Conservative Groups Out Raising Establishment Ones?

2013 political fundraising numbers out and outside conservative groups are doing very well.

Four Republican-leaning groups with close ties to the party’s leadership in Congress — Crossroads and its “super PAC” affiliate; the Congressional Leadership Fund; and Young Guns Action — raised a combined $7.7 million in 2013. By contrast, four conservative organizations that have battled Republican candidates deemed too moderate or too yielding on spending issues — FreedomWorks, the Club for Growth Action Fund, the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Tea Party Patriots — raised a total of $20 million in 2013, according to Federal Election Commission reports filed on Friday.

“This is by far the biggest nonelection year we’ve ever had,” said Matt Hoskins, executive director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, which has feuded with party organizations. “It shows how committed people are to electing true conservatives and to advancing conservative principles.”

Now when you add in the party committees like the RNC, National Republican Senatorial Committee, The Republican Governor's Association and the National Republican Congressional Committee, the "establishment" is going to have far more money.

The thing is the outside groups don't have to go dollar for dollar with the establishment ones because the outsiders are usually targeting their money to a few primary campaigns. The "establishment" groups have to spend money playing defense against the outside groups and the Democrats, so a 1:1 dollar match isn't all that important.

No wonder Team GOP types like to pretend that the Ted Cruz and Senate Conservative Fund types are only in it for the filthy money...they are losing their stranglehold on the life blood of politics and the poor dears don't like it very much.

Fun fact: Karl Rove's Crossroads fund only raised $6 million last year. Now, it's an off year after a Presidential year in which they raised hundreds of millions so maybe they backed off a bit to avoid donor fatigue and will ramp up this year. Or...people didn't like giving all that money with precious little to show for it.

Time will tell if it's a blip or the start of a trend.

But it's something these outsider groups should keep in mind...it's great to raise all this money but you can't be seen wasting it, either on non-candidate expenses or on races where you back too many loser.

Like anything else in life, if you want people's money, you better produce.

45 I sure hope this trend continues.. true conservatives rise and get descent funding to challenge the ruling class... but I'm cynical.  I think we're still a few years out or several from the ruling class vs normal citizens gets a footing.  Too many just don't know what they don't know.  Civics hasn't been taught for so long, it is taking time for youngers to teach themselves and get going as they are trying to get their lives going. 

I have hope for the future, but I'm setting low expectations for real movement prior to 2020 or so... when the libtards of the Watergate era are too old to govern.  I see that group of progressives and RINO's as the most injurious to progress towards putting things back the way they should be.

56 I think Rove had the lowest percentage of winners in 2012. Mark Levin has read his record on his show & it wasn't good, especially considering all the money he raised. I had to put a new roof on my home & can't afford to give to any, but if I did, it would be SCF. They have backed great candidates like Ted Cruz & Mike Lee. I think they backed Rand Paul, but am not 100% sure of that.

72 Don't give up on the party, take over the party starting on your local level. Get involved with a local Republican Liberty Caucus chapter, get to know which county GOP precincts are vacant or occupied by goobers, and take them away. Then you can start to control who goes to your state conventions. Stay away from platform committees and the like, however. The platform is meaningless. Once you're a party officer, you start to have some sway. Use it to help good candidates seek local and state office, and hold their feet to the fire.

But we took over our county organization with a small but focused effort between some Tea Party, 9/12, and libertarian/Paulian groups. It's still not perfect, but the establishment people have either dropped out of the party or moved on to other strategies. We need to help get the state GOP in order next, but I think we're already having an influence. This CAN be done. You need to worm your way into the local party along with some solid allies. And sometimes you need to be a bit clever as well. But it can happen.

111 Speaking of Chinese food, we're finally going to try a place in town that was recommended to us a couple years ago. First time we tried to go, it was Fourth of July and they were closed. The second time we planned to get take-out after a hike, but when we actually finished hiking, neither of us felt like it. This time I have to drive by the place anyway, doing the night shift (it will take 15-30 minutes at most) at the horse farm near the restaurant. So wife is coming with and we'll eat in. Does anybody really give a fuck? Why am I typing my kind of lame evening itinerary anyway? Oh, I know, to point out the folly of man. I dug around for 10 mins to find the menu from the place, in a drawer with a half dozen other Chinese menus, like it really matters which one I picked. They're virtually identical, always have been.

