— Ace I'm not saying he's depressing. I'm saying the results are depressing, so any analysis will be depressing.
The American people voted Tuesday; reality votes in the weeks and months to come. The markets will take into account the fact that weÂ’re likely to see similar gridlock in Congress for at least the next two years. The fiscal cliff and sequestration will have to be dealt with in one way or the other. Those who set the national credit rating will have to contemplate whether the outlook warrants another downgrade. The ticking time bomb of our entitlement programs will show less and less time before detonation. Taxes are probably going to go up.Oh, and the world, full of those seeking a weaker America, may become a more dangerous place. You may see those hostile to our values testing their luck.
...
Republicans need to confront the fact that because of demographics and a party infrastructure that has gotten very, very good at bringing out the vote in presidential years, Democrats are going to be very, very tough every four years. One of the strange aspects of this year is that I would have argued that Obama wasn’t all that charming. His favorable numbers dipped. He was dismissive in that first debate, snarky and combative in the second, constantly saying things that his campaign had to explain — “you didn’t build that,” “the private sector is doing fine,” “Romnesia,” “voting is the best revenge” . . . and he still won.
Ari Fleischer points out the silver lining is that so far, Romney is winning independents. ThatÂ’s not a silver lining, thatÂ’s worse news: Democrats donÂ’t really need independents anymore.
If there is some good news, it's that there are early indications that our GOTV effort in Ohio was bad. I say that's good news because, if true, it indicates a mechanical problem that can be fixed.
There's also this: Obama's team targeted non-voters in a sophisticated system called NARWHAL which seems to have worked. Why is that good news? Because any technological advantage will be quickly ripped off, imitated, pirated.
The real campaign is startlingly simple: it is the Obama team's fanatical pursuit, behind the scenes, diagram by diagram, plan by plan, of what politicos call the "base vote." These are the Democratic leaners who will be deciding not between Obama and Romney, but between voting for Obama and not voting at all. Starting in the spring, the Obama campaign launched elaborate efforts to reach the different communities of such base-voters in every key state: African-Americans, Latinos, women, gay men and women—each is now getting bombarded with tailor-made messaging and organizing. A barbershop and beauty shop program for black voters, for example; visibility at Pride events for LGBT voters; Spanish-language radio ads for Latinos. As a strategy, it's a rabbit-from-the hat kind of move, trying to pull votes out of nowhere. During the long, lean months of summer, when anxious Dems were fretting about a reelect stuck in low gear, during the sudden reversal in the early fall when all of us were focusing on Romney's aimlessness and Obama's seeming invulnerability, and now again with everything tied up, this, just this, is what consumes the strategists in Chicago. Just the base vote. (Even a catastrophic super-storm hasn't altered their plans: "As we continue our daily updates on the state of the ground game, we want to turn attention to the African American vote," read a memo from the campaign, as much of the Eastern Seaboard remained without power.)So forget what you know about undecided voters. Forget about the oldster white guy, sitting at the counter at the Taste-T Café, reading aloud from a story about the budget deficit and still making up his mind about which candidate suits him better. The oldster is going to vote for Romney, okay? Forget, too, his daughter, the soccer mom—wait, make that the waitress mom—gripping the wheel of her minivan as she hears on the radio that another Republican candidate has semi-condoned rape. She is going for Obama. The issue is her college-age son, at this moment snoozing in an upper bunk at State U. Young Zach likes Obama. So do his buddies. They appreciate that they can stay on their parents' health care plans until they're 26 if they need to. They like that the wars are ending. They're indifferent to Romney, at best, because the guy seems like—the president's words, now—"a bullshitter." The only question is, are Zach and his buddies even going to bother to vote?
When I first read about NARWHAL, I was very skeptical. I thought it was the campaign spinning some Secret Magic Button that would allow them to win in the face of 8% unemployment. I'm not skeptical now.
On Jan. 22, a young woman in a socially conservative corner of southwestern Ohio received a blast email from Stephanie Cutter, a deputy campaign manager for Barack Obama. Years earlier, the young woman had registered for updates on Obama’s website, completing a form that asked for her email address and ZIP code. For a while, the emails she received from Obama and his Organizing for America apparatus were appeals to give money and sign petitions, and she responded to one that required that she provide her name. The emails kept on coming, rarely with anything an Obama supporter could disagree with, and certainly not the type of hard-edged political message that could scare one away. But Cutter’s note was different. She boasted of a new administration rule that would require insurance plans to fully cover contraception as part of the president’s health care reform law, and encouraged her recipients to see the policy as reason to rally around Obama’s re-election. “Think about how different that is from what the candidates on the other side would do,” Cutter wrote. “Our opponents have been waging a war on women’s health—attempting to defund Planned Parenthood, overturn Roe v. Wade, and everything in between.”
It was a message that sat well with the young Ohioan who received it. She was single, liberal, sensitive to medical costs—but she had never told the campaign any of those things, and the one piece of information she had provided (her ZIP code) could easily mark her as the type of traditionalist Midwestern woman who would recoil at efforts to liberalize access to birth control. Indeed, she found it hard to believe that many other residents of her ZIP code would look as favorably upon a rallying cry to defend Planned Parenthood as she did.
AdvertisementThose who have worked with Obama’s data say that it is an email that would have never been sent in 2008. The campaign knew very little about the 13 million people who had registered for online updates, not even their age or gender or party registration. Without the ability to filter its recipients based on those criteria, the campaign stuck to safe topics for email blasts and reserved its sharp-edged messages for individual delivery by direct mail or phone call. In those channels, the campaign could be certain of the political identities of those it was reaching, because the recipients had been profiled based on hundreds of personal characteristics—enough to guarantee that each message was aimed at a receptive audience.
This year, however, as part of a project code-named Narwhal, ObamaÂ’s team is working to link once completely separate repositories of information so that every fact gathered about a voter is available to every arm of the campaign. Such information-sharing would allow the person who crafts a provocative email about contraception to send it only to women with whom canvassers have personally discussed reproductive views or whom data-mining targeters have pinpointed as likely to be friendly to ObamaÂ’s views on the issue.
It's creepy, and it seems like it should be illegal, but apparently it worked. It turned out a few million non-voters, turned them into Obama voters, and turned the election in Obama's favor.
Obama did lose ten million voters (actually, probably less, when all votes are tallied). But he turned out people who'd never voted before, or voted rarely, by figuring out just what provocative, scare 'em message to send individual non-voters.
One thing that strikes me is that Obama is, has been, and will continue to make more or less naked racial/gender appeals to his voters. The sort of appeals that Republicans are not allowed to make.
This appeal -- appeal to one's tribe -- is powerful. It's also racist, and divisive, and promotes an Us vs. Them mentality... all those things which are terrible if a Republican even hints at it.
But for Obama and the Democrats, it's Game On. They can sow the seeds of Hate -- always a strong motivating emotion in an election -- without any embarrassment and without being called on it by anyone.

