And outrun them, too.  Most movies are total farces, these days, without any attachment to reality.  Even on the more superficial level, they have "families" who don't look like they were born on the same planet, let alone from at least one common parent.  I think they go out of their way to make families look unrelated.

22

I think the bad music...or the bad jazz...was used to add to the 'rough and gritty' aspect of seeing women fighting. ....Back then, 'nice' women weren't supposed to fight. ....'Nice' women were supposed to suck it up, and be nice.

Today, we have Warrior Princesses, and Vampire Warriors like Selene....with heroic music playing in the background when they are kicking butt.

Not a Dog-Eating scene, as good as it was.  It's easier to find a human cannibalism scene than a dog-eating scene in Western cinema.  Shit, they make whole movies series of movies about cannibals.

But dog-eaters ... only fit for the Oval Office.

38 Cat fights? What about when Jones the cat hisses at the alien at the end of "Alien?"

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at April 28, 2012 02:59 PM (Af3Wg)

39 The news from China brings us this story.Note it was over a parling dispute. April 19, a female scooter rider killed a man by squeezing his testicles for the packing dispute, in Haikou City, Hainan Province. It was learned, the woman, 41 years old, rode on her scooter to an elementary school in Meilan District, Haikou City to pick up her child that day. When she wanted to pack her scooter in front of a shop, she was rejected by the shop owner, a 42-year-old male. The two parties soon fell into a quarrel, and then the physical confrontation. The furious woman called up her husband and brother to come help her, which resulted in a more violent fist fight. During the fight, the middle aged woman manged to grab the manÂ’s testicles, and squeezed them till he finally collapsed on the ground. The man was immediately rushed to hospital, but unfortunately died there despite of efforts.

55 Oh Lord, another insane judge. A federal judge says an Ohio prison that forces all inmates to adhere to a strict Islamic diet is not an establishment of religion because everyone eats the same food. A federal judge recently threw out prisoner James Rivers' lawsuit against Ohio Prison director Gary Mohr's decision to ban pork from kitchens in all prisons under control of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Mohr made the decision to stop serving pork products after a Muslim on death row filed a lawsuit against the prison system. Abdul Awkal, an inmate on death row, argued in his lawsuit that the prisonÂ’s failure to provide halal meals violated his religious freedoms. Despite AwkalÂ’s claims, Islamic teaching says it is perfectly acceptable to eat non-halal meat if there is no halal food available. Islam teaches that meat such as pork is considered unclean and not to be eaten. This would include all pork products including sausage and bacon. Awkal was later joined by a second Muslim who is not on death row. Prison authorities had argued that they provided non-pork and vegetarian options for Muslims. The Muslims said that was not good enough and still insisted that the food they were given meet halal standards. Despite AwkalÂ’s claims that eating halal meat is a requirement of his faith, Islamic teaching says it is perfectly acceptable to eat non-halal meat if there is no halal food available. Prison authorities had argued that providing halal meet for the thousands of Muslims in prison would bankrupt the system. In response to the lawsuit, prison officials stopped serving pork products to everyone; including atheists and those whose religion contains no such prohibition. Former Navy chaplain Dr. Gordon Klingenschmitt says while the judge ruled it is acceptable to force all non-Muslims to adhere to a Muslim diet, Christians have no dietary rights.

Personally.....I am very skeptical about the whole idea of "Rehabilitation".

Not sure it is even possible.

So I have a problem with the fact that prisoners are able to file lawsuits about things like food service. ....Or even filing lawsuits at all, other than appeals.

Especially on death row! ...Flip the damn switch already.

I like Coltrane, but I can only repeat that so often Posted by: chemjeff at April 28, 2012 06:52 PM (7FadD) Good modern jazz? No such animal. Jazz generally hasn't been worth a damn since around 1960, and Miles Davis put the final nail in the coffin with Bitches Brew. Jazz nowadays is generally either muzak for white-wine drinking metrosexual douchebags, or the gimmicky schtick of playing jazz with non-traditional instruments (Bela Fleck and Charlie Hunter). Fleck and Hunter are great musicians, but it's not jazz (Hunter is a fucking MONSTER live). Yeah, get off my lawn.

103 Really pretty spring day today. Cool thing about these parts is that lilac bushes grow like weeds. They seem to be the equivalent of the wild rosemary that you see everywhere in SoCal. And I gather they are deer-resistant. So that's nice. IIRC lilacs do not do well in SoCal. The guy I knew at UC Riverside's arboretum said there were only a few varieties that would grow there.

Can anyone recommend some good modern jazz? I like Coltrane, but I can only repeat that so often

I assume you've also listened to Charles Mingus?  I particularly recommend "THe Black Saint and the Sinner Lady."

Modern stuff is a bit iffy.  I tend to like the ECM stuff, but they're more like modern chamber music.  Jan Garbarek, Ralph Towner, older Keith Jarrett.  Oregon (back when Collin Walcott was alive) is more folk-world than jazz, but it still sounds great.  I personally enjoy Cecil Taylor but I know that's like instant headache music for many people.

Don't worry about what it means.

First of all, this is way too much work to do for ampersands, which suck, anyway.  No one even writes them in script.  They exist only on keyboards and signs.

In any event, I know nothing about Macs, but javascript is a security setting that I'm sure you have for any page you're browsing.  For Firefox, it's under the preferences menu item (in the edit menu).  For whatever you use on Macs, it might be called Options, or Preferences, or security ...  It'll probably have a place to turn off pop-ups and loading images and stuff, and "run javascript" (or something like that) will also be there.  If you turn that off and refresh the page, you'll be able to enter ampersands ...  Personally, I wouldn't bother.

138 Not a good idea to go to your Dentist ex girlfriend if she's batshit nuts... Anna Mackowiak, 34, is under investigation for medical malpractice and could face three years in jail after giving her ex-boyfriend a heavy dose of anaesthetic and pulling out all of his teeth when he turned up at her surgery with a toothache. She apparently sent him on his way none the wiser afterwards, still numb in the face and completely wrapped in bandages. This all happened in their town of their town of Wroclaw, Poland, but “a woman scorned” is a familiar cross-cultural universal. “I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions,” she remarked, according to the Daily Mail. “But when I saw him lying there I just thought, ‘What a bas*ard.’” Olszewski explained how it occurred in his point of view: “I knew something was wrong because when I woke up I couldn’t feel any teeth and my jaw was strapped up with bandages…She told me my mouth was numb and I wouldn’t be able to feel anything for a while and that the bandage was there to protect the gums, but that I would need to see a specialist.” “I didn’t have any reason to doubt her, I mean I thought she was a professional,” he said. “But when I got home I looked in the mirror and couldn’t f****** believe it. The b**** had emptied my mouth.”

Posted by: steevy at April 28, 2012 04:11 PM (7W3wI)

139 Peaches, in Firefox, go to the EDIT menu and choose Preferences.  Then , pick the tab Content.  You should see a box "enable javascript" that is checked.  Uncheck it, close and refresh your page.  You should be set to go.  Just type and ampersand and it will be there.

When you're finished, go back and recheck the "enable javascript" box, because you can't do much on the web without javascript.
