Doom Report!!!
— Ace

At HillBuzz (no link for concern-trolls):

I am now going to officially keep track of every “Doom Report” filed at RedState by Erik Erikson that repeats the corrupt media’s standard propaganda that “Obama’s going to win!”. I’m going to similarly monitor Allahpundit at HotAir and Ace at AceofSpades as well. These three guys repeatedly post articles that depress and demoralize conservatives by largely repeating things the corrupt media purposefully says to help Democrats. I am tired of it and want to build a dossier on these three sites to document the Fifth Column activities over there that breed Eeyores amongst Republicans.

Um, where are these demoralizing posts of mine, exactly? Or of the cobloggers?

I'm actually doing something I'm not sure I should be doing -- cocooning. Not mentioning bad polls. I'm not sure if I should be doing that, but I have been ignoring bad polls for two weeks now.

Should be... not linking them even more aggressively? Not mentioning them even more vigorously? Ignoring them with even more fierceness encoded into my non-existing posts about them?

And I don't even agree that cocooning is a good strategy. This Rocket Scientist is obviously a big fan of it. For me, I'm a less sold on the political value of what is, when it comes down to it, lying to readers.

But I've also noted that in any contest, the other team gets the ball too, and sometimes they score. And this is not a reason for the fans to start screaming "Fire the coach!" or "Put in the second-string quarterback!"

There are going to be dips and peaks.

That said, since I've embargoed most bad polls since they started turning bad, I'm not really sure what this Rocket Scientist wants me to do. Do dozens of posts on "Democratic skews"? Just keep posting the Joe Pesci soundbite, "Everything this guy just said is bullshit"?

One of the things that's truly annoying about political movements is the large number of people who don't really have particularly interesting minds, and don't write particularly interesting things. So they appoint themselves to a position long held by uninteresting people: Morale Officer. And, like Morale Officers throughout time (the US had them in military; the Soviet Union had them for civilians) they don't actually do much to improve Morale; they just insist it should be better, and if you are not Regulation Cheerful, you are a Malcontent and must be Disciplined.

I'm a big fan of happy endings. I don't like drama. I don't like wallowing or depression. I don't like internet shit-fights. I don't like whining.

I don't like Bummers and in fact go out of my way to avoid them -- and actually I think I'm going too far on the side of No Bummers, because I do sometimes worry that I am presenting a cockeyed-optimistic view of the world to readers.

But then, I remind myself they are surrounded by the Make Believe Media, just as I am, and they almost certainly read and hear of these things elsewhere.

So I do, in fact, try to make the site a relatively happy place, and I think I do an okay job of it. A lot of people write to me to say things like, "Your site is one of the few keeping me sane right now."

I'm not sure what the self-appointed Sandals, Jamaica Fun Coordinator at HillBuzz would like me to do. Organize a limbo? Hard to do as we're not in the same room.

But I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. Newsflash: Uninteresting people say uninteresting things; film at 11.

By the Way: In 2010, I spent four of five weekends before the election traveling across the country -- Boston, Las Vegas, NJ, NYC -- to organize/popularize citizen volunteering for Republican campaigns.

I was pretty damn worn out after that-- working during the week, then canvassing and phone banking for candidates on weekends.

What did you do, Sparky?

Some people talk. Other people do.

The Morale Officer may have some use (opinions vary), but he's not out there actually on the field, is he?

No, he's a REMF.

Link For Volunteering: Anyone who actually wants to do something positive should probably stop Mau-Mauing people who are obviously voting for Romney (and whose readers are all voting for Romney) and try talking to some people who aren't necessarily voting for Romney, at least not without some encouragement.

FreedomWorks has a big suite of organizing/voter contact software, too.

14 If you start off your piece by saying 'If the election were held today, Obama would win' (E. Ericson I'm looking at you), you're probably not doing it right with less than 50 days to go.

I've given up reading HA because I'm convinced they just want the traffic. It seems every day there's one ridiculous poll posted after another.

I don't think you do this. At least not on a regular basis. I think it was just that one day of doom and gloom. Maybe I'm not remembering right but that's why I'm skimming here and reading no other websites at this point.

I don't need fake rosy sunshine sugarcoated bullshit. But I also don't prefer hyperventilation. That's all I'm seeing from the pundits. And I think this is why most people are frustrated. A lot of people are out busting their ass this election and it doesn't help to read 'well you know we're down by 10 points in X state right?' Rather than link the bad poll, why not put the flipping context in there that they oversampled Dems by X points?

Did I mention I've had my fill of pundits?

one thing I think they do have right is the number of otherwise nice people who believe everything they hear over and over on tv, and contribute to potential voter suppression by repeating it as if it's real.

It is crucial for the O-bots to get vast turnout of low-info sheep (including dead ones) out to vote early and often, and equally crucial to give as many reasons as possible for potential non-O votes to stay home.

Ras showing high enthusiasm for the Dems. I find this puzzling? The economy is in the toilet and Obama put it there.

If it's true certainly it is something to be concerned about. I also feel strongly that Obama has lost most or all of the indpendent vote. So bascially - it's the R's who need to show up and vote in this election.

Romney needs better ads. I also think Romney should fire the idiot who is in control of his ads.

try this-

If this nation wants economic stagnation, economic insecurity, high unemployment, and continued economic lethargy, vote for Obama.

If this nation wants high energy prices, with the promise of green technology unfulfilled, vote for Obama.

If this nation wants continued government cronyism and a total lack of transparency, vote for Obama.

If this nation wants more tax dollars thrown away, vote for Obama.

If this nation wants to kick the can down the road when it comes to entitlements, vote for Obama.

If this nation wants a more complicated and punitive tax code that increasingly helps grow an unaccountable government and shrink small and medium sized businesses, vote for Obama.

Ace,

There is a Propaganda War going on right now.

The polls have been compromised.

What else can you take away from it....when the Candidate in Power, has directed his government to persecute the oldest, most respected Polling company in the country...Gallup.

"Crucify" one of them...to make an example out of them.

That has been Barky's modis operandi, all along.

So I think that we need to take the polling results with a grain of salt.

Even when they show things that we like.

Stay frosty, like we did in 2010...keep hammering them, right up till the election.

It's all we can do.

25 A little bit of DOOM is a good thing. It acts as a necessary counter-balance to the Pollyanna who declare the election is already in the bag for Romney and we should all kick back with the popcorn. Expressing concern that our side is screwing up, and pointing out that the other side might win if things continue is not being an "Eeyore." That last thing we need is to spend all our time in an echo chamber and go off about how awesome our side is.