If your constantly ripping off your opponents stuff you will never get ahead of the game. It's like every time I hear USADA or WADA say we have found this steroid or this performance enhancer, the cheaters are always one step ahead. From my perspective that was very apparent in this election, dems were always first to respond first to create.

At least the NRA and Fish &Game can give us lists of members. The rest? Not so much. My church would never give out a list of parishoners and I don't know who would.
And yeah it's mostly social con stuff so good luck with that. I had to explain to one lady what partial-birth abortion was. She just got angry at me and hung up. Even people who are sympathetic don't want to talk about it.

Poor people went out to vote because of Obama. The man. That get out the vote effort isn't going to be matched by the Democrats ever again.
And it wouldn't have mattered if the dumbshit GOP primary voters hadn't nominated a bunch of really dumbshit candidates for Senate who dragged Romney down in key states.
Time to get the picture: shut the fuck up about abortion and rape, dumbshits. Do not nominate candidates who are dumbshits who say dumbshit things that turn off so many women. Go negative early and hard the way the Dems do. When they attack capitalism, don't do weak-ass defenses, attack them back. Optimism does not win elections. That is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard.
Voting is a negative act, dumbshits.
Sometimes I think this party is too stupid to survive.

All the more reason to let it burn. We can't win anymore, and there's no where to move to escape. I would be fine to let them have the America they want, if I could just get away from them. But the sad reality is that there is nowhere I can run to that has what I want.

