— CAC Since PPP decided it can't help itself, I've done you all a service.
I went through their ridiculous R+9 sample and ONLY changed the D/R/I proportions to match previous elections, and an even turnout.
With R+9, PPP's headline screams Akin up by 1. It is an obvious, sick ploy to get this delusional Bio101 flunkie to stay in and cost us a seat.
Here are the real numbers:
If turnout in November matches 2008 (it won't):
McCaskill 49.25% Akin 39% (this is a D+6 turnout model)
If turnout in November is even, an incredible feat for the GOP considering heavy turnout in St Louis and Kansas City during an election year:
McCaskill 47% Akin 40%.
If turnout in November matches the best we have ever seen in the state (R+3 during 2010):
McCaskill 45% Akin 41%.
McCaskill is a dead duck if we dump Akin. The other candidates from the primary were crushing her up and down. To trail her by four in a best-case scenario is inexcusable at this point.
The fact that PPP had to triple the best R margin ever just to get Akin over McCaskill screams agenda polling, but they will never admit to that, so I'm calling them out on it, and it's time for you to spread the word. PPP's "Akin still leads" poll is garbage, the approval rating for Akin with this huge R spread is a God-awful 24%, and McCaskill hasn't cut one rape ad yet.

I want you not to have said something so stupid that you'd need defending.
Looks like neither one of us got what we wanted... but if you leave now maybe we'll end up with a candidate who can get through the rest of the election cycle without saying more stupid crap.
Lets try that and see how it works.

9% GOP bonus huh PPP?
My Huckabee rage is hyperbolic, but the donk agenda and game with the open nomination process is real.
Akin needs to go or we need to choke off his GOP backing and cut a deal with the libertarian. The problem is we may hurt the party in MO a long time if he forces that. Akin is in "matter of religious principle" mode which means he will not budge.
The asshole is hiding from GOP contact, so he is either that selfish or is in on it.

During his 2008 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney welcomed the endorsement of a pro-life doctor linked to Rep. Todd Akin’s widely condemned statement that “legitimate rape” rarely leads to pregnancy.
Dr. John C. Willke is a leading proponent of the view that women are unlikely to become pregnant by “forcible rape,” a theory he laid out in a 1999 article on the subject.

Even if the right people are talking with Akin right now, this is going to take a little time.
Akin isn't independently wealthy. Whatever the deal being put together is, they will need to have some place for him to land that pays roughly the same or a bit more than his congressional salary.
His campaign debts will need to be covered and probably one or two of his key staff will need offers to go somewhere else. Lots of calls are probably in the works. Akin is in a fairly good position to get a decent deal.

Reposted from last board, since a new thread went up.
My goodness, some on this board, think it is just easy to force someone out. Newsflash - politicians act in their own self-interest and go on suicide missions all the time. Working against us in this case is Akin's age. If he were 50, then you could probably convince him that he still has a career. But he probably thinks this is his last real chance. And he has the ego to think he can win. In fact, I think there still may be a chance he could.
But it isn't that simple. He is the onlyone who can make the decision. Regardless, I see plenty of political upside.Mitt can show that he is standing up to the so cons, withoutoffending the so cons. That'ssomething. Obama has shown no ability touse a perceived advantage for his benefit. Why should we assume he will automatically do so here.
And if we were counting on this seat to give us control of the Senate, then I guess we aren't doing as well as I thought. I thought the idea was to win up to 55-58 seats? Every last seat matters, but I hope this seat isn't the one that tips us from 50 to 51. If that is the case, then we need to look at the whole senate campaign and not just this race.

