Election Night Liveblog
— andy

Good evening morons, moronettes and assorted Internet folk. This, right here, is what we've been waiting for since we sat forlornly looking at the el-cheapo, pre-broken plastic skittles-shitting unicorn we got in November 2008 thanks to the 53% idiots being suckered by those commercials that made it look all cool and stuff.

No more! At worst, the SCOAMF/T limps across the goal line having run out the clock with a big assist from the replacement refs in the MFM. But the only mandate he'll have will be Reggie Love.

And, of course, there's the upside case. We may just have us a new President-elect. I doubt he'll surround himself with the trappings of the titular office like you-know-who did.

We'll know shortly, Lord willing.

In honor of the momentousness of this occasion, the old liveblog software has been brought out of retirement. Or, rather, bought out. It better not suck.

Also, in addition to the usual liveblog cast of characters, CAC's AoSHQ Decision Desk tweets will also appear in the chat stream, so you'll simultaneously be the most entertained and informed people on the planet as the results roll in.

Remember, comments are moderated so be funny, insightful or bribe the mods if you want them to make the cut. And of course we'll play favorites as usual so there's that (apologies in advance to Wiserbud).

Enough blabbing. Let's do this thing!

22 The only option I think we have left, should Obama win and the Senate get bluer:

Give them what they want.  Stop playing tug of war.  Let go of the rope.  Let them hang themselves with it.

If a majority of the American people voted for that, give it to them, in spades.  Meanwhile, we prepare.  We entrench, and we wait for them to devour themselves.

Should TFG win this, it's the low information voter who doesn't know what F&F is, thinks a video caused Benghazi, thinks Obama cares about them, etc

The MBM can't cover for the JEF forever. Shit is coming and even the low information voter won't be more informed about Twilight and Glee than the economy and foreign affairs.

In Michigan,

1. Prop 1, which would allow emergency managers to renegotiate contracts with unions, looks like it will pass.

2. Prop 2, which would invalidate nearly all existing laws limiting public sector unions, failed soundly.

3. Prop 3, a 25% renewable energy mandate, failed soundly.

4. Prop 4, the forced unionization of home healthcare workers, failed soundly.

(Now, how Michigan can vote so rightly on these four and still vote Obama, you tell me.)

Look, I'm Catholic, the Church in the US bet the farm on the idea and good intention that they could focus on immigration reform over solid catechesis because they come to this country anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage. And now they are confused why Hispanic Catholics are becoming unaffiliated religiously, and why they have to import Seminarians from Latin America just so they can have Priests for Immigrant parishes. They literally don't understand that Hispanic Catholics aren't making the connection that TGF is Anti-Catholic, BOTH Fiscally and Socially.

318 Ha! Washington DC....Obama got 93% of the vote. It is getting hard to stay calm about the legitimacy of the election these days.

321 299 Oooh, what came first, the troll or the reg?

Posted by: D. R. Ainbough at November 06, 2012 07:12 PM (BgIBZ)

322 Well if the media is correct then Obama won...I can't believe it. They cheated well

Posted by: Jimi at November 06, 2012 07:13 PM (uvNSk)

323 It's over. Obama wins.

Posted by: james at November 06, 2012 07:13 PM (1PqiV)

324 It's the adm. that gives us a very strong pro gun law.

Posted by: dixie 69 at November 06, 2012 07:13 PM (6uJs9)

325
Obama just widened his lead in FL to 40,000 votes.

326 It's over!

Obama has won Ohio!

327 Fox calls Ohio for Obama.

Have a nice evening.
I'm done.

328 you see the electoral votes?  It's over.  I am so depressed.  I've never shed tears over an election before.

329 Its over, Fox called Ohio for TFG

Posted by: DeusExMachina at November 06, 2012 07:14 PM (6RTwM)

330 Fox just called Ohio for 0

331 Fuck

Posted by: James Madison at November 06, 2012 07:16 PM (Il8JM)

332 Infidel

Evan Williams is dang good whiskey at a dang good price.  Comparable to Jim Beam, but a bit smokier.  Much better than over-priced and over-rated Jack Daniels.  Go for it.

Posted by: Horace at November 06, 2012 07:16 PM (Y2YJ4)

333 Wow! I'm ashamed to be American if Obama is actually winning. My future just got flushed down the toilette

Posted by: Jimi at November 06, 2012 07:17 PM (uvNSk)

334 Fox just called it for TFG.

Posted by: joanne at November 06, 2012 07:17 PM (VNFBf)

335 Amazing!

Posted by: Jimi at November 06, 2012 07:18 PM (uvNSk)

336 This can't be right...this country cannot be this stupid! The bright side is...that once in our history Democrats get to finally take the blame for the destruction they have caused.