I was door-to-door targeted because I'm "unaffiliated".
My wife is also unaffiliated, and was not targeted.
By targeted, I mean canvassers showing up at my house and asking for me by name.
They were not interested in my wife, because they knew she requested an early ballot, and I did not.
This is ROMNEY campaign data.

Its not new, its just improved with central data collection, the ability to store more data, and to make it more widely accessible to a larger number of campaign workers.
My take on this is that the sophisticated data-mining has a sort of "wow" technologic appeal, but it probably only netted Obama a point or less in actual votes. It might have pushed Obama over the edge, but that's only because the thing was so close.
Our guy just didn't have the appeal to bring in the votes en masse.

What is going to happen to us when the Dems drum up a good candidate? We are going to get crushed, and loose the whole shebang.
That's why I am shifting more and more to the SMOD thinking. While Captain Epic Fail is in office give America as much of that fail she voted for as we can stuff down her throat. Stop trying to save them from the misery. They've made it clear either they won't learn without it, or misery is what they want, time to find out which it is. Don't let it be a slow transition to socialism which is what they want, so those that lived in the 80s die along the way so no living memory of prosperity and freedom exists to contrast against the bleak backdrop of soft socialism.
This of course will cost us dearly in the short term, but I think honestly it is the only medicine for the long term.

The democrats didn't have a new, secret weapon style GOTV machine. They lost 10 million of their voters this cycle. That isn't a great success.
Our GOTV effort simply failed. No one, not one person here or anywhere ever hinted that Romney might not get as many votes as McCain. It just was an impossibility.

Very true, but the GOP can and needs to combat this. For the life of me I don't understand why GOP supporters with a microphone don't call out the bad behavior and bad methods of the left. When Obama or his surrogates do or say something that is divisive or racist, someone on the right needs to spell out that this is what they are doing. People may not really notice just how bad Obama's behavior is, but when you point it out to them, not only do they see it and probably dislike it, but it makes them more likely to notice the same tactic again in the future (which is actually the greatest benefit of all).
We have to teach people, show them what the left is doing. You do this using facts, which are inarguable, and staying away from questioning motives, which can't be proven. And you do this through repetition.
Starting around 2009 or 2010, if the right had consistently pointed out every time Obama lied, or was divisive, then attacking his trustworthiness and credibility would have been much easier.
The GOP has to get their act together now, and continuously plant and tend the seeds to be sown in 2016. They also need a well thought out strategy to reposition their image. I'd love to see a series of ads that occur periodically over all years, not just election season, showing all types of people (demographically) saying "I'm a Republican" or "I like Republicans because...(hit on freedom, generosity, etc.)

Republicans stayed home. They didn't switch sides and vote for Obama, They just stayed home.
That's why we lost.
Why did the Republicans stay home? THAT is the question that must be answered.
We did not lose because we did not push immigration reform or pander to Latinos. Latinos vote Democrat for other reasons: primarily because they offer more free stuff/safety net/pick your term for it.
We certainly had a worse GOTV effort than the Democrats. That's part of it. How much of the vote deficit was due to GOTV weakness? I'll just say a fair amount, but we need to dig deeper into that question to find out.
How much of it was due to Romney as the candidate? Rush is opining that he was chosen (at least amongst his friends) solely on the basis of "electability"; that his friends never mentioned any of his policy positions as a basis to support him. That point I am mulling over before I I can comment on that.
We need to do a thorough post-mortem.
We need to learn from this.
And then we need to come back stronger in 2014, and stronger in 2016.

This appeal -- appeal to one's tribe -- is powerful. It's also racist, and divisive, and promotes an Us vs. Them mentality... all those things which are terrible if a Republican even hints at it.
We don't have a common culture anymore, we have multiple cultures existing within a common geographical mass. We certainly don't have a unifying language; while English may be the lingua franca, it becomes easier each passing year to exist with no knowledge of English at all. There is no common religion to speak of, and while there never has been a unifying religion there have in the past been commonalities as the overwhelming majority believed in the Judeo-Christian God. This is disappearing. It's been argued that one unifying force in America is love of freedom, but this isn't accurate as many groups have different definitions of freedom and some groups don't even believe in freedom at all. The sad reality is that we have been balkanized and with balkanization only one of two outcomes can be achieved. One, the geographic integrity of the country dissolves and multiple culturally homogeneous independent state results. Or the alternate, an extremely strong, vigorous, and oppressive centralized government develops as this is the only type of government that can maintain a culturally heterogeneous nation-state.

