— CAC Mitt, I know my state isn't going to vote for you. It won't even be close. But for the rest of the country, I implore you to come. Come to the Shell station on Olympic and Fairfax in Los Angeles, where the current price for regular is $5.09 a gallon. And rising.
Thanks to the California Air Resources Board, our gasoline is required to have "higher standards" than the other 49 states, and can be refined at only a few facilities. One of those facilities caught fire weeks ago, and without a backup plan, now we get to enjoy $100 fillups for fullsized cars.
This is what the rest of the country will look like if the genius ideas of the ARB spread via an Obama EPA. This is the end result of environmental idiocy and energy regulation. I give it four days before Angelenos quit visting my big rock on Wilshire and start trying to refine tar out of the La Brea pits.
Your visit doesn't even require a speech. The visit can be just you pointing at the (ever changing) price sign.
(On a positive note, I think Proposition 30 (Brown's genius tax hike) is going to lose badly with prices like this. Always an upside, even in hell I suppose.)

Copied from the thread below and pasted here, cause it's that good.
Re gas prices in CA, saw this from the Kos brain trust:
We have not built any new refineries in years. Refining capacity is a problem, we actually need our government to invest in building new refineries and perhaps lease them or use them as a pressure value to lower gas prices. We really need a government to act as a balance to the basic incompetence of the private sector in energy, we at some point will have a perfect storm of infrastructure failure and supply shortages that will cripple our economy.
Which garnered this response from a fellow juiceboxer:
if our govt is building refineries it should be for a nationalized public energy sector. the energy corps are rolling in money, and do not see the need to build or maintain their refineries. why should we build them for them?
Bless their hearts ....

Because nationalization worked so well in Venezuela, an oil producer that has to import their own gasoline

Yet they'll probably have no problem with Gov Moonbeam signing the Hollywood tax credit extension this week.
You know, those same Hollywood people who say they would pay more in taxes if the government would only tax them more?
For every dollar they spend on production in CA, they get a 25 cent tax credit.
What say you, Eva Longoria?

btw - paid $3.41/gal this am. GasBuddy(dot)com says the cheapest in the area is $3.35/gal.

Wow. It's like a name straight out of Atlas Shrugged.
And the saddest part about it, is that they see themselves as being ahead of the rest of the country - that the rest of the country will catch up with their wisdom someday.

Somehow we have to let the "low information voter" know that there is literally $2TRILLION sitting on the sidelines just desperate to be put to use (creating jobs, and an overall better standard of living).
It's waiting for TFG to leave office, because they are afraid of how their investment will be undermined - if not stolen outright - by him.

I bet that 99.9% of our top tier elected state officials have never been to more than 3 counties north of Sacramento - unless they happened to drive north on I-5.
I'll also wager they can't name a city within each of the counties bordering Oregon.

Of course, every last local libtard is blaming "oil company greed" for the high prices at the pump, instead of blaming Commiefornia's insane environmental laws and refusal to allow new refineries.
Those of you who do NOT live in Commiefornia, and don't want the madness to spread from here to where you live, should immediately get up off your asses and go volunteer GOTV for the GOP. Right away. Liberal Democrats got California into its current fix and they'd be just as happy to arrange the same fix for you. Don't let them.

Before Jerry Ford blew up his re-election hopes with his dumb comment about Poland in the debates, he did accomplish a few good things in office.
One of them was telling bankrupt libtard New York City to eff off, producing the classic headline, "FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD".
It would be gorgeous to read headlines two years from now saying,
"ROMNEY TO CALIFORNIA: BACK TO REALITY, BITCHES",
and
"RYAN TO ILLINOIS: THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BRINGING US THE SCOAMF"
A man can dream.

Um, how? The can be only refined at a couple refineries should be, IS ONLY REFINED. Once it is nationwide, all refineries will and a single fire will not cause a crisis.
Anyways, I think the emissions requirements are ridiculous, but at least make a cogent freaking argument that can withstand a minor amount of scrutiny.

runninrebel Hermosa/South Bay is still pretty conservative, no? That's why Sacramento keeps breaking different parts of it into different districts.
My friend lives in PV (Big Red) and they used to be in Dana Rohrabacher's district. Now they are in Waxman's and not happy about it. Incidentally she told me that Waxman is running quite a few ads on tv -- both pro-himself and attacking the other guy. It's probably nothing but if PV votes in full force? Nah, they still don't have as enough people to counteract the Westside.

Mary Nichols, the chairwoman of CARB and the most batshit crazy leftist on the board (which is saying something) was elevated to that post by the worthless piece of shit, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Der Groppenfuhrer is also the guy who ordered CARB to order the California utilities to get 33% of their power from "renewables", a.k.a. "expensives" and "unreliables".

13 times, nice (very very partial) round-up of some of the CARB's atrocities and idiocies.
Remind me someone, wasn't there a draconian unworkable insane diesel restriction pending and then the "science" on which it was based turned out to have a decimal point off - meaning an order-of-magnitude error? But it got better: the "scientist" of the CARB who authored the "study" turned out to be a fraud whose resume falsely claimed a science education. I am not kidding.
Oh - he WASN'T fired. I've spent time in the Third World and, earlier, in the Second (former Soviet Union). It is no exaggeration to say that I see s**t here that reminds me of stuff in those places/times - and this in a state that was run like a finely-oiled machine when I was growing up.
I can't see leaving CA (just got back after decades in the swamp of DC and in various s**t-holes of national interest around the globe). But I am too alienated, furious, and astonished to even have fun with it any more - like teasing "educated" friends into little traps to make them see how little of their own state's workings they have any understanding of.
I suppose I'll vote (propositions, of course) - but CAC, aren't the tax initiatives doomed anyway? Didn't the tax hike props back in 2009 (2007?) get smoked by "no" votes in the mid 60% range (very high for anything like that)?
