Democratic Polling Firm PPP: Romney 49, Obama 47
— Ace

A few notable things here beyond that.

Obama's favorable/unfavorable is underwater, 47-49. Romney's is above water and ahead of Obama's: 50/45. With women he's 47/47. Obama's well underwater with men, though, 41-55.

I am a convert to believing favorability might be the single most important number in a poll. I suppose it's not as important as the head-to-head. But it's close.

Obama's job approval is 45/51.

Now, among Independents: Mitt Romney has a fav/unfav 50/45. Obama's fav/unfav among independents is way underwater, at 42/51.

And Romney leads in independents, 50-41.

The only age group Obama leads with is 18-29, and that's not even by 2008 level margins. Just 51-38. So a majority have decided to support him-- barely. Who knows where the 10% undecided will go.

So, it's a pretty good poll for Romney. Not only is he ahead, but he seems to have more upside. If you think your favorability sets your upper bound of support -- people who favor you might support you; if they have an unfavorable impression of you, they almost certainly won't -- then Obama seems to be butting up near his maximum level of support, while Romney could still grow a few points.

PPP holds out hope that the debate, which they think Obama won, will change things. I don't see that happening. Quite the opposite. The big card Biden repeatedly played on Ryan -- often as a buffoonish nonsequitor -- was, "What, so you want to go to war with everyone?"

I'm pretty sure Romney successfully presented himself as a non-Dr. Strangelove candidate.

96 FYI for an incumbent job approval is the key metric, not favorability. To discuss a PPP poll without mentioning the obvious donkeys in the room -- oversampling of Democrat demographics; undersampling of Republican demographics -- cognitively is dissonant. All polling services -- left, right and center -- are saying that Romney substantially is ahead with Independents. Ergo it's impossible for Romney to be behind in the overall popular vote. Not unless you believe in unicorns. Still plenty of work to be done, though. It's not inconceivable that Obama could win the Electoral College even with Romney up 2-4 points in the total vote. OH is critical. There will be a zombie apocalypse in Cleveland. Although based upon several generations of of electoral history Romney won't do worse in OH than he does nationwide. If we take FL, OH and VA as givens -- and obviously the McCain states plus IN and NC -- Romney still needs to win one more state. Doesn't matter which, but he needs to do it, not merely to talk about it. IA, NH, CO, WI and NV are viable options. Conservatives need to clue in and vote, en masse. It's really that simple.

I'm with you.  I would not be surprised to see an 8-9  point victory.  Traditionally,  America  punishes  Presidents/parties  who have failed domestically.   The Dems were punished in 2010  and nothing has improved.  Obama will be punished in November.  We  are accustomed to thinking that the electorate is extremely polarizing.  But maybe 2000 and 2004 were aberrations.   There is a potential for a  huge  victory here.  That being said, I think it will likely be a 4-5 point victory.  Either way,  Obama is gone.

Amazing how wrong Team Obama has been about their debate strategy. Team Romney never took the bait to engage on Obama's talking points. Romney graciously conceded Bin Laden, then attacked that Obama's strategy is ineffective and refocused on future threats and preparedness. Completely substance-less response, per usual.

Russia is a huge thorn in our side in the Security Council and in Iran and other assorted hot spots around the Middle East. Even China isn't as bad, although they may just be getting warmed up in their regional ambitions. At least we have a lot of trade with China and since they are a big commodity importer, they don't stand to gain as much from causing global chaos as the Russians do, being big energy exporters. Plus, China can't fuck Europe as hard as Russia can, like when they threatened to cut off natural gas supplies to Germany during one winter unless they got their way.

I really don't see anything incorrect with Romney's assessment of Russia as the biggest potential and actual threat to the US. Hell, behind Pakistan, Russia is also the most likely source of a loose nuke falling into Al Qaeda's hands.

There are magnesium alloys that aren't especially flammable. That said, GM hasn't really gone all-in for aluminum yet, which also delivers weight savings without some of magnesium's drawbacks.

What will have to happen first to meet the CAFE scam is deletion of a lot of features the public considers essential today: power assists, fancy trim, all-wheel drive systems and size (I'm talkin' to you, SUV owners) all add weight, which sucks fuel.

For that matter, a lot of the pork in greeeeen!!11!! cars is in their battery packs. Replace all that electric shit with an efficient IC engine and weight goes down. Big-time.

184 Rasmussen Swing State Poll: R = 50 TFG = 45 In the 11 swing states, Mitt Romney earns 50% of the vote to ObamaÂ’s 45%. Two percent (2%) like another candidate in the race, and four percent (4%) are undecided. This is now the third time Romney has hit the 50% mark in the combined swing states in the past four days and is the biggest lead either candidate has held in nearly three weeks. This survey is conducted on a rolling seven-day basis, and as a result, virtually all of the interviews for todayÂ’s update were completed before the end of last nightÂ’s presidential debate. Romney has now held a modest lead for 12 of the last 15 days; Obama was ahead twice, and the candidates ran even once. In 2008, Obama won these states by a combined margin of 53% to 46%, virtually identical to his national margin.