Posted by: The Political Hat at September 17, 2012 10:09 AM (XvHmy)

26 So. HillBuzz is monitoring AoSHQ. From reading their post, it looks like monitoring, not supervising. They have a point about "Doom", but I think it is really a general point. The D's really do seem to be spending some time on depressing the vote turnout by assuring everyone that Teh JEF has already won. I don't see much "Doom" here (with apologies to K.), but there are a lot of poll threads, and not quite enough dissection. And sometimes, in yesterday's Joe Scarborough event, the best response is a good roasting, like in the old days. Make Joe a dark roast blend ... it's good for those International Coffee moments ...

28 Pretty much every pollster, including Rasmussen is factoring in a 2008 style turnout model. The only thing keeping this close is that Romney enjoys a double digit lead with Independents in most polls. Now assuming this will look more like 2004 and less like 2008, this means that every pollster is underestimating Romney's support by 5 or 6 points. As pollsters hate being wrong on election day expect their samples to tighten up and become less biased. This means a polling surge to Romney in the final week. Also. Obama has clearly peaked. The economy sucks and the world is going to shit. This election is already over. Romney has it in the bag.

Bullshit.  We're ahead by 2-4 points.  We may gain something if we run sensibly like the Democrat fantasy life of 2012 exceeding 2008's turnout but given how prone many are on our side to panic I'm not sure what would be gained.

http://battlegroundwatch.com/

You run the math on these goddamned polls with internals and you see.  They are gaming the hell out of the samples oversampling Republican women, and overepping singles.  I am afraid of reality when it's real, not too afraid of reality when it's as fake as a kardasian's tits.

I don't believe that Romney should be expected to to have won the election two months out, or fired all of his message ammo by now, leaving only reinforcing the message for the rest of the compaign.  He doesn't need to be hammer and tongs at Obama the whole time, there is a time and surrigates for that.  Btw, where's Sununu? He was great.

That being said, relentless attacks by the leftwing media and pollsters on how bad Romney is supposed to be doing is creating the atmosphere that this blog is discussing.

I still think it is all an effort to defy gravity and Obama will start plummeting to earth at some point.

Remember they kept trying to convince everyone that Carter was way ahead and Reagan was a nuke happy monster.  Reagan never had to get negative and nasty the way some are arguing Romney to get, in order for him to win bigly.

42 I never fully understood why it matters if someone thinks we're 3 points up, and I think we're 3 points down. This is less static than people would have you believe, first off. More importantly, what is it that we are going to do differently with polling that suggests we are slightly ahead that we wouldn't if we were slightly down? I'm still voting either way. I'm still trying to talk to friends and family that are fencesitters. I'm donating what I can. Nothing changes. No matter what, we press on until the very end, right?

What we abso-friggin'-lutely DO. NOT. WANT. is the inside-baseball crap being dished out at sites where the bloggers think they have the Straight Dope. Same goes for the wishy-washy "fairness" pap being drooled out by Poppin' Fresh and some of the yuppie scum at NRO.

44 We ignored bad polls in 2008. How'd that work out? I remember everybody saying that the polls overstated Obama's popularity because Americans were afraid to tell the young liberals on the phone that -- no, they won't vote for the first black president in American history -- out of fear of being judged as racist. Turns out the polls were accurate and McCain got crushed. He didn't lose a close. McCain got fucking destroyed, just like the polls said he was going to. If the polls say we are losing then that means we need to do more. Time spent arguing about the polls is wasted time.

If what you say is true then why does Huffington Poat work so well, they get millions of viewers, their headlines are all made to make Obama/ democrats look good, and republicans bad. Huffington buries all it's bad news, and good news for republicans are put in their spin cycle and become bad news So it's helped them motivate their base, independents that look at their site, leave thinking republicans going to lose the white house, senate , and congress. They know it's a game of not giving people the news , but how to manipulate the news to fit your agenda, and it looks like it ani't hurting democtas.

61 In terms of statistics, the polling has been consistent. I'm not saying it's accurate, just that it hasn't been volatile. Each candidate has had their top numbers within the margin of error from the average. For now, turnout will be key, based on the fact that neither candidate is trending to be above 50%.

67 I think Hillbuzz' complain is valid, certainly for Eric Erickson, and some of the stuff AP posts. There is a fine line between lying to ourselves about the polls, telling ourselves that it's the Bradley Effect and then getting beat like in 2008. On the other side is going too Eeyore, taking polls that are spun and letting them get us into a funk.

70 I don't pay attention to anything except for the cheerleader pictures, cute puppy videos, explosions, and discussions of rhubarb pies & other pies and pie-associated things. It is because I already know that Obama is a stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure. And he's a shit-festered anti-American, anti-Constitution goose-stepping dimwit. So I have already chosen not to vote for the bastard child of a communist whore. Therefore, I have plenty of time to read pleasant material, like discussions about spaceships, guns, boobs, and Kirkegaard vs. Hobbes. You know, just stuff. 71 46: Yes, the Bradley Effect is and always was a load of horseshit. Bradley didn't lose because people were racist. He lost because he endorsed the draconian gun control measure on the ballot in 1982, and it became front and center toward the end of the campaign. However, this election is not the same as 2008. Then, polls showed McCain WAY down and Republicans were trying to rationalize--and, actually, his final showing was "only" a loss by 7 points. This election, seriously skewed polls show Mitt Romney only a few points back.

I think Ed over at Hot Air deals with it well.  He posts the polls that are out there and when possible gets into the down and dirty of the poll data.  He exposes suspicious twisting of data and over-sampling where it exists, and compares that data to actual historical sampling data.  So when you see a poll showing Romney down two in whatever state (where Obama won by 8 in 200 , but they polled registered voters (who historically sample slanted Dem) with a +9 Democratic sample (when whatever state actually had a +4 Dem result even in Obama Zombie 200 the reader can use their brain to adjust what that poll actually says.

Now you may make the point that the average idiot just reads headlines and gets swayed by the propaganda that the cheating MSM provides.  Then you are either arguing we ignore what the media does by not addressing it, or engage in progaganda of our own.  I can't agree with either of these.

Also, there is place for optimism where it is justified, but also a place for pessimism where it is justified.  And different types of people are motivated by both.  When I see a big problem growing bigger, it makes me double down on how hard I'm willing to work to fix it.

I'd like to see a big attention-getting action, a game changer of sorts.  Right now we have surrogates going out one or two at a time, and they are drowned out by the MSM.  We need something different and unexpected to break through. Perhaps a joint appearance/ad by a horde of prominent sane people (former military, political, entertainment, media - anyone recognizable).  A show of force that visually and verbally conveys that we are the majority, united in support of American principles.  Normally many of us don't get involved in politics, but the crises on multiple fronts is so dangerous it requires it now.  There is only one path to economic recovery, employment turnaround, protection of freedoms and national security, etc.

