— Ace Just a claim. Romney's not touching it.
A proposal of the manÂ’s story was created and viewed by Radar. The document claims that there are multiple sources who can back up allegations that Obama used and sold cocaine in college. The alleged pal was willing to go on the record for the story and take a polygraph test, according to the source.
A Trump adviser, by the way, denies that this is his bombshell. He says he has something else.
“Mr. Trump’s announcement is substantially more important to the American people than these allegations made against the president,” Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump, told TheDC by phone on Tuesday.
I gotta tell ya, that sounds like Birth Certificate stuff. I was hoping he had something, even though, honestly, I don't think it matters. I think this election is about the economy, period, and Obama's failed record. But still, it would be nice to have something to put Obama further off his stride.
Legal Insurrection thinks this is a "shot across the bow" for Team Obama, to let them know they can answer any stupidity Gloria Allred might push into the spotlight.
Ouch: Someone is claiming that Trump has gotten his hands on the divorce papers Michelle Obama prepared, but assumedly did not file.
Eesh. I don't know. This is harsh stuff.
I suppose one could say it's karma, given what happened to Jack Ryan.
But then, it opens the door for whatever stupidity Gloria Allred is cooking up.

Fox news had a poll on their web site asking people what their concern was and what would make them vote for Romney. They gave a bunch of choices. The economy was beating the rest by a country mile.

I don't think that Birther stuff retains any relevance to swing voters. Even if it's bombshell new information, that bloc of voters have been hit with so much crap about birth certificates from both sides that it's just random noise to them.
Hopefully if it's either one of these two, Trump will just stay quiet.
What might actually be politically useful?
If Trump has Obama's college applications, and if those applications show Obama having applied as a foreign student. There are really only two ways to parse such a revelation. Either it means Obama's not a natural born citizen after all, or Obama cynically and dishonestly gamed the system to get a leg up in academia. Neither would play well with the remaining core of persuadable swing voters.

I am not content to see him merely voted out of office. I want him and his cronies to go to prison. I believe honest investigations by the Justice Department will reveal that the crooks were running the government for the last four years, and that we will need to build new facilities to handle the overflow.

Yeah, this has a 99.99999% chance of having no effect. Barry's had the job for four years, it's not like one thing from before that will make any difference now. (In 2008, sure, maybe, but even then, Jeremiah Wright didn't torpedo him, so.)
Though, yeah, I *want* to see his transcripts and all that, just for the historical (and hysterical) record, but the campaign's a long slog that won't be won (or lost) by things like that.

A) He was an idiot college kid. W was a certified Alcoholic when he was in college. He got over it. No, this is not calling cocaine dealing the same as being an alcoholic, but rather referencing our national tendency to "let bygones be bygones."
B) For that to have done any good, it needed to be aired in 2008- when people were still trying to get a picture of this "blank slate" called Obama. He's not a blank slate anymore.
C) He freaking admitted cocaine use in his biography (also: that he ate dog). It didn't sway people then. People don't even believe he ate dog now.

I'm of the opinion that all this trivial stuff can only hurt Romney. He can come out against it all he wants, but people will associate these trivial things with him. Regardless, I don't think it will matter whether it comes out or not. I'd just assume it not come out whatever it is, unless it is something huge, which I doubt because it would have already come out.
I like Trump, but he is all about one person, himself. Nothing wrong with that, but he has nothing that could be of any real value to Romney.

In Klein’s book, called ‘The Amateur’, he claimed that Mrs Obama prepared the divorce papers to separate from the President in 2000 following his disastrous attempt to win a House seat in Chicago.
After he lost miserably the future First Lady was supposedly disgusted that her husband had put at risk their ‘stable and secure future’.
The book claims their marriage - in its eighth year at the time - was ‘on the rocks’ with Mr Obama so depressed some of his friends feared he was suicidal.
In the end Mr Obama ran for a Senate seat in Illinois and won it in, assuming office in 2005 and restoring her faith in him.

Something about corruption, or vote fraud.

Please no, I think this would backfire and make people feel bad for him. And I don't think Trump finds divorce to be much of a disqualifier either.

