FACTCHECK: Obama Campaign Fundraising Still Sluggish
— Gabriel Malor

If you were to read the AP this morning, you could be forgiven for thinking that the President is an unstoppable fundraising juggernaut. He's not.

The Democrats took in about $42 million in the last quarter for the President's campaign and about $24 million for the DNC. Including a $1 million take for a state race fund, he had a combined total of about $68 million.

That's impressive, but not overwhelming. Particularly because just as the campaign season gets into full swing---even as Obama made two dozen taxpayer-funded campaign trips around the country---his much-discussed fundraising cachet is eroding. His combined total in the third quarter was $70 million. For the quarter before that it was $86 million. Anybody else sensing a trend here?

And Obama's draw, for all his supposed $1 billion campaign, is actually less than President Bush's in his final election. Remember, back when Bush was supposedly unpopular because of the Iraq War? In the fourth quarter of 2003 the Bush campaign raised almost $48 million. Adjusted for inflation that's $59 million, a whopping $17 million more than Obama.

Don't believe the lying media. Obama isn't inevitable and he's not a magic money machine.

30 Simple solution vote for Perry and not Romney. Posted by: Vic at January 12, 2012 08:21 AM (YdQQY) Vic, I understand what you mean, BUT: 1) We'd have to figure out how to get the other 99 Percent to go along with that, 2) Roger Simon - former Perry Supporter - has concluded his "dead mother is more qualified to be president" than Perry, something that I think is becoming increasingly clear to most people, and 3) Perry has gone off into Vulture Capital politics, mostly because he thinks populism will somehow salvage the damage his own ineptitude has wreaked on his presidential chances. There comes a time when you have to face reality not as you wish it was, but as it is. And I say that, as always, with respect to my fellow morons.

36 2008 was a perfect storm in Obama's favor.
The public was tired of war, tired of Bush. The economy took a downturn right before the election.
Obama was relatively unknown and presented himself as a moderate, post-racial candidate. Clean and articulate, good teleprompter reader. The MFM would not vet him.
We knew who he was, we looked into his background of commie mentors and his racist pastor, but the vast majority did not and were enthralled with the idea of the first black president.
Now the SCOAMT has a horrific record to defend. It's not 2008 anymore. The most encouraging poll I have seen is that the public fears his reelection by 2-1.

37 I decided to sit out the election when the crony capitalists prevented St. Sarah from running. Come to think of it, I'll actually be voting for Obama. To send my message and to prove my point about this RINO GOP RINO field of wimps, punks, Mexican lovers, Mormons and vaccine pushers. Glenn Beck warned us that this was a field of chumps and Beck was the smartest true conservative in his high school and at his AA meetings. What's "inevitable" is that we'll only lose slower with a RINO puke in office. That's why I voted for Dukakis. That's why I voted for Perot. That's why I voted for Gore. That's why I voted for Kerry. That's why I voted for Obama the first time around. When you're a true and pure conservative patriot hero, like me, you don't waste your vote on RINO GOP RINO punks. Everyone in my immediate family understands this. Palin-Miller-Buck-Paladino-Angle-DioGuardi-Paul-O'Donnell, '16.

52 I demand another candidate.  NONE of these jokers are what's called for, and if anybody that is a just merely acceptable to 'movement' conservatives decides to get in, he will roll to a win.

And if he gets in as late as mathematically possible, he will likely avoid a lot of the bruising fights and rolling around in the mud, and if it's a dramatic enough of a 'cavalry coming over the hill' moment, it may help in the general, too.

Broker that goddam' convention; choose ANYbody else in the smoke-filled back room; have a 'do over', and forget this nightmare of a primary season.

We can win against Obama.  And if we use this historic time and place to actually get a guy that is worth voting for, instead of settling for a guy that we have to hold our nose for just to vote AGAINST Obama, we may salvage the country.

Cue Paul Ryan; enter, stage right.

I told y'all this last night.  Obama is a loser.  The big money is not coming to him this time.  He can't sell out his fundraisers.  He is doing campaign events at high schools because only the kids goaded by their NEA teachers will show up and cheer him.  The MFM screwed him by projecting he would raise a billion dollars; he is going to fall so far short of that it will be hilarious.

The money is coming to the conservatve super-PACs now, and to Romney.  This will be by far the best-funded and organized GOP campaign we have ever seen.

68 Listening to the god-damned public radio station this afternoon and they had some professor spinning the fundraising issue like crazy. First it's awesome because Obama's going to raise a billion dollars because he's so awesome. Then it's bad that the Citizens United decision allows SuperPACs, because SuperPACs have been donating to Republican candidates and they're meanies.

And then the crowning dishonesty: interviewer asks if there are Democrat SuperPACs, and the prof says that so far this campaign most of their money has gone to Republicans.

Yeah, dumbass, because there's a hard-fought Republican primary while Obama doesn't have a serious challenger. Which means either this professor is a fucking idiot or he's being deliberately dishonest.

I'm going with dishonest, Alex. And that means the god-damned public radio interviewer is equally dishonest for not pointing this out.
