Elderly Couple Forced Out of their Home After Spike Lee's Tweet
— rdbrewer

Spike Lee retweeted what he thought was the address of George Zimmerman. It wasn't. It was the address of an elderly couple in their 70's. And now they're in a hotel out of fear for their safety.

An elderly Florida couple have been forced to move into a hotel after their home address was wrongly tweeted as belonging to the man who shot teen Trayvon Martin.

The tweets were traced back to a man in California and the address was also reportedly retweeted by director Spike Lee to his almost 250,000 followers.

The couple, aged 70 and 72, have been harassed with hate mail, been hassled by media and had scared neighbors questioning them since the tweet, their son Chip Humble told the Orlando Sentinel.

Lee knows that he made a mistake. Yet he hasn't deleted the tweet, and he hasn't apologized. And now he knows what people were talking about when they said let's not have a rush to judgment.

Ace gave him a hilarious twitter beating yesterday. Scroll down to this tweet for the start of it:

Spike Lee's penalty should be that they don't let him make movies anymore. Wait a tick, they already won't let him make movies anymore.

Update: Film Ladd finds that Lee violated Twitter rules. According to the user agreement:

Spike Lee needs to loss his precious court side seats over this.  He's a race baiting POS that is only inciting violence with his actions.

Some moron with law skills needs to take this one pro bono and bury his ass.

12 I had the great displeasure of peripherally knowing Spike Lee when I attended NYU film school in the late 70′s/early 80′s. Usually age mellows a person, but with the passage of time, this malignant dwarf has become even more of a blinkered, philistine, unreconstructed, pig-ignorant bigot and Jew-hater by orders of magnitude. Lee should be taken to court and lose every penny of his ill-gotten money; money he made with films that stereotype in the best traditions of Leni Riefenstahl, Josef Goebbels and Fritz Hippler. This is simply despicable and reprehensible. I wish G-d would resurrect Jackie Robinson long enough to rip his sacred #42 jersey off that putrid race-baiter's scrawny frame and punch him dead in his face.

60 Those 2009 FBI stats on murder on a previous thread were interesting. They show that white murderers select a disproportionately low fraction of blacks as their victims (significantly lower than their fraction of the general population), while black murderers select a VERY disproportionately high fraction of blacks victims (over 80%).  Also, while whites outnumber blacks at something like 6 to 1, there are almost as many murders by blacks as by whites.

82 I'm wondering about all this, and its effect in the crucial swing vote states this fall. Whether in the swing states or not, the black voters will all go for Obama. The only point of all this frenzy seems to be to increase turnout, which will be high anyhow. While this may increase turnout somewhat, that increase is only on less than 15% of the voting public. The backlash, however, might turn out more working-class whites to vote than would have. Will their votes go against Obama, and will the result turn out to be a net decrease in his overall statewide performance, in the all-important swing states?

Dennis Rodman has a problem. Even when he played for the Detroit Pistons, before he got all the ink and piercings, he was a manic depressive.  I don't care for the guy, but the only place he could be normal was on the basketball court, and he was really good back in the day.  But he's got a real medical problem.

Spike Lee is just a mean little guy.  He doesn't care who he hurts, he's just on an ego ride.  This stuff playing out in Florida is a replay of the what happened in Harlem to the Korean groceer or in Crown Heights. Now they are trying to play the same game in Florida.  This is just affirmative action confirmed racism.  Someone in the Media has to find the guts to stand up and start saying this.  It's bad for everyone, including black people.  There is going to be an ugly backlash to this, because it is building up in people's minds.

SERIOUS QUESTION -

Who brought this news story up from the local level to the national level?  I don't necessarily care which person specifically, but which news entity?  I honestly do not know.

BUT, I am willing to wager that it was one who was suffering a lapse in relevancy as a result of the recent Critical Race Theory airing.

CRT got vetted.  People who base their entire livelihood on raaaaacism, particularly of the white -> black variety, realized that their grasp on the importance of their opinions was slipping, so someone quickly sends a research intern on a quest to find the most recent news-story that could serve as a "Grim Reminder."

