Turns Out, So Has Romney.
— Ace I guess they forgot they cut $716 billion from Medicare. One can understand why they forgot -- the media certainly didn't remind them.
Mitt Romney is reminding them.

I hate to keep reminding people of this, but Obama is not a good politician. His team is not nearly as smart and good as they think they are. The reason he is not a good politician is because he has been trapped in a liberal coocoon all his life, so he keeps tripping up over his liberal instincts. Clinton grew up in the south and governed in the south. His liberal instincts were tempered by past experiences.
But there is one crucial difference between Clinton and Obama. Clinton cared about his own personal stature. Obama cares about his liberal cause. Clinton must love that Obama is having to run on Clinton's accomplishments and having to call on Clinton to speak. I doubt Clinton will care one way or the other whether Obama wins.
But back to my original point. Every instinct of Obama's blows up in his face because he is so out of the mainstream. Even a compliant media can't spin everything for him. Obama is going to lose and he is going to lose big.

Sadly, yes. That's what America has been reduced to. That's why I don't see any hope in the future until major collapse and rebuilding. "I doubt Clinton will care one way or the other whether Obama wins."
If I had to guess, I'd say Clinton will end up voting for Romney. They aren't that far apart on policy and he can't be a big fan of Obama at any level.

I think the specific number hurts more. Generalities don't devestate nearly as much as exact figures. When you're saying over half a trillion does that mean 800 billion, 700 billion 500.00001 billion?

Posted by: underemployedidiot at August 14, 2012 11:15 AM (b0c2h)
See, I don't think it's that "America" has been reduced to that, but that Democrats continually cast the arguments that way.
One of the things that I have hope for in a Romney/Ryan Presidency is that Ryan might (just might) be able to recast that argument into "who is best keeping the promises made by our government." From there (it'll take time, though) it will be a fairly small rhetorical step to "who is best enabling our seniors to see to their own needs in retirement?"

Well its pretty clear that this 'Obamacare' monstrosity is going to be an enormous, painful failure at every level except the original goal of destroying medical insurance in this nation so the government has to step in and save us all
I'm just saying that is the intent of the cut. They didn't just cut medicare and say "HA UP YOURS!" they did it as a way of helping to pay for the ACA which ostensibly will cover what medicare used to.

Things I've noticed about senior citizens.
1. They still watch TV live and have "Favorite Shows"; These shows don't seem to vary much from senior to senior.
2. While most folks who actually watch live and not DVR TV bail the instant a commercial comes on, seniors tend to sit through them.

Which is why ads targeted at older people are primarily informative rather than visual and comedy. They are actual ads, telling about a product and its value instead of an attempt to get you to pay attention or share it on Youtube. Most modern ads are attempts at going viral, not at catching eyeballs when they are shown. They hope to use that as super word of mouth.

The only way to end a program like this is to phase it out, and not to violate promises. This is why this debate is so devastating to dems. Their entire premise is that the programs can grow and grow, and the top 5% can be milked to pay for them. What inevitably happens is that they default because there is no way to pay for them, just like a bankruptcy. If you can phase them out, it is not only economically feasible, but politically feasible.

Dude, I'm not defending the ACA. I'm pointing out that if you laid it all on the table, the Demorats have as much explanation to why this was done and how they say it isn't bad as Ryan has for his plan. Its a criticism of what has happened to politics and debate, not Ryan and Romney.
I hate using the term 'Obamacare' though. It implies ONLY Obama is responsible for the bill, when its all the Democrats in congress, led by Pelosi and Reid. I don't like them getting a pass.

I'm not sure what the etiquette is on talking about, but not posting, non-public presentations, but there is a case study from the NRCC on the special election in NV-2 where they talk about how they used the race to test out how to fight the Ryan Plan/Medicare attack to a draw and then pivot to the economy and win.
In short, they not only fought the democrat rep to a draw but won the argument over Medicare by coupling it to Obamacare --
When asked which candidate will better protect seniors on Medicare?:
-- Amodei went from a [-13] to [+8] over his rival.
Among those 56-65:
-- Amodei went from a [-28] to a [+7]
The video above is near identical to all the points discussed: Couple your opponent and Medicare by their support on video to Obamacare (very unpopular) and use numerical facts such as the $700 Billion cut to make your point. Vow that you want to save the program and use seniors/mother/etc to verify this. Fight to parity and then pivot to the economy.
We're doing lines of blow off stripper tits by 8pm.

