8 So CAC-- What are the counties you would watch in PA? PA use to be amazingly transparent for election results. Some of the counties I think Allegheny even break down to by precinct reporting. Of course none of the above applies to Philly.

13 Bottom right: DetroitPhiladelphia; top left: Erie; top-ish right: Scranton; bottom-ish left: Pittsburgh.

Pittburgh seems light-blue, so that's encouraging. Philadelphia is moribund and expected.

I didn't know Erie and Scranton were that bad, though . . .

15 A friend has a theory that some of the burn area counties around Philly might well be a good gauge of the whole shebang. *If* Obama loses the burbs by a significant amount.....so goes the rest of the country. Or at least that's the hypothesis.

16 Not a chance in hell. Pennsylvania is now what California was in the 1990s--a nostalgic dream for a rekindling of what once was. To chase it is to ensure defeat.

17 I've heard some people talking about recent elections in Alberta where the media polls had one party leading comfortably but another one took it. I'm not bothered if Obama continues to lead, but if Romney starts to lead I might be worried. >_>

18 FOX Chicago News reported the people living in the 17-floor Library Tower building at 520 South State Street were warned in a letter from condo management that “we are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find places to stay during the conference from May 18 through May 21.” The letter specifically warned of riots: “In the event of a riot or the potential of one near the building, all access doors will be locked including the garage door,” the letter continues. “For everyone’s safety, we will be instructing anyone in the building to stay in his or her unit.”

19 BTW, long-term, I'm predicting Pennsylvania and Michigan both to go to the GOP. Detroit, Flint, Philadelphia, Harrisburg are all of a piece; they're going to go bankrupt and the people who killed those cities are going to migrate to Georgia and Texas. They'll leave behind a wiser population.

34 Never have seen a poll I thought was worth a crap. Far to easy to influence the outcome of a poll just based on how a question is asked, what time of day you call, what part of the country you call, etc. Then to say that just because you got this result from 1 person means that a few thousand, hundred thousand or even million would agree is ludicrous. So personally I think polls are just a good way to generate surplus toilet paper.

109 Looking good. I think you can pencil in Butler Co in dark red. McCain ripped Obama and it'll be even better this time. Terrible demographics for the One.

I like that idea also.  It would cut out a lot of the extraneous bullshit like women's studies, or social justice law schools.

Apparently, Obama is taking aim at conservative run companies like McMillan, Gibson and others. And liberal run companies are getting huge hand outs. This country is going to hell in a liberal/fascist/communist handbasket

114 eh - my hypothesis is that it's because of the natural beauty. Places like Colorado and New Mexico and Oregon really are quite beautiful (the occasional shithole notwithstanding). So rich Californians visit, fall in love with the place, move there, and then want to turn it into their own little liberal utopia on a mountaintop. My prediction is that the next Western state that turns blue is Montana for that reason.

That's at least part of it.  I went to high school near Glenwood Springs, and we watched home prices rise as rich Californians and New Yorkers bought land further and further down valley.  They were buying second homes that they would spend maybe two months a year living in.

Long story short, I helped a buddy hunt down a dead skunk that had somehow made it into the house.

It was the day before his wedding and the reception was to be held on the property.

After about three hours we finally found it. It had fallen into the sump well and drowned. Mr. Tough Guy didn't want to touch it so I put a plastic Kroger bag on like a glove (didn't help) and tossed it in the back of the property.

That house stunk for about three weeks.

118 SCOAMF must have taken Marine 1 or whatever from DIA to Boulder rather than brave the traffic.   They had all little roads that went anywhere near the airport blocked off and I heard copter noise.    Yes there were a few liberal idiots waiting just to get a glimpse of the scoamf's ride.   Well possibly a few were more excited to see the copter but it is Boulder,  home of the trust fund babies and crony socialists.

Yeah, Soona.....I don't see the marketability of many of the bullshit degrees they are handing out these days.

Let's call it what it is......a government student loan program, which then 'forgives' the loans, is simply a government bailout for colleges. ....And a big fat enabling subsidy to the liberal professors who run them.

Posted by: wheatie at April 24, 2012 04:19 PM (O4AQQ)

121 Thanks Killjoy.  College rankings are bullshit.  I told my children "Whether you go to UCSD or San Diego State or Harvard or Community College, what you get out of it is proportional to what you put into it."

I regret that I didn't work harder.

Sarah Palin is much smarter than that Sinister Egotist Harvard Law graduate (Surrendered Law license) in the WH.

122 @116 Definitely. My sister is about one and a half years out of college and was employed for a while but is having trouble finding work now. In hindsight, she says a minor in computer science would've supplemented her information science degree better than a minor in African-American studies. >_<

125 Yeah, Soona.....I don't see the marketability of many of the bullshit degrees they are handing out these days. Lets face it, the only job your qualified for with most of these degrees is to teach a college course in your chosen major. In the real world most of these degrees aren't worth they paper they are printed on.

Posted by: StuckOnStupid at April 24, 2012 04:23 PM (R5yLq)

126 A minor in African-American Studies?  That might be good if her major was Sociology and she wanted to work as a "Community Organizer."

You can color Luzerne, Carbon and Monroe Counties blue, too.

PA is the 2nd most elderly state in the country. There's no way it's going red this year.

130 I recommend 2 years Community College and 2 years getting an associates degree for something that is in demand. My daughter never had trouble getting a job as a Hygientist and it pays well. The education didn't cost an arm and leg either.

133....Thanks, Ronster.

135...Lets face it, the only job your qualified for with most of these degrees is to teach a college course in your chosen major.

Which just perpetuates the absurdity, ad infinitum. ....As well as perpetuating the inbreeding that is going on within our colleges.....where the graduates turn around and begin regurgitating the same inane, brain-dead liberal drivel, to another generation.

The Community Colleges in my state are booming. ....They're great. And the graduates don't seem to have any problem finding jobs, either.

Posted by: wheatie at April 24, 2012 04:37 PM (O4AQQ)

133 140 - If I could do it over again... well, I'd probably shoot myself.  However, as an alternative to suicide, I would probably attend a community college for two years and get a trade skill.  I could still finish my undergraduate degree, but I'd be in a lot better shape than I am now.