Zimmerman was the unlucky schlub that happened to be part of a story that looked like a good fit for the "need," at least at first-glance.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if his last time stereotypically reflected his ethnicity, this story would have been passed on by the "national spotlight deciders."

I thought his Malcom X movie was ok....mainly because of Denzel (with an assist from Rog of What's Happenin'? fame). Malcom X did have a conversion late in life where he realized that the black (or any race)-supremicism thing was all bullshit, which is why The NOI had him killed. At least Lee didn't whitewash that part of the story or gin up some phony CIA murder consipracy.

But I totally hated the few other Lee films that I've looked at. Do the Right Thing was the most hateful, racist piece of trash I've ever had to sit through.

http://tinyurl.com/76yefvx

After yesterday, I figured the most likely outcome was the mandate going out, but the law staying.  The BIGGEST tell from today was the Government signalling they would accept the mandate being removed in exchange for dropping the preexisting condition rule.  But the justices weren't buying it.  Even Ginsberg, trying to keep the law alive, talked about "fixing" the law.

I am much more confident than I was yesterday.

195 113. Rush is shocked, SHOCKED, that the SCOTUS doesn't function as a typical jury, arguing round table. "That goes to show just how out-of-touch the SCOTUS is from the rest of us." Hm. That could be a sign of ignorance.

I'm not into law. But really, who is shocked to "find" that Supreme Court Justices WRITE their opinions? Law specialists, kindly set this protocol (if historically consistent) straight for us.

IF the SCOTUS protocol in question has altered over time, when and how? IF the SCOTUS protocol still stands as ever, wouldn't expecting them to alter protocol in order to modernize and reflect current standards of communication be another reflection of revisionism. Is Rush advocating revisionism, the modernization (abbreviation, omiting due process) of constitutional governmental protocol?

Rush might function well as a cheerleader. But he's no scholar. He holds his gossip pulpit on his own. Good for him. But times are dire, and he needs to do more homework in order to enhance his quality of effort and results. Why should the Republican POTUS campaign, for instance, get derailed and off course because Rush dropped the skank bomb?

Also immaterial. For many, many American blacks, the target doesn't matter. Any excuse to rob, assault or kill ANY white will do.  Don't make the mistake of trying to apply reason or logic to their actions or gibberings.

They. Don't. Care.

Don't you see?  The bulk of our black population is effectively... Our very own Palestinian refugee camp.

And no, that is not hyperbole.  They are taught to hate whites with an unreasoning and paranoid fervency only found in your finer Wahhabi madrassas. Only they have names like "Mt. Zion Full Gospel Church of God in Christ."

I grew up surrounded by blacks. I went to school with them, worked alongside them. Hired them. Fired them. On an individual basis, I get along with most of them. Just like whites or any other.

But I'm here to tell you that the unthinking rage and resentment in the black community is WORSE today than it was 30 years ago. These mob assaults on whites - that's only going to get worse.  Mark my words.

212 Was reading post 82 "Whether in the swing states or not, the black voters will all go for Obama. The only point of all this frenzy seems to be to increase turnout, which will be high anyhow. While this may increase turnout somewhat, that increase is only on less than 15% of the voting public. The backlash, however, might turn out more working-class whites to vote than would have. Will their votes go against Obama, and will the result turn out to be a net decrease in his overall statewide performance, in the all-important swing states?

and I thought.... if blacks are 15% of the population, then whites outnumber them and who cares if there is a race war, the numbers are on the side of whites.  Probably not a nice thought....

Every bit of goodwill that existed before his presidency is being squandered and destroyed as it becomes apparent that the goodwill was largely a one way street and that the decades of increasing acceptance by whitey of african Americans is meeting decades of critical race theory and race baiter hatred. there are going to be a lot of very very disappointed moderate liberals when the race rage comes home.

280 School this old Grunt on bittorrent, what is?

Bittorrent is what is used when you hear of people "downloading" movies, software, music, etc off the internet.

It's real simple:

1.  Get a bittorrent software client.  There are lots of different ones.  Google.
2.  Go to a bittorrent search portal like Pirate Bay, Isohunt, Demonoid, etc.  Again, google for them.
3.  Find something you want, then click to download.

Easy.

