— Gang of Gaming Morons! Good Afternoon/Evening Moron Horde!
I want to thank Ace. Ben for posting it on the sidebar, and every other M&M that re-tweeted the fundraiser for Sean "Vile Rat" Smith's Widow and small children. The fundraising goal has almost been reached (erm they moved it to 150k), so if you have 5, 10, whatever bucks kick it to help out his family. Link I love this community.
More below the fold. Alright. So Gaming shiz.
Know your Zakn....I was on Crossing Zebras podcast covering the nullsec wars in the North and South. I made one mistake, but mostly it's inside baseball because the Alliance I'm in (Gents), grew into it's own under Test. We have been more closely allied with Goons because of where we live as of late, but I'm still a fan of Test. Linky. It was a weird deal doing a podcast. There was no outline, just log into Skype and field Questions and react. By the end I even mental farted on GSOL (Goon Logistics), but it was a neat experience and I enjoyed doing it. So Props to Xander for having me.
The War in the North Stands as I talked about it there. It's a grind and a game of Conkers, aka if you do something dumb, you pay.
On the Eve Front. I am openly recruiting Morons & Ettes. Join the AoSHQ channel and talk to Anyone with a Paxton tag. Newbies Welcome. We'll help you out with books, Ships, all that stuff. If you play WoW, now is the time to head into the real War. We'll help you out Time to head into the Breach, my friends.
Walking Dead. Episode 3 Is pretty Awesome. I don't want to spoil stuff. But Harder decisions. I like that. In a 5 episode Arc, Episode 3 is going to be the bellwether. It's a great game. Buy it if you haven't!
If you want to write posts for the Gaming thread, Hit me up at aceoshqgaming dot com

Also I want to plug Eve Vegas. We got all HuffandaBluff about who is attending. The largest Attendant is Non-Aligned. I personally am excited to hang out with my Gents bros and throw the bones. We'll see how it goes.
Here's The Dude
Yeah, it's me again, some random duder on the net to talk games.
Well, Steam announced the first accepted games through the Greenlight thing. Very nice to see Project Zomboid and Routine make it through. Black Mesa also getting through is interesting as it's not complete though they released what they have so far. They announce the second batch of winners on October 10th.
Couple quick thumbs up for Inquisition and FTL. Found it interesting that they give you the option of not being a torturer in Inquistion, you don't have to be uber douche if you have a soft soul even though the gates of Hell has opened up. Gameplay is oldschool Diablo with a magic and stat system that walks the line of really oldschool cRPG and Arcanum. Pretty graphics if you don't mind isometric cRPGs. FTL on the other hand is pure bliss as it marries the classic rouguelike with space exploration and with a good sized helping of management dressing (placing your crew in the departments they're attuned with, and power and money management). And outside of the standard rouguelike carrot, they even added upgrades and different shuttles). Inquistion is $14.99 at GOG and FLT is $9.99.
Well, Nintendo had their big unveiling of the Wii U and they're finally rolling with tech from 06 priced at $299 for the standard edition which comes with a 8 gig HDD built in and a $350 edition with a 32 gig HDD. Still nothing announced coming for it that I can get the mustard to get hyped about, could if have killed Capcom to announce Monster Hunter 4 instead of a rehash of MoHu 3? And I've grown a dislike for 2d Marios as for the most part they just come off as cheap cash ins using old assets. Once again, I can't but help to think that it will end up having one or two games a year to play because the third party support is shit (been that way since GC, N64 if you discount the AKI's wrestling games). The built in Tivo and DVR is really nice though, which I expect the other two to have in their upcoming systems.
After a week of a teaser site, Obsidian finally announced their kickstarter. The gang of Black Isle studios is back together and they're going to their honey well of an isometric RPG which is even running on the Infinity engine. Such awesome news that quickly had the 1.1 million they asked backed in about 24 hours. With it currently sitting at just over $1.8 million, it will be interesting in seeing how high the total goes.
In news that will shock no one, the Baldur's Gate remaster has been pushed back till November (which it will then be pushed back even farther). I have no hopes for it myself.
The fabled Fire Pro Wrestling franchise finally returned this past week as an avatarded release. Like many others, I scoffed at the game when they showed it over the past few years as it looked nothing like the second best wrestling franchise ever (still partial to AKI's wrestling games on the N64). Well, everyone was correct, it isn't FPW of old but you can't dismiss it off hand as it's decent wrestler in it's own right, especially with it's $10 price point.
Can't wait for next week as Tokyo Jungle finally gets released in the West. Looking forward to it.
Capcom announced an expansion pack to Dragon's Dogma at the TGS. Really loved the game with it's logical improvements to the Monster Hunter gameplay. Just wish it sold better
In sad news, Tetsuya Mizuguchi has stepped away from making games. Don't know what to say but damn. Outside of the disapointing first N3 game (didn't work to either to his or Phantagram's strengths), he knocked everything out of the park. And if you own a Kinect but didn't buy Child of Eden....shame on you as it was the best experiance of last year. Marrying Rez with tripped out hand movements and new Genki Rockets music was gud. On the plus side, maybe we get new Genki Rockets music on a regular basis.
The less I say about Guild Wars 2 the better. I hit 80 and outside of combat (which is quite fun), the game fucking blows. Shit dungeons, lack of variety on quests and the big badass dragon who is the protaginist ends up in a battle that constitues as a turkey shoot to close out the game. What a fucking farce that bullshit was. And with no end game content outside of getting mats for a legendary weapon that has no stat upgrades, the game will very quickly be a ghost town. ANet failed on almost every level of designing a MMO.
At least getting into the HAWKEN alpha test will sooth some of the pain.

