— Ace A little earlier than scheduled -- because on that day the quarterly GDP growth estimate for the 3rd Quarter.
And it appears that the economy is slowing -- and it was already stagnant.

Now you may wonder if Obama would permit any sort of 1% or lower reading on the economy, or would demand it be fudged upwards.
But that's a silly thing to wonder. Of course he'll demand it be "revised."
[A Goldman forecaster] said she agrees with Goldman economist Jan Hatzius’s forecast of the second half being more “difficult” than the first. “We have seen some deceleration in economic activity” after a mild winter that might have “puffed up” seasonal growth in the first quarter, she said.
Pethokoukis almost exclaims:
Wait, the second half will be “more difficult” than the first? We might be lucky to have 2% growth in the first half.
This may be the best Obama can do.
But it's not the best America can do.
As Goes California... ...so goes the nation?
A lot of people throw the word "unsustainable" around without really appreciating its simple meaning: This will not be sustained. It will end.

If things get better or remain the same, Obama will win.
If Romney can't out-fund-raise Obama for at least one period (month or quarter), Obama will win.
If Romney doens't lead Obama by > MOE right before election, Obama will win.
To recap:
Romney must raise more money than Obama for a single month; must lead in a poll by greater than the MOE; and the economy and gas must remain the same or get worse to defeat Obama.

Krugman has long maintained that the government's policy response in recent years has been either weaker than, or the opposite of, what it should have been.
The original Federal stiumulus, for example, wasn't big enough, Krugman says. And the recent moves of Republican-controlled states to cut spending have made the problem worse, not better.
Why?
Because the spending cuts have led to job cuts, which have led to further spending cuts. And so on. Europe, Krugman observes, is charging down the same disastrous path, and it is now plunging into another recession.
Just look at the reality, Krugman says. People have been predicting hyperinflation and runaway interest rates for years, and they're just not happening. The best way to fix our problem, Krugman adds, is to grow our way out of the problem and to generate modest inflation to gradually reduce the real (inflation-adjusted) burden of debt. But instead of focusing on these two goals, Krugman observes, our government keeps cutting spending and obsessing about 2% inflation.
Keep printing and spending. Forward! To Zimbabwe!

This is TRULY the first time I've ever wished for bad news to affect a good political outcome. For once, I think it is justified to hope that, even with the real human pain and distress that it will bring, the economy would do the long-term trajectory of the country a huge favor by diving into the basement.
We can get back to economic growth when we're not just riding the inevitable pendulum-swing back to positive growth due to nothing more than the business cycle sine wave. Instead, when proper, non-insane policies are in place that actually PROMOTE growth, respect contracts and property, and enhance the conditions necessary for capital to be risked against competition and not a stacked deck and rigged game of governmental activism and fixing for cronies of the state, THEN the economy can grow. For now, though, I want us bumping along the bottom, and the blame firmly fixed on the destructive crew that is taking us down to an unrecoverable spin-out.
The worst thing would be juuuuust enough barely-good-enough economic news to allow these idiots and evil SOBs to keep hamstringing the country into ruin for another four years. And the way they mismanage everything they touch, that is the absolute best they're going to be able to do, relying on an upswing that was going to happen anyway, and then, post-election, they kill it in its crib.
Hope for bad things until November, and pin it on the people responsible for it. Sounds bad, but this election is WAY more important than the next two quarters of economic statistics.

He's got nothing to lose except the failed states themselves. And they, by definition, are already deep blue.

I'm not celebrating the decline ONE DAMN BIT, idiot. Go to Daily Kos where they're lovin' on storming private property and confiscating wealth. Have a listen to Jon Lovitz, who is discovering that liberals don't like prosperity.

If Republicans are tired of the baby marxist scent marking on our collective heads then we will win. We need an historic turn-out but it can be done...Are you tired of this bastard cocking his leg and pissing on this country and the people who give everything they have to make it for their families while this turd spends trillions like he changes shirts?

GDP: the three quarters leading up to Reagan's reelection
1st: 7.4
2nd: 5.0
3rd: 2.3
Where did you get those numbers? According to TradingEconomics.com, the real GDP growth rate increases for all four quarters of 1984 are:
1st: 8.0%
2nd: 7.1%
3rd: 3.9%
4th: 3.3%
Let's also not forget the real GDP growth rate increases for all four quarters of 1983:
1st: 5.1%
2nd: 9.3%
3rd: 8.1%
4th: 8.5%
As a comparison, the real GDP numbers under Obama have never grown more than 3.9% in a quarter, with the growth rate being 2.5% or lower in six of the past seven quarters.
