Confirmed: Chevy Chase Is a Self-Important Dickbag
— Ace

And it's not that he got into a personal spat with one of the only guys in Hollywood interested in giving him a check.

According to Deadline.com, Chase walked off the set on the last day of filming for one of his crucial scenes, which incited Harmon to roast the actor at the show’s wrap party — in front of Chase’s wife and daughter.

Harmon even encouraged the rest of the crew to join in a chant of “f— you” toward Chase, the site reports.

In response, the comedian left Harmon a fiery voicemail, calling the creator, among other things, “fat” and “an alcoholic.”

“I don’t get talked to like that by anyone. Certainly not in front of my wife and daughter you goddamn a—,” Chase ranted in a clip leaked online. “I’ve got nothing to say to you, except you can s— my c—. Is that clear?"

I'm pretty sure the walk-off was Chase's fault, but it's not even that.

It's this:

“I don’t think I’ll be back on this show again, frankly, between you and me,” he told the Huffington Post. “Depends on what happens. ... This is the only time I’ve ever had to act every week in the same clothes and as the same character, and I don’t find it particularly enlightening.

“It’s not teaching anybody anything.”

I liked Foul Play okay, but what was that supposed to teach me?

I'm pretty sure National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation didn't teach me anything.

Thanks to @rdbrewer4.

3 Haha, this is an old j'accuse for this guy.  He called me and my friends alcoholics, too (we were having some beers, in our own homes, while he made a movie there).  Apparently, HE couldn't keep his shit together and party, so he's one of the insufferables who go around telling other people what their problems are.  A complete fuckin' ass . . .

7 Chevy Chase never got over the fact that when he left SNL under the assumption that he was a new, major Hollywood star, he wasn't.  The mugging schtick got old fast, say in about 30 seconds.  Bill Murray owned Caddy Shack, while CC was just irritating.

11 Chevy Chase is a textbook example of the old AA saw that a drunk asshole who stops drinking simply becomes a sober asshole.  There's a lot more to this whole complicated thing, but he just doesn't get it.  His assholey behavior toward me was in the mid-80s (Fletch).  He apparently hasn't changed a whit.

17 It's a wonder that Dan Aykroyd didn't blow a gasket at the injustice of it all.  I mean, he was funny in a way the Chase couldn't even dream about.  Can anybody imagine CC doing the "BassOMatic" or Leonard Pinth Garnell?  All CC ever did was that insufferable mugging.  It made me want to reach into the TV and smack him.

Aykroyd got the last laugh though, since his career didn't crash and burn the way Chase's did.

38 I liked Chase as the fine actor/artiste that he was in Caddyshack. A) That was a looong time ago, and B) the cast and script made for the laughability and staying power. National Lampoon's original Vacation was goofy fun, too, but once again, the cast and writing had something to do with it.

Chase has been one of the most overrated, one-trick ponies in Hollywood. His range reaches all the way from mildly funny to sorta funny. If he has help. Otherwise, dreck. He has to have been the luckiest member to ever come out of SNL.

Tammy, Fletch's apartment was MY apartment.  They moved us out for 3 months, paid us bank, pissed me off, and my letter bitching about it was ultimately published in the Sunday Pravda (LA Times).  My neighbors were feeling a little left out, so I advised them to play their stereos really loud and let the production company pay them to turn it off.  Worked, too, lol!

Yeah, I knew that it was Hanks.  That was his breakout role.  I always felt badly for PS.  His career never really went anywhere after that.

Donna Dixon had what sounded like a bit of a speech impediment, so I suppose that's why she never really made it big either.  She was very attractive and she and Akyroyd have been together a good long while, now.  Good for them.  I think that's how you can tell the few decent people in HWood.  Someone else can stand to stay married to them.

Chase was on with Steven Spielberg, I think it was.  If it wasn't him it was another director of that same level of prestige.  And at one point Chevy Chase very belligerently says to this director: you're one of the people who are responsible for this degradation.

Everyone just looked at him with their mouths almost literally agape.  And the directors say: Me?!? You made National Lampoons Vacation!

Cut to commercial.

I thought Chase was drunk at the time, drunk and obnoxious and just s.t.u.p.i.d.

Weird thing is, Chase was hamming it up for a while on the phone, like it was a big goof... then his wife picked up the phone and went nuts, started screaming at him, then he started screaming at Stern, yelling at him never to call his house and bother his family again. Probably something similar happening here - this guy dissed Chase, and either his wife flipped out and drove him to lose it, or she's just driven his sense of humor out of him over the years.

The patent being asserted by Sewell and his crew is USPTO Patent #1,042,012, first granted to the American Mathematical Society in October 1912, subsequently renewed, then acquired by Apple at an unknown date.