Today, the case of Dr. Michael E. Mann vs. The National Review and The Competitive Enterprise Institute was filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Dr. Mann, a Professor and Director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, has instituted this lawsuit against the two organizations, along with two of their authors, based upon their false and defamatory statements accusing him of academic fraud and comparing him to a convicted child molester, Jerry Sandusky. Dr. Mann is being represented by John B. Williams of the law firm of Cozen OÂ’Connor in Washington, D.C.

Why? Because as Repubs in IL know, a lot of really nasty stuff gets put in these things by mothers who want custody of their children.
Even before the actual child custody hearings, allegations like drug use, spousal abuse, etc, get thrown around in divorce proceedings, often with little basis in fact.
Obama was already losing, even before the selling coke thing, which won't help. This likely won't help either, unless it's a crude forgery a la the Dan Rather Bush Guard memos. Even then, Donald Trump isn't exactly CBS News, and Romney's staying well away from this, so it's hard to see there being much beneficial blowback to Obama.
Best case, Obama's losing 54-45 after all this, meaning he loses every swing state including MI and PA and maybe likelies such as WA and OR as well. Worst case, he's still losing 52-47 like he is today, and Romney's probably looking at a 300ish EV win.
Posted by: TallDave at October 23, 2012 12:29 PM (/s1LA)
Fucking not.
Bill's absolutely right. If it really is divorce papers, it will backfire badly. One of the best things we have going for us right now is that many people are now feeling it is safe to openly mock Obama. Putting this shit out there will insulate him from that mockery and make people feel sorry for him.
And please, Donald F'ing Trump is going to go sanctimonious on divorce? Really?

No one's surprised to hear it. From eye witness accounts, cocaine wasn't his only brain frying drug of choice.
He steals from everyone. In the Chicago winter, Obama turned the indigent black senior citizens out of doors to live on the street having destroyed their Altgeld Gardens public housing via union contracts to rip out everything with value, his lawyer associates pirating the tax funds to rebuild it. That's Obama's Day One of adult life. Hell. "Downright Mean." From Altgeld to spending his $16Trillion debt piled on our backs -- "social justice" making US citizens as slaves. Selling cocaine to consenting adults in college is the least of Obama's crimes against humanity.

Skepticism is best when accepting statements as factual from Douglas Kass. During the 80's he worked as a Registered Investment Analyst for a firm in Florida, and there was always some question about his veracity as an analyst.
Kass made equity recommendations to both retail and commercial clients. He was also discovered to have multiple Federal Tax Liens against earnings. Unable to manage his own assets, but willing to recommend to others. Unconscionable behavior.

I'm not that way. I'm a mean-spirited prick who want to see karma descend on Osama Obama like the proverbial ton o' bricks. It's payback time for all the lies, evasions, attacks on opponents and treason, baby.
As far as playing the game Obama's way "encouraging Gloria Allred," she doesn't need it. What she needs is attention, and a warm place in Democrats' thoughts. She needs to be a Hero for Wimminz.
So if Trump has film of the current White House occupant selling blow to his buds, Moo-Chelle's divorce papers or a photo of Newborn Baby Barack in his crib in Nairobi, bring it on! The more the merrier, and the more retribution dished out for past and current evils, the better. Anything that doesn't leave Obama walking out of the White House in tears as his co-conspirators turn their backs on him simply isn't enough.

It's always what's inside the papers. If Michelle was pushing for a divorce, she would have pushed for custody, she would have put reasons inside to disqualify him. That seems to be how the game is played when you're a malicious cunt from what I've seen of people going through similar situations.

Don't think this matters in the race for POTUS, I think the electorate broke for Romney a long time ago and the Obama Campaign knew about it before their convention.
However, if the revelation is bad enough, it could taint Zero's reputation as he becomes a private citizen once again. Drugs and divorce are not a big deal, academic fraud could be damaging, revelations about a closeted gay lifestyle could hurt too.
All in all, Romeny would be smart to leave this alone. I don't think this helps him because he two weeks away from winning. The only question now is by how large of a margin.

Drop divorce papers showing adultery or abuse by the man championing a war on women could get ...
If there's anything from verbal abuse, to habitual drug use, to general neglect, to anything which Michelle at one point claimed in the filing in an attempt to use it as leverage as a reason he should be disqualified from custody of the children, its game over.