I'm telling you, this is why people did not vote Republican. It was not about the economy. They truly think we are going to take the U.S. back to 1950. So STOP talking about social issues.
But thats exactly what Repubs did this time. They ignore social issues and focused exclusively on the economy, which meant that on cultural questions the only narrative on air was that of liberals.

I don't buy this "let them sleep in their now made beds" theory.
For one thing, all the rest of us will suffer too.
More important, the idiots voting for this crap will never learn. Ruin the economy further, and you just create more dependency on the government, and even less reason to oppose entitlements, bailouts, etc.
Romney dropped the ball when he said to that young woman who wanted free birth control that "Obama is the one with free stuff". What he should have said was that birth control can't be "free", and that demanding it is really asking someone else to pay for it. Children want "free" stuff, adults should pay for what they want.

Well, people turned out in droves...in 2010.
What happened to that?
Did the Tea Party people stay home?
Were they turned off by Mitt's 'reach across the isle' stuff?
Were they pissed off by the way the Republican party didn't fully embrace them?
I'm still trying to figure out why 68% of registered R's didn't vote.
Here in OK, it was a good turnout...Romney won by 67%.
Could've been better.

Apparently that's true. So why not do it in return? If Romney's strategy had been to spend months painting Obama as a divider, a hater, with a racist AG, who punishes success, it would have stuck.
One thing I have been hearing, and agree with, is that Conservatives mistakenly thought they could win on principle. They should go negative. Tell everyone that Democrats want to take away their guns, tax them to death, put more people on welfare, gut the military, spend us into bankruptcy.
In Iowa, two congressional conservatives won handily against very well known liberals (one an incumbent, the other a former governor's wife). One of them was in a district that included Des Moines, which went heavily for Obama. It was pretty negative on both sides, which didn't seem to hurt the republican.

The problem that's always plagued the repubs (which is very evident in this morning's posts) is that we're caught in the trap of trying to please the fucking "groups" that the leftists and the MFM have created.
Why are so many people moving to TX?
It's like when the military tried to nuke the alien ship above Dallas in ID4: the problem remains.
Any state, including Texas, is still under the control of the Feds. Meaning there is no true escape from the TFG zombie horde. No state is out of reach as long as the America we all know still stands. Maybe one of those magic 57 states TFG talked about is our conservative utopia.
Posted by: EC at November 08, 2012 09:41 AM (GQ8sn)
The Tea Party was right, they're mad and they're gearing up for 2014.
They need to have a 50 state strategy. No more writing off states as "blue". Wendy Long our Senate candidate in NY had no media presence. Gillibrand was on TV all the time.
Republicans and Conservatives are missing a massive opportunity for outreach in the wake of Sandy. FEMA and the local government has totally failed. Conservative and Republican organizations should be moving in to fill the gap and proselytize.
They should run "preparedness" campaigns, to teach people about disaster safety, aid, and survival. Become the organization that "cares and tries to help".
And no more counting on the media to be impartial arbiters of the election. In no just universe should a lying scrunt like Warren be even allowed to campaign, let alone win a Senate seat. You have to make the attack yourself. You have to play dirty yourself. You are always up against 2 opponents in the election, not just the opposing candidate.
Posted by: Iblis at November 08, 2012 09:41 AM (9221z)
The big difference between the Obama and the Romney organizations is that the Romney GOTV effort was going on for four months, while Obama's was going on for four years. Obama owns the Democratic Party (and probably will hand-pick his successor), and I'm certain they're preparing for 2016 even as I type this.
Does the GOP have a national effort to identify and stay in touch with and develop its base? Do they do data mining to glean information about potential supporters and tailor messages to them? I'm sure there's something in place, but nothing like the scale and sophistication of what the Democrats are doing.
Look, I *hate* the hyperpoliticization of our culture. I loathe the perpetual campaign. But the world has changed, and we have to get with it, or face more nights like last Tuesday.
Is Reince the guy to lead such an effort? I hope so. But I have to wonder if his team has the resources and, frankly, the ruthlessness to pull it off.