And of course Mists of Pandaria drops Tuesday. Its kind of an experiment, they are trying to open up the expansion without a patch; it is supposed to just turn on Tuesday morning at 12:01.

To those that might have played Planetside 1 and didn't like the long defense holds on gens and such, that's not in PS2. PS2 still has bases to take, but the battle is much more fluid and constant.
If anyone's interested enough to bet some cash on it, you can buy into the closed beta for 40 bucks. That 40 also gives equal to 40 bucks station cash upon purchase of the beta as well as some months of extra xp gain and a spayshul cammo uniform upon game release.
For those who are interested but can wait... I mean, like, those who have patience and stuff... the game's gonna be f2p but I don't know if the client will be free upon release or not.
If anyone does join up, DevilDogs 666 is a good outfit. We play on Metis server as New Conglomerate faction.

Your opinion is unique among all people I know and, IMHO, badly supported and reasoned. i.e. 'The combat is quite fun,' but the game sucks. Combat is 90% of an MMO's content. It's not freaking Minecraft. And I notice you mentioned nothing of the WvW system. And complaining about a lack of endgame content when the game is what, a month old? And built on the free-to-play model, which explicitly holds off on endgame content for future expansions? That's just stupid.
It sounds like you're a spoiled 19-year-old who is being a contrarian for the sake of it.
And it's spelled 'protagonist.'
For anyone out there who would like to hear an honest description of GW2: there is a fairly steep learning curve for combat, but once learned it is quite interesting. i.e. there is model collision to get used to; if you aren't line up properly, you will miss. Efficient coding that allows for complex and busy fights with lots of combatants, which are common in the dynamic event system. Crafting is streamlined and easy, with nifty features like being able to use mats straight from your bank. And you get a free "collectible" bank space that can hold up to 250 of each type of raw mat. And you get XP from crafting, so you can level up from it.
Exploration is rewarded with XP, achievements, and hidden treasures from jump puzzles. You can bonus skill points from exploring hard to reach areas and beating special mini-bosses.
You get XP bonuses from helping other PCs and resurrecting friendly NPCs. There is no resource or kill-stealing, and the result is a general atmosphere of cooperation and goodwill in sharp contrast with most online, competitive communities.
Higher level characters are 'leveled down' when you go to lowbie zones, so there is always at least a medium level of difficult (though you keep your skills and many other perks, so it is easier than if you were really a lowbie yourself). It's a good balance.
The complaint that there is no quest variety is simply a lie. Yes, a lie. This game has the most varied quests I've ever seen, and I've been doing MMOs since Ultima Online (1997), before there were quests. Each quest area has at least three actions you can take to fulfill it, mix and match to your pleasure, and there are something like 10 to 15 quest areas per zone. The actions can range from a game of whack-a-mole to emoting with cows to rescuing dead NPCs to simply slaughtering enemies to gathering resources to repairing machines, etc. It is a huge improvement over other 'big' titles like WoW and SWTOR.
These developers actually innovated and took risks with their design, and it has paid off. Aside from the occasional birthing pain (glitched quests or special content, like getting a vista by being hurled with a catapult), it's been a lot of fun.
And, in case you missed it, no subscription fee. Now this means that there are subtle ways to, uh, encourage you to pay micro-transactions for things (like extra bank tabs, etc.), but you don't have to; such things are purchasable also by spending in-game currency. And even if you do choose to pay out real money, if you spend less than you would on a regular subscription (i.e. $15/month) you're still ahead.
I don't know what "TheDude" has against GW2, but his repeated damnations of it have been trite and dishonest. There are many, many good things about it and I'm happier with it than I was with Star Wars. Replayability is much stronger and the use of tactics and siege engines in WvW is perpetually interesting.
I think I'll go play some, now.

