Thoroughbred racing, first weekend in May in Louisville. The 138th run of the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports." One and a quarter miles.

Here's a Derby thread if you wanna talk about it. I've never seen a race at Churchill Downs, but I have toured it with a friend. Kind of an amazing place.

There's a white thoroughbred running today. They're talkin it up.

11 Morning run got cancelled due to rain. There's absolutely nothing worse than a muddy infield. It's completely disgusting and everyone smells. I never miss not attending when it's a day like today.

I'm heading out to the barn to climb on my tractor. I have 4 acres to mow. Meadows, orchard etc. Do I make a pitcher of mint Julips, since I'll be on the turf, and the barn smells like horseshit....or do I make a pitcher of Margaritas since I'm doing Manual Labor. It's 60 degrees and cloudy, so tequila shouldn't twist me up to much...as to opposed to it fucking you up on a super hot/sunny day.

Their structure, which is intended to make them fast enough to outrun predators, also makes them extremely likely to suffer serious injuries. They have large bodies carried by thin legs and hooves. And once they break a leg it is extremely difficult to treat successfully. They can't stand for any length of time on 3 legs without causing damage to the good legs and hooves. And they can't lay down for long because of their heavy bodies. Whether running through a field, being ridden, or in a horse race, they can fall and be seriously injured. A hole in a field can cause a devastating injury to a horse. A horse race may increase the chances of a fall, but I would withhold judgement on a tv show.

57 #39 Mine That Bird's jockey was Calvin Borel, who is riding Take Charge Indy today. One big reason I like that horse. Plus, his pedigree is fabulous and he has an inside post position, just where Borel likes it. I'm a little puzzled why his odds went up from 8 last night to 10 today though. So I didn't have the nerve to bet him straight to win. There's a crapload of money going into the long-odds horses today, probably because the track is going to be muddy and who knows what will happen on a bad track with 20 horses.

63 Wow, I see no category stuff or anything like that on the widget that is displayed in my browser. Make it simple on yourself ... Ace's widget is just a jumping off point that gets tracked by Amazon, just click at the bottom part of the widget and you will be taken to the main Amazon page and then you can do your searching from there and Ace's jumping-off-point status will still be in effect and he will get credit for sending you to shop there.

75 I have strong dislike for Borel. I hope he loses big! We had a horse in at Churchill and he was our jockey. He was signing autographs all day. 5 min. Before post he decides he doesn't want to ride anymore that day. We are in the paddock without a jockey. The thing was he's ridden him before so he new our horse. We had to pick someone else. Not a good day.