Ruined is all relative depending on what you think "ruined" means. We hold now the most volatile seat of federal power, the majority of the house, something that can change wildly every 2 years.
Expectations. of Americas future.
1. Persistent unemployment between 7-9% for GOOD years.
2. Flagging industrial output.
3. Declining exports.
4. Inflation rates north of 10%
5. Interest rates (mortgage) north of 12%
6. Declining private sector rising public sector job counts.
7. Increased regulation that impacts the common citizen. Look to NY for an example.
8. Worldwide decline of the value of the Dollar.
9. As economic output drops increasing tax burdens to pay for the growing number of people on entitlements.
And all that is the "best" most optimistic scenario I can come up with that assumes nothing really shocking happens like an all out collapse of the Euro or a failed treasury bond auction or a sudden market shock followed by massive liquidation, all of which are VERY likely.
Americas best days might not be behind her, but our best days in America are. If she ever comes back, she will not be as good as she was in my lifetime while I am still alive.

Ok, I don't know if my views on this are going to help, but here it goes:
I live in the People's Republic of California, South Central Los Angeles to be exact...it is one big steaming pile of shit. It is a Third World nation within a state all to itself. The city is run by both black and Hispanic individuals who have done nothing but sown discord and hate into the populace. These people around here are literally sheep, that's it. They have been dumbed down to the point that they need the government and its officials to tell them how to live. I have seen first hand the devestation that liberal policies have wrought on blacks...hell, 75% of my step-mother's family is on the government dole. I see the multiple children being born out-of-wedlock with mulitple fathers...it's so disgusting. I have tried talking to these people, I have tried reasoning with them. I am telling you that even with the GOP parading a bunch of people of color in positions of authority in front of them isn't going to matter. They voted for this shit...let them eat it!
I am a conservative female, who served her nation proudly in the United States Navy, who happens to be black. I don't want a damn dime from any taxpayer...I put my faith in God and I do for myself. I know this is going to be painful, but these people...not just the ignorant blacks, but the Hispanics and liberal whites don't believe fat meat is greasy. They are about to find out how greasy that fat meat is.

You cannot have a simultaneously free and amoral society. While I think our stance on marriage should be "It ain't any of the governments F*king business and government at all levels shouldn't license, regulate, incentivise, sanction, officially recognize, or otherwise interfere with human relationships between consenting adults" However, while the plank on abortion needs tweaking, it is absolutely essential. Similarly the plank on religious freedoms regarding contraception is also critical.

This seems like an obvious step so I hope the integrity of the data has been confirmed, but I'm just having trouble squaring the low turnout against everything else we know (people dying to vote for 4 years, Obamacare backlash, 2010 backlash, huge crowds for Romney, high voter enthusiasm in polls, etc.). From what I understand fewer people voted Romney than McCain, and this doesn't make sense to me. There were so many different types of usurpations over the past 4 years, and so many people were motivated to vote, that turnout for Romney (or against Obama) should have been huge. And, I don't trust Obama or the Dems not to have been insideous and tenacious in assuring O's re-election. The fact that his turnout was 10 million less than 2008 means we should have had this in the bag.
If the numbers have been vetted and widely accepted, I'll shut up about this...

For example, one of the radio stations here in the area plays ads in which they "recognize" local businesses for creating new jobs, and one of the taglines in the promo is how businesses creating jobs is the way out of the economic crisis. The promo is generally innocent enough but it leaves the listener with a faulty impression that the economy can be fixed if only businesses would hire more people.
I envision wage and price controls making a comeback in the not too distant future.

Yeah, I call BS on the NARWHAL thing, too. Who has time to read political spam? Not only did the Dems drop 10 million voters, they also lost two 2008 states (NC and IN). The McCain states stayed Red.
Step One for Republicans is to close the primary elections to registered Republicans.
Step Two is to eliminate the Romney Rule that gives too much power to the RNC bigs at the expense of the State Committees.