And, can't Rove or somebody get a discussion of O's loyalties going, somehow?  Someone prominent needs to start openly questioning his commitment to Americans, our culture, the constitution.  Sure the MSM will scream, but let's get people talking about it.  Is Obama incompetent or is he implementing a hidden agenda.

126 But it was still that nasty film, right? Fox reports. An intelligence source on the ground in Libya told Fox News that there was no demonstration outside the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi prior to last week’s attack — challenging the Obama administration’s claims that the assault grew out of a “spontaneous” protest against an anti-Islam film. The intelligence source said no protests were happening before the attackers struck at about 9:35 p.m. local time last Tuesday. The account backs up claims by a purported Libyan security guard who told McClatchy Newspapers late last week that the area was quiet before the attack. “There wasn’t a single ant outside,” the unnamed guard, who was being treated in a hospital, said in the interview. These details appear to conflict with accounts from the Obama administration that the attack spawned from an out-of-control protest. The Libyan president also said Sunday that the strike was planned in advance.

The only reason why that is important....is, if it is true....it means that Barky and Hillary put that poor guy into danger.

It was monumentally stupid.

But then I still cling to my basic analysis: Elections are driven by facts on the ground and we know the facts and they are not good for Obama. He can win a news cycle or two, but he can't change the facts on the ground. But is Romney behind right now? Yes, I think he is. Notice I didn't say this in a post. But if we're cutting the bullshit, yes, I think he's behind. *Right now.* But it's just asinine, this relentless Freeping of every goddamn thing. "Don't say what you believe; REPEAT MY FAVORED COLLECTIVE-APPROVED HAPPYTIME MESSAGE!!!!" There is something to be said for that as the campaign progresses. I have always been straight up about admitting I do it. I knew McCain was going to lose but pretended I thought he could win; I even pretended I thought there were hopeful signs in Christine O'Donnell's awful poll numbers (and I cherry picked the ones that showed her with the smallest deficit). 131 I don't like Bummers and in fact go out of my way to avoid them -- and actually I think I'm going too far on the side of No Bummers, because I do sometimes worry that I am presenting a cockeyed-optimistic view of the world to readers.

Here let me set you mind at ease about that.

No. You're doing just fine with that brosef.

134

These three guys repeatedly post articles that depress and demoralize conservatives by largely repeating things the corrupt media purposefully says to help Democrats.

Call them blasphemers. You know you want to.

And I don't even agree that cocooning is a good strategy. This Rocket Scientist is obviously a big fan of it. For me, I'm a less sold on the political value of what is, when it comes down to it, lying to readers.

Ace, I can say in no uncertain terms, that I read your stuff for the straight shit. I don't need you to pretend for me. Conversely, when you express confidence in a campaign or a poll, it carries more weight.

Posted by: CJ at September 17, 2012 10:28 AM (9KqcB)

135 Seems like the right balance to strike, ace. Conservativism requires that we face reality, not hide from it. I don't think the polls are "real", in the sense of being accurate or useful news, but they exist. We don't have to believe the pretense that they are fair or accurate.

140 I told you guys that I was uncomfortable about the fact that all the libs/dems I know considered BO's re election almost a fait au compli. And you all jumped all over me. They weren't even really taking the campaign seriously until recently and then all of a sudden they decided to go all in and "create the greatest ground game in the history of the modern world" and to line up the lawyers for the huge fight they are expecting since "of course the republicans will do voter fraud" and to advertise in odd places like video games and fashion blogs and entertainment sites to make sure "everyone has a chance to hear the president and come out to vote for him" There is no losing with them. If he loses they will fight like hell to keep him in office, that's their attitude cause they will think it's another bush/gore scenario and they vow to "never lose in that scenario again". The thing that scares me lately is that people are almost giving up. They see a little problem in maybe the romney campaign and they are ready to "not even bother to vote" or think "my vote won't matter anyway". This is exactly the way people are behaving about the economy and why it isn't affecting the election the way the romney camp thought it would. Most people feel that nothing can be done about it and they aren't tieing it to the administration they are tieing it to the big bad bankers and corporate interests. Some how in their minds BO is not responsible for any of what has gone on in his administration since bush handed him a bad hand and "he's done his best". I don't know how romney counteracts that thinking, particularly since they've been trained to never put on fox news and never read anything or listen to anything that isn't a democratic organ. The most frightening is that many can't find jobs or have been fired, some have lost their homes and savings and they say "well, it's done what can you do about it?" It's exasperating. They aren't even upset about the price of gas, nary a peep. Often if they are independents they say "well the two parties are the same, stick with the devil you know in these trying times" they are going to vote for a bff not a leader.

146 I am a little concerned that I have hardly heard from Romney

He's letting Obama fuck up.  He's probably learned his lesson about how the media will spin even the mildest comment and refocus on him.  If he says nothing, then there's nothing for the media to turn against him.  They'll have to either embargo all this horrible news, or report it and try to spin it.

The embargo isn't really working as the international press isn't sucking Obama's dick anymore, and spinning it makes the media look more in the tank and silly.

Saying nothing seems like a good strategy right now to me.

156 SecDef: Insider attacks insurgents’ ‘last gasp’ By Lolita C. The defense chief’s comments followed unusually sharp criticism from Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Dempsey on Sunday called the escalating insider attacks a “very serious threat” to the Afghanistan campaign. These freaken lying bastards can't even keep their lies on the same page. For f**k sake. In 2010, not one pollster had their turnout model correct.

The nation turned out to stem what they saw with complete Dem control of government. They wanted a new direction. Obama has only offered the same direction, and has been absolutely clear in that.

Did we learn nothing from the Journolist experience? MSM played up the post-convention bounce until it began fading, then they hammered Romney on having the right foreignn policy response, and now they are all marching on the same "its over, doom" meme this week.

So are we to believe that the same electorate, which now has a chance to vote Obama out of office, is going to stay at home? Right.

2010 is the baseline turnout model. Has Obama done anything to gain votes that he didn't have in 2008? No. Has he lost votes? Absolutely.

Why are people on our side so curmudgeonly sometimes.

Perfect example - yard signs.

I go into phonebank on Saturdays. The girl that's working there is a sweet girl - mid 20s. Nice as can be and working her tail off. She's working 14 hours a day. Every day. And then 6-8 hours in Sundays and for a pittance. For the past 3 weeks she gets at least one nasty old crank coming in there bitching to her that the office has no yard signs yet. This is not in her control. Yet these people will specifically drive into the office to proceed to yell at her for 20 minutes thus sending her to the bathroom crying.

I'm really f'ng sick of people bitching. And yes, what am I doing here? Bitching. But holy god already people (and I"m really not talking to anyone here - I'm just venting in general), stop. Either get constructive or go to hell. No I mean it. I'm sick of cranks with nothing better to do than to go off on the inappropriate people that have absolutely no pull whatsoever.