I still haven't seen the add (still at work) but I would hope they're pointing out (or trying to) that OCare simply stole the money with no plan for how to help Medicare address the short-fall, while the Ryan Plan (as it really does) plans to make reforms to Medicare to make it actually cost less.

Umm. The Israeli's and Egyptian jointly manage the Sinai. A rat doesn't fart without the Israeli's knowing it. Any action is advised and coordinated.
Not that I trust the Muslim Brotherhood or anything. But that's fact.
The Sinai situation with Bedouins and other tribes is much more complex. The Egyptian military has had enough of people firing at their troops.

The problem is, the math doesn't add up if you look at i from another perspective. In 2008, Obama got barely over 50% of the vote while being perceived as the second coming mixed with Soul Train and republicans were hated and running a man almost no one on earth likes. He barely won with every single possible aspect of the election going for him. I don't see that being true this time around.

There are studies where people think they get "more" if you give them 100 pennies vs. 1 dollar.
So, go with the 716 billion. Plus, the same type of studies show a trillion would just be an abstract number to most.

Medicare is paid for, by....Jobs.
Actually, by private sector Jobs.
Government jobs are paid for with tax dollars and debt.....so the Medicare that is withheld is not new revenue, it's recycled revenue.
So....Medicare is tied to Unemployment in the private sector.
Another big way to "Save Medicare"....is to create more private sector Jobs.
Creating more government jobs won't do it.
And I think that it sounds better to use "Cuts nearly a Trillion".
$716 Billion is nearly a Trillion.
(The IRS always rounds up, don't they?)

And by the way, that sidebar story about the Progressive Insurance scum who refused to pay out on a policy (young woman killed in a car accident, she was not at fault, she had Progressive Insurance, and Progressive ended up providing attorneys for the man who killed her, just to avoid paying the dead woman's claim).
Anyway, Progressive is so named because they are politically extremely progressive liberal commie scum and they use that money (that they steal from dead people instead of paying claims) and give it to other scum like Obama and Debbie WhatserName Schultz and all the other commies who are making life for the rest of us a living hell.

Regardless of race, Seniors have been around long enough to witness all the changes in America since FDR. They're the ones who saw the passage of Civil Rights legislation, and have been paying high taxes in order to fund the Federal insatiable appetite for more programs that keep providing more opportunistic corruption of the system, as if the organized criminals in our crony capitalist system consider taxpayers' tax funds as "insured" funds by some nonfunctional federal entity (resembling the FDIC), not hurting anyone to rob that source, no crime to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Unless Marxists, seniors aren't the demographic contingency that Obama is targeting with his message directing the armed vigilante thugs, the (New) Black Panthers, to take possession of the streets and election polls, to enjoy unearned benefits now referenced as entitlements. Class warfare.
Reagan's economic administrator Paul Craig Roberts wrote a good critique.

And all the Republican insiders are like all, saying, "oh no, Choomer McDogeater's gonna get the votes of all the old folks in Florida and everywhere else because that's the third rail."
And then...BAM!!!!....

They never believed the $716 Billion would be cut from Medicare any more than they believed Obama opposed Gay Marriage. The $716 Billion Cut was a politically convenient lie, necessary at the time to make the CBO numbers balance so Obamacare went on the books as "free".
They all knew from the git-go that Congress would never have the guts to go through with it, and the $716 Billion would come from tax increases or from whatever Fiscal Fairy is funding our current deficits. The lie was forgotten as soon as it was said, because they never really meant it.

Yes, half a trillion sounds like a lot. But, you would have to announce "Obama took over a half a trillion" which sounds, well, like you don't know how much he took.
In addition to which, most numbnuts don't know how much a trillion is. Doubt that? Ask a liberal how many zeroes in a trillion. Hilarity ensues. No wonder they don't mind spending trillions.