To believe the Santa-centric culture meme, you have to believe that Hispanics and Asians think that blacks are a model for them.
There are great ways to show Hispanics and Asians how they are more in line with conservatives, but the methods haven't been used. To do so would be called racist because it necessarily highlights how democrats have "helped" blacks into the situation they are in.
Democrats never win elections on substance. They hold shiny objects in front of stupid people and distract them. We need to do the same thing.

Eventually your side will use violence to try and quash us. It is inevitable, it *always* has to happen in collectivist structured societies and everyone on your side in leadership knows it. That's why they've been trying to disarm us for decades now.
That's how commies have solved problems since Marx: Shoot the bastard who disagrees with you. So don't take to lecturing us on the use of force, if we had 1/4 the willingness to use violence your side has your lot would have been strung up in my Grandpa's lifetime.

Part of that process is that companies must CLEARLY identify the cause of their layoffs/bankruptcies: the high inflation caused by horrible government policies. Just because bad stuff is going to happen, that is no reason to just cede the narrative.
Government can't just make up wealth to redistribute. But it can destroy it. Wage and price controls are useless against the almighty power of the invisible hand.
Yes, but my original point was partly inspired by I Be That Chick's post about life in LA. People have had it pounded into their head for decades that everything is someone else's fault, or to clarify, the fault of some entity other than the Democratic party. It's not about ceding the narrative, it's about the equivalent of talking to a brick wall. And obviously wage and price controls are futile, but I believe they will be brought back because for the Democrats they will serve a useful political tool.

I'm not trying to be scary. I'm just calling a spade a spade. Your side will use violence the same minute they think they can win by using violence.
Our side will avoid using violence unless the only conceivable way we can protect our lives, property, and freedom is through the use of violence.
And QED to that point has been the fact that we (my side) has always had the necessary force to get our way yet, our tolerance of an openly totalitarian faction (yours) for decades. Using only political means to slow your agenda, ultimately submitting peacefully to political losses, and marginal losses of freedom.
So don't talk to us about violence. It is shear projection. At this very moment your side wishes they could just *end* this right now while we are back on our heals. But they can't because they lack sufficient force.

One thing that we can learn from democrats...
We are a tiny group of political elites and thinkers. We understand the issues and the nuances of policies. As conservatives, we would like to believe that there are great numbers of people who think and act as we do. There are not.
Democrats have known for ages that the vast majority of people are unthinking, "useful idiots". They don't bother crafting solutions to problems. They spend their time and effort figuring what will help them gain and retain power.
There are methods and issues that mobilize the less-than-brilliant. All we need to do is get with the program.

Google "Social Monitoring Tools." There are, literally, dozens of them out there - they all do what "NARWHAL" claims to do - in the hands of capable operators.
Radian6 has been around for awhile. Karl Rove and his ilk know as much about Radian6 as they do about differential equations.
Obama's team knew what statements had traction and which ones didn't, far faster than the Gouty Old Party. They knew what to roll back, and they knew what statements to amplify. This is what these tools do. These tools are readily available - they're just not understood by a team that still believes a tune-up involves replacing your points and condensor...
Notice that "truth" has nothing to do with this. The Benghazi lies worked, and Obama knew they worked, so he and Joe kept telling them. This analysis was done for every lie, every statement, every advertisement, etc. Obama's team had a MUCH better read on what worked than Dudley Dooright's ever did.
While Karl Rove was f'ing around with a mini-whiteboard, like a lunatic, Obama's team were running social monitoring software on 128 Core LINUX systems, and steering the campaign in near-real-time.
And that's how they won, and Goody Two Shoes got his ass kicked. Again.

