Con Air, In Space
— Ace

Kind of neat.

I like the hero's introduction -- he's 1, he's the best there is, but 2, he's a loose cannon.

They really say that.

Some writer really s t r e t c h e d his craft right there.

Essentially, an object from space crashes near the US/Canadian border. Because of reports of radioactivity, Homeland Security gets involved as the Canadians rush to find out what exactly came down.

Turns out to be a capsule. With a Russian on board, wearing an old style USSR space suit. He's in really bad physical shape, but has a note on him.

115 It's actually kind of sad how much of that movie we can figure out from the trailer. It's also sad how the premise is dumb enough to make me physically uncomfortable.

116 107 Interesting,I jjust assumed it was a sequel to the more recent version.Yes,the oldone is quite good albeit depressing in the end.

117 >>>I saw Nick Cage in the wickerman and it was the most painful movie I ever watched. I had been sucked in by the lying Hollywood promoters. I remember over hearing in the parking lot one guy say, "Does he even read the scripts?" before he makes a movie? Dude, Ace gave it 5 thumbs up and a 50,000 word review right here on the blog. Also, it was written and directed by Neal LaBute.

123 In case any of you are wondering, if I ever need to go into space, sneak aboard a hyper-security supermax prison in orbit to rescue you -for government pay - even at existing high civilian levels - that is not even the beginning of a simple thank you, that is only the petite bouche at the beginning of the simple thank you. I will still rescue you but I want you to know that before I show up and save your ass.

The Original "The Wickerman" is a great film. Almost a musical, in an odd way.

But never saw the re-make, after reading how bad it was.

Thinking on it a bit... You would NOT want guns with any type real velocity on a space station... and with all the Metal Around? even Tasers would be a problem as they'd short out electronics (and Tasers have to contact flesh to do any good, they don't penetrate any type of body armor..)

So... It would be Hand to Hand... and SWORDS in Space!!

Yep... Space Pirates! and Space Ninjas!!! (but of course, Pirates win because they are wayyyy Kewler...)...

Posted by: mike at January 28, 2012 06:28 PM (3JpQ0) nicholas cage is the chicken mcnuggets hooker of movie stars. even worse, once everyone knows you are desperate because you spent all of your money on bad real estate and comic related memoribilia, your negotiating power decreases dramatically. still worse, from what I hear, his wife is not the shy retiring type that just accepts nick is going to provide a rescued standard of living going forward; you can get a beating from your peers and critics or your wife big guy.

228 I 'action movie' speak Loose cannon means a guy who yells at his superiors and violates minot objectives to meet the main objective. The term really means thats someone is so reckless that he is as dangerous to his allies and he is to his enemies. In short he's a guy who has done stuff that got his partners and or his support killed. It's not a grudgingly positive term about someone being highly independent and thinking outside of the box rather than going by the book. It means the guy is a catastrophic fuck up and potentially a death sentence for those who have to work with him. A 'loose cannon' is NOT 'the best'.

239 This is why I'm building up my DVD library. So I can watch films that don't make my toes curl in sympathetic mortification for my fellow humans.

One of the best films made? Infamous (2006), about how Truman Capote charmed the hardassed, conservative Kansas cops investigating the Clutter murders, when Capote was writing In Cold Blood.

Incredible film, with about a $50 budget. A million times better than Capote, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, mostly because Infamous had a sense of humor and showed how a tiny gay man born in 1924 in Louisiana could be tough as nails but also hilariously funny, qualities that help anyone get through life.

And it had bright colors, not this dark-blue, high-contrast look that every fucking big-studio release has now.
