Its kind of been understood for a long time that its up to the locals anytime they want it.  There's been various runs at complete independence and statehood over the years but they've gone nowhere.  The locals understand that the deal they got now is the best financially.  Statehood/independence would mean taking responsibility for a lot of local shit the Federal govt pays for now.

Mitt doesn't like to talk about how he has helped others, because he sees it as a priveledge, not a political talking point. ... We are no different than the millions of Americans who quietly help their neighbors, their churches and their communities. They don't do it so that others will think more of them. They do it because there is no greater joy.

Good speaches are remembered for one or two good lines.  These two standout:

They believe in teacher's unions, we believe in teachers.

America has never been a victim of destiny, but master's of our own.

I think those will be the two people talk about. If people do, it will go down as a very successful speech.

Ann Romney looked absolutely beautiful. Loved the  shade of red she wore. Her speech was pretty good; a little too worshipful of women in the beginning (I hate ID  politics) and she did repeat herself ("he stil makes me laugh" and "high school dance") but very AMERICAN --  full  of the ideals that make this country great. I liked learning about her Welsh coal-mining dad who  became mayor in MI; that's the American Dream right there!

She's gorgeous and will make a wonderful First Lady... esp. afer the hag we've had for 4 years!

Look, even undecideds know Obama sucks.  The point of these speeches was to show them that the GOP isn't a party of extremists, like the media says.

Christie spoke about a lot of common truths that seemed to have been forgotten.  Ann let them (the undecideds) know that Mitt is a nice guy, not some rich, out of touch ogre.