It shrinks the voter pool ("all possible Republicans") from all three ends, the squish end, the right-libertarian end, and the hated "Evangelical" end (but less so from that end than the others). Goes kinda like this:
The media isn't "liberal." It's partisan. So there's a 24/7 media-wide assault on a certain caricature of Republicans, not so much of "conservatives" or "conservatism," though sometimes they use those words to signal "Republican." It's the same caricature deployed by Obama's hatey campaign—"the KKK took my pussy away"—because the media-in-general *is* a Democratic campaign, a hatey one, a campaign for rule-by-people-like-Obama.
So of course a few people (I mean tens of millions) who aren't particularly politically interested but would otherwise vote Republican for various small (small compared to "As Burke said regarding Locke's contention that...") reasons, they give up, internally, and be the kind person TV tells them to. A good person! So, not a Republican, ever, at all. And that's millions of votes never voted.
And...I understand. I mean, being excluded by everything and everyone that's *exemplary* in your culture isn't very fun, and most people can't handle it. So they don't. And a lot of squishes, most of the I-decided-who-to-vote-for-while-I-was-in-the-booth flakes, and most women (TV's audience) are lost. And it takes out a lot of people who would otherwise *arrive* at thinking Republicans are less shitty than Democrats, if they thought about it, and they would, but they don't, because they can feel how it makes the TV mad at them.
That depression accomplished, to further help out the Democrats, *actual alleged Republicans* (Coulter, lately, especially) get on TV (or AOSHQ) and say how much they hate anyone who might in any way *match* the DemTV caricature of Republicans. So the people the caricature *partly* matches—and people who think the caricature is *unjustly applied to them* (or to others)—are "depressed" too. They're mostly basically anti-political people anyway, so it's not too hard to get them to fuck off. And the Party *makes sure*—in their role as the assistant Democratic campaign—that those people do fuck off.
So you're left with is...not so many Republican voters. And only a pretty narrow band of people who are willing—as candidates, party people, campaign leeches—to identify as Republicans. And they tend to be intensely weird and dorky assholes who have nothing in common with the "all possible Republicans" pool. And they give off a very, very hatey vibe toward the ones who aren't precisely like them, who aren't..."educated" Christian careerists? I don't know a good term. It's people who come off like if Patrick Bateman was a Jehovah's Witness. You know, like Romney.
The GOP has been so successfully branded as repulsive, so well-hated, so effectively, that it's *become* repulsive. But in a different way. So yeah, it works. It worked.

If this is what it has come down to our experiment with self governance is complete and the results are a failure. And we should be examining why the United States failed and try and do it better next time. For their is no path to freedom if what you say is true, for the ignorant will always be tempted by bribes and handouts, and will choose them every time if you can give them the plausible dependability that they are being virtuous by voting for bribes and handouts.
Get that, to the ignorant, no matter how well we argue the opposite, as long as 1 plausible argument exists that stipulates voting themselves more free stuff is in fact virtuous, they will keep doing it. The only way to get someone to stop is to make them not ignorant.

With each state having a GOTV operation, they can even help the others during an election like this one. Alabama may not need the GOTV push as much as Florida, so the Alabama GOTV can be "loaned" to Florida for some of the election.
The GOP needs to start doing things for the nominees instead of relying on the candidates' volunteers.

This is why the GOP MUST combat the left's racial divisiveness. And I think they do this by calling it out. For example, if the Professor Gates/Officer Crowley incident early in O's term happened now, everyone supporting the right with a microphone could say along the lines of:
"Before knowing all the facts, President Obama took the side of his friend Professor Gates over decorated police officer Crowley. This interferes with the ability to obtain the facts and administer justice impartially, which are core foundations of our society and our laws.
In addition, President Obama undermined our law enforcement which creates distrust in our society and fails to support the principle that everyone is innocent until proven innocent. It is especially egregious when the president fails not only to support this principle, but instead tears at its fabric. Using his position of power to help a friend at the expense of truth and justice is unbecoming and unfair. He likes to say everyone should get a fair shot and a fair chance, but he did the opposite here by trying to tilt the scales for his friend.
Furthermore, Professor Gates is black and Officer Crowley is white. Taking the side of one race in an incident like this is divisive. It stirs up racial resentments which is irresponsible and outrageous coming from the president of all Americans. President Obama said he would bring Americans of all races together but he did not use this incident as an opportunity to do that. He created more divisiveness, not more unity."
In other words...call out the favoritism, the foundations American beliefs and society that Obama stomped on, the racial division he sows, etc. Say it clearly, sticking to facts. Don't question motives.
Not only will calling Obama out inform people who wouldn't notice on their own how abusive his behavior is, it teaches them to think about such things. The next time Obama says or does something, people will be more likely to notice. Call him out consistently and people will start to see on their own how dishonest he is.
As it stands now, the GOP is afraid to spell out what Obama and the left do. That has to stop. Most Americans of all stripes are honest, decent people. They are busy and don't think deeply about some incidents as much as we do. We have to help inform them in a way that is factual.

