— Ace The patient was misdiagnosed, bad drugs pumped into his system, and now he's in critical condition.
"This is not good," said Dan Greenhaus, chief economic strategist at BTIG, an institutional brokerage. Though the report "does not mean recession for the broader economy, it is still a terribly weak number."The trade group of purchasing managers said its index of manufacturing activity fell to 49.7. That's down from 53.5 in May. And it's the lowest reading since July 2009, a month after the Great Recession officially ended. Readings below 50 indicate contraction.
It's not just that we've gone into contraction in this area -- it's that we did so by a big, sharp fall. At the same time most other indicators are pointing downwards.
This guy says this number doesn't mean recession for the broader economy. I assume he means it doesn't necessarily mean recession.
Okay, that would be fine, if consumer spending, consumer confidence, hiring in other sectors, and GDP were growing. But they're not.

It is possible we could GDP contract for last quarter.
Expectations are between 1.5% - 2.5% GDP. But I think it will be closer to 1.5%.
They are also saying about 100K jobs added in June. But the last several new UE claims have been quite high. They're expecting the UE rate to stay at 8.2%. But it could just as likely go up a tenth or two.
Now if that happens, I don't have to tell you how bad it will be for Obama. There will be talk of recession. And if people start hearing recession, they'll feel recession. Obama will be out on his ass in November.

I have seen other economist who put it at 49% of GDP.
Government spending should not be included in GDP numbers. That is the ONLY thing that is keeping the drop in GDP from showing up as catastrophic.

I am 100% behind the "bad economic news is good news for Romney" meme. It's an interesting observation -- when the Dems talked about this back in 2004 to try to get SKerry elected, there was no discernable effect on the economy...since the Fraud was "elected," the economy has had no real growth thanks in large part to our reluctance to invest and recapitalize.
We can starve the rats and pigs on the left...and we can starve them for another 4 years if needs be....or at least until the shooting war begins, then we can slaughter them.

In "The Measure of a Nation: How to Regain America's Competitive Edge and Boost our Global Standing" statistician and United Nations health economist Howard Friedman compares the United States to 13 other wealthy nations in five key categories: health, education, safety, democracy and equality. His analysis and conclusions are alarming: the U.S. has fallen far behind in most of these areas, causing the nation to become "the Dog" when juxtaposed to its Asian and Western European competitors.
According to Friedman, the biggest challenge for the U.S. centers on the nation's rising income inequality, a problem that led to the Occupy Wall Street protests and one that has become a central theme of President Obama's reelection campaign. The U.S. "has substantially higher levels of income and wealth inequality than our competition," according to Friedman, and Americans' "staunch faith" in U.S. meritocracy is a misconception derived from false notions.
Of course Howie, the best way to restore America's competitiveness is to listen the Occutards or Barry for economic advice. Reading this it's no wonder why the economist always find bad economic new "unexpected". These commie turds actually think this Euro-socialist swill will work

If you go down to the table on the report, you see manufacturer inventories, customer inventories and backlog are all contracting.
Nowadays, that means the word has gone out to supply line management to put the brakes on purchases. At the same time, prices are dropping rapidly, which means supply is still out-pacing demand.
Which mean next month's number should be even worse.

As long as SCOAMF gets his gum to chomp on during meetings with other heads of state, it's all good, right?

Coming to America via Obamacare?
Man who died from dehydration in hospital rang police for a drink of water
The thing that I found most depressing about that story, and indeed about all these awful neglect stories from the NHS, is that the loved ones of the victims never seemed to DO anything to prevent the tragedy. In the case of this poor young man, the mother trusted the doctors and nurses to do their jobs, even when they'd proven they were utterly incompetent. If it had been most Americans, we would have gotten the young man water OURSELVES. We would have been at the front desk demanding a doctor. We would have been furious whirlwinds until someone paid attention to us. We would have called the newspapers and the television news and the local radio stations until someone paid attention.
But in every socialized healthcare nightmare story I read, the victims and the families of the victims sound like drones. They appear to have little to no agency in their own well-being. They're zombies, tied to the premise that the doctors and nurses know more than they do and will take care of them properly, despite any and all evidence to the contrary.
The fact that this young man actually took the steps of calling the police to try and save himself is pretty shocking. The fact that it apparently didn't make any difference whatsoever is not.

Absolutely correct. We went through brain surgery with a loved one at Johns Hopkins. We kept at least two people there at all times and still had trouble getting the basic needs taken care of. We had to raise holy hell to keep him alive.
Do not ever put all your trust in an institution of any kind. Never leave a loved one alone in the hospital for long. Do not be silent.

"Actually, I need a good home defense shotgun for my wife. The 12 gauge 870 is a little big for her (she can't get comfortable holding it), but she's afraid of tactical shotguns."
A youth model semiauto 20 ga. like the Remington 1100 may be the ticket. Less punishing load, recoil soaked up by the semiauto action, and a shorter length of pull on the stock that may fit her better. Heck, they may even sell those at Wal Mart.
