Chris Christie Gets Downright Angry On NJ Boardwalk
— Ace

I think -- but don't know -- that what he's objecting to is being heckled even though his family is present, and he's just buying an ice cream cone on a night out.

Of course, the malefactor seems to be a teacher:

Gov. Christie (R-NJ) was hangin' with his family in Seaside Heights ... and had just ordered an ice cream cone when a passerby fired off some snide comments about Christie's policy on education.

I don't know it's a teacher, but they seem to be the ones objecting to his "education policy" (which is basically the same as everyone else's policy, except teachers can't have whatever they demand). The other possible controversy is the Rowan College situation (Rutgers Camden seems to be in the process of being spun off into its own, less prestigious school, which has some Rutgers Camden grads and students pissed off).

Damn, you just destroyed your argument right there.

Let's stipulate that Princeton is in Central Jersey.

Here are the 4-year schools that are south of Princeton:

92 This has been a tough month for me personally; last month my mother - who was a "Rosie the Riveter" type - a lab technician in a steel mill during WWII -  passed away at age 96.

A month to the day later her brother in law - my uncle Joe - passed away. Uncle Joe was one of the heroes of the Battle of the Bulge - he volunteered to be in the lead tank  in Patton's relief column because his brother was an infantry man pinned down in Bastogne by the German offensive.

We have no replacements for such people; they saved the world and never said much about it.

We owe a special debt to those people; we can't allow left wing revisionist historians to denigrate what they did.

96 The College of New Jersey,IIRC, used to have a fairly good rep as a liberal arts college, back when liberal arts colleges actually taught the liberal arts. Y'no, back when English majors had to read Shakespeare, Milton, and Melville and write informed, coherent papers......instead of drooling expressionistic free verse about Dick Cheney and elaborating queer theory. Been a while since those days, I fear.

99 There are two universities in the entire state of NJ:  Princeton and Seton Hall.  Any other university in the state should be shut down for being an impostor.

Rutgers is akin to be shaken down, and Camden once held the honor of the highest murder per capita in the U.S. (too tired to look it up now).  To say you graduated/taught at any university with the words "Camden" or "Rutgers" would be like boasting about your small penis.

To be fair, NJ competes strongly in rest stops, tolls,  mosquitoes, ghettos, and relocated Long-Islanders.  Poor Christie has the deck stacked against him.

102 Nobody who anything about Jersey would say Princeton is in South Jersey.

You have no idea about how good Rutgers-Camden is, so you just make some stuff up and say it's bad.

The bottom line is this. Whatever South Jersey has or doesn't have in terms of colleges and universities, Rutgers-Camden is the best. Taking Rutgers-Camden away from South Jersey was going to do serious damage to South Jersey's hopes for the future. Fortunately, wiser heads prevailed, and Chris Christie's misguided plan has been completely rejected.

Rutgers is the primary state university of New Jersey. There is no "University of New Jersey" or "New Jersey State." Rutgers University is the State University of New Jersey.

For Rutgers to not have a presence in South Jersey would have been a major mistake.

Rowan I'm sure is OK, but its founder was tied up with supplying the Iraqis against us in the war several years ago, and it does not have the prestige of the name Rutgers. Chris Christie's plan would have relegated South Jersey to being stuck with Rowan and that's it.

Yes, education costs too much, and unions suck. The point is, though, that it is worth fighting to conserve what good is in our educational institutions. I don't know all the answers, but keeping Rutgers-Camden as a fully-fledged campus of Rutgers University was absolutely the correct move for the state, for South Jersey, and for the sake of education itself.

Chris Christie is not on my list of favorite people. I don't trust him.

181 Apparently Chris Christie didn't get the right math education. When the Rutgers Board of Trustees voted on his plan, they rejected it 32-4. Maybe he thought he could win with just another vote or two, as he didn't pull the plan at the last minute, but went right up to the vote.

http://goo.gl/HwszJ

Some might think that those trustees must be all Rutgers-Camden grads, too, or South Jerseyans. Well, that can't be, but maybe those trustees are better at math than some others.

Maybe South Jersey really does have its own unique identity. Judging by this thread, I'd say people have opinions about it. It almost seems like a part of New Jersey that is somehow different than Trenton, or central Jersey or elsewhere, and in any case far removed from an angry, unnumbered, cold room they call Governor Christie's office.

214 Trenton and Newark are like Detroit ghettos, compressed into 20% of the land mass.  Their respective GAMs (ghetto atomic mass) rank at the top of the list, just below Camden.

GAMs are a relatively new branch of urban science, only recently published by two Social Scientists at Rutgers University - Camden.  There's still some disagreement on they calculated "ghettoness", but their GAM ranking represents an objective, quantifiable metric that ultimately yields the crime rate per square inch.

Other measurements are now seen as more subjective and less reliable.  For example the OE800 - which measured the number of discarded Old English 800 Malt Liquor bottles in an abandoned lot; or the CCPB which calculated the number of Church's Chickens per Block.

Two Social Scientists from Rutgers-Camden - if that didn't give it away...

You obviously have a very deep and varied talent pool for this, commenting here.

Seriously, most of the horde would make outSTANDing hater proxies, and I'd wager the insults/denigrating/slander/outright rage they could hurl at the object of anyone's distaste would be an astounding thing if fuelled by the cold hard cash that could be converted into val-u-rite.
