'll not go back, not even to visit, if I can avoid it. Too many good memories will be dashed on the rocks of reality, and the good memories of my childhood I still have left, I prefer to keep unsullied. Well...those that I can. It's recently come to my attention that if I attempt to throw a Nerf Frisby on certain Socal beaches, I can face a fine of up to 1000 dollars.

Sigh.

88 So, I had a "fun" facebook encounter with a liberal (now former) friend and his gaggle of idiots.

Jackass posted something about the whole birth control fiasco.  To which replied that no-one should be forced to pay for anyone else's birth control.

Well, that shit got out of hand in a hurry.  I tried my best to keep things on the topic and point of "it's not actually about birth control", and didn't call anyone any names.  I got called ignorant once.

Then the guy who *originally* posted it (mind, this is several hours later, and about 30 posts in) comes in and A) apologizes *for me* and B) accuses me of being disrepectful and mean C) demands that I delete all my posts in the thread or, and I quote, "you'll be deleted" (I figure he meant he'd delete my posts himself, but lol).

to which I replied "I *have* been being respectful, I haven't once called any one of your friends ignorant, like your friend did to me.  I won't back down on anything I said, and I don't *need* friends that cannot take honest criticism of their positions.

I then defriended the douche. Not sure if I should have done that bit, or if I could have had a  better response.  But that's my little bit of not bowing to the libs for the day/week (probably week).

Just wanted to get that off my chest a bit, because I'm still pretty damned annoyed.

Yep, it's not easy, but we're leaving CA for AZ this summer. CA does hate us, and what stand for (or rather they love us, and what we stand for to them, which is money they can extract from us to pay for bullshit social spending). We are interviewing realtors, and my wife is literally setting up the last interview as I type here.

It's stressful as hell to be out of sync with everyone else, and know that in every instance they'll be trying to figure out a way to stick it up your ass. It's like SoS's problem (btw, well done, SoS!), but on a low-level chronic scale (instead of his acute flare-up). CA views productive, taxpaying citizens as drayhorses, from whom Democrat politicians can extract cash to give sweetheart contracts to the public sector unions, which then kick back some of the money to the politicians' campaigns. It's totally corrupt, and infuriating.

Forty years ago CA was nothing like this, but since then the liberal infestation has grown apace, and now we're Red as anywhere. I'm worried that AZ, TX, etc. will become infected in time too. I had one ultra liberal friend say he was thinking of moving to AZ too, which pissed me off. He voted for all this crap, over and over, and now that he's got his way, he doesn't like it. But has he learned, and then vote differently in AZ? Of course not.

I'm not sure how it's going to shake out but the nastiest faction without a doubt will be the public employees.

Posted by: runninrebel at March 07, 2012 08:45 PM (N/1Dm)

Maybe, but my bet is on the feral underclass that the public employees will loose upon the citizenry. We're seeing signs of this already, for example in Oakland, which has (IIRC) 40+ offenses to which the police will not bother to respond. (Think that nugget has escaped the attention of Oakland's ... uh ... "Democrats?") The parallels to the late Roman Empire are striking. Rome, too, ran out of money to pay for its defense, and then it was Hello, Goths!

103 So many of my friends have left CA in the past ten years. Couldn't really figure out why, but it's just that they saw it coming and got out.

Now I see. Went to a condo complex and looked it over--about 10% of the places are bank owned. No telling how many more are "distressed."  Cataclysmic fuck up from our government.

It's really a third world situation, economy as well as ethnically. Diversity is fine, except that CA encourages them specifically not to assimilate. Immigrants brought down the crooked Bell pols, but they are swimming against a big tide.

I live in extreme northern ca. Modoc County.

Last I recall, we have about 25000 people here.

Total for the County.

We have 26 or 27 CHP road cops running full time.

Fed cops, and this includes USFS, BLM,  I would estimate at 20 to Thirty positions...

County cops at prolly 8 to 12 positions..

City cops total must be 6 or seven.

And all of the supporting "Team Work" that now goes on to enforce THE LAW.

Did I mention a few Game Wardens here too?

This is California.

113 You all want to yield CA to the libtards? They will soak you for the bad debts the state gov't racks up through a federal bailout, so you'll subsidize it without having any voice in stopping it. Instead of moving out you should send reinforcements so we can reclaim it. We few (we happy few) are still fighting here, but encouragement and hope of eventual relief from fellow conservatives would be cool. Retreat is not an option for some of us. We have to fight where we stand. Remember that when you say "fuck all those CA 'conservatives'"
