First-Hand Account From a 9/11 Survivor
— Ace

Gripping.

At the fortieth floor, we started coming in contact with firemen. They were saying, "C'mon, down you go! Don't worry, it's safe below." Most of them were stone-faced. Looking back, there were some frightened firemen.

When we got below the thirtieth floor, they started to bring down injured people from flights above. There was a guy with the back of his shirt burned off, a little burn on his shoulder. One woman had severe burns on her face.

We got down to the twentieth floor and a fireman said, "Does anyone know CPR?" I'm no longer certified, but I know it from college. That was ten years ago. You wouldn't want me on an EMT team, but if it comes down to saving somebody, I know how.

So me and this other guy volunteer. We helped this one heavy, older man who came down huffing and puffing, and we kept our eyes out for anyone else. "Do you need help? Do you need help?" Nobody needed help. The stairway became wide-open. It was time to go. The other guy took off in front of me. We were going pretty fast.

Have you ever been to the World Trade Center? There's a mezzanine level, then you go downstairs, which is subterranean, into this big mall. Our stairwell exited out onto that mezzanine level. At that point, I could look out across the plaza at 2 World Trade Center. That's when I realized the gravity of what had happened. I saw dead bodies everywhere, and none that I saw were intact. It was hard to tell how many. Fifty maybe? I scanned for a second and then focused on the head of a young woman with some meat on it. I remember my hand coming up in front of my face to block the sight. Then I took off. As I ran, people were coming out of another stairwell. I stopped and said, "Don't look outside! Don't look outside!" The windows were stained with blood. Someone who'd jumped had fallen very close to the building.

It felt like my head was going to blow up.

To this day people still say "It was like watching a movie."

And it was. For this reason: Because only in the movies do they make villains as psychopathically, nihilistically murderous and barbarous.

Large segments of our society still can't grasp that yes, monsters exist, and not just in the movies.

But...

It has allowed the Leftists to minimize what happened.

And enabled them to downplay the Evil nature of those who did this.

I did venture into the comments on the embassy invasion, and while there were a few mollycoddlers there, most people were outraged and there was *gasp* sharp criticism of a certain current US leader's foreign policies.

I think the Egypt thing is going to hurt the JEF and the Chicago strike is baaad for him too.

39 And those monsters still exist. They will continues to exist as long as we pander to the Muslim rioters who claim that any criticism of Islam or Allah or just not being Muslim justifies murder and mayhem.

As long as someone holds Islam to be the highest truth, whether or not they've ever drawn blood in it's name, is a danger to western civilization.

Why? Because they provide cover for those that do and they also provide the wellspring of zealots for the extremists to tap into.

Islam is not just a religion, it's a political system and it has one enduring goal for 1300 years; the Supremacy of Islam over the world.

If you or I or your kids have to die for that goal to be reached, Islam has no problem with that. In fact those that do commit murder and mayhem in the name of Islam and Allah are hailed heroes and then martyrs if they are killed.

ALL of those on those planes are considered Heroes and Martyrs by the adherents of Islam.

You can claim that there are moderate Islamists and I say that if they truly are:
1. They have to keep silent about it so their influence is nil.
2. They are apostate according to their own professed beliefs and thus are NON MUSLIMS in the eyes of their coreligionists.
3. They really have no religion. If they go to a mosque then they are living a lie and will be found out and attacked or punished for it.

One of the worst things that George Bush proclaimed that to this day hampers our efforts to combat these murderous savages is his line that; "Islam is a religion of peace".

Only if all fall under the sway of Islam and after Islam has murdered all the unfaithful will there be "peace" under Islam.

Mr. Panetta, when Bill Clinton lied under oath committing perjury, it WAS illegal, remains illegal, and he was impeached (though not prosecuted thereafter). When the President commits illegal acts, that is the height of illegal, he being the Chief Executive obligated to uphold and adhere to the Constitution, to enforce the Law.