If this guy stays in, he is not only stupid, he is dangerous; chock full of delusions of his own grandeur.
It's not what he's said that is scary. It's not his stupidity that is scary.
It's that he thinks he is doing God's work that is scary. That is dangerous. Deadly dangerous, as is shows him to be a man to willing to sign off on any number of evil schemes and plans in the name of doing good. Overtaken by the notion that God has selected him. Rather than the humility that God has no need of man to do His work.
This is a guy after that evil of Huckabee, who let convicted murders out early--despite the likelihood they would kill again--because he thought himself qualified to judge for God whether the man had repented and would sin no more.
An arrogance from evil consumes men like Huckabee and Akin.

CAC..PPP was dissed the minute it came out...can you believe someone like Akin will believe it...YES....it gives him the delusion to believe....I mean his poll readers must be totally stupid!! Oh yeah Todd that PLUS 9 Repub sample had nothing to do with it and it is not even close to reality. BUT TODD IS NOT IN REALITY!! That is the problem....he will no go....he is another in a long line of conservatives that are fatally flawed. He is staying and taking all the misery with him. PPP gives him a joke of a cover. Sorry CAC but time is passing and nothing is being heard from Akin. His ad sumed up his position...he thinks this will blow over because like I said he is fatally flawed. Obamacare I am afraid is here to stay! We have taken the easy seat pick up for Rs and thrown it back to Dems...people better realize that this seat was an easy pick-up now a disaster...We need to realize Government Run Healthcare is here to stay and America died another fatal blow. We can complain here all we want but it means nothing.
Conservatives are the majority ruled by the minority. We allow this every election when we refuse to get behind one candidate and 90 percent of the time the worst ones wins and then they lose in the General. We have to love with the consequences. Our liberty is under attack, our way of life, our freedom, our love of country and what do we do....keep attacking each other over 3 candidates splitting the vote and the worst one wins. Then we sit back and watch them get crushed and Dems rule and we are RULED!!
Get ready today is another dark day for America. Claire will win if Akin is left and we know he will not go on his own. Claire is the happiest woman alive and millions of conservatives have seen the future take a turn for the worse and we are powerless to do anything about it except come here to the Web and vent...sad indeed....ONE MAN....destroying the future for millions!! Only in America!

BTW:
115.359. Withdrawal of candidacy, deadline for, how made.
Any person nominated for an office who wishes to withdraw as a candidate shall, not later than the eleventh Tuesday prior to the general election, file a written, sworn statement of withdrawal in the office of the official who accepted such candidateÂ’s declaration of candidacy.
So he has to file a written and I assume notarized statement at a specific office. He just can't say "No Mas" and ankle.

We need to pick up 4 seats.
We will lose 1 in Maine
We will hold our most vulnerable in Mass.
We will pick up seats in Florida, Nebraska, Virginia, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. That's the 5 we need right there.
Any scenario that involves us losing any of those seats also includes Obama winning, so the Senate is moot. The Ryan pick guaranteed that Nelson and Obama will either win together or lose together in Florida.
We also have a chance to pick up Hawaii, New Mexico, Montana, and some folks think even Michigan might be in play.
Yeah, it sucks to lose this race, but it isn't the end of the world. If we lose the Senate in November, then the country was over anyway, we are just the last to know. I think that even with ClairBear holding her seat, we will still net 7 seats. The Dems just have too many to defend.

Thanks. I needed that. Interesting state guidelines.
Given the preexisting 2012 Democrat mantra "Republican War Against Women," Akin needs to withdraw himself in order to prove that the 2012 elections are not all about him. Cutting him off might yet happen. The Republican Party and the American People would be better served without Akin & Morons, Inc. (that includes McCain, et al., as "rape" happens in all fashions).
Akin can always try to stay in local politics if his constituents really want him around. If not, destructive parasites need removal. "Ask" him to drop out. If he doesn't, purge him.

Hello, all! I'm choosing not to comment on the Akin thing because it gives me heartburn, and I've got a rosy sunburn already from the Romney/Ryan town hall yesterday here in NH. I'm trying to hold on to my sunny optimism from the latter.
Can we discuss the Drudge headline about Biden showing up in Tampa at the 'Pub convention? Because that just seems... odd. Maybe it's not; I admit I rarely pay attention to the conventions, so I don't know if it's typical for the sitting VP to turn up at the site of the opposition's convention. But it just seems strange to me, particularly given Biden's gaffetastic performance of late.