I intend suicide (am researching and deciding on a method since the method I was going to use is no longer plausible with the writing off of my automobile, and the second method I was going to use fails a lot more than I realized, with horrible injury; also I have some constraints that most people in my position woudn't have in terms of available private location to do the noble act, finances, etc.). The reason I have decided on this course of action is primarily personal with compounding, subsequent pragmatic factors -- also affecting me personally. But when I think about the generation I live in, our utter loss of privacy, the stupidity of people, etc., I must admit this is almost a consolation to me that I have decided on this course. The world is really not that great even though it seemed like it was for a while. And if it is great, it's changing fast, losing what it has always meant to be human.

A very basic Olympic Arms AR15 starts around $600.  They can go up to a couple grand or more.  You should be able to get a perfectly good brand new AR15 in the $800-$1000 range.  Piston converted models tend to be a little more expensive over the standard direct impingement.  I have a Bushmaster AR15 carbine, and it's been great.

Obviously there are red flags you see from time to time like "1000 clean credit card numbers.zip".  You've got to be a complete fucking retard surpassing Joe Biden levels to click on shit like that.  I mean, come on!!!  As long as you take the time to check out the source, see what other people's comments are about the torrent file, then you will be fine.

-----
the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint):

...including petroleum jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes

The petroleum jelly can come in handy during the screening process so is good that they allow it.

Posted by: Sticky Wicket at March 28, 2012 01:16 PM (L7hol)

Zombie Gary Coleman wearing an Obama mask will play Trayvon. The movie will portray him as a saintly little innocent who was a dedicated, hard working straight A student. He was caring for an ill mother (who didn't have healthcare because of racism). When he grew up he wanted find a cure for cancer and racism and homophobia. Zimmerman (played by a blonde actor) will be a neo-Nazi who went to Tea Party rallies and hated anyone of color. And women. And gays. And open minded liberals. The "fact based" story will show how Adolf Zimmerman had been tracking Trayvon (because he was so wonderful and saintly) for some time and it was a premeditated murder. The cops (all stereotypical Southern rednecks) were in on the murder. The movie will end with a message from Barry saying how opposing anything he wants is racism and caused Trayvon to be dead. And voting Republican kills black people

360 TSA story from last year:

I was coming back from a vacation to the Caribbean with my wife last year and the old guy in front of me got "random-ed" for a full search at Charlotte.  It's one special search where they pull you out of the line and put you in a clear windowed box next to the lines in front of everyone.  They dumped this 70 year old white guy in there and then left him standing.  It took me another 20 minutes to clear the metal detector but the old guy was still standing there waiting for whoever from TSA was supposed to come and give him the reach-around.  He probably waited there another half hour too.  Poor guy probably missed his flight.  A passenger in front of me asked the TSA how they picked him out and he told him that the software randomly selects a passenger from time to time so no one can claim they're being singled out.

367 Be sure to consider DPMS for your AR's.  I would strongly suggest AGAINST piston AR's, and I don't suggest Delton's although in a few years that will probably change- best to stick with well-proven technology.  Make sure you get a dust cover. $1500 will get you something real nice like a BCM or Spike's.  Myself I'd get 2 cheaper ones instead and spend more money on ammo.  It's all about practice and familiarity... in general just like cars don't get the cheapest or most expensive-

395 Neurology, our brain's frontal lobe's ability to make a thought as real as "reality" is separates humans from beasts.

A person may as well think in terms of what he/she wants to see as "reality".

Work from the premise of something you love, and project yourself towards a goal that you love. That's William Whitecloud's take on life's power. Neurologists have found that we can retrain our brain out of "bad habits" of thought/neural patterns; but must choose to replace the "bad habit" with a positive and productive thought pattern.

Sorry,   the  DI   system's   problems  remains  unsolved,  excess  heat   and  fouling  blow  back   directly  into   the  receiver  requiring  frequent  cleaning  to  prevent  jamming;  something  a  piston  system  doesn't  do.   The  problem  is  made  worse  in  the  M-4  varient  because  of  the  shorter  barrel;  Stoner  designed  that  system  for  a  20"  barrel.   M-4s  in  Iraq  where  burning  out  barrels  after  2000  rounds  and  had  to  go   back  to   depot  for   rebuild.