202 >>>Ace, I can say in no uncertain terms, that I read your stuff for the straight shit. Nah, not directly before an election (last three weeks or so). Then it's just Game Faces. Football teams don't wallow in all the ways they are inferior to their opponents before the game. It's like this: It is *necessary*, but not *sufficient*, to win that you think you can win. There is some value in pushing optimism. There is a bandwagon effect. But for some people, the Bandwagon Effect is all they fucking know. It's all they care about. "Just keep pushing the bandwagon, so people will hop on!" This is Freeping Everything shit. Further, it should be noted that *IF* Romney is making mistakes (and I don't know that he is; see my football analogy -- the other team gets the ball too), then it's actually a disservice to him to not say so. Now I kind of avoid that because 1, I don't think he takes my input to heart all that much, and 2, this catewauling from all sides, with each Self-Declared Political Expert suggesting all sorts of contradictory opinions (PUSH THE ECONOMY! NO, PUSH SOCIAL ISSUES!) all washes itself away so that's all that's left is YOU'RE SCREWING UP. But *if* he makes some mistake, and I think it can be corrected, then damn straight, I'll say so. If it can't be corrected, I will take the Ed Harris from Apollo 13 view, when he's told the capsule might skip out of the earth's atmosphere: "Is there anything we can do about that now? No? then no point in saying anything."

I live in a blue blue area of a blue blue state, and by this time in 2008 there were TFG bumperstickers and yard signs all over the place.  Along with buttons on people's lapels.

Right now, practically nada.  There are a few Romney signs in yards.  Some battered TFG bumper stickers left over from 2008, looking as worse for wear as TFG himself.  Nobody is adorning their lapels with TFG bling.

In 2008, people were proselytizing for TFG.  It became impossible to go to the farmers' market  or drugstore  without having an unwanted political encounter.  The enthusiasm for TFG is gone.

We need to focus on the goal the way the commies have focused for the last sixty years.

222 The best report on polling I've read is this one at Data Tech Guy's blog:
http://tinyurl.com/8c4agc7
Basically his analysis is that unless Democrats have a 6+% edge on voter registration over Republicans, they tend not to win. And he shows how that is true over the years, back to 2004 at least.
Now, I don't know if Rassmussen's +4 GOP registration is accurate or not - it fits the sense I get and the trend in voter registration (down for both parties, but much more down for Democrats), but what I do know is there's simply no chance that voter registration is up by 6 or more points for Democrats.
I mean, CBS did a poll showing Obama up by 3 points, and they had to oversample Democrats to the tune of thirteen points over Republicans to get even that result.
And as people are starting to note, they're heavily oversampling women to get a more Obama trend. And its barely showing any significance.
In a year when we've seen the press so desperately pushing Obama like they did last week... I cannot conceive of why anyone trusts the polls. No matter if Obama is up in a poll or not, if its close, Romney wins.

Oh, and about that idea to use taxpayer funds to promote Obamacare in TV shows, this propaganda move needs to be fought.  No public funds should be used and if money is paid to promote a partisan policy, then a disclaimer should be required.  In fact, that is probably better.  Let their PACs or whomever pay to promote Obamacare, but make the networks run a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen during each relevant scene.  Show the couch potatoes exactly what is going on.

259 Why all the angst about polls? Because the MFM and pundits love it. Simply love it! It's the Reality TV of news. It requires minimal thought and just enough a**holes squeaking on the cheap to argue about nothing. Endlessly. With unbridled spin. They're stealing money with such a circus.

They're able to not actually cover news (which is expensive) and instead talk about the milieu of thought (which is cheap) produced by pseudoscience and statistics compiled in a witches brew.

Quit f*cking obsessing about polls. Cover the news. Try to work in content not first "reported" by that very news, and work the plan to get President M.T. Chair into a chaise lounge an the 19th Hole.

And avoiding adding ammo to the circular firing squad might help, too. Also, more minimally-pointed elbow cheerleader pics could boost morale. Kudos to DiT for his diligence here even though he's toying with us a bit with the recent photos to hide what are surely ghastly elbow imperfections.

192....That may be what they're doing, but see, that's not their INTENT. By having a female Ambassador in a Muslim country, Bammy is trying to say, "See? See how wonderful and accepting these Muslims are? They're not the stone age savages you think they are. Their wonderful people! Really!"

And he's drowning in his own purile bullshit.

-------------

Intent...?

We should step back and look at the whole picture.

"Never let a crisis go to waste"

Remember that?

Rahm Imanuel was a Clintonista, first.

That shit was going on during the Clinton years, bigtime.

Everything....was a fucking 'Crisis!'

Barky uses this same tactic.

He has been quietly amassing New Executive Powers....that kick in...'in the event of a 'Crisis'.

All that is left for them to do....is to manufacture a 'Crisis'.

Insulting the islamists, in their faces, in their own countries...what would that accomplish?

Gloating about "killing Bin Laden"....just days before the 11th Anniversary of 9/11....?

"Bin Laden is Dead! ...And GM is alive!"

Shit.

That's way more 'provocative' to the savages, than some underground, obscure film.

272 244 Speaking of polls. Was talking to my dad and asking what happened to Zogby poll. He explained that everyone had bush ahead in the 2004 election by two or three points. At the 11th hour, Zobgy, according to my dad's memory, jumped up and said he detected a huge surge for Gore and that Gore was going to win and changed his polling prediction. My dad says that guy with the bow tie who now owns daily caller did the same thing, on air. flipped to Gore saying bush could not win. My dad remembers being a little shocked by all of this.

275 I agree that Romney is worried about alienating independents, who he is absolutely KILLING with right now, huge advantage for him. The problem is he's got to sell himself as better than Obama, and he can do that without alienating anyone. Just stand up and make sure people see you as the capable, confident, and experienced one; the guy who understands how economics works, the guy who has turned businesses around and created jobs in his life.
With that he should give some more policy concretes. You'll always turn some people off with that, but if you do it right, it will be the people who were voting for Obama to begin with.

I agree.
I also think that Romney isn't being quite, he's being ignored by the press. Look last time he was given air time he looked really presidential and forced the press to pay attention to something they didn't want to (the middle east) and in the process they ended up looking like jackasses. So best to just pretend he doesn't exist.

282 Just came from my local GOP Victory center.

No Ryan/Romney yard signs yet.
No stickers, buttons, etc.

GET ON THE BALL.

I asked them if they had buttons I could pass out. Well, if I want to buy from a guy and then sell them, yes.

I explained that ObamaBots are passing out buttons at my mom's Catholic Church and there were a lot of ppl that wanted a Romney one.

I then asked if he had any I stand with Coal/Romney signs or bumperstickers. No.

I told him that energy is REALLY important to the people of Ohio and that signs like that are what is needed in my area (coal/natural gas).

