— andy One of the big knocks on the idea of Keynesian pump priming through government-funded construction jobs is, as President Boy Genius found out, that there's really no such thing as a "shovel-ready" project.
Another criticism is that construction jobs are, by definition, temporary.
Well, the Chinese have solved both these problems in spectacular fashion:
One of the longest bridges in northern China collapsed on Friday, just nine months after it opened, setting off a storm of criticism from Chinese Internet users and underscoring questions about the quality of construction in the countryÂ’s rapid expansion of its infrastructure.A nearly 330-foot-long section of a ramp of the eight-lane Yangmingtan Bridge in the city of Harbin dropped 100 feet to the ground. Four trucks plummeted with it, resulting in three deaths and five injuries.
The 9.6-mile bridge is one of three built over the Songhua River in that area in the past four years. ChinaÂ’s economic stimulus program in 2009 and 2010 helped the country avoid most of the effects of the global economic downturn, but involved incurring heavy debt to pay for the rapid construction of new bridges, highways and high-speed rail lines all over the country.
Brilliant! If you build "infrastructure" that has to be constantly rebuilt, those construction jobs become permanent.
And shovel-ready? Well hells yeah. There's 330 feet of bridge rubble to move right now. Not to mention the 3 shovel-ready dead bodies.
Construction can begin immediately because all the permitting and everything was already done once. Just change the dates on the forms, and you're off and running.
The auto industry even gets a little boost out of it but the results for healthcare are more mixed. On the one hand, there were injuries that required treatment but on the other hand, those dead folks' costs went to zero.

Collapsed bridges, completely empty new cities, the fake disney-esque amusement park that never opened, the world's largest indoor (empty) mall, all those crumbling Olympic venues from four years ago.....what could go wrong?
There was a photo here a couple years ago that showed one of those brand new high rise buildings from one of those empty Chinese cities, and the building had just tipped over and fallen down. No word on Hank Johnson's whereabouts at the time.

Well, first they'll deploy a small crowd 100,000, at gunpoint (per se), and clean up the mess of the bridge in about a weeks time, erase the collapse from the news, and move on.

The Chinese everyman is not sold the con at all. Basically he is doing what he has always done, which is work your goddamned ass off or else peasant. I'm a sinophile, and I made a few deep friendships in college with the ChiCom engineering students.
They are good people, corporate spies but what the hell are you gonna do in their shoes?
Anyway they cook their books by killing tattletales. The job I do when I do taxes is figure out how to allow people to safely lie to our government "unknowingly" within non redflag parameters. I don't "help" overtly I sermonize about what can and cannot be claimed, and I offer to e-file for them but if they go home and get creative I can't stop 'em and I am not bound by my mark for their alterations to my analysis.
In China on a macro level I screw up I get to play "let's test how connected I really am" or get shot.

Nine months isn't bad compared with Choomsters accomplishments. Cash for Clunkers was a joke before it even completed. Government Motors was back underwater within 9 months of the IPO. Guess he just didn't spend enough.
Ah yeah. Cash for Clunkers....I remember watching youtube videos of perfectly serviceable cars being destroyed in order to allow those well off enough to buy a new car to do so on the backs of those less well off, in the form of taxes. When you're working every waking hour to make ends meet, and trying to coax another month out of a real clunker to get to and from work, I'm just certain this made everyone feel all hopey and changey.
Obungle doubled down on stupid, and hit the same working stiffs for more money in order to finance the purchase of feel good greeny all electric cars....50k bux a pop for the car, 8k bux in 'rebates', financed again by people that simply want to drive to and from work each day in their same old clunkers they still have.

Well, while socialism as an economic system certainly plays a role in this event, the general lack of concern for human life/safety common to eastern culture (and magnified greatly by Maoist communist doctrine) is the main culprit. The disregard for anything, and I mean ANYTHING, other than personal monetary gain is nearly total, from top to bottom.

Four overloaded trucks collapsed the bridge? But the trucks could bear the load until they were on the bridge? I suspect there is a flaw in the logic somewhere...

Federal Pacific, a company that made electrical panels, went out of business some years ago due to faulty breakers burning houses down. They were faking test results. After about 20 on/off cycles the breakers would stop tripping and acted like switches. There are hundreds of thousands of those things still in the field. Ticking time bombs...

China is getting old too fast to get rich. Between China's corruption and demographic problem, China will slowly sink again. The coming century will be the American century. All that is required is a leader willing to open lands to energy production and the jobs will appear, gas prices will be lower, tax revenues will increase regardless of tax rates, and everything will become more affordable.

If necessary, Gloria Steinem herself would get down and suck the presiding imam's schlong to prove how much the fems love their little brown brothers. Remember - to the Libtards, Islam is a minority race. Thus, being "not white" they are immune to any moral judgment.
Feminists don't give a shit about "legitimate rape" and it's definition when it comes to their overarching goal of furthering Leftist goals. If that means that a bunch of women have to get raped, murdered, tortured, and have acid thrown on their faces, then so be it. They DO NOT CARE.

However, if we had an effective propaganda arm in the Republican party we could exploit this. We could HAMMER the feminists and muz at once, by doing nothing but showing the truth. Ask the question - where is the outrage? Where is the advocacy? Why spend so much time bashing Christians?

