— Ace In what sense? In this exchange, a reporter asks Carney about this, and seems to concede it was "out of context" (though maybe I'm wrong in that interpretation).
In context, Obama said the private economy was adding jobs, cited some figure for that, asserted the "private sector is doing fine," then said the problem is in state and local government's layoffs of public sector workers.
Indeed, Carney repeats all that here, minus the "private sector is doing fine" quote.
Obama's words aren't being taken out of context-- the "context" is that he was making just this very argument, that the public sector is the troubled one, and the private sector is healthy.
At any rate, the reporter wants to know if Obama himself will refuse to take an "unflattering" sentence of Romney's and then pounce on it. Carney refuses to answer the "hypothetical."
Carney also says reporters should "do their jobs" and report context.
The context of Obama's statement, that the private sector is doing fine, was an argument advancing the proposition that the private sector is doing fine.
There's the context.
By the way, I'm on Comeback Alert. Obama, and the press, will attempt to paint a new narrative of Obama coming back strong after a bad few weeks.
This always happens, and to some extent, it will be true: Obama must have some weeks that are better than the last two. The last two have been like a horror movie for him. Everything bad they hoped would not happen, did happen.
But I'll be on the lookout for goofy overstatements about this, of wishcasting, of attempting to portray a meh week as a Comeback.
Obama's very bad two weeks reminded me of Tom Cruise's trash-talk in The Color of Money. Specifically: "It's like a nightmare, isn't it? And it keeps getting worse."
I can't find that stupid scene, but this is sort of fun.

the left always used this "teachers, policemen and firemen" crap when they want to send money to their public sector union buddies.
Our side always seems to be on the defensive.. News shows on Sunday had the left asking "So, you don't want teachers to have jobs? - You want firefighters to lose their jobs?" that kinda shit..
And not one on the show I was watching would say: It's not the job of the federal government to pay for teachers, firemen and policemen! It's a local thing!

Corzine testified that he’d have “trouble giving you the exact statistics” about the control personnel who were on the ground making sure customer money was safe. But then he did get specific, explaining that, yes, MF Global did enhance its compliance and control system to meet the challenges of its riskier business model: “We made changes, upgraded. We also installed a new technology system.”
Rep. Peter King (R-LI) pressed him, asking whether those changes included “new personnel or just reprograms of old personnel?”
Again Corzine was uncharacteristically specific, answering, “No. There were new people at it.”
ThatÂ’s not what it says in the trusteeÂ’s report.

There's the context.>>
Disagree...the context was an argument in favor of more government. The private sector IS doing fine in Obama's horribly skewed view of reality...the context of his remark was that "state and local" governments are not faring so well economically.
Because in his view, we need more government.
Always more government.

I'm not sure at this point.
I think that the deal he cut with the Dims about automatic spending cuts means he can't shut down the government through the lack of a continuing budget resolution.

Yeah, Mooch will steal everything she can, pardons for terrorists, and maybe, worst of all, some Supreme Court justices may retire to allow Obama to appoint replacements. The Dem controlled senate could use the nuclear option to overcome any filibuster. And then there are the treaties he may enter into . . . .

Ace - the momentum is shifting with what appears to be a press emboldened by sensing this train wreck of an administration.
The comments on the economy were of course not taken out of context. Hiding behind such thinly filament only works if the clause in which one argues was taken out of context would be accurate in another such context.
Bottom line, there is no way to insert Obama's private sector is doing fine stateements into a contextual setting that comports with any sense of reality.
The press conference was not a disaster for the comments on the economy. No... it was a disaster because of what Mr. Obama said over the national security leaks and the declarative statements to the effect his administration should be above reproach on the subject.
The issues surrounding the leaks will rule the day and implicate Obama's senior appointees who are nothing more than campaign political functionaries.
This is gonna get very interesting.

They can try it, but I think they'll get a REAL filibuster if that happens. None of this pussy "no cloture" shit.
45 Senate members taking turns reading the goddamn phone book for 2 months to block attempts to replace Ginsburg and Breyer's replacements.

Ordinarily, even with Dem administrations, they'd see this as an opportunity to pounce. That's not the case today.
But it will be even better. They will see this as an opportunity to "help". And that's what will cause the Obama campaign to collapse. 1000 campaign managers in the MSM thinking they know better than Obama's team how to save him.

Monica Crowley said the other day....that she was going to start calling the 'public sector unions'...."government unions"....because that is what they are.
Here here!
I think that calling government, the 'Public Sector', is too mild....too complimentary.
It is....the "Government Sector".
And continuing to call it the 'Public Sector', implies that everything the government does....is truly in the public's best interest.
When nothing could be further from the truth.

There is a good ad in here somewhere.
Obama has spent his entire life not taking responsibility for ANYTHING: His grades? Under lock and key. His former associations with Marxist nutjobs? Off-limits. His pot smoking? Youthful exuberance. The economy? Inherited it and would have fixed it if Republicans hadn't blocked his brilliant plans.
President "It's Not My Fault".
And the tagline is - "Mr President, if nothing is your fault, why are you in charge?"

The "out of context" argument. The email must have gone out to the MFM. Monitoring the Today Show transmission. Our friend Meggie Mac was on humping her new book with some other 'tard. Ann Curry [bless her sweet heart], rather than asking the 'tard what he thought, resorted to a leading question: "Wasn't the President's remark taken out of context?"
These people have no sense of shame.

Q What about the Republicans saying that youÂ’re blaming the Europeans for the failures of your own policies?
THE PRESIDENT: The truth of the matter is that, as I said, we’ve created 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months, over 800,000 just this year alone. The private sector is doing fine. Where we’re seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government — oftentimes, cuts initiated by governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government and who don’t have the same kind of flexibility as the federal government in dealing with fewer revenues coming in.
That's the exact question asked and how Chump answered.