I told him that we need signs that say Kasich jump started Ohio's economy, not Obama.  He said they don't have anything like that in the works.

I asked who I had to talk to so I can get this done.

He told me Romney main website.

UGH.

People need to see the overwhelming support there is for Romney before they (mouthbreathers) even start to listen to him.

Show it eaten up by Obamas policies with taxes, energy prices etc. show the near zero interest rates on their savings. Then do the same with your plan. Even being fact checked wld be ok b/c it still makes msm concede tax increases, gas prices, interest rates etc. I would prefer a tax calculator but this strategy wld be a good backup.

You know what I do when I get a little Eeyorish?

I get my cellular phone, and I open up the photo gallery.

I flip to the three pictures I took at Support Chick-Fil-A  Day.  One of the massive line that wrapped twice around the inside, and two to get a panoramic view of the parking lot and the grass field next to the place that was filled with cars like a highschool homecoming  football game.

These people came out specifically on that day to go out to eat in support of a cause.  These people were willing to forego whatever lunch or dinner plans they may have already had and instead shell out an extra $7 for fast-food, in support of a cause.

I look at those pictures, and I see a bunch of people who happened to have $7  and an hour to spare that particular week.  I think about that, and then I remind myself that voting takes less time, and costs  less money.

Expect to see all those people in line in front of you when you go vote in November.  And then some.  Many more some.

Ace, I commented in your defense at Hillbuzz, but I think you and Kevin misunderstand each other.  He's a pretty interesting guy, and so are most of the other bloggers there.  I think you'll find that he is more than a "Morale Officer" as far as political activism goes.  Too aba alot of that activism in the past was for the wrong side, but he's making up for it now.

And I think he's right about RedState.  For a site that bans profanity and nukes trolls in a heartbeat, the internecine warfare over there is pretty brutal and not uplifting in the least.  Look at their front page on any given day, and the comments for most stories are in the single digits for days at a time.  The New Look (3rd or 4th new look) there isn't helping either, at least not right now.

Yet here you are, plugging away looking pretty much like you did all those years ago, with threads being judged slow if the comments are below 300, trolls staggering around with "Kick Me" signs on their backs, and no locks on the door because the place never closes.  I think Kevin may be just a little jealous.

328 I know a few Democrat voters who'll go for Obama this time again. They'd vote for Josef Mengele's bones if they ran against a Republican.
What's different is that some of the older people I know who were upset with President Bush voted for Obama last time and they won't get fooled again. I'd be amazed if Obama got 10% of this voting bloc.
Its true that the GOP is basically run by retards, but that just means you who have the time and ability should be in there becoming the ones in charge, so they do get done what needs to.
Honestly though I really question the value of signs and bumper stickers. When was the last time you saw one and said "That's the one for me!!" really?

329 I agree with Ace that we shouldn't shield ourselves from bad news but at the same time politics is like a team sport and needs to be treated that way.

That is to say that negativity about the outcome will initiate a cascade of lackluster effort and recriminations in anticipation of a loss - to better position one's self in the aftermath of the loss rather than working towards a win - and the loss itself then becomes an inevitability.  It is simply unrealistic to say that you can both anticipate an inevitable loss but still give full effort towards a win - human nature doesn't work that way.

When I played hockey as a kid I always counseled teammates that when we were a goal or two or more ahead in the third period, to "put the other team to sleep."  By this I mean that when you line up for a face off or between stoppages instead of talking trash you tell the opposing team's player that he played well, or that his team was the victim of a few bad bounces or bad calls.  You say these things not necessarily because you believe them but because the player of a losing team is looking for a moral "out" or excuse to mentally excise his play from the outcome of the game.  On a practical level, his effort doesn't count for anything significant if his team loses, but on a psychological level he is tempted to find a resolution where he can be satisfied with something other than a win and not associate himself with the loss.  The effect of course is to demotivate the player - if he's dissociated himself emotionally from the outcome of the game which seems inevitable, he's a lot less likely to chase down loose pucks or endure physical punishment to make a play, which in turn makes a comeback much less likely.

The value of policing Eyores should be to punish those who are simply positioning themselves to look best after a loss because of the cascade effect that this has on the rest of the "team" as it were.  I don't think this requires an unreasonable suspension of disbelief, and I understand that much of the frustration lies with what seems like the insurmountable ability of a horribly biased media to shape a narrative for Obama's benefit.  It does seem like we're always put in a position to be playing defense, or to carry the hockey analogy forward, we're always killing a 5 on 3 power play due to shitty calls and can't get one to go our way.

This is exactly right.  The Massive Bullshit Media are creating make-believe content  (phony skewed polls) to give themselves something to talk about and a point of departure for attacking Romney.

If they actually had to rely on REALITY, it would be much more evident that Obama is in big trouble.  This is the psyops that we have to fight against.  And it is a psyops that is taking place all across the board.

Witness only the "big lie" that continues regarding the root cause of the riots in Libya and Egypt and elsewhere.  These are operations that are being manipulated by Salafist Islam  (al Qaeda operatives among them) mullahs and such, and are only tied to that stupid YouTube video for propaganda purposes. And they have got the Obama Regime tied in knots rationalizing this silliness.

We live in an Orwellian age, and even a Romney victory will not end that.  The MBM is intent on perverting truth and reality to achieve the ends that they desire.  Why isn't Dan Rather in jail for libeling George Bush in 2004?

When people talk about destroying the Media to save the country, this is really not far off base.  Something has to change or we will all go nuts.

I get attacked when I discuss stuff I see out there where I work, where I socialize. BO has had a surge in the past two weeks. At the same time it seems to me that something odd is going on with romney. They were doing really well, they were picking up a lot of steam and then it seemed like they ran out of steam. I'm wondering why, what happened? I guess, in my mind, I'm wondering if romney will turn out to be another McCain and he will say "President Obama is doing a good job guys" or something like that. It took a long time for me to warm up to the idea of romney as president. I fought it hard, I really liked rick santorum. so now I'm beginning to worry that he will let me down and I'll be deflated again by another republican candidate I chose to trust. So if that is coming out in my posts, sorry for that. I come here to get away from the daily barrage of information coming out of the bO campaign. Today they are celebrating cause romney's "internals aren't good". I didn't mention that or say anything but it might be weighing on my mind.

