My immigrant grandmother grew up in the Soviet Union, was able to get over here after the war, and always voted Democrat because Truman was President when she arrived (an admittedly stupid reason but that's what she did). Many of her friends were the same way. None of them voted for Obama in 2008 because the things he and the Democrat party were saying reminded them too much of what they had heard growing up. Her feelings on this party can basically be boiled down to, "I thought I had escaped all of this and never imagined that I would have to live through it again."

WTF is wrong with the native born Americans these days?

I am starting to think that our immigration problem is not that there are too many foreigners coming here, it's that there aren't enough natives leaving.

107 "It seems like people don't learn from the past"

Especially not when the educational system is focused on covering up the past.

It's funny.  I remember when Reagan and Bush 1 won, and I thought we had at last seen the end of socialism.  I know better now, of course, because as the FF recognized, the default condition is for humans to return to abusing each other.   The brilliance of the constitution was that it enshrined a way to maintain the Republic regardless of the historical ignorance of the population.  Or at least it did, until we had a president who viewed it as an impediment, a bump in the road, to his ascension.

115 Seriously though, what is Gallup supposed to do? Release polls that the DoJ doesn't approve if and your business will be gone, and personal homes will be raided. Dogs will be shot. Hopefully no humans too. Or maybe they'll get "SWAT'd" like happened to Erick Erickson, RS mcCain, Patterico, and others. Or Gibson Guitars. Even Ace has blogged about his fear of being raided by Obama Loyalists on the grounds of "an anonymous phone tip from the Internet." I'm just afraid that as the election gets closer Obama will start flexing the NDAA.

127 Here is what Rasmussen is doing.

He reweights his daily track based on the number of respondents he has gotten over the last 7 days in that particular poll.  So if he got 40% Democrat and 35% Republican to answer the questions over the last week, that is the factor he uses to reweight his numbers.

To his credit, he isn't changing methodology now (he shouldn't), but it is becoming very suspect.  After this election, he will need to take a hard look and decide if that makes sense to continue forward.  His D+5 contradicts his R+2.6 and both can not be true.

His results toward Obama are being artificially amplified by his sample.  Moves toward Romney are dampened by the over sample of Democrats.

I have a theory (without proof) that Democrats are a lot more interested in responding to polls this year.

This morning I was listening to XM Public Radio and Bob Edwards played an old interview from 2006 with Merle Haggard.  Edwards asked Haggard what it was like playing and living in the Bakersfield, CA area in the 1960s when he launched his muisc career.  He said it was fabulous, much more freewheeling and fun than anything today.  "I had more freedom in 1965 as a parolee than a Congressman has today."   He said he barely recognizes America anymore.  And this was 6 years ago, I can only imagine what he thinks today.

There was a great video of Margaret Thatcher making this same point in Parliament circulating a few months ago.

Same with the companies agreeing to not send out layoff notices over Sequestration Cuts. If you don't play ball Obama will have your house raided, and you'll lose your government contracts, putting you out of business. It's time to take the blinders off.

That, and just pure stupidity/envy.

Of course they are.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

R's and Indies aren't wanting to go on record and say how they're voting.

We have a Thug in the White House, who could persecute them if he gets to stay there.

We've never had a thug like Barky, before....as our president.

People see what happened to Joe the Plumber, and Zimmerman...and they don't want to take a chance on being punished too.

So, the polls are just not going to be as accurate now, while this Thug is in power.

154 133 "I have a theory (without proof) that Democrats are a lot more interested in responding to polls this year."

I completely agree, but it's hard to really quantify this phenomenon.

Just from anecdotes, when I see my wife's FaceBook page, her liberal friends basically enjoy vomiting their liberal talking points on a regular basis.  It's relentless grafitti, and honestly, the insulting things people have said make me not want to EVER be in their company again.

But her conservative friends?  You might once a month see one of them ask to give a thumbs up to a Romney ad.

It's the same at most social situations, the liberal is always the obnoxious one, fully wiling to absolutely ruin a party whereas most conservatives keep the conversation away from these topics.

The problem is, liberals have always been like this, the question is, is it effecting modern polling now more than in the past?  Does having a "black President" really make things more sensitive?