Akins communications director is his 24-year-old son.
She called them and asked them why in the heck Akins went on Jaco's show (a know ultra-leftist who is desperate to get back in mainstream news and was guaranteed to ask embarrrassing questions). The answer was "He was fair to us in the primaries." Yeah, proving they didn't learn the lesson of John McCain and that they knew zip about Jaco.
His district is and has always been safely GOP, so he has never had to run a competitive campaign.
When this first came out she thought it would blow over. Now she thinks that it won't (and partly she says because of all of the conservative press grabbing pitchforks and torches and making it worse - her words, not mine).
Problem is that no one has name recognition if they can get someone to step in. The runner up, a business guy, is inexperienced in politics and Steelman has some baggage and is very weak in verbal skills.
Missouri GOP will decide. She thinks they will go for a woman, IF the woman will do it. Ann Wagner who is well-known in GOP circles might, but she would have to withdraw from her race for Akins old seat.
End of reporting.
And now I say, what a mess, and why don't we have people to train new candidates so they won't say stupid stuff?

I have to admit that the nonstop barrage of Akin-related posts is very similar to the nonstop barrage of Herman Cain-related posts back during his "sexual harrassment accusation" days. In other words, it's very draining. Not that it's not important, and I agree that Akin has to go, but a thread on an unrelated topic would be a nice change of pace. No one says it's the end of the world. It's just very bad for our side.
Honestly, I get why Akin is too narcissistic to drop out. He's narcissistic and clearly stupid. I'm shocked that people are defending him and saying it's the media's or the left's fault, like they don't understand how this game is played.
It scares me that some of us can be just as stupid as Akin.
But, no, it's not the end of the world. Perhaps the end of our hopes of repealing Obamacare (or at least made it signicantly more difficult), but not the end of the world.

2 Remove any future help for your Congressional election (I'm not sure if he is retiring from Congress or running in a safe district)
3 Black list every single one of your campaign staff so that they never work another campaign.
4 Push a write-in candidate like Steelman or Brunner. Whoever.

Beyond the fact that you're wrong, CAC used Mo. numbers, Missouri *is* historically quite representative of the United States as a whole. Until McCain narrowly beat Obama in Missouri in 2008, whoever won Missouri won the presidency in every election for a 100 years or something like that. It really is a bell weather state.
Face facts, there is absolutely zero fucking chance that Akin beats McCaskill now. None. He probably can't even carry the Springfield/Joplin area now, which are pro-life bastions because of the ham handed approach he took. He's going to get massacred amongst the moderates in Kansas City and suburban St. Louis, absolutely destroyed.
And, just for the record, I am strongly pro-life. I used to be a rape/incest exclusion type of pro-lifer, but years ago I was persuaded....by a very intelligent Jesuit, not by a dipshit like Akin. There are persuasive arguments for his position, Akin just doesn't have the smarts to deploy them. When you are running for Senate, it doesn't matter that your heart is in the right place, your head has to be working on all cylinders as well.

Yes unfortunately i do.
The media will focus on the war on woman to drive enough % down for romney support and the lack of air time to romney ryan because this shit will consume all the oxygen will slow their momentum even potentially reverse it long enough to make it impossible for them to gain enough traction in swing states come november.
Obama doesnt need a landslide, he just needs to hold some of what he got last time.
This gaffe machine feeds the narative. The narrative drives the coverage. The coverage affects the voters.
A war on women enrgizes rabid lib females who might be tired of obama to actually go out aond vote when they werent planning to show up.
There are no wins for our side with Akin staying in.
All the pluses are for the dems.
If we dont control the senate and the presidency we are fucked. You will not repeal obamacare after 2014 when it kicks into full steam.
You will not control the Supreme court if obama gets even 1 more pick on it.