47 There is more to Christianity than just turning the other cheek.

I know.  But there is also a difference in taking the necessary steps to defend one's self and one's way of life, and taking joy in hearing that a human being has died.

I don't like that part in me, but (God help me) I have no plans to change it, and the day the last devout* muslim dies is too far away from me.

*- The devout ones, by definition, are the militant ones.  It's in the Koran.  The ones who are "moderate" are, by definition, not devout.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) Channelling Breitbart at September 11, 2012 01:24 PM (8y9MW)

48 Trooferism is, for some, a way of pretending that the real evil people don't exist. They know it's a fiction, but cling to it to cope with the danger of the true evil. For others, it's political expedience. They're the truly reprehensible ones.

Certainly that's what I should feel- what I want to feel: sadness at the cost of a human life, but happiness that a threat to me and those I love has been removed.  It's what I believe I would feel about a more "traditional" military enemy.  I know it's what I feel about murderers and other criminals executed by the justice system.

It's not what I feel about terrorists.

When my family emigrated from England we lived in NYC for close to 10 years.. I've since moved to Chicago, but every time I returned to NYC, I was still startled by the 'gap' in Lower Manhattan's skyline......and the WHITE HOT RAGE would be re-ignited

About that young woman's video posted at Legal Insurrection? Where I previously said "I shouldn't have played it?" Truth to tell, I couldn't live with myself if I hadn't.............It's called verifying one's priorities in life.

NO. WE DON'T.

That's why I wrote what I wrote. Every Muslim country we've befriended in the interest of fighting the "Extremists" has stabbed us in the back.

They've helped murder our troops and citizens. Aided their fellow coreligionists in their pogroms and radicalization and even murdered the very troops that were training them to secure their country.

They deserve no mercy. They deserve no help. They will continue to stab us in the back (think this financial situation is just serendipitous?) until we get out of their reach.

It's why to my way of thinking; everyone who refuses to let us exploit our own energy resources is a traitor to this country and it's People.

111 An armed mob has attacked the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi and set fire to the building, witnesses reported, in what they said was a protest at a film they said offended Islam. A little earlier, Libya's deputy interior minister Wanis al-Shari, told AFP the crowd had attacked the building and that information was confirmed by the US embassy in the capital Tripoli. "There are fierce clashes between the Libyan army and an armed militia outside the U.S. consulate," Abdel-Monen Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee, said to Reuters, adding that roads had been closed off and security forces were surrounding the building. A U.S. embassy source said there had been "an attack" on the diplomatic office in Benghazi, but gave no further details.

124 The documentary that those two French film makers were doing on a plebe fireman turned into an amazing documentary of 9/11. There's a scene where they are inside Central Command, and you can hear all kinds of crashing sounds. Each crash is a person who jumped who's body landed on some kind of awning above their building. They eventually had to run for their lives too. 9/11 was a seminal moment in my life. I wasn't paying attention before, but it absolutely gobsmacked me that elections do matter. I never cared about politics before. I couldn't believe anyone could do that to us. I was particularly struck because the star quarterback of my college football team, Michael Horrocks, former Marine, was the co-pilot on Flight 175 which struck the second tower. He left behind a wife, a 9 year old daughter and a 6 year old son. R.I.P. Michael Horrocks.

There is a difference between killing someone and murdering someone.

170 I'd appreciate your telling me what I'm doing wrong - instead of just pointing out the obvious formatting fail

The problem mostly occurs when you cut'n'paste from one of the Microsoft Office products (Word or Outlook, predominately).  If you're composing there for spelling reasons, you'll want to cut from there, paste into a more basic text editor (notepad, for instance), then re-cut that and paste it here.

If you don't need the spell check, you can just write straight into the more basic text editor.

As a note, WordPad (if you're on a windows machine) is just a mini version of Word, and may (not sure if it will) have the same problem.