352 I agree that Red State is pissing me off by falling for this insider gossip that no one outside of dedicated blog readers would pay attention to. I do read RCP every day and it is very discouraging at times as they make no differentiation between good polls and ridiculous polls. A poll with a margin of error of 5 is not a good poll even if it is likely voters.
Every major contest since 2009, except for upstate New York, has gone to our side: McDonnel, Christie,Scott Brown, multiple Wisconsin elections(remember the supreme court justice too) and all the prognosticators predicted democrat wins. I don;t know anyone who voted for McCain who will vote for Obama, but I know lots of Obama voters who will vote for Romney or not vote at all. I live int eh bluest of the blue in Massachusetts and polls say Warren is beating Brown but there are Brown yard signs everywhere and hardly a Warren sign to be seen. I have Romney and Brown bumper stickers but am afraid to put them on my car because I don;t want it keyed.
I think Ace is doing it exactly right. How can you start a preference cascade if no one says things out loud. I thought that is the point of people like Ben Stein and Clint Eastwood saying our dear Leader is an empty suit or chair or TFG.

No.

The media has had a surge in the past two weeks.  Any blip in the polls or any perception of an Obama "surge" is a direct result of the shameless partisan knee-padding of the media.  Period.

In fact, the past two weeks for Barack Obama have been, by any objective measure, two of the worst weeks that a sitting president has experienced in recent memory.

And that includes 9/11/2001.

360 2008 was an enormous aberration and you cannot compare any presidential campaign to that one. It simply does not apply. All the rules were broken, all of the patterns were disrupted. It just was a freakish event that happens once a generation or less often and is not going to be repeated again, perhaps in our lifetimes.
It took a vast groundswell of animosity toward Republicans, a sycophantic, worshipful press, a massively disliked opponent and a godawful, pathetic campaign by McCain to get a win for Obama, and he only got 53% of the popular vote.
He has none of that this time around. Not one bit of it. The press is definitely on his side, but not in the absurd, cringing bitch way they were in 2008. Nobody is portraying Obama as the "lightworker" or putting halos around his head this time around. They are defending him out of desperation, not worship.

You are of course availing yourself of all this as often as possible, right?

The bumper stickers and pins are not that useful unless you're equipped to overpaint them, but coroplast signs are great for repairing animal gnawed holes in barn walls and temporarily repairing busted panes on multi-pane windows.

Coroplast is also great for making cheap R/C planes.  There's a whole subculture of R/C enthusiasts that do that.

I know it is bullshit because Obama only won Pennsylvania by 10% in 2008 - who the fuck believes that this guy is going to get more support in Pennsylvania (or anywhere else) than he did in 2008?  Or even the same amount of support?  The Obama campaign doesn't even believe that.  If they don't believe it, why the fuck should I believe it?  The whole purpose of the poll and articles "reporting" the poll is to give voters false perception of inevitability and futility.

^^^^

I just can't stress enough that if people have time, they spend an hour a week in their phone bank or canvassing. Esp if they're feeling despondent. It helps turning off the news. Plus it helps surrounding yourself with like-minded folks.

I, prob like a lot of folks here, have some fatalistic tendencies. So when I get in my own head too much. I drive over to my local Victory Center. Chances are I'll see the same people I saw the from week before. These folks are amazing. No other way to put it. You have retirees that spend 5 days a week in there because they have the time and are scared shitless for their children/grandchildren. There's another guy I work with that has cerebral palsay. Yet he's in there every.damn.day. There's the head of the college Republican group that's there every weekend. She's bringing in kids from the HS to help make phone calls. These HS kids in there that know more than the people they're talking to (sad thing on that is that they're too young to vote!). They're all minorities. Not to cherrypick here and say 'oh look - here's one on our side!' That's the bullshit the media does. I only said that to  to put into context that there are people who are very motivated to see Obama gone. And they're from all walks of life. This 0% of blacks are voting for Romney was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen the media push. And it's not coincidental the moment that "poll" came out - our local phone bank was flooded with "closeted" conservatives. So thank you, MFM!

I'm really not trying to be a Pollyana on this - I *know* we're going to pull this out. It's in my gut.

Then I get home and read twitter and see all the debby downerisms and then it deflates me. So I'm picking and choosing who I'm reading at this point.

374 Ken Royall: "Ace - you are not guilty but Allah CERTAINLY is. He promotes left wing crap all of the time whether he means to or not."

Another validating metric that this actually works: review their headlines.

HotAir has links to the Progressives/NYT all the time. When HA editors quote the headline or juice it up a bit a la Drudge to show anti-conservative spin or eeyorism, the hit counts jump. Readers seem to gravitate to "bad news" and, well, this is the internet and HotAir is going for hit counts - not exclusively but still significantly.

Now, for me, when I see a link to, for example, the NYT, I utterly ignore it. I just junk the link and virtually walk away shaking my head pretty much mumbling, "Why the hell is anyone covering that red rag?" So what does it say about a site that continuously links to outfits we know are discredited? For one, bad news (even if manufactured) sells. Two, poking the readers with a stick can get you money. Three, HotAir is not my top news/politics blog for exactly the mentioned reasons.

381 That it's morale is low.

This is sort of the problem.

We really don't know what the fuck is going on coming off the convention; we have little good data to rely on and it's created a vacuum. Which the democrats and MSM buddies have effectively filled with stories of Romney infighting and doom.

They hit the 'elections over' button as soon as the formal election began the night the DNC ended -- and got to work flooding the networks with stories and talk about how Romney can't win, how the polls show X, etc. Absurd, but effective.

So, the hillbuzz guy has a point only as far as there's no pushback from the conservatives movement on this issue. Which ultimately is fine as it's a cycle, the Romney folks will feel it and adjust hopefully for the better.

The damage is in the money race and depressing fundraising.

"On the other side of the ledger, Republican enthusiasm is at record highs. Righties are champing at the bit to run Prezdint Choombuggy out of office. Check out the trendlines in GOP identification."

I think that was probably during the summer and before the conventions.  Really pretty much everyone, except for  some  people here, are saying this is a loss. Local talk radio(even the most ardent Obama haters are saying this), pundits, and  people saying they will vote for a muslim before they will a LDS candidate. Democrats seem like they are starting to energize their base.

Meanwhile, conservatives and GOPers bicker over this and that. Romney needs to be tough, no Romney spoke too soon.  Romney was never anyone's first choice. Obama is every left leaner's first choice. Not matter what Romney does, conservatives and liberals will be critical. Waiting for Reagan to show up is a waste of time. And I'm afraid many are waiting for 2016, so that a 'true' conservative will show up. I see Republicans, conservatives, and right-leaning independents staying home for this one.

Sorry, Eeyore showed up   at my house today.

I'll put the signs up on the trees at my family's house and in my window at home. When I get a response I'll let you know what they said. They are usually very quick with a response.

Posted by: Sven10077 at September 17, 2012 03:19 PM (LRFds) no I didn't play that card. I said that the people in new york and the people in DC remember 9/11 because they live with it every single day. Not a moment goes by when you don't think of it. I was across from the empire state building the other day and I stopped and said a prayer cause I was very aware of where I was. People in other parts of the country had forgotten it because it didn't directly impact them like it did new yorkers and dc'ers.... btw, that's a normal reaction. I was thinking they are really remembering it now. We have a difference of opinion on this. That doesn't make me a bad person simply because this is my opinion and my frame of reference, it makes you rather intolerant.

