Anyone see him on New Year's? He was slurring words and obviously showing the signs of very advanced old age, but I had to give him props for keeping it up.

He interviewed all the great ones.

Does anyone here actually use the over-the-air hd channels avaliable to them for free?

It's a pain in the ass with the antenna and converter if you need one, but still worth it because it's...free.

Anyway, if you do, you might have available the MeTV channel and its sister-station RTV.

They air That Girl, MASH, Batman, Star Trek, The Rifleman, Bob Newhart. etc.

We kicked cable a couple weeks ago. Getting the antenna(s) tweaked was a little time-consuming, but it's worth it. I suppose we'll get a Roku or something like it eventually.

After years and years of shelling out more and more for less and less watchable programming on basic cable, the wife and I came to the conclusion that it was madness to continue.

Hell, you can't even depend on the channel's title to get you in the ballpark of what the actual programming will be anymore. Add to it that there was more worth watching on TV when we only had four channels than there is now that we have 75-900 and you kinda get the feeling that cable is dead.

Sad to hear. I remember watching American Bandstand with my teenage sisters when I was really little. Times really changed since then. I don't recall any of dirty pelvis grinding and other simulated sex acts being classified as "dancing" on that show.

Heh. A friend of mine was at ComiCon a few years ago and was at a panel with everyone from Torchwood. The discussion turned to series 3 (I think) and everyone was talking about it and suddenly one of the producers cracked up and mentioned that, technically, it hadn't aired in the US yet but mysteriously everyone in the audience had seen every episode.

I live in the boonies. No Cable. I do not have a satllite dish either. I do not miss cable either.

The broadcast TV is OK, because I usually only watch the local news. One station repeats their local news during primetime, so when I came home from work I could catch up.

The same station also has This (old movies) and Me (old TV series). The nice thing about seeing these old shows is that I realize that broadcast TV has not gone down hill in the last few years. TV shows were always stupid and poorly written.

One downside is a definite lack of gratuitious feminine beauty. No 1970's shows like Charlie's Angels or 3's Company, etc. I suppose those shows actually cost money to syndicate.

Another station actually has other channels that show Music Videos, just like MTV used to.

I live far enough out that I do not get the low power televangelist channel. Thank you Lord!

The converter box was cheap about one months basic cable bill.

Clark slurred ever since his stroke several years ago, it's been that way for a long time, but he kept appearing on "Rockin' New Years" even after he had to turn over main duties to Seacrist.

Levon Helm passed this morning. In my opinion he had as much influence on Rock as Dylan and Elvis. RIP my friend.