Chinese officials have tended to blame overloaded trucks for the collapses, and did so again on Friday.
Did their engineers quit using the tried and true equations with their reasonable "factors of safety" automatically built in? 'Cuz last time I checked, those were pretty standard things - Civil Engineering hasn't changed all that much.
And SIX bridges collapsing since 2011? Just how many new bridges have collapsed in this country since.....well, honestly, "Galloping Gertie" (1940) is the last one I remember hearing about, and once engineers figured out what had caused that, they took steps to ensure that it never happened again.

Last I checked, they had upwards of 30 million men that will never be married, and that number continues to grow. Sure, the black market trade in NK females that manage to sneak into China helps some, but even with the trade in female slaves, they've got a growing problem.
An aging, and nearly childless population is only part of it...like us, they're promising support to their aging population on the shoulders of the young...but unlike us, their youth is finding their chances of procreating, and producing the next generation of 'providers' increasingly remote. And that, according to Tom Cullen, spells "Expansionism".

At least nine other people on the street were also shot, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg said it is unclear whether they were shot by the suspect or police.
“Some may have been shot accidentally by police officers who responded immediately,” Bloomberg said.
The NYPD said the two officers fired a total of 16 rounds. JohnsonÂ’s handgun was able to hold eight rounds and at least one round was still in the clip, police said. ItÂ’s possible he had a second magazine, CBS 2′s Dick Brennan reported.
Police said it is unlikely that Johnson fired during the shootout. One witness told investigators that Johnson fired, but ballistics tests donÂ’t back that up, authorities said.

The locals are still using the coral runways we built on the Pacific islands during WWII...many of them without modern upgrades. Rape is one of the most traumatic acts a woman can experience. If a pregnancy is the result of the crime, she's then faced with a decision of whether to keep the child or not. This adds to the despair and emotional trauma. Some women who are raped don't even get to choose, as is the case with the 15 year old girl abducted, beaten and repeatedly raped in Chicago. One of the attacks produced a child. There also was the young woman who was abducted as a teen in Oregon, I believe...she had two children who were fathered by the rapist/kidnapper.
It is beyond the pale to even introduce reasons or rationales as to why women such as the two cited examples - or any other rape victim - were more or less likely to conceive as a result of the most horrific event their bodies/mind/spirits have experienced. It is especially inappropriate for a man who seeks one of the highest offices in the land to invite debate on the subject in the clumsiest of ways.

Who gives a fuck about "less likely"? You can't side-step the difficult choice of what to do about abortion in the case of rape, which is what it seemed Akin was trying to do, just because it may occur slightly less often. Akin conceded in the same interview the obvious fact that pregnancy still occurs from rape, which makes bringing up the rate at which it occurs from rape moot, and fucking retarded.

Yes that's true, you did say up front that Akin was a fool.
The article you posted is more on the lines of advice on how to conceive, not a study on the likelihood of a rape pregnancy. From time immemorial women have depended on old wives' tales, herbal concoctions, novenas to St. Jerome, "correct" sexual positions, etc. to help conceive. The article you brought could possibly fall into that particular bag of age old female tricks, or it could be based on legitimate study and research. But the fact set presented is not one that quantifies the likelihood of pregnancy to a rape victim. Those studies have been done, the figure most cited is 5%, although I dispute that figure due to the significant underreporting of rape crimes, per FBI statistics.

Waterhouse- The question of what to do in the case of rape is the prybar that pro abortion people use against pro-lifers. It is for this reason that the pro life community points out the small amount of abortions that are the result of rape.

That's why my grandmother and her sisters were sent up the mountain in WWII when the villagers learned of the advancing Nazi troops. (Italy, after the American invasion began.) Seems like simple peasant villagers had a greater awareness of the consequences of unwelcomed sexual relations than some learned individuals do today.

The Chinese auto industry has grown tenfold in the last decade to become the worldÂ’s largest, looking like a formidable challenger to Detroit. But now, the Chinese industry is starting to look more like Detroit in its dark days in the 1980s.
Inventories of unsold cars are soaring at dealerships across the
nation, and the Chinese industryÂ’s problems show every sign of growing
worse, not better. So many auto factories have opened in China in the
last two years that the industry is operating at only about 65 percent
of capacity — far below the 80 percent usually needed for profitability.
Shovelin' off to Shanghai.

Do you know that vaginal mucous changes in consistancy during a woman's cycle? That vaginal temperature does the same? Do you know that there are machines that can tell you when you are ovulating by monitoring your urine? And none of that addresses rape any more than your sperm motility.

Yeah, I know about those things.
So....what you're saying is, that a woman shouldn't leave the house when she is at her most fertile time...unless she has body guards?
She should be monitoring that shit.
There is the technology available now.
Yeesh.
Guys that are such fucking experts on the female physiology come across as creepy crotch-sniffers.
But keep digging that hole, mofo.

The designs are fine, its the execution in the field and materials. That'll wreck a design with even a 50% safety factor. You just can't substitute recycled tuna can steel when making rebar and I-beams.