403 FWIW Ras has gone from O+5 to R+2 in a week. Gallup has gone from O+7 to O+3 in the last week and that's w/ RVs. The swing state tracker has Romney up 2 in swing states and the GOP just re-took the lead for the Generic Congressional Ballot on Ras today. And i'm pessimistic about this race so i'm just pointing out a good trend for Romney. PS - curious should have been banned A LONG TIME ago. ace, you should read her comments to the female commenters and her attempt at blackmail w/ people's personal info a year or two back during a heated primary debate.

Posted by: AuthorLMendez, Head Of The Projection Desk at September 17, 2012 11:24 AM (yAor6)

404 I actually agree with the broad point, that conservative "opinion makers" have been unusually pessimistic this election.  There is a price for that pessimism, it certainly doesn't mean our side will "work harder" if we're told "it's over" all the time.

Some of it is still sour grapes from the primary (like with the douchebag Erick Erickson who thinks he's some sort of kingmaker), which really is petty at this stage.

The state of the race simply does not warrant these feeling of despair, and it does indeed become a self-fulfilling prophesy.  Rasmussen has Romney WINNING and Gallup has it within the margin of error.  Incumbent Presidents are in the game until the very end, Carter was leading Reagan a week before the election in 1980.

Do you see that palpable excitement now?  That sense of history that you could almost touch?  Fainting?  World tours?  Speeches in stadiums?  The media selling Obama (which feels a lot different than defending/covering Obama)?  Are Dems excited to be voting for Obama (as opposed to voting against the Repub)?  Are indeps / no-info voters excited to be voting for the "first black president!" (tm)?

Let me answer for you: No.

Who's fired up?  When the rubber has hit the road (2010, Wisconsin, Chik-fil-A), Repubs/cons have acted.  Fired up = turnout (the ONLY thing that matters).

408 Ed Anger: The chief of Romney's PA campaign was on the radio this morning. He says they're concentrating on running a focused campaign now emphasizing phone calls, mailers, knocking on doors and social media. That's why you're not seeing/hearing big TV/radio ad buys right now

Which doesn't tell us much.

As in Iowa during the caucuses, where they spent the previous year on voter contact and modeling if they could win, holding back until the data showed at the last minute they could -- they could be making a play.

Or they could be minimizing expenditures as they know they're gone, but want to help down-ticket races. Romney does that as well.

As I said, we have no bloody information (as in reliable data) to really understand where we stand in the race as of Sept 11th.

441 I could understand conservatives running around yelling "we're going to lose" if EVERY poll has us down 7-10 points, but that's not the case at all.

Obama got a one week bounce of 2-3 points that Romney didn't, and now it's over.  Some polls have us up, some down, but it's still a race.  Telling people it's over means they don't donate, don't volunteer, and don't show up on Election Day.

Gallup is supposed to change it's polling from registered voters to likely voter in a couple weeks.  That alone will give several points to Romney.

Elections tend to shift hard in the closing days according to the events on the ground.  People are not going to be getting in line to vote for 4 more years of this, no matter what they tell pollsters.

Well, I wouldn't have known a thing about Hillbuzz, other than it exists, had you not posted that big long whine about it. The guy at Hillbuzz is partially correct in his analysis. It's not that you want Romney to lose; it's that you don't really want him to win. Or to put it more correctly, you want Barack Obama to lose, but you don't really want Mitt Romney to win. You don't care about him, you don't like him, you are not excited about him, he is not your guy. And the same goes for the folks at RedState and Hot Air. In your defense of yourself, Ace, you stated that you worked for five weeks on Republican campaigns. Not Romney's campaign. Republican campaigns. Because you don't give a rat's ass about Romney, other than the fact that he is not Barack Obama. When's the last time Red State, Hot Air, or your site posted a long positive post on Mitt Romney, and why he is right for this country? How about never. Once in a while we get a grudging compliment, or that "hey, he's not Obama" post. Little else. If you can't convince yourselves, how can you convince others? How about it, Ace? How about a nice long post telling us all why you think Mitt Romney will make a great President, that does not boil down to "hey, he's not Obama"? In fact, don't mention Obama at all. If you can't do it, all the Obama bashing in the world isn't going to mean jack shit.

456 Well, I took a peek over at HillBuzz. What a flouncy, over-the-top post. You know what's NOT helpful right now, Mr DuJan? Starting a conservative blog war. Unless you're just trolling for hits, which I guess is the point of this exercise. My philosophy in general is different strokes for different folks. Erickson does have a tendency to go too inside baseball for my taste, but for other folks he resonates and he's on CNN so starting a friggin' fight with him is beyond stupid. Why not try to engage with him? Honey. Vinegar. Some assembly required. Sean Hannity's rah rah schtick turns me off, but for some people, even some non-GOPers or moderates, he is very persuasive. I recall reading Jon Lovitz a month or so ago saying that it was upon listening to Hannity and realizing he agreed with much of what Sean was saying that helped Jon open his eyes a bit. It's a big tent, isn't it? Moreover, my recollection from 2008 is that the Hillbuzz people were spinning so hard and were so incredibly wrong that a lot of us concluded they were Democrat operatives. Based on the timing of this foolishness, I'm not sure that conclusion was very far off.

469 A couple of points to make. First, I am an optimist. Even if my nightmare comes true and somehow this jackass is voted in again, I will never, ever give up. Never. I am a fighter. Giving up is death to me, and I am not ready for that. I don't read or believe in polls, and haven't since 2000. More media propaganda to cause stress and (somehow) discourage from going to voting booth. Yeah, like that would stop me. Nothing will stop me from voting Romney/Ryan. Nothing. So, MSM, bring it.

There are eeyores out there, even on our side. I have known this and generally ignore it and don't read it. Ace, not saying you are one of them. But I don't think now is the time to start attacking each other like a bunch of lawyers fighting over the spoil. Let's attack everything Obama-like. Join forces and get the truth out to others. This is war, y'all. We are not North freaking Korea.

Let's attack the mainstream media and circle the wagons.

TODAY, people, minutes ago, the viral video going around showing Ambassador's body being dragged around while people yell in Arabic: 1) Some show it as the utter disregard of how his body was treated, with allah snackbar shouted and raised fists. 2) Just now, on Yahoo, on a meme from the WH no doubt... this same video is portrayed as the Libyans shouting with joy that he is alive! allah snackbar!

