— DrewM 2013 political fundraising numbers out and outside conservative groups are doing very well.
Four Republican-leaning groups with close ties to the party’s leadership in Congress — Crossroads and its “super PAC” affiliate; the Congressional Leadership Fund; and Young Guns Action — raised a combined $7.7 million in 2013. By contrast, four conservative organizations that have battled Republican candidates deemed too moderate or too yielding on spending issues — FreedomWorks, the Club for Growth Action Fund, the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Tea Party Patriots — raised a total of $20 million in 2013, according to Federal Election Commission reports filed on Friday.“This is by far the biggest nonelection year we’ve ever had,” said Matt Hoskins, executive director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, which has feuded with party organizations. “It shows how committed people are to electing true conservatives and to advancing conservative principles.”
Now when you add in the party committees like the RNC, National Republican Senatorial Committee, The Republican Governor's Association and the National Republican Congressional Committee, the "establishment" is going to have far more money.
The thing is the outside groups don't have to go dollar for dollar with the establishment ones because the outsiders are usually targeting their money to a few primary campaigns. The "establishment" groups have to spend money playing defense against the outside groups and the Democrats, so a 1:1 dollar match isn't all that important.
No wonder Team GOP types like to pretend that the Ted Cruz and Senate Conservative Fund types are only in it for the filthy money...they are losing their stranglehold on the life blood of politics and the poor dears don't like it very much.
Fun fact: Karl Rove's Crossroads fund only raised $6 million last year. Now, it's an off year after a Presidential year in which they raised hundreds of millions so maybe they backed off a bit to avoid donor fatigue and will ramp up this year. Or...people didn't like giving all that money with precious little to show for it.
Time will tell if it's a blip or the start of a trend.
But it's something these outsider groups should keep in mind...it's great to raise all this money but you can't be seen wasting it, either on non-candidate expenses or on races where you back too many loser.
Like anything else in life, if you want people's money, you better produce.

Hmmmmm....
"Rubio would face the difficult choice of whether to opt for a presidential run when it could cost him his Senate seat. Florida law does not allow Rubio to run simultaneously for the Senate and the White House in 2016, when his seat in the Senate is up."
If, as is distinctly possible, the Republican candidate is going to get buried anyway by Team Cankles, metaphorically or otherwise, letting the Mailbox Head go up against her at least gets him out of the Senate.
It ain't much, but it's something.

Karl Rove is the 'Architect' of two nail-biting wins for Bush over weak, deeply flawed Democrat candidates in 2000 and 2004, the genius who oversaw the loss of congress in 2006, the man who helped blunt the Tea Party surge in 2010, and the guy who wasted $300 million in 2012 losing to a party with the worst economic record in decades. In a narrow unpredictable squeaker both times.
If the legal eagles had ruled slightly differently in 2000, or if Lurch Kerry's wife hadn't pissed off a chunk of the black Democratic base in 2004, those very close elections would have sent Rove's candidate home emptyhanded.
Not to mention what happened AFTER Rove's candidate got in via photo finish. The "Republican" who Rove elected and re-elected so precariously did colossal damage to the cause of conservatism and to the GOP brand with the public, and via those failures paved the way for the rise of Obama.

Don't give up on the party, take over the party starting on your local level. Get involved with a local Republican Liberty Caucus chapter, get to know which county GOP precincts are vacant or occupied by goobers, and take them away. Then you can start to control who goes to your state conventions. Stay away from platform committees and the like, however. The platform is meaningless.
Once you're a party officer, you start to have some sway. Use it to help good candidates seek local and state office, and hold their feet to the fire.
*waves hand*
I'm out here doing just that, the Lord's work. And, brother, it's a hard slog. Our particular targeted committee is run by iron-fisted dons who play for keeps. We just had a speech recently about former Rs being so disullusioned they're either staying home or going third party. The prevailing thought seems to be that third party will take 10 years to get as powerful as the current Rs, but I dunno.

I think this is actually understandable. I would guess the thinking is the press would, as agents of the progressive movement, eat him alive if he tried it.
I am not saying this is the tactic I approve of, merely looking inside their thinking as it were.

Alright, speedy. Funny is sometimes funny.
But ever post that again and I will personally contact Jester, hunt down your IP, find your house, duct tape you and place you in the trunk of a '79 camaro.
Then I'll drive you out to the desert where I'll make you dig your own grave, hold a Sig P229 to your forehead until you wet yourself.
Then I'll get back into the camaro and let you walk home.

It may be that the perceived wisdom is that Republican primary voters like tough candidates that are willing to take the fight to the other guy, but, the voters in the general election, especially those in the much sought after middle, like a nicer, warmer candidate who isn't so nasty.
That's not what I want, but then, I'm not in the mushy middle.

basically, we wear unit patches. 79th this, 23d that. But once in the field all that shit comes off and is replaced by home state flags, and other patches.
Just a thing. Hit the link. You'll see.

Bob Dole has never felt better. And Bob Dole wants you to know that he's ready to take on that whippersnapper Jeb starting now. Bob Dole, the choice of a new generation.

Every time I see a Bob Dole sock, I think of Norm MacDonald's impersonation from SNL many moons ago. A presidential ballot cast for Norm under a platform that he stay in character for the full term would be more appealing than a vote for Jeb!.

I could be mistaken, and I did not think of this above, but Rove did not actually run Romney's campaign.
There is no doubt, however, that we have not had an effective spokesman for conservative thought running of office in too long.

The RNC is a dead organization. While working in a state republican org in '11, '12 and '13 (and attending the Tampa convention where RP got shafted - I am not fan - but he DID get shafted, the internal machinations were disgusting) I discovered that the stereotypes are mostly true: about 95% white, mostly men, average age over 70. Just a bunch of old namby-pamby luddites, still fighting the good fight from 1968. And they.are.clueless.

I think this goes back to not wanting to come across as mean, or be portrayed as such by the media. Remember, they are the enemy just as much as the progressives.
Again, not saying this is the best strategy, just peeking into their thinking.

Here is how I morphed in 2008: Thompson-Romney-holding nose for McCain due to Palin.
2012: Perry Girl, big time to Romney (and do not, boys, get me started as I just met him this week and, wow, this country lost big time. I am never wrong when I meet people on character, and he is a guy I wish had just delivered the SOTU: humble, carried own bags, travels alone, friendly, etc).
I will vote for anyone: Rubio, my man for a long time. I can forgive his amnesty crap as I do think he and Ryan see the long picture I may not see. I confess to not completely understanding, but I do want them to pay taxes and am not for a lot of immigration stuff. But both of these guys are smart and well-spoken and Ryan did help the ticket with the younger crowd (per my sons, who are conservatives and vote GOP). I would vote for Perry in a red hot minute. I would vote, also, for Rand Paul. While I could scream like a freaking banshee when Huckabee plays his guitar, I would vote for him. So, no more of this GOP elite vs Conservative hooha. Get behind some dude and vote. I sure as hell don't want a rerun of 2008 and '12, with Limbaugh and others slamming whoever wins Primary, etc. as not being good enough until last moment.
While I keep praying for a miracle man (note I keep saying MAN, boys, as I want a male to lead this country...for the female Sec. of States have worked out so well with Putin and Mooslems), a complete new person that everyone loves and supports, I fear the same damn war between the "establishment" and the "conservatives." I am now on the "Anyone but Hillary" platform, or ABH.
