Charles M. Blow: Maybe Obama Has Devised An Elaborate Trap...
— Ace

He writes for the NYT, or perhaps "types" is more accurate. He likes to bait conservatives and say things like we don't know how to get our hump on and stuff.

I know this is trivial, but this is, well, just... You decide.

Some people suggest that Obama is luring Romney like the Russians lured Napoleon, getting him in too deep and out of his element. Maybe...

That's so sad.

So Obama devised this "Russian Winter" trap? And did so knowing that the next Obama v. Romney debate wouldn't happen for two weeks? And that next week's VP debate is surely a loss?

He decided to give himself two weeks of the public wondering if he's up to the job any longer? If he ever really was at all?

Forget about preparation.   Romney will always out-prepare Obama, because he's spent his whole life working in fields where hard work is expected and rewarded -- unlike college, law school, big law (if you're a "protected" hire), academia, or politics.

The real story last night which was obvious to anyone who can be remotely objective is... Romney is just a whole lot smarter than Obama.

That's something no amount of debate preparation is going to be able to fix.

My Plan
It's Super Secret (tell no one, not even Joe)
By Barack Hussein Obama

1. Lose badly on the economic debate.  No one cares about the economy anyway.
2. So, they'll NEVER EXPECT IT when I come back strong on foreign policy.  Blame the video for that whole Benghazi thing. (Note to self: send thank-you note to David Frum along with a $50 Dunkin Donuts gift card.  Get Joe to pay for it.)
3. The debate on social issues is the kill shot.  See point No. 1 re: no one caring about the economy.
4. Get in 9 holes before dinner.
5. Call B.A. re: his progress on manuscript for memoir #3. Tell him I expect to see a draft before it goes to the editor.

a better analogy is Isandwana-- too many Zulus ( Romney knowledge ) overrun Brits with too little ammo ( Hussein lack of knowledge )

Posted by: Major _____ de Coverly at October 04, 2012 03:14 PM (Dll6b)

Actually, the Brits had plenty of ammo at Isandlwana, but they didn't issue it in to the individual soldiers because it was against regulations. Most importantly, they were spread out in a huge perimeter with no effort made to fortify the position or consolidate in order to provide firepower density, which served the Brits well at Rourke's Drift.

Either way, military dumbassery, which still analogizes just fine with TFG's performance.

260 Liberals are amazing creatures.  They purport to be People of Science, and we conservatives are the troglodytes.  Yet present any liberal with the following two possibilities:

a) Barack Obama is a Machiavellian strategist nonpareil, who is laying an intricate and delicate trap which takes weeks to unfold, and Romney - through his dazzling performance - has foolishly walked right into it.

     -or-

b) Barack Obama just isn't as bright as he was made out to be.

Which do you think they will pick?  For People of Science, they seem to have difficulty applying the principle of Occam's Razor.

I watched the PBS panel last night.  Mostly libs, but serious libs and not jokes like Charles Blow.  The most pro-Obama of them simply said well, he sucked, but it doesn't matter because he is winning Florida and Ohio and Romney can't beat him without those states.  They seem to think Obama has really built a firewall with blacks and Latinos and single women who will be with him no matter what, and there are more of them together than every other group that might still swing toward Romney.  They think Ohio is the magic bullet and because no Republican has ever won without it, all Team Obama had to do was run $20 million of ads there caricaturing Romney and it's Game Over.

They may be right.  But I would not want to be on their side today counting on that thin reed to carry me to victory, when their candidate himself just blew chunks in front of 65 million people.

282 I read some lefty somewhere saying that Obama is a "chess player" and that he was setting Romney up by letting him state a bunch of lies in this debate that he could tear apart in later debates. Or something. Might make sense if at least one of the next two debates had a similar format, but since one is about foreign policy and the other is one of those idiotic "townhall" style debates where a bunch of moronic undecideds ask questions like "Why hasn't my skittle-pooping unicorn shown up in the mail yet?", I don't think that is the strategy Obama had in mind.

285 #261, this was right after Iwo Jima. Casualties were through the roof, the ETO had a really small reserve, AGF was making noises already about transferring excess ETO divisions to the Pacific for OLYMPIC and CORONET, so the feeling in Washington was that if Stalin wanted to bleed for Berlin, we'd let him, particularly since most of the real estate from the Elbe to Berlin was going to be the Soviet occupation zone anyway.

Anyway, 2nd Armored had its lead recon elements across the Elbe and was getting the bridgehead set when they were ordered to hold in place. As a Norwich grad, I am inclined to believe the story that Web Griffin retells about a furious White kicking the windows out of his command truck before really going into a rage. 2nd Armored had gotten screwed out of being the first American division into Paris, too.

Personally I always thought it was a mistake not to shake hands with our Soviet "allies" as far to the East as possible, but that's a whole other argument.