Now, I don't speak Arabic. I was not there, but a human body was dragged around without respect. I have read the rumors he was treated horribly, as that is what the savages do. I don't know, and out of respect for the family I won't repeat rumors. But I believe these rumors more than I do that he was treated with respect and missing for hours then someone brought his corpse to a hospital five hours later.

The media is totally on the dole of the Obama campaign. You know that and I know that. If nothing else, the past five days proved that, big time with the denial of the WH that they were warned of problems on NINE ELEVEN and ignored them, as a stupid youtube has caused the melt down in the Middle East.

TODAY, also, a Libyan guard has been interviewed that there were no protests, that there was not even "an ant" protesting it was so quiet, then 125 murdering savages attacked as one from three different directions. He pretended to be a gardener and got treatment for his wounds. He said rocket-propelled grenades and other weaponry were used.I believe this story.

So: which story to believe on both accounts? Lovely, gently life-giving Libyans, respectfully dragging an American Ambassador through the building, bumping his body through the door...dragged by one guy under the armpits, while being photographed with cell phones, and not by several men lifting him, trying to spare injury? Or, instead, what your and my eyes show: savages happy he is barely alive and victory. allah snackbar

The other story, of the "demonstrations" due to the video--the MSM message. This vs a consulate Libyan guard who said, as the heads of Libya state, this was a coordinated mission after warnings to the Americans.

Which stories do you believe? And if you believe that the MSM is lying like a rug, then don't you think we need to join forces and fight this and not fight within our ranks? Our ranks include everyone and anyone who wants to see Obama defeated in November. Hillbuzz, Hot Air, whoever. Let's roll.

Posting irritating little things, over and over...week after week....interspersed with conservative-sounding things to garner support....

It tries to act pitiful, whenever people attack 'her'.

That gains h/s/it some sympathy...from people who are not paying attention.

But is it wrong to point out the severly tilted sampling bias in some of these polls?

The biggest doom-bringer of them all, the NBC Poll that had Obama +7 in Ohio was a 38-28, Democrat to Republican skew. NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE STATE HAS THERE BEEN A TURNOUT SKEWED THAT MUCH IN FAVOR OF DEMOCRATS. Is it not a good thing to point this out, or am I being to "rah-rah?"

475 Rasmussen--

Romney: 47%
Obama: 45%

--and this is on a Monday, with all three, pro-Democrat weekend days in the poll.

Obama's post-convention bump is totally gone, but Romney's is not.

Remember, Romney trailed the President by two before the Republican convention in Tampa. After the convention, he was up by about 3 points. The Dem convention netted Obama a bounce of no more than 1 point, and probably less because we are looking at only weekend days here.

Takeaway: The Republicans won the convention battle.

477 Ace, it is silly to accuse you of demoralizing the troops.

I don't mind hearing bad news based on independent analysis: e.g. yours or Ben Stein's.

What grates, what hurts? Posts that take "bad news" from media-based polls and act as if it forms some kind of objective data set. The media-based polls, including those from Fox News, are shot through with subjective assumptions. Why act as if they reflect some kind of "reality" that we have to deal with?

Media-based polls (MBPs) reflect reality like a funhouse mirror, only it is a funhouse mirror that always makes Obama look tall and slim and that always makes Romney look short and fat.

The only results from MBPs worth paying attention to are when they show a positive result for Romney. Why? It is an admission against interest, as when a defendant in a murder trial says he did hate the dead man with a passion. Everything else the defendant says could be a lie, but his incriminating statements are probably true.

Likewise, anything the MBPs say in Romney's favor is probably true, because it is an admission against their self interests--seeing Obama re-elected.

"I think Hillbuzz' complain is valid, certainly for Eric Erickson, and some of the stuff AP posts. There is a fine line between lying to ourselves about the polls, telling ourselves that it's the Bradley Effect and then getting beat like in 2008. On the other side is going too Eeyore, taking polls that are spun and letting them get us into a funk.

Posted by: Hope You're Right at September 17, 2012 02:16 PM (lHTEq)

I agree. And, as Wyatt's Torch pointed out it doesn't hurt to tear yourself away from the computer for a few hours and do some phone-calling and canvassing down at the local Romney-Ryan HQ. Yeah, sometimes you get moonbats yelling at you (or, since I'm in a swing state, maybe they're just people sick to death of being nagged by pollsters and campaign people). It's still doing something constructive.

And I generally like HillBuzz. Kevin's DNC convention posts were very funny. Yeah, the guy was for Hill in 2008 - he now says he wouldn't vote for her if she were running. I'm a former liberal myself, so my tendency is to welcome the converted, not to spit bullets at them because they didn't emerge conservative from the womb.

482 A rare position for me -- I am a devoted follower/lurker of AOS and HB.  Different tone, different perspectives, different strategies.  Both work for me.  It's about the country and those who are willing to fight for it.  The nit picking at RS got to be too much.  And EE's support of his colleague Peter Hamby's post soliciting campaign donations for Obama was the tipping point.  I'm out.

But it doesn't really matter -- what matters is what we do to defeat Obama.  And for me, recently it has been independents or conservatives who don't want to vote -- don't think it matters --these guys I spend a lot of time with focusing the chat on the country.  Does my artist friend who currently paints seascapes like the By looking out over the ocean? Or Obama walking on the water or parting the sea?  Does my sculptor friend want someone to tell her how many, what kind, where and when she can make and sell her work?  And as for the others who want to endlessly analyze, add up, nit pick etc. I simply present the choice -- America or....?

If Mitt Romney is not doing enough of what "we" want him to do then I guess we are all going to have to pick up the slack, one by one, in our own way to save this country.

If not we better get used to the idea of the midnight knock on the door.

485 I like Hillbuzz's site. They wrote some very hilarious pieces from the DNC convention. Yes, he voted campiagned for Hillary, so did I, but the progresive blinders are off for them, and that is to be comended, appaulded and encouraged for more "progs"/liberals.

488 LMAO. Dang Ace, got your goat, eh? All that? You feelin' better now, bro? Stop being such of thin-skinned sissy. "Oh boo hoo, someone wrote something about me and now I MUST DEFEND MYSELF WITH A 500 HUNDRED WORD WHINE FEST!!!" What, are you Obama and everyone must like you? Accolade, accolade, accolade?? The Hillbuzz boys do actually do a lot themselves, Sparky. Which you damn well know too. They also have way more access to Obama voters than you could ever wish to reach. You're only relevant in our world Ace. Link the damn thing. You should be proud of what you write, not hiding from it, whether it be up-beat, straight talk, doom & gloom, what-the-hell-ever. Let them catalog it. Not linking it implies petulance.

489 Actually, Kevin Dujan is a pansy. An out and proud one.

He's very valuable in his information about the inner workings of the Chicago machine, and as a former member of the Hellary campaign, he's got their number as well.

He also has the skinny on Rahm and Hussein's man-love activities.