To me it is simple. I've been saying for 2 years now that Obama is unelectable.
We either have a country where the polls are correct that abortion is dead last in importance this cycle, or we already lost the election, and we were going down with or without Akins' idiocy.
Missouri is not make or break for winning the Senate. Go back and look and try not to be mathematically challenged. The Dems are defending *22* seats, we need to pick up 4 (or 3). We had a realistic shot at picking up 8 or 9, now it's 7 or 8, with 5 of those being pretty much a slam dunk.
The War on Women, was going to be the Dems big campaign theme anyway, you think they weren't going to roll this stuff out against us in the fall anyway (with full throated MSM assistance)?
If the country is going to vote to keep 10% unemployment and a universally disliked piece of legislation known as Obamacare, over insinuations that some moron in Missouri is representative of our candidates because they are in the same party, then the country was lost anyway.
Use your brains.
If at the end of the day, Akins' loss keeps us from winning the Senate, it will be moot, because Obama will have won. Or we will have a lot more people to bitch about running lousy campaigns than this guy.
The more I hear about this, the more I think we lucked out and uncovered a Dem dirty trick early enough to defuse it.

Exactly my point, as well.
But I'm not surprised how backward the local politicians can seem to a nationally homogenized audience. (Remember the trouncing given the Palins from Republican Noonan-Cheney-Bush insiders, every bit as cruel by nuance as the vicious Democrat attacks.) You'd think the country club party wouldn't exhibit throwbacks for votes. Smug elitists don't need training, and aren't about to open the door for wannabes. So why would the RNC have a program in place, a clinic for novice national candidates? Why would the Republican Leadership want to be tainted by having associated, even in a clinical setting, with "unproven" novices? Palin, for example, could take on that challenge if she's dissatisfied only playing the cheerleader, and wants to prove effective organizational skills while benefiting new candidates with "basic training" in public decorum discussing the Republican agenda. This is really a state Republican Party responsibility. The Tea Party candidates, at least, have learned that the Republican Party is not supportive of States Rights. It was founded to make the federal powers excessive leading through the Civil War. All talk to the contrary is condemned as "looney". Of course, the Democrats and Progressives have merged with Marxists to destroy sovereignty, the latest abuse dissolving all Rule of Law, aided by previous Republican administrative legacies since Reagan's assassination attempt.
That was then, this is now.
Beyond proving how far stupidity permeates the Republican Party, Akin illustrates the lack of Republican Leadership and ORGANIZATION, the lack of coordination, the tenuous if not absent party agenda which yet remains nebulous.
Build the platform first. Then candidates AND voters know what it is they stand on.
WE BUILT THIS

Looks like Claire's ace in the hole isn't answering his phone:
"The national Republicans are feeling a little frustrated. not only do they not
have any persuasive arguments that have worked so far but theyÂ’re having trouble
finding him or reaching him. TheyÂ’re not in dialogue with him as they might be
with a normal party nominee. For a lot of them, the key is Mike Huckabee.
HuckabeeÂ’s endorsement probably did a fair amount to get him the nomination in
that three-way fight and heÂ’s seen as a possible bridge, if heÂ’s willing to, to
go to the Congressman and say, look, you got to get off this. ItÂ’s increasingly
likely, despite, Joe, your prediction and mine from earlier, that theyÂ’re not
going to get him out today. HeÂ’s got a poll that heÂ’s touting to people that
shows the race is still close. he wants to put this new ad on the air that shows
him apologizing profusely. And so, they canÂ’t reach him, they donÂ’t have any
good arguments, and heÂ’s determined to fight on. "

The Dems are already using Akin as an "example of how Republicans think".
This is *not* about just one Senate seat in Missouri.
The Dems will make sure of that.
Akin has given them a huge gift.....that they will use in every race across the country.