I  have  several   ARs   built  with  the  Adam's  piston  system  and   after  10,000  rounds  I've  had  no  failures.  Piston  systems  don't  foul  unless you  don't  read  the  manual  and  lube  the  piston.   The  most  reliable   rifle  the  U.S.  ever  fielded  was  the  M-1 /M-14  series  and  they're  piston  driven.

Living knowing the person I've loved the most in my life never wants to see or talk to me again isn't something I've been able to handle. That isn't going to change. I've tried. Random, just on a note of extreme personal selfishness, who were you planning on giving the burden and trauma of finding your grisly corpse to?

Posted by: DAve at March 28, 2012 10:38 AM (BV23D)

406 Well DAve, I know I can take some planning steps in that regard, right? Something people otherwise can't. But anyway, it depends on the method I ultimately choose. Not family, but other than that, have no idea at this point. If our society was free, then I could notify the authorities in advance and thus have a better outcome that way for the general public. But alas it isn't, a fact I'm not responsible for, so I may have to prioritize that lower down the list. I agree with Holland when it comes to assisted suicide, incidentally.

410 Diogenes had the right idea when it came to bodies. >>> There are conflicting accounts of Diogenes' death. He is alleged variously to have held his breath [not likely!]; to have become ill from eating raw octopus; or to have suffered an infected dog bite. When asked how he wished to be buried, he left instructions to be thrown outside the city wall so wild animals could feast on his body. When asked if he minded this, he said, "Not at all, as long as you provide me with a stick to chase the creatures away!" When asked how he could use the stick since he would lack awareness, he replied "If I lack awareness, then why should I care what happens to me when I am dead?" At the end, Diogenes made fun of people's excessive concern with the "proper" treatment of the dead. The Corinthians erected to his memory a pillar on which rested a dog of Parian marble.

You are CHOOSING to be pathetic whining like a big titty baby. You did something, offending the love of your life. Grow up. Make amends, including getting over your self indulgent addiction to the morose. Don't expect to get someone's loyalty or love as a prize, either. Relationships are complicated. You just admitted your lack of empathy, referencing the hardships of other people as irrelevant to you. Start from there, because without empathy, you're stuck on yourself beyond what's socially acceptable. If you're really lost, and can't do-it-yourself-improvement, then find professional help if you need an authority figure to tell you what to do next. Just remember, in the end, it's up to YOU to identify with a loving thought. REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: Happiness comes from within. No one or nothing will "fix" the world to suit your selfish demands and "make" you happy. No person and no addiction will "MAKE" you happy. Many a marriage has broken as soon as the couples realize what love means and what love requires to thrive and/or survive through the hardships in life, no matter what.

She left me though, twice, once as a love and once as a best friend ... and she just has no right to control what I do. I'm trying to figure out how to get my cousin off her Facebook account so she doesn't find out. But it's hard both because I can't reach my cousin and I think she's pretty selfish. The odds of her doing it because I ask her to are about nil. But I'll give it a shot and that's the most I can do.

417 >>> You just admitted your lack of empathy, referencing the hardships of other people as irrelevant to you. No, that isn't it. Life is a very hard place and I know others suffer, feel joy, etc. I am not unemphatic. I often get angry at things out of a sense of injustice because of people suffering on a lot of topics. What I'm saying isn't that their suffering doesn't matter. I'm saying that the fact other people are more resilient and able to get over more difficult things doesn't make me able to get over this. I respect them for their robustness and ability, but mine is exhausted. I'm reminded of Kurt Kobain's suicide note because you DO have a good point when you write this, "You are CHOOSING to be pathetic whining like a big titty baby." He wrote, "Thank you all from the pit of my burning, nauseous stomach for your letters and concern during the past years. I'm too much of an erratic, moody baby! I don't have the passion anymore, and so remember, it's better to burn out than to fade away." I don't think anyone, least of all Kurt Kobain, would have confused him with a font of emotional stability and maturity in the face of adversity. There could be various reasons for that. Maybe it was his early attachment upbringing. Maybe it was genetics. Maybe he had it at one point, but became overwhelmed by stressors and lost his resiliency. Maybe he was just a whiny selfish asshole who chose to be that way. But he was that way, right? Well I identify a lot more with him than I do with people overcoming their problems. You can despise me for it, pity me for it, hold me in contempt for it, or disbelieve me ... but that's how I am. I was once a courageous 16 year old who'd live off the land for months at a time, travelling alone hundreds of miles. And now? This.