Because there's only one way to commit fraud, and it must include thousands? Because the lie is just too big and nobody would believe it?
If the left cheated, they would have put a lot of effort into covering their tracks. Computer systems can be manipulated or hacked, and I'm sure there are other ways if you creatively.
No one should fear an investigation of the data. It doesn't hurt anything. If it shows everything is legit, great, we can be sure and move on. The stakes were very, very high, and to assume rather than verify everything is aboveboard makes no sense to me. Great post.
Why the hell is the GOP not doing this? Money, I suppose.
To that end I would say -- develop fulltime GOTV in selected swing states, not all 50, as a cost-saving measure.
Posted by: shoeless hunter at November 08, 2012 02:34 PM (9196u)
No, all 50 states. We need a deep bench. Here in Virginia, we had George Allen because nobody had any idea who the others running were. So if they had won, it would have been former Governor Tim Kaine vs. Republican Ham Sandwich. RHS has never held office, never been in front of crowds, and never had to go through the "gotcha" press. That is why you need experienced campaigners if you are a GOP candidate. We need to elect city council members. We need to elect School Board members. We need to have candidates for every single office, no matter how trivial the office is. If we think an elective office is trivial, screw it, have a candidate for it anyway. Destroy that office from the inside so that it can be abolished. Politicians in the state capitols will go along with an officeholder that says a particular office should be abolished.
We need to quit looking at a 4 year election cycle, we need to remember that there are elections every year, and in some places, twice a year. My city went overwhelmingly for Obama, and Dems control every elected office since all council members are at-large. This past spring, the Republican running for Mayor came within 2 percentage points of winning. The only elected GOP official is the Sheriff. An AA woman. That is it. If our mayoral candidate had a GOTV effort behind him, he would have won. Then, we now have a potential candidate for congress. That is how we build it up. That is why the GOTV has to be permanent, and universal.

Sorry, but the example of how impressive NARWHAL is doesn't impress me. "Years earlier she had registered at Obama's website". Sounds like an Obama supporter to me. Then she gets a war on women email with the lure of free contracepives. And we're all supposed to think this is sophisticated because a) they didn't know her gender and b) she was in a zip that was supposed to be traditionally socially conservative. c) sending a war on women/free rubbers email to this zip code without knowing who it was going to was "risky" because it might turn off a social conservative? Huh?
Would a socially conservative person, man or woman, have registered to get emails from Obama's website "years earlier" and stayed on it for "years". I don't think so. This was a hardcore, long-time member of the Obama Fan Club getting standard Obama war on women rubbish, not some sophisticated targeting. Take away the "registered years earlier" part, and yes, that would be good. Otherwise, Fan Club Member gets emails.

Boo hoo. Conservatives have to make those appeals whether they are allowed to or not. The alternative is to lose.
When making those appeals gets called racism, as it will be, you have to call out the attackers as anti-White, and not get into the routine of pleading not guilty, then just pleading, then losing.
You cannot win while curled up in a fetal position, not doing the things that your opponent does because those are the winning things to do.
In any case, it's not just that Republicans aren't allowed to appeal to their potential supporters in effective ways, it's more that they choose not to, because of the Goldberg Line: the Republican theory, as expressed by Jonah Goldberg, that liberals are for particular groups of people, but conservatives by definition are not. That is a loser.

Conservatives have to shake off the taboos against explicitly helping and appealing to their supporters, 90% of whom are white.
First, that's necessary to get out the vote.
Second, it's necessary to govern in a way that increases the White vote as a share of the electorate over time. If the left increases its constituents as a share of the electorate and the right does not, the right loses.
Posted by: The Lightworker at November 08, 2012 03:26 PM (mnulr)

Correct.
So the alternatives are to take them on using the most effective means, or to lose not only temporarily and in electoral terms but in the long run, in policy and demographically, to a coalition of anti-White haters, with all that implies.
The second option is not acceptable. Which is why I'm not having any of the despair BS. I want electoral and policy victory, and survival for my race, however great the odds, however hard and long the road.