177 I'd appreciate your telling me what I'm doing wrong - instead of just pointing out the obvious formatting fail Posted by: alwyr at September 11, 2012 05:55 PM (Oh5R1) As far as links, that's because trolls were using the code that makes "live" links to break the blog, so that had to be shut down. As far as the formatting, it's (almost certainly) an IE bug when you paste into IE from some other MS product (Word, for example), it carries the formatting information as plain text. MS has known about the bug for years. Some sites that have, you know, budgets, have been able to code around it. But Pixy provides the coding for free, so what do you want for nothing? The alternative is to either not use Word or not use IE. Some people copy from Word to Notepad before copying to IE, to strip the formatting.

Last year on the 10th anniversary, I watched some of the amateur videos of 9/11 that are posted on YouTube.  It was gut-wrenching.  Seeing dozens of people standing at blown-out windows, 90 or more stories up, waving frantically for help.  Some had stripped down to their underwear, because of the intense heat from the fires.

In some of the videos of the mezzanine levels, you can see the blood-streaked and spattered  windows on the ground floor level where so many of the jumpers/fallers landed.

There's also a 911 audio recording of a guy named Cosgrove, trapped on one of the floors with some other  people from nearby offices.  He is scared and frustrated, but trying to keep it together.  He mentions that he and the other men have young children at home, and are not ready to die today.  The last sound on the tape is his blood-curdling scream as the tower collapses.

Awful.

Science Fiction is...
A belief in the future.
A belief that technology is, like books, like art, like music, the accumulated wisdom of our species...and should be used.
A belief that the builders always outnumber the destroyers.
A belief that while clever apes can turn new inventions into weapons—wiser apes can turn weapons into improved plowshares.
A belief that thinking about the future is not escape from reality.
ItÂ’s intelligent planning.

OH, it happens with Firefox too. Not just I.E. (Internet Error)

Cut and paste from other comments here, articles on other sites, stuff composed as we noted on any word processor that formats the text.

What's really fun is that it may or may not show up in your comment box looking bad.

I always recommend that you click the icon to the far right in the menu bar above the commenting box (that's a less than and a greater than sign) that will open another little box where you can see the actual encoding that will get posted.

You can then remove the erroneous formatting (if you know you're html/formatting entities) and clean it all up.

Then return to the comment box and insert the spaces, Carriage returns and line feeds that YOU want to show up.

easey peasey.

235 No. I'm pretty sure the "Arabs" would be a lot more advanced if they (still) spoke Greek and/or Latin.

236 But the scimitar is a very efficient pedagogical tool...

237 I hope 238 was /s considering the Christians sects are discussing the meaning of various Greek words still after 1800 years.

238 You mean like Moses and Jesus were fluent in those languages?

Okay, so evacuate the embassies and close all diplomatic relations.

I know, ain't gonna happen but that's what I'd do.

Posted by: ErikW at September 11, 2012 06:16 PM (BrzVu)

Works for me.

And kick their embassies out of here, too.

240 242 That's theology.

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at September 11, 2012 02:35 PM (lEcZh)

241 234 If you're trying to convince me that George W Bush is brilliant, then you've totally misread my comment. I am in the last 300 that never wavered or went soft on GWB. Am I reading you wrong?

Posted by: Welshorne Skroat III at September 11, 2012 02:36 PM (p4etW)

242 243 Jesus spoke Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Koine Greek, and theology probably wouldn't be what it was if it hadn't been.

243 Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.

Nice dodge, junior.

Posted by: IdowhatIwant at September 11, 2012 02:38 PM (B93TY)

245 246 It seemed to me that while you were supportive of him, you slightly caved in to the culture and "misunderestmated" his intellect. Snark can be a powerful "former of opinion."

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at September 11, 2012 02:38 PM (lEcZh)

246 249 What's the dodge, senior? Are you saying Moses spoke Arabic? It seemed to me there were some gaps in your knowledge, so I volunteered to fill them in.

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at September 11, 2012 02:39 PM (lEcZh)

247 Cracked.com did a really good debunking of truthers and especially of that asshole who made the "Loose Change" movie.

