We're going over the cliff. If the Republicans offfet TFG exactly what he is demanding, he will sinply raise his demands (Past performance being the best predictor of future behavior), and the failure to reach a deal will be 100% blamed on the "intransigent Republicans".
Also , mebbe 1st?

Nothing will be solved. Because from a practical standpoint, the problem is unsolvable.

You cannot even call these pathetic actions stopgaps anymore, they're honestly just playing hot potato with the country itself. The deal DOES suck because no one in charge has the courage, or, perhaps more importantly, the inclination to do what actually needs doing.
Grab a poker, prod the fire, sit, muse, and pray. There is naught else to be done.

Quite true, and the only way to make a path out of this is to let the country feel the pain of the poor decisions we've made.
Never thought I'd see these kind of times when I was growing up. I stop and wonder, from time to time, what folks felt like back in the Dust Bowl, or in the prelude to WWII, or in 1776, for that matter, when everything just seemed to be going straight to hell.

Obama's doing the only things he knows: gives speeches to his adoring fans and wage class warfare.
My prediction is the same as a month ago: over the cliff we go.
Just look at how it went back in Gingrich's days. He spent countless hours over many weeks working out a deal with Clinton. Obama wouldn't even know how, if he wanted to (which he doesn't). Trash the economy, and blame capitalism. It's Rules for Radicals 101, applied to his application of Cloward-Piven. To presume that Obama wants this to happen is to assume erroneous things, such as a concern on his part for the economy and unemployment.
It takes Presidential leadership to get this done - or strong leadership in the legislature - and we have neither. I don't think either side is even interested in making a deal, and the public literally voted for gridlock. It is also literally too late - procedurally - to avoid "the cliff". Why is anybody even pretending that it might not happen?

No matter what happens, Republicans need to speak with a single voice.
Congratulate President Obama on his successful support of his program. Period. Let him own it, own it all.
There will be a failed economy this year, despite whatever the outcome of this fiscal cliff avoidance mechanism.
Let Obama own the economy.
And then all Republicans need to stop spending. Just stop on all those luxuries, discretionary purchases, and then deposit disposal income instead of spending it.

That is only partially true. Once they get into that environment, (Washington DC) They are surrounded by people who make their living off the government, or make their living catering to the government and people who are members of that social set.
The peer pressure surrounding them is all unidirectional. Towards bigger government and more spending. They may not start out in favor of it, but the stream certainly moves them in that direction.

What I don't get is why everybody keeps harping about what a crappy hand the Republicans have. They're the only ones even trying to get even a little fiscal responsibility (which the public seems to be for), they were specifically voted in exactly for that, and the media will blame them for everything and anything, no matter what. Why should they give a single inch?
Most of the public couldn't even tell you what the "fiscal cliff" is. People also keep saying how the public has turned left, because Obama got re-elected, but Romney won the Independents, and 2/3 of the white vote. All 2012 told us is that minorities will turn out to vote for the non-white candidate, no matter how much that candidate has cost them, or how incompetent and anti-American they are. Most don't even know what the economic issues are, or simply don't care. They were even offended by his gay marriage turnaround.

Galaxy Quest was on yesterday. I like that movie.
There's a scene where the countdown is almost up, and they press the button with seconds to spare, but it does nothing. As they prepare for their doom, it gets down to 1 second, then stops, and they realize the countdown ALWAYS stops with 1 second to spare.
Oh nooooo! We hit the button, but the fiscal cliff, she still is cliffing!!

Nice trolling, dickwad. The only federal taxes any average person pays is income tax and gasoline tax. Sales and property taxes and license fees are State taxes.
Now get back to sucking; that glory hole line is getting kinda long.
Posted by: GnuBreed at December 31, 2012 10:26 AM (ccXZP)
Not quite true.
They still pay sales tax, property tax if they own, and various fees for permits and what not.
Why the fuck is income tax the only one that counts? If you are poor as dirt the taxes and fees I mentioned keep you that way.

_____________
Dumbass, all those things you mentioned are state/local taxes. The 47% don't pay a dime towards the federal govt....you know where this whole fiscal debate thingy is happening. Federal govt spends $3T a year. Of that $3T, 47% contribute absolutely nothing.
PS: You're a fucking imbecile

I had this discussion when cash for clunkers was happening. Guy in his 50s, very well off. I said this is the stupidest thing ever. It just takes future sales and brings them upfront. He said, oh no it works. My son bought a car because of it. I said, OK well why did he buy it? He said, because his old car was falling apart and he needed a new car. So I said, well wouldn't he have bought a car without c4c if he needed a new car? So he says, yeah, but he bought it sooner so c4c is a great program.
I just walked away.