248 But I disagree about the "best" thing. The best thing would be something personally humiliating to TFG, like his membership to a certain Chicago bathhouse or other evidence of his gayness NNTAWWT. Maybe photos of him doing blow with a Pakistani man's tongue in his ear? Something that would entertain us would be best. --- I don't think the "Man's Country" stuff will do damage to him on election day, which is what I care about. If HillBuzz is any indicator, the black community is ready to tear apart "Barry Cakeboy" once he loses. Him being shown as a "Manchurian Candidate" owned by the House of Saud, though, would have an effect.

Convential wisdom says that teenagers think they know everything.  This works to their detriment.  There aren't many teenage agers that don't think their parents are idiots.

Given the infantilization of the American population (e.g. children defined under Obamacare as anyone under the age of 26).  I think that this "knowing everything" phase has pushed well into the 20's also.

Is it me or did PPP forget that in their own poll from debate:

Indies:

48 less likely to Vote for Obama...32 Percent more likely

47 more likely to Vote for Romney....35 Percent less likely

PPP I am sure also had slanted sample....I could care less what they say...but still if PPP is holding out hopes with those numbers above....  GET A LIFE JACKET.....a REAL BIG ONE!

Oh I am sure Ace will Publish Rasmussen's Numbers today I hope!

As for hope over at Drudge:

CBS Undecideds in OHIO:

6 to 2 broke for Romney after last night debate!!  Charlie Rose and Norah over at CBS almost fell off their chairs with the results!!  DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is and will always be the ECONOMY STUPID!!  A FP debate will sway no one unless some major gaffe happens....Americans in the end...strip away all the BS nonsense will vote based on their economic means!

Last night in Luntz Focus group...they gave a slight edge to Obama on FP...but they overwhelmingly picked Mitt on the Economy!  That is the big difference the Pundits fail to get over and over and over.  Style Points....who in the heck watches a debate at home with a SCORECARD?  Rush is the only person that talks about this.  Regular Americans look at the two and say who will help me and America get and do better!  Pure and simple...not complex....gotchas or fights.

Mitt was brilliant last night because he made Obama look desperate and sound desperate.  While the left says look Obama won according to snap polls...But what victory?  He won FP but lost the Economy.  Mitt stood toe to toe and he did great.   He pivoted back to the Economy which is and will be the NUMBER ONE decider.  Some of us wanted Mitt to attack over Libya but the audience needed to reach he did with smarts and style.  And to us as well Mitt look and acted like a President....similar to the way Ronald Reagan did!

Couple of thoughts:  Romney hitting 50% at Raz is kind of a big deal.

I used to negotiate quite a bit in my career. One principle is to go the opposite of your opponet in demeanor. First debate, Romney forceful and optimistic to Obama sullen and withdrawn. Romney won big. Obama caught hell and was forced to get aggressive for the next two debates. Romney spun the other way and presented himself as the reasonable man while Obama flailed and looked unpresidential.

Very well done. The Romney campaign gets the big picture. Obama, like most leftists, tries to win on snark. Snark excites leftists, but turns indys off.

Posted by: rickb223 at October 23, 2012 11:57 AM (GFM2b)

Tax valuation assessments lag current values by about 2 years.  Your taxes will continue to drop after the market turns. National stats on real estate are meaningless in assessing local real estate submarkets. We have over 250 such submarkets in the USA. Most subs are in light decline or flat at this time.

Some are improving at the same time. Some are in a dead cat bounce, some show real improvement. I look for the real bottom nationally in late 2014. There will be no national boom after that, but things will improve in fits and starts.

Republicans Rejected Man’s Claims That Obama Sold Cocaine In College A man claiming to be a close pal to President Obama during college made contact with Republican operatives recently, ready to go public with claims that Obama used and sold cocaine in college, RadarOnline.com is reporting exclusively. The operatives tried to spread the story through the media and the Romney campaign, a source close to the situation told Radar. “At first he wanted to do a book,” a source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com about the alleged college pal. “But there just wasn’t enough time before the election. PHOTOS: Stars’ Most Embarrassing Moments “The people he is involved with have produced other credible information that is damaging to national Democratic figures in the past few years.” Operatives close to the Romney campaign were contacted and rejected the information, the source told Radar. “They didn’t want anything to do with it,” the source said. “They thought it was not anything they wanted to be associated with or anything their candidate would want to be associated with.”

But, electoral math makes me nervous.

He also says there is no limit to the illegal/immoral activity the organization will do in order to ensure an Obama victory.

He says because of this, Ohio is in the bag for Obama, and without Ohio Romney cannot win.

Is Ohio, and with it the election, lost?

Since 2004, Putin has been tightening the governmentÂ’s grip on the Russian oil sector, moves that made it increasingly difficult for foreign producers to establish or maintain footholds in the country, said William J. Andrews, a fund manager at C.S. McKee & Co. in Pittsburgh. Buying TNK-BP from the London-based producer and the Russian billionaires who own the other half will transfer to Rosneft fields that accounted for about 25 percent of BPÂ’s annual output worldwide.

“The Russians are nationalistic and are going to keep the oil reserves for themselves,” said Andrews, who helps manage $14 billion. “They don’t really have a legal system or a political system. It’s a dictatorship.”

That $25K was money well spent. Aluminum wiring is one of the most dangerous things I can think of."

Unless the aluminum wiring was undersized when installed, this was a waste of about $20K.    A $5000 remediation of all outlets and switches with copper pigtails and specially designed connectors would have eliminated 99% of the risk and met all current codes.    The residual 1% of the risk is what homeowner's insurance is for.