248 Let it never be spoken in any man's presence who honors the fallen that the United States will ever forget, or ever forgive what happened on this day. Let it never be spoken that American might will ever for a moment fail to smite any enemy so foolish as to think they might scar our honored country.

Let it never be spoken, at any time, or in any place, that America hasn't the resolve to obliterate such a fool from God's Earth, should he take the terrible step toward harming our fellow men.

All these years on, ye fools who believed America weak and having no endurance for the long march, ye fools who reside in the firey pits of Hell, remember your brethren. For it is they who we kill this very night. As we slew YOU and your cohort in payment of your evil deeds. For let this man assure you, we remember. And we shall never forget.

Sorry, but I have to ask.  Does this also apply to the enemies within?

250 Actually the Qu'ran was written in Aramaic.

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at September 11, 2012 02:44 PM (FsGME)

251 253 Probably not. Look at how far Leftism has Progressed!!!. No one really gives a shit. Too busy talking about more important things, like how mentally ill people should be gassed, or Arabs should be gassed, or whatever.

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at September 11, 2012 02:45 PM (lEcZh)

252 255 I think the version of the Koran (why the PC orthography?) we have now is in "Classical" Arabic. I'm not sure about any intermediate or previous versions.

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at September 11, 2012 02:46 PM (lEcZh)

253 250 I don't know how it could seem that way. Shit I even put "affecting a positive change" in scare quotes and that seemed to get by you. I was using a device in which I describe Bush as the opposite of Obama and was painted by the press as incompetent. Then I even gave you some of the things that made Obama opposite like "stammering amateur". If you saw me in person, and accidentally accused me of being swayed by the press on Bush's lack of intelligence, my red face would not be because of embarrassment. It would be a harbinger. No hard feelings though.

254 258 Look, I had some thoughts. I wrote them down. They weren't necessarily all about you.

Jew46, very well-stated.    I'd quibble only with one thing:

"Only if all fall under the sway of Islam and after Islam has murdered all the unfaithful will there be "peace" under Islam."

There wouldn't be peace under Islam even then, they would then turn on each other.   Look how Shia and Sunni kill each other right now.    Islam is an insatiable death cult.   It must be extinguished.

I think the last few chapters were written in Toledo / Milwaukeeish.

That's some difficult shit to understand.

"95The best thing we could do to fight terrorism is drive oil down to $20/bbl and drive the entire Arab Muslim world back into a nomadic existence"

A good fiction, but that Jinn is out of the bottle and we will remain vunerable. The human element, that of voilent persuation remains. The best thing would be to target each and every madrass, iman, ayatollah, sheik, believer and supporter  and would be potentate until Islam as a religion is not even whispered as a viable system.

263 We have got to, positively, kill each and every one of these cocksuckers that dreamed this up, supported it, funded it, helped it, didn't stop it, or allowed it to proceed in any way. They are cowards, barbarians, death worshipers and  they are not fit to share this world with us. Death to all Islamist murderers!

264 Actually, it was NOT like watching a movie.

I had no idea what a vast gulf there is between the celluloid and the REAL thing.

But I saw it in person, not on TV.

Combat veterans are right: if you weren't there, you can only imagine, and that feebly -- the reality is a thousand times worse and more shocking. (I say this not to diss anyone who wasn't an eyewitness; just reporting how it was.)

265 My friend Angela, one of those shepherded out by the valiant Rick Rescorla from Morgan Stanley (north tower), said the people jumping exploded on the sidewalk like paintballs. Body parts carpeted the plaza, which was slippery with gore even before the towers imploded.

266 Terrible day = 9/11/2001.

Three years later my fiance and I were married on 9/11. After hunting around for a place/day to plan our wedding and thinking about it, we realised that getting married on 9/11 celebrated life, America, freedom... all the things that those terrorists hated, so that's what we did. We had a lovely ceremony and a moment of silence and I think about the good and the bad of that date every year. I think of it as honouring the memory of those who never got to see their families again by saying to the Islamofascists - 'You don't own this fucking day, assholes.'