Apple bought rights to a patent that irrevocably expired no later than 1929? Good business plan. Maybe I could get them to cash some canceled checks of mine.

The man – who was white and appeared to be in his 60s – was pulled from the Hudson River by the Coast Guard, brought to the 79th Street Boat Basin and strapped into a stretcher to be wheeled across the wooden pier. Emergency workers attempted CPR, but the man was unresponsive. The man was then loaded into an ambulance and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in cardiac arrest. He wore a wedding band on the ring finger of his left hand. The medical examiner will determine cause of death. The medical examiner will determine cause of death? 501 I agree with Hummingbird: Caddyshack was bad as a movie (even if this or that scene was amusing). There wasn't a story arc.

The best Chase movie was Christmas Vacation. Time was, our family would watch that annually on Christmas Eve.

Great film until SHE shows up, with her stupid doe-eyed ingenue look and first-grader-struggling-with a-new-reader attempt at dialogue.  I guess when you produce the film you can cast your bed-wench.

I guess when you produce the film you can cast your bed-wench." Hey - I liked that look! She looked really innocent, and had that milky-white skin with no imperfections. She was hot in that movie. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there for her. Eastwood's been casting his lovers for years. Check out his daughter - before she got tons of tattoos she was kinda hot, too.

Sometimes Jane, really, I don't think I can bear it. When I hear about these young men and their families left behind. Sometimes it's as if my heart will burst with the pain of it all.  Sometimes it just is too heavy for me to carry.  Sometimes I can't do it.

That's when I go to God.  God understands.  God watched His son die for others.  God knows what a heart feels like when it breaks.

That's how I know I can trust my own son in God's hands.  He's been there.  He knows.

So I tell God, "God, I can't watch my kid today.  I'm handing over to you."  This is the only way I can do it.

Our prayers are with your hero, Jane.   Bring them home now.   When we have our Afghan "allies" shooting our heros in the head, it's time to admit to our Western hubris, which insisted that all peoples want, and can handle, self-determination.   Well, obviously these savages can't, and are therefore unworthy of the oceans of blood and treasure expended.

May we learn our lesson and never again go to war without clear goals and an exit strategy.  And fuck nation-building.  I hated it when Clinton did it in Bosnia, and I hated it here.  The purpose of the military is to break things and kill people, not act like the fucking Peace Corps.   I'm a fan of the "rubble don't make trouble" school of warfare.  Hit them so hard that it'll take years for them to regroup, and let them clean up their own fucking mess.  If they act up again, hit 'em harder

548 #567 I found this, I hope it helps at least a little. The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass... He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't... Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here... They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod... As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God, "Step forward now you soldier, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell."

They are probably two of the best men I have ever known. I was telling them about how my brother came back with his psyche so wounded that he never recovered and spent the next 30 odd years drinking himself to death among other things. I asked them how they were different. They asked if he had a faith life......I had to say "no".

It was that awful talk show where Chase really bottomed out. He had spent a lot of time making fun of others doing that job and then discovered it was really hard work and required you to be genuinely likable. Craig Ferguson is no angel but he knows how to be friendly and engaging. Which was a surprise even to himself.

Spy Magazine long ago printed a story about the way William Goldman supposedly walk off of rewrites with Chase on 'Memoirs of an Invisible Man.' The quote was, "Chevy, I'm too old and too rich to put up with this shit."

Posted by: Fritz at April 01, 2012 07:42 PM (KWdVT)

562 Interesting that the worst element of an otherwise entertaining show is copping such an attitude. But then again, as the original SNL crowd have said, Chase was always an egotistical jackass. Also sounds like Chase is the quintessential Hollywood type - a little thin-skinned twerp that can dish it out, but can't take it.

Filling a familiar role, I'll jump in just before the lace wigs on this one and mull whether CC's grandfather passed on some traits.  Miles Browning , Adm. Halsey's chief of staff at the time of Midway (Halsey of course was in the hospital with dermatitis but Browning went along with Adm. Spruance, Halsey's replacement).  Browning was apparently over-bearing and volatile (managed to find time to bone another officer's wife during the still-interesting early years of WWII), and never really produced much, even though the Halsey connection kept in the mix through the end of the war, including command of the second Hornet.  His only daughter was CC's mother.

564 This is funny... Chevy Chase thinks acting is 'teaching' us rubes about .... well how ironic it is to be acting out a scene as someone else, when everyone knows its him doing it, or something.. nevermind

Chevy Chase is the male equivalent of the wannabe actress/whatever that will buy the "I'm a photographer with xyz, and we're doing nudes for an upcoming project! You want to be in it?"  and the chick responds with something pretentious like "well, yes!  I want to contribute to the ART of nude photography"

(because I secretly think that if I do this, I will be re-incarnated by people in the future because I was such an interesting person... and stuff.)
