— Ace When I saw Biden's laugh, I had the idea of adding a laugh track and rimshots.
I wondered, though, if that would send the wrong message: Would it seem like the laugh track was reinforcing Biden's intended message that what Ryan was saying was ridiculous?
Well, someone did do just this, so we can see if my worry was well-founded, of if the maker managed to make it clear that Biden, not Ryan, is the clown here. Did the focus on Biden make it clear that he's the goof?
Actually, speaking of: What if you constructed a mock debate stage and showed a clown -- a real clown -- over in the left wing (stage left, behind the curtain) making balloon animals and honking a horn? And intercut that to suggest that "The Intellect of the Democratic Party" was just mesmerized by this clown for the whole debate?
Anyway, here's Biden, with laugh track.

I suppose that would be true IF what Ryan was saying was ridiculous.
I think it showed Ryan's seriousness and Biden's buffoonery.

The laugh track is a bit much as Random says, but
> Did the focus on Biden make it clear that he's the goof?
Look at the two of them.
Biden did *okay* in the debate because when he talked he lied and bull-dozed. What kept him from winning the debate is what is on display here without the other to mitigate it.

Ace, I completely hate clowns...but I like the idea of using one in this case. Only sit the clown next to Ryan. Use a split screen and have Ryan debating the clown. It makes more sense. Hell, you can even have that bimbo throw in a question addressing it as "Vice President". Just for authenticity. It's not like the clown has to respond or anything. Just have it keep making balloon animals and telling inappropriate jokes.

The debate segments used in this video...are good ones, for Paul Ryan.
But adding the 'laugh track' makes it ambiguous.
It could go either way...as to who is being mocked with the laugh track.

I like this idea much better, Ace...than this laugh track video.
Or....the Joker.
The way that Biden was shamelessly lying...and mocking the truths that Ryan was saying...was malevolent.
It reminded me of scenes where the Joker was doing the same thing.

I think a better add would take Ryan's arguments and replace them with clips of elder statesman making the exact same points -
People like Netanyahu, Laffer, Walesa, Reagan, etc. (Hell, you can probably even find a clip or two of Kennedy, Bubba Clinton, and Zel Miller making some of the same arguments that Ryan made during that debate.)
Then cutting to Joe Biden's reactions to these statements.

NO.
Ask yourself this. Did Uncle Joe display any of these signs of symptoms when he was the one doing the talking? When Martha Radditz was doing the talking? No. Only when Paul Ryan was doing the talking.
This was not a medical event. This was not a seizure or a nervous tic. This was not brain injury. This was a planned calculation.

I'd like to see one something along these lines:
-> Actual clip of Joe claiming Syria is five times bigger than Libya.
--> Split screen:
left half Syria map over Libya map.
right half Joe grinning (maybe a rimshot)
-> Actual clip of Joe saying intelligence failed us in Benghazi
-> Followed by actual clip of Joe saying intelligence assures us Iran can't build delivery systems for nukes
--> Split screen:
left half: Joe grinning
right half: Clip of Joe saying he always says what he means, and means what he says.
-> End: clip of Ryan saying Joe is aware that sometimes words don't always come out of your mouth the right way.

One of the core tenants of the Obama AdministrationÂ’s 2012 platform is that Obama and Biden inherited a messy economy.
Time and again, the American people are told that the reason things havenÂ’t gotten better is because the Obama administration inherited such a disaster that it was impossibly to fix it quickly.
This attempt to shift the blame elsewhere is not only immature, it isnÂ’t constructive in anyway. In fact, it reveals in stark contrast just how the Obama administration views the world.
First off, Obama and Biden ran for the job of managing the US economy in 2008. This is literally the JOB they APPLIED FOR. No one forced them to do it.
By whining about how bad it was when they GOT the job, theyÂ’re effectively implying that they would only want to be in charge if things were good.
This is leadership?

It only works if you hate laugh tracks as much as I do, and I doubt that's possible.
The ominous music kinda helps but it still seems to be sending out a mixed message.
By the way, I posted an assortment of laughing Biden videos in my Saturday Movie Matinee, this morning:

I watched the video a few times with the sound turned off, just watching facial expressions of the two. Ryan looks like he is engaged in a serious, earnest discussion of something of import. Biden looks like a man attending a comedy club in a foreign country. He looks like he hears laughter (in this case probably in his own head- a virtual internal laugh track if you will) and reacts by laughing, even though he doesn't really get the punch line or even understand what the performer is saying.
Come to think of it, in this case Ryan may just as well have been speaking another language.

For some people it does not matter. Talked with some people at work who saw the VP debate. One is above me, makes more, has more college and not stupid. He thought Biden had more substance and it took me quite a while to get him to understand the same R&R tax plan I heard in the debate. He just swallowed Joes line about growing from the middle out and R&R want to grow from the top down and tax cuts for the rich and the math does not add up. He also thought Ryan was too extreme with religion. Yeah I was like ???? and had to explain Federalism to him. I also had to explain the bs of the "no specifics" talking point. The framework is the specific. The rest is left for the bipartisan, consensus workingout from Congress. and there is enough to cover it duH!!!
Another guy in the shop thought Biden did better as well. But they make just above minimum wage so...

Over regulation and taxation keeping the economy from growing? Ridiculous.
Telling the world and Iran that we won't allow them to become nuclear weapon capable? Ridiculous.
Insisting that if we don't change our entitlement system we will bankrupt our country and destroy our economy? Ridiculous.
Repealing Obamacare to protect it's citizens and our healthcare system? Ridiculous.
This is what our current administration thinks and are laughing at.

They didn't know the troops wanted a stronger SOFA force, unannounced timetable
They didn't know it was a terrorist attack, (thought it was a parade?)
Repeating "we didn't know" and that was the intel we got.
Repeat those over pics of Obama with all his goofy Hollywood pals, on the golf course, at parties, etc.
Their excuse is "we didn't know" any better, while everyone else did know better. Rapid sequence of the ME violence, fewer workers, insurance rates up chart, gas prices ... with laughing Biden and Obama mixed.
If they want to tie Obama to Biden in "zeal", tie them together in "we didn't know" along with the maniacal laughs.