Even the NYT is admitting that.
"In the case of Iraq, the American goal has been to leave a stable and representative government, avoid a power vacuum that neighboring states and terrorists could exploit and maintain sufficient influence so that Iraq would be a partner or, at a minimum, not an opponent in the Middle East.
But the Obama administration has fallen frustratingly short of some of those objectives."
Good article. In short, Fuckstick O'Juggy is a dangerous dilettante.

The only disappointments are - inability to tame wild creatures (oh, how I want a griffin to ride about) and the "love interest" is way too random from what I hear. Especially for something that supposedly has a lot to do with storyline. Really don't want a girl to show up in a certain scene...
Guild Wars 2: I played in the Beta and it was fine. Not totally engrossing. A little off putting that female costumes were geared towards lolicrap, especially if a mage type. I'm a bit of a pyro in games, so... yeah. I did like the ability to switch elements and build them up. The Nords ended up my favorite race (although I didn't get much of a chance to get a real feel for the engineer class that I chose for my Nord).
Would I buy it right now? Not really. I didn't end up with that, "I gotta jump on and play GW2 right now!" feeling. It didn't suck, but it didn't really last either. I'll probably eventually get it... and then not play.
I know I'm in a minority, but if SWTOR would port over to the PS3 (keeping current accounts - not like DCUO), I'd probably spend more time playing it. Mostly because I have problems sitting on a computer at home for gaming sessions.
Honestly, CoH failing after so many years is sad, but ... whatever. I've had an account since the beginning, but I can't remember the last time I played. Usually, if I want to get my superhero fix, I'll jump into CO for a quick session. Once CoH went to P2P, I cancelled my monthly sub, seeing how I never really played anymore.

Guildwars 1 was the same thing basicly. Its very pretty and fun to level up. But endgame there isn't anything to really keep you occuppied unless you pvp or grind mats.
But keep in mind its a free to play MMO. They arent goign to make a lot of money off of you playing month after month like wow or eve.
I like it actually. ONly level 30ish last time i checked on only one char, no nagging "OMG I HAVE TO PLAY OR I FALL BEHIND" bullshit like WOW - had enough of that crap, so i can put it down and pick it up at my leisure as opposed to as my second job, no monthly rip off fee.
But hey, I value my IRL time more than my ingame time.

Instead of hodre and alliance we can have Conservatives and Liberals.
Man just think of the possiblities.
Zones like the Bible Belt, Obamaville, crack ghettos etc. populated with charicatures of real life events and people.
We can have Dungeons with Bosses look like Moochelle and Pelosi and Bawney Fwank
We could have world events like national slut walk day where you dress your avatar up as slutty as possible and walk down the street chanting MY VAGINA SAYS NO!
We can have Islamic and Commie Invasions, as world events where the two sides have to work together.
Maybe faction reputations like Libertarian where you have to do a bunch of crazy quests where you say some nutty ass shit to advance.
We could have pvp arenas where we could beat the shit out of each
other online...
oh wait....its pretty much just like real life.

CAPTCHA is the random code words you type into the Captcha box they use to prevent spam. You have to type in the cases of the letters in order; ie capital letters and lower case letters.
If you don't see the captcha box, you may need to update Java and/or adjust your AdBlock setting to allow TheBlaze permission. (that is if you use AdBlock.)
I hope that made some sense.

All of this is true. I cannot see what game The Dude plays; I have had no lack of content, pre or post level 80. The PvP aspect is going to be the long-term play; all the PvE is for is to accomplish skill training, and making pretty armor sets. Of course you can make armor or find it that has the same stats as the rare skins, so it's not a Pay to Win scenario.
It would be nice if those who had expectations would state those expectations, instead of generic complaints. Reddit has a whole forum of people who wanted a game that was as developed as WoW, but not WoW, and cried about it.