Quit all social media involving her.  Now you're just acting like a creepy stalker.  That's a choice on your part.  The scab you keep scratching is getting infected.  Stop scratching it.

Point two: you're not failing to deal with the activities of daily living because you're depressed, you're depressed because you're failing to deal with the activities of daily living.  Start there.  Only in such a wealthy land would you logistically be capable of such a lackadaisical approach to your own existence. The sooner you stop digging the easier it will be to climb out.

If it wasn't her job to keep you prosperous than why is your prosperity so dependent on her?  I wouldn't want that pressure on me either-

Seems like you're throwing a tantrum because someone took away something you wanted.

Kurt Kobain was a total f**king asshole.  You have never lost anything compared to what his child lost- believe that-  And now you justify that and hold him up as an exemplar???

Your judgement is horribly (but temporarily) compromised: talk to someone who's thinking more clearly.

420 Quit all social media involving her. Now you're justacting likea creepy stalker. I haven't talked to her in almost a year. I'm aware my cousin is on her FB account. She lives in another country. Since she doesn't want to talk to me, if I die, she won't find out ... unless my cousin is on her FB account. As far as prosperity goes, I have no use for prosperity. I guess I'd take it if I had it, but I have nothing worthwhile to do with it anymore. That's why I've taken no efforts to get it or keep it.

423 I actually did work before. But now the thought of working to perpetuate my life is awful. Talk about futility ... work ... means get to live longer ... and this is a good thing ... how? That's why I didn't get a job. Under my own preferred political scheme, undoubtedly I'd be shot. At the very least, I should starve and freeze to death. But that's probably not going to happen.

424 >>> My elderly Grandfather absolutely adored Grandma and couldn't bear to live after she died. God bless him, "the salt of the earth". Sounds like a good man. I know exactly how he feels minus the being a good man part. Not trying to be sarcastic. I'd say that's about it. Her grandparents met in WW2 and loved each other up to the very end. Was wonderful. Fantastic people. She deserved that, but got me instead.

425 Speaking of grandparents, that's exactly what Spike Lee did, isn't it? He put two loving people who've been together for a long time in fear of their lives and chased them out of their home. Good people, probably. The best sort. I don't know what a person could feel ashamed about if they couldn't feel ashamed about doing that.

Have you found a pro shrink?
Have you tried anti-depressants?
Have you tried 1/2 drowning like the one MASH where Potter gas-masks the guy to see if you really want to die?

What are you going to do if you succeed and God slaps you in the back of the head and says "Hey, I wasn't done yet!"

430 >>> Have you tried 1/2 drowning like the one MASH where Potter gas-masks the guy to see if you really want to die? The autonomic nervous system's response to having your air forcibly or otherwise shut off is not, repeat not, a strong argument on the topic of suicide. Here's a simpler one: Death is inevitable. Why not choose one at a time and place that suits you?

Posted by: Random at March 28, 2012 12:01 PM (EnR4l)

431 >>> What if the Hindus are right and he just sends your ass thru again? One, this: http://youtu.be/MyJA7J7LTao Two, there's no evidence for any God. Three, if there is, there's no evidence God gives a damn about whether we kill ourselves -- It plainly allowed the option. "But still they tell us, we must patiently endure the evils which God inflicts, and make a merit of our sufferings. This application however of the maxims of Christianity, is very ill calculated to satisfy our judgment. Man is subject to a thousand troubles, his life is a complication of evils, and he seems to have been born only to suffer. Reason directs him to shun as many of these evils as he can avoid; and religion, which is never in contradiction to reason, approves of his endeavours. But how inconsiderable is the account of these evils, in comparison with those he is obliged to endure against his will? It is with respect to these, that a merciful God allows man to claim the merit of resistance; he receives the tribute he has been pleased to impose, as a voluntary homage, and he places our resignation in this life to our profit in the next. True repentance is derived from nature; if man endures whatever he is obliged to suffer, he does, in this respect, all that God requires of him; and if any one is so inflated with pride, as to attempt more, he is a madman, who ought to be confined, or an impostor, who ought to be punished. Let us, therefore, without scruple, fly from all the evils we can avoid; there will still be too many left for us to endure. Let us, without remorse, quit life itself when it becomes a torment to us, since it is in our own power to do it, and that in so doing we neither offend God nor man. If we would offer a sacrifice to the supreme Being, is it nothing to undergo death? let us devote to God that which he demands by the voice of reason, and into his hands let us peaceably surrender our souls." -- David Hume http://tinyurl.com/7we49zm