Don't give up on the party, take over the party starting on your local level. Get involved with a local Republican Liberty Caucus chapter, get to know which county GOP precincts are vacant or occupied by goobers, and take them away. Then you can start to control who goes to your state conventions. Stay away from platform committees and the like, however. The platform is meaningless.

Once you're a party officer, you start to have some sway. Use it to help good candidates seek local and state office, and hold their feet to the fire.

I'm out here doing just that, the Lord's work.  And, brother, it's a hard slog.  Our particular targeted committee is run by iron-fisted dons who play for keeps.  We just had a speech recently about former Rs being so disullusioned they're either staying home or going third party.  The prevailing thought seems to be that third party will take 10 years to get as powerful as the current Rs, but I dunno.

A good friend of mine almost won the commissioner role last election. He jumped as an Independent (he's a Tea Partier) and almost won... missed by 300 votes. He approached my uncle for advise and he told him to run as (R) for the support. Next election is already scoped out. We are taking over the GOP one election at at time.

He also is totally disillusioned by what America has become (he proudly volunteered in Vietnam to fight against godless Communism). So, in my cousins case, with his remaining years he's mainly devoted to advancing the cause of Catholicism. He looks forward to the day that America is majority Catholic. So he supports Amnesty for Mexicans and other Latin Americans. He opposes Amnesty for people from countries that aren't Christian and is lukewarm about it for people that are Christian, but not Catholic. He fervently hopes for the day when the Protestants and Orthodox are brought back into the fold of the Catholic Church. He was a super patriotic guy for most of his life. But he feels that America rejected him, so he rejected America. From his perspective he fought against godless communism and now America has twice elected a godless communist. So he said fuck that, and went from super America guy to super Catholic guy. He's not mean about it. He's a nice guy. But if you aren't Catholic he's gonna try hard to convert you. People need meaning. They want to belong to something big and important and transcendent. Something that will last long past their death. Something that shares their values.

I had a friend who was a pilot for many years and fainted in downtown Honolulu on the street. Some passerby told the emt's that he had a seizure. A full work up and years later - no sign of seizures. I got a glimpse of M240 in AIT, but I was humping the M60 my whole time in. The "Pig" was cumbersome, and didn't like blank ammo, but sung like a champ when you knew how to handle it. 258 I have been voting since I came home from overseas in 1970. In all that time I have voted for 2 democrats, Jimmuh Carter and Ralph Hall. I voted for Jimmuh when I lived in Georgia. I thought, 'heck, he's a farmer  who was in the freaking Navy, he'll be ok'. Kinda like saying 'hold my beer', I know. Ralph Hall is an ETEX legend who I voted for until I was redistricted (Louie Gohmert is my congressman now, and there is no better). And Ralph is a republican now. Here is how I morphed in 2008: Thompson-Romney-holding nose for McCain due to Palin.
2012: Perry Girl, big time to Romney (and do not, boys, get me started as I just met him this week and, wow, this country lost big time. I am never wrong when I meet people on character, and he is a guy I wish had just delivered the SOTU: humble, carried own bags, travels alone, friendly, etc).

I will vote for anyone: Rubio, my man for a long time. I can forgive his amnesty crap as I do think he and Ryan see the long picture I may not see. I confess to not completely understanding, but I do want them to pay taxes and am not for a lot of immigration stuff. But both of these guys are smart and well-spoken and Ryan did help the ticket with the younger crowd (per my sons, who are conservatives and vote GOP). I would vote for Perry in a red hot minute. I would vote, also, for Rand Paul. While I could scream like a freaking banshee when Huckabee plays his guitar, I would vote for him. So, no more of this GOP elite vs Conservative hooha. Get behind some dude and vote. I sure as hell don't want a rerun of 2008 and '12, with Limbaugh and others slamming whoever wins Primary, etc. as not being good enough until last moment.

While I keep praying for a miracle man (note I keep saying MAN, boys, as I want a male to lead this country...for the female Sec. of States have worked out so well with Putin and Mooslems), a complete new person that everyone loves and supports, I fear the same damn war between the "establishment" and the "conservatives." I am now on the "Anyone but Hillary" platform, or ABH.