I think "Well I'm sorry" is what got all those rapists out of prison while Huckleberry was governor, so it's bound to work on him for Akin.

A Missouri GOP consultant e-mails that Ann Wagner, currently the Republican candidate in Todd Akin’s congressional district, may trade places with Akin. “The buzz today is there is a last-ditch effort underway involving a swap with Ann Wagner,” the consultant writes. “Wagner is the nominee for Akin’s old congressional district and has long standing connections with many on the state committee given her deep involvement in the Party on the state and national levels. This allows a woman to replace Akin, which almost all agree is the wisest choice and gives Akin an opportunity to stay in public office by running for re-election.”

Then, while not busy tipping over Jap model cars, a bunch of Chinese activists tried to land without permission and got arrested by the Japanese.

The issue here is that Akin staying in DOES demoralize conservatives. It means we have discussions about how we're not all rapists all the way up until election day. AND it fires up Dems- gives them something to talk about.
Dems will hop on absolutely anything even mildly negative and turn it into a firestorm. This is not new.
And if someone were to ask me, "Oh, you vote Republican? That means you support rapists!" my simple answer would be, "Don't be absurd, you regressive assclown."
As I always say, don't accept the premise. The regressives and their media fuckwads are bullies; you declaw a bully by dismissing their tactics as childish. Freaking out like this is the end of the g-ddamn world not only buys into the premise, it makes it seem like the premise is legitimate. Sorry, not doing it.

Posted by: entropy at August 21, 2012 01:08 PM (TULs6)
I believe the Chinese activists landed there first, and the Japanese activists landed there in subsequent days in counterprotest.
Just days before the Japanese group's landing, five Chinese activists went ashore on the island on Aug. 15 — the anniversary of Japan's World War II surrender. The five and nine others were arrested and quickly deported back to Hong Kong. (From Yahoo! News: http://news.yahoo.com/activists-ante-china-japan-isle-dispute-040046572.html)
But who started it really is neither here nor there. China/Japan relations have been simmering near the boiling point for a while now. I don't see it going well, particularly if China's economy starts to collapse like the paper shell it is and they decide a little armed conflict with their hated neighbor would be a good way to distract the masses.

I don't see that.
If China is gonna start making a fuss (by which I mean invasion of other countries) they ain't gonna start with Japan.
To the extent there is simmering and boiling relations, good. Maybe the Japanese will get off their ass and get more serious about national defense. Animosity toward China can only drive them further toward us.

Great point. The above sentence from you I quoted is why the defenders of Akin are as delusional as him. This is how it will be portrayed and how it will be attached for every Republican candidate, including Romney and Ryan. In what is expected to be a close election, you are fuckin' delusional if you don't think it could tilt the results of the election (Presidential, House, and Senate) to Democrats, especially in certain key swing states.

All sperm in the vajay-jay must pass by the three-headed dog Cerebreus on it's way to the magic candy-cane forest. Nice sperm will ride a marshmallow down the chocolate river to the tunnel of love. Naughty sperm will be directed to the taffy swamp and get stuck! Wow!

So don't mind me if I continue to hate Mr. too-legit-to-quit. He's a self-serving bastard for staying in.
Yep. And he's going to be the thousand pound albatross around the neck of the Republican party. It's already starting....I believe there are already a number of stories out this morning trying to tie Akin to Romney...Ryan...the RNC. The left, through their lapdogs in the MSM already have too much power in defining what the news is...and whether Akin is truly sorry, or is guilty of nothing more than a few badly chosen words...they will use this against Republicans all the way through November.
We certainly can't force him to quit...but we can damn sure reinforce the fact that almost every Conservative voice out there, (Other than the amazingly tone deaf Huckadoodle), have condemned him for his remarks, and/or urged him to drop out. It's not the best possible hand of cards we could have been dealt...but since the jackass seems inclined to remain in the race, we have to make of it what we can.