If you're so sure you want to dry try and will it yourself.

Here's a simpler one: Death is inevitable. Why not choose one at a time and place that suits you?

Same answer.  Say I'm done, sit there and wait.

I'm not here to debate this.  Just throwing a little truth and other options.  This is the 2nd go round for you.  Get to a pro.

Posted by: DaveA at March 28, 2012 12:12 PM (wdkyI)

433 >>> If you're so sure you want to dry try and will it yourself. You can't will it. The autonomic nervous system does what it does. It operates at a more basic level than personality-based decisions made in the pre-frontal lobes. That's the major problem with suicide. When you kill another person, as they become injured and disabled and in pain, this increases your ability to carry out your decision. With suicide, it's the opposite. You pretty much have to start and end with a coup de grace. And while that can happen, it usually doesn't. The body wasn't meant to die instantly as a rule. So it's a problem that has to be overcome. >>> Here's a simpler one: Death is inevitable. Why not choose one at a time and place that suits you? Because it F'n hurts and I'm tired of it. Besides, I don't have the ability to take effective actions to sustain my life anyway. >>> Same answer. Say I'm done, sit there and wait. Again, instincts can make it hard. I don't even have a place to live. I don't have money to buy a private place. Maybe a shared room on welfare, but I can't be bothered to do this. I have thought, per Hegesias of Cyrene, that I would restrict food and water and die by this method -- as many people have. But where? I don't have a place where I could do even that comfortably. I'd have to do it in nature, exposed to the elements as well. I don't trust myself to be able to overcome resisting my survival instincts during such trying and physically painful circumstances. So, to accomplish the goal, I have to use a more tolerable quicker method, and strike the coup de grace.

437 >>> Find some sort of "cause" first, so the people left behind can use you as a poster. The main causes I care about are legalization of suicide for anyone, freedom to buy appropriate tools for suicide, assisted suicide, etc. I know life can be painful and, out of empathy for others as well as libertarian principles, I oppose our society's coercion in this regard. I support people's freedom and, what's more, I think suicide is often a good choice. I would say there are probably more people who don't kill themselves who should, than people who kill themselves who shouldn't. A person who believes life has inherent value would see that differently. I don't. I believe the quality of life is the only thing that matters. And we should both be free to believe as we wish and follow our own principles to whatever end, provided we're not directly harming others. I don't mean others feeling emotional hurt over our actions or lack thereof--that's inevitable with or without suicide. You know what I mean. We should each have control over our own bodies, but not others' bodies.

There's no reason I need to do any of these things. And definitely not in the way you suggest. I've done other things. There's nothing bad about suicide that I have to prevent it, to start with.

I wish your friend well, but I think he's making a hell of an error. But it's his right. That's an action I will never even think about taking. It also has a neutral, at best, effect on suicidality, and probably increases it overall.

444 DaveA, your thinking is the one that's off. There is no possibility of surviving forever; there is no good reason to believe in life after death. It's perfectly rational to end an unenjoyable existence. And even if I might have enjoyed it more than ot in the future, it's still a small mistake. A few decades of mixed pleasures and pains, lost, and experiences, none of which I'll remember. In a universe 13.7 billion years old, myself one of 7 billion upper-order thinking feeling beings and counting. Not a big deal.

But that's like saying there's no downside to running a cheese grater over the back of your hand, repeatedly for years. Emotional pain may not seem a sufficient reason to outsiders looking in, but on the inside, it's a whole lot different. And neuroscientists know it really, actually hurts.