Posted by: Jimi at November 06, 2012 07:20 PM (uvNSk)

337 So, what the fuck do we do now?

Posted by: NotSoLoneWolfinNC at November 06, 2012 07:25 PM (LN5eJ)

338 Since the price of energy will skyrocket, i'm buying a woodburner.

339 Rove is saying Obama is up 900 votes in Ohio with 20% left.

Posted by: james at November 06, 2012 07:28 PM (1PqiV)

340 Curious, how many of you guys are younger than 30? I am, and I'm really sad to think that because of the stupidity of the baby boomer generation, my future is - I'll be generous - in doubt.

Especially considering that the previous generation was handed a country that was the world leader in every way. That was (is? can I even say that?) the beacon of individual liberty for the world over.

We're flushing it all for what? Food stamps. Section 8 housing. "Free" healthcare. "Free" contraception.

This is a crime against morality, against ethics. Put against any measure, the apparent will of the people is just wrong.

Posted by: NotSoLoneWolfinNC at November 06, 2012 07:32 PM (LN5eJ)

341 339 Rove is saying Obama is up 900 votes in Ohio with 20% left.   _____________________   I know I've sounded like a broken record all night, but where in the state are those 20% of votes coming from?

Posted by: Marybeth at November 06, 2012 07:32 PM (fkaOH)

342 Fox now has Romney up by 3000 votes in Ohio.

Posted by: no good deed at November 06, 2012 07:54 PM (mjR67)

343 Well, this sucks.

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 07:54 PM (kaalw)

344 Well OH based on all the online maps is actually going to Romney by 6k votes

Posted by: BillS at November 06, 2012 07:55 PM (kD5zU)

345 I can't decide if Rove has cracked or if I shouldn't care and drink some of whatever he's drinking.

Posted by: JeepGirl at November 06, 2012 07:56 PM (q5Nrh)

346 What's wrong?

Posted by: rdbrewer at November 06, 2012 07:56 PM (Iyg03)

347 Wouldn't it be something if we woke up tomorrow and Romney hit 270?

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 07:56 PM (kaalw)

348 It's like hitting the end of one of those moving sidewalks at the airport.....we were clipping along in the chat, and then.....

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 07:58 PM (kaalw)

349 He's spinning now to say he was concerned about the procedures for calling states, but he was really going a bit crazy talking about Ohio for awhile.

Posted by: JeepGirl at November 06, 2012 07:58 PM (q5Nrh)

350 I don't really know how much Sandy did or didn't do for TFG. It's all about complacency, and those people who currently have jobs or currently have the dole are too complacent.

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 07:59 PM (kaalw)

351 Romney leads by 20k votes with 80% counted in Ohio

Posted by: BillS at November 06, 2012 08:01 PM (kD5zU)

352 Why is no one commenting on the fact Romney is up by 21k in Ohio?

Posted by: AngryCon at November 06, 2012 08:03 PM (gxU10)

353 351 Romney leads by 20k votes with 80% counted in Ohio

Posted by: BillS at November 07, 2012 12:01 AM (kD5zU)

If he doesn't get FL as well, it won't matter. And, even then, there's a mighty thin path forward. WI could flip back -- they're only at 68% reporting, and TFG is only at 51%....but we're certainly not ahead outside the margin of fraud.

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 08:06 PM (kaalw)

354 I would love to wake tomorrow with some sense that our national nightmare is drawing to an end. But right now, I'm wondering how fast I can turn my stocks into bullion.

Posted by: cthulhu at November 06, 2012 08:07 PM (kaalw)

355 Yeah I see projections have Obama at 281 EC votes. On the terms on mail in ballots I have to wonder how many of those are counted or in yet and if that could flip any wins or loses at later date

Posted by: BillS at November 06, 2012 08:09 PM (kD5zU)

356 All I can hope for is for Romney not conceding tonight and not ahving a real answer for a few weeks ala 2000

Posted by: BillS at November 06, 2012 08:13 PM (kD5zU)

357 Rove had different intel than Barrone. And Rove won't cave until he's out of options. But it looks like Rove ran out of options. So, that's that. Pity.

Time for Conservatives to take a vow:

"No more Vegas, Baby!"
