11 I received an ASUS Tablet. Which rocks. I also got the 4th season of Castle, which is very cool. Lots of B&N gift cardage which is not quite as cool as the tablet, but darned close. And then a signed Limited Edition of Monster Hunter Legion, by Larry Correia, he of the many-times linked gun-advocacy article. All in all, it's pretty much the best haul I can recall.

I got my wifey a couple of her favorite series on DVD, and a large print ESV Bible. She was quite pleased.

22 Got some gift cards at a company holiday luncheon. The family doesn't really go in for the gift thing much with all the kids grown or far away. We'd rather spend our pooled funds on fixing up the house.

I did give myself a crap ton of video games because there were some amazing sales, especially at the Microsoft Store with fairly recent releases for $10-$15. But I would have jumped on that any time of year. Otherwise the money piles up and then my debts get paid off and I start feeling unAmerican.

23 I haven't given it to her yet, but I'm giving my friend who is a big knitter a lovely handmade yarn bowl with a gift certificate to a yarn shop that I don't think she knows about. It's in a bohemian neighborhood in Salt Lake. I'm going to take her up there and treat her to a lunch at a Spanish restaurant near the yarn store. Gave my husband a super-deluxe stocking of goodies and a couple of outings. One will be a day at the gun club where the range guy will help us with clay shooting and another is a surprise outing Saturday night. He doesn't read here so I can tell you it's a New Year's Eve style cooking class/meal. Received some fun/wonderful gifts from my husband, my favorites being tix to see the Dog Whisperer next month and a really pretty dress I hope to wear Sat night.

I got a nice set of kitchen knives (I do most of the cooking), a couple of shirts, and a new multimeter.

It was a small Christmas this year. The wife and I went to her mother's for a bit this afternoon and then to my mom's this evening. We watched Scrooged last night and A Christmas Story is on now (no cable so I managed to avoid it until now). After ACS we will have the annual watching of Die Hard and Christmas will be complete.

I got an Archaeological Bible, a watch I needed, since my ten year old timepiece gave up the ghost, and a ceramic manatee with a sun painted on it. That one is going to be replaced with a sunless manatee as soon as the new shipment arrives at the garden store. Kids got clothes and video games, hubby got clothes, a pen and happy this morning. All in all, a great Christmas.

41 I gave my kittehs a couple of plush toys, which they played with for about five minutes, then went back to their full-time jobs, i.e. sleeping. I got a tin of homemade cookies from a customer at work, and an unexpected dusting of snow last night. I don't have much in the way of family, and the few non-lib friends I have left long ago lost interest in trading gift cards as basically pointless. (See Palerider at #12.) So all in all it's been a quiet, relaxing, stress-free Christmas.

54 I think they have coffee machines that come with a grinder, but I could be wrong. Men can be very difficult to buy for. Mine sure is. I do great with stocking stuffers and little ancillary gifts, but any kind of main gift sort of thing is almost impossible for me to get him. He is very picky about specs and such.

I got a toaster oven because of all the kitchen stuff I have I didn't have one, a new three step step ladder because of the hobbit thing, a bunch of makeup because I am too a girl and a gift card to Kohl's. I think I'm going to use that to finally get a Keurig. I have a Senseo that I love but the Keurig has more flavor options.

62 What I gave... Gift of music - the 3 kids and I performed at the family Christmas Eve Holy Supper. A shopping spree that started in the toy section of Wallyworld and ended at Toys for Tots. Salvation Army - Adopt a family. Single dad, with two boys who's requests were so modest, I broke down in tears at the Walgreens check-out. What I got... Contentment - playing music written by my daughter, performed by our impromptu quartet, and the joy of that time spent together - just the four of us. Gratitude - from the woman who was picking up the toys to wrap and deliver. Made my entire day. Hope - that maybe this family has it just a little easier this Christmas. Overall, a great Christmas

take it back and get a $30 french press and a conical burr grinder. yeah, you can't set it to automatically make coffee at 6am, but the coffee it makes is far better.

My husband's office sponsored a family in need one year for Christmas. Turned out they were takers--in every respect. They bitched that some of the toys weren't wrapped, and that the TV wasn't big enough, and that the dinner wasn't cooked for them--they had to do that part. Never again.

My in-laws got me a coffee press, ceramic fondue pot that heats with a tea-light, and a Korean barbecue grill that fits over a stove burner. All from World Market. Being very spoiled I also got a bottle of Kaluha, which has dropped a lot in price which I hope doesn't say bad things about the quality, and several Kindle books.

The best thing I got was my kids being flu free and on the mend after a worrying week of wondering who was going to catch it next.

We were not in a desperate situation, but this act of kindness gave the kids an extra Christmas boost. We moved into this community earlier this year and our church felt the need to give. It felt weird being the receiver but also wrong to refuse, they wanted to help. II won't lie, it helped. I'm a single mom with 3 kids at homeand it's expensive. Even though I make a good salary things are always tight and I am frugal. As for giving my oldest daughter got a new sewing machine, my younger daughter got got a mini stero system for her room (inexpensive one) and my little boy is in toy heaven... Remote control helicopter and Lincoln Logs. I got my first white Christmas in 30 years it was beautiful.

I gave: stepkids each got mangas (Japanese comics) from me, hubby got $25 gift certificate from ThinkGeek, 4 year old got a little tablet (from "Grammy," although we nudged her in that direction), trucks, a "Thomas" matching game, and a few other "stocking stuffer" items. Oh, and this big remote controlled truck toy that has a playset for it to move around on. Took hubby awhile to put the thing together last night. And we also gave family members meat and potato pies. Overall a good Christmas. Spent Christmas Eve with my mother in law, and part of Christmas day with his ex-wife's family so we could spend time with the kids. We didn't think ahead to what we were going to eat at the end of the night, so after hubby went searching he ended up bringing home Chinese food.

183 I got pajamas, a Kindle paperwhite, a cashmere scarf, a jewelry tree, and an apple slicer.

Both kids got new laptops and books and the girl child got the shoes she asked for ("black pumps that can transition from the office to evening") and the boy got some DVDs and video games.

I also made a very bad parental decision and bought my son a joke gift of the talking Randall Honey Badger, R version. It is funny, but the "f" bombs fly and that was disconcerting to hear on Christmas morning. (He's nineteen, BTW, so it's not like he's never heard that word before, but it's very strange hearing it come out of a toy.) So honey badger was banished from the living room, but, you know, I sense he didn't give a shit.