Really, genius?
under assumption this is correct and Michelle claimed anything about his competency, drug use, unfit father, verbally abusive, etc. Obama's support is already falling away, he's in deep trouble when you look at the demographic and region support that's shifting to Romney.
If Obama loses even 2% of the married white women vote he's currently holding, this election is a route. The battleground states will all swing.
Posted by: Uriah Heep at October 23, 2012 01:12 PM (jhI6f)
...I am afraid we will lose the election.
This would be a disaster of the Nth degree. Anybody who thinks otherwise -- REGARDLESS of what allegations are contained in them -- is stuck in hyper-partisan mode.
The last thing Obama needs right now is something to shift the narrative away from "Romney is winning/Obama is collapsing."
I always thought Trump was a fucktard.

Yeah, and "business" considerations dictate that THIS NOT BE AN ISSUE.
WTF would the 'revelation' even be? That the Obamas had a rough patch in their marriage? Um...just like everybody else. It would make them seem more sympathetic, and human, and just-plain-folks AT THE EXACT WORST TIME.
I cannot honestly believe you would think this is a "good" angle to play.

Posted by: ChristyBlinky, unbanned, ready to get this done at October 23, 2012 01:19 PM (baL2B)
If I'm not mistaken, we were two of the only Romney supporters from the beginning around here. I'm hardly a hyper-partisan, I just disagree. It all depends what's inside if this is actually it -- Doug Kass is certainly connected in the fundraising networks.
-- If there is something tangible, the story is about what's inside the newly-opened box into Obama's past.
-- If it's nothing, the media will spin a meta-story, as you're noting, about the opening of the box itself.
Trump has been a team player thus far, the fundraiser networks and PACs all talk. As long as this isn't a totally rogue move, I'm willing to wager it's the former type of story.
Posted by: Uriah Heep at October 23, 2012 01:21 PM (jhI6f)
Romney would be best served to stay away from both of these stories. It's too late in the election cycle and these forays into the mud could turn away those undecided voters.
If Obama is desperate enough to take Allred's claims to the bank, let him. I think it would backfire on Obama.
Plus, Romney could come out and say "Remember those sordid stories about Obama? I didn't touch them."
Posted by: MacGruber at October 23, 2012 01:21 PM (xvtYZ)

A lot of people threaten their spouse with divorce. A lot of people get divorced. As if any Democrat or Independent is going to hold an unhappy marriage against a politician. How many Democrats and Independents stay married to their first spouse until they die? Sheesh, comparatively, how many Republicans do that?
That's a real deal breaker for all the undecideds. Pfft.
Hell, my younger sister "separated" from her spouse, took up with another man and moved out of state, and after a couple of years, returned to her no good husband. It "looked" better to church members who didn't know what a scumbag her husband is, fondling his daughter's privates. Decades later, kids grown and married, she's in the church choir, still married to the bum.
Social conservative issues don't matter to many besides social conservatives who aren't voting for Obama anyway.

Jack Ryan got no such sympathy when Obama unsealed his divorce records. And it would turn off blck voters (and Hispanic voters) in droves. LOL.
I never would have thought it would be divorce papers. It's just too funny if it is. Trump's full of surprises. And if it isn't divorce papers and Trump's got something else, it's been fun seeing these things floated in the press. From Barry-the-coke-dealer to Michelle wanting a divorce (probably cuz he's gay), it's schadenfreude.
I'm rubbing my hands in glee, not wringing them in fear.

I lived in Manhattan in 1981-83 when Obama was at Columbia. There was coke everywhere, and lots of people bought X amount, cut it, and sold some of the diluted product for extra cash and sometimes just to be sociable or cool. (Chicks liked the fact that some guys had coke to sell or give away.) We already know that Obama did coke; he admitted it. That he might have sold some wouldn't shock me, but it's not a big deal to me either. It was a different and, at least in my memory, wilder time. Unsubstantiated stories from thirty years ago aren't going to move any voters.
Now if someone has pictures of him with a rolled up twenty up his nose and a mirror on the table doing lines... that might be useful.
