Five Democrats Join Republicans In House Vote To Repeal ObamaTax
— Ace

Bipartisan, bitches.

The CNN headline says the move is a "purely political gesture." Here's the full CNN headline: "In a purely political gesture, House Republicans vote to repeal President Obama's signature health care reform law. "

That's not even the most biased headline on ObamaTax you'll read today.

At Politico, five governors have declared they won't expand Medicaid per ObamaTax's requirement (a requirement struck down by the Supreme Court).

How does Politico report the news that five southern governors indicated their decision?

Southern governors secede from Medicaid

Secede, I get it. Like the Civil War. Because they hate blacks.

Because, you know, opposition to ObamaTax is racially "intolerant."

Thanks to @rdbrewer4 for the "secede" catch, and @slublog for screencapping it.

Bonus Bias! Here's a great media headline:

119 77 @74, very odd indeed. I wonder why they didn't include a northern governor like Walker? It's almost like they're trying to craft a narrative that would help shape the news to lessen lefty butthu7rt.

I thought a few other non-southern governors made similar statements, but I wasn't sure how far they went. There's Walker and there's Iowa's Branstad, who is a perfectly milquetoast Republican moderate who's been driven pretty far right by this administration.

128 Let's get this straight... According to Dems it is now "intolerant" for the Governors to agree with-- all of the Supreme Court Justices except Ginsburg that the Medicaid funding threat of the Affordable Care Act was-- unconstitutional. This was something that even Justice Kagan and Justice Breyer found. This is from the syllabus of the decision- 5. CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS, joined by JUSTICE BREYER and JUSTICE KAGAN, concluded in Part IV that the Medicaid expansion violates the Constitution by threatening States with the loss of their existing Medicaid funding if they decline to comply with the expansion. Pp. 45–58.

OK, so Ras was showing a virtual tie (+1 lead) of Romney over Obama and then this. What's going on?

Of course, it could be an outlier. Even with perfect methodology, 1 out of every 20 polls is garbage.

But is Nelson that awful or Mack that wonderful that you'd have a significant number of people clamoring for Connie Mack (not the original, his son I believe) over the incumbent?

I think they don't like Obama or anything he stands for, but for various reasons there are people who haven't committed yet to telling a pollster they want nothing to do with him.  I'm going to have to look at Senate race numbers in the future, but I can't help thinking that in swing states the R candidate will be doing much much better than Romney for this reason.

I'm very interested in PA.  Bob Casey, Jr. got elected last time based mostly on his dad's reputation as a pro-life Dem.  Well, Casey voted for Obamatax, has been nowhere on the pro-life front and basically nobody in PA even knows what he looks like. About the same for me.  Sorry.

200 Amish Dude Connie Mack is a well respected name in Florida--still the difference is significant. There might be a bit of what you notice going on--Bradley effect because even though the AA vote will turn out significantly more for Obama for the obvious reasons, that and down ticket drop off really can't account for the 9% difference, imo. Even when you toss in the MOE because this is a different sample taken at a different time--the difference is still significant.

I've written the commie bastard several times.  Once I asked him if he was one of the jackasses clapping like a drunken seal for the Mexican President during a Joint Session of Congress address by Ogabe.  While he did answer, it was incoherent.  Asked him again and told him if he was that he was an anti-American SOB.  Mabye that's why he didn't answer the follow-up letter.

After he is defeated he will probably go into clown pron.

212 Possibly, most likely... I only get the starting blurb--the margin of error is +/- 4.5% So if it is the same sample of respondents the difference between Romney's results and Mack's could be well-- Romney really could be at 5.5%+ of Obama and Mack could really be only 4.5% ahead of Nelson--I don't think the 1% difference when you do that operation is significant.

213 MORE  @ TaxTV:

Hidden Tax Advantages for Same-Sex Couples

To break it down a bit more, the Internal Revenue Code assumes that people with shared financial interests may try to use one another for tax advantages, such as by transacting business with one another. For this reason, the Code contains numerous provisions that forbid related people from taking advantage of such transactions. But still as of 2012, the Code does not recognize same-sex married couples as being related, and so they are not subject to such provisions. This opens up a world of opportunities.

“Gay marriage by itself never invokes any related-party rules –taxpayer-favorable or anti-abusive,” wrote Thedore Seto, Professor of Law at Loyola Law School  Los Angeles and author of The Assumption of Selfishness in the Internal Revenue Code: Reframing the Unintended Tax Advantages of Gay Marriage. One such example, if you try to sell property that has risen in value, you must report the entire gain to the IRS. But if a woman in a same-sex union first buys the property from her partner using a genuine bank note, she can then sell the property to a third-party buyer for cash, pay off the debt and walk away completely even, without having to pay tax on any of the appreciated value. For large property transactions, this can save same-sex couples a fortune. Heterosexual married couples cannot get away with this, according to Section 453(e) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Another example relates to debt...

214 I'm very interested in PA. Bob Casey, Jr. got elected last time based mostly on his dad's reputation as a pro-life Dem. Well, Casey voted for Obamatax, has been nowhere on the pro-life front and basically nobody in PA even knows what he looks like. He's a complete dud. I guess he's polling OK, I don't know. Posted by: AmishDude at July 11, 2012 05:46 PM (J5tI6) ******* IIRC last time I checked he was polling well ahead. The damn power of incumbency which still doesn't explain Nelson. It's quite possible Florida is....looking good. I'm off to go take a look at Casey's latest polling.

Evenin' all.

Have not yet read the comments, so maybe this has already been said and I am, as usual, really, really late to the party.  But I just wonder if putting the idea of seccession into the heads of people in the more conservative part of the country is really what they really want to do, long term.  I mean, the South said, "Fuck y'all!" before and has little love for Yankees now...

They got their snark in today.  I just wonder if they'll have cause to regret it somtime in the next 10-15 years.

217 “Right now, understandably — totally legitimate — this is a referendum on Obama and Biden and the nature of the state of the economy,” Biden said.

Polls indicating that more Americans blame Bush for the economy than Obama are not relevant, Biden said.

“Even though fifty-some percent of the American people think that the economy tanked because of the last administration, that’s not relevant,” Biden stressed. “What’s relevant is we’re in charge. And right now we are the ones in charge and it’s gotten better, but it hasn’t gotten good enough.”

“I don’t blame them for being mad. We’re in charge,” Biden explained.

220 Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, and Dems consider race-card playing to be patriotic (i.e. it's speaking "truth to power"). Note: would any conservative/libertarian care about things like this if CNN/Politico just admitted they were "left-leaning" (LOL) like MSNBC/Huff Post? I don't think so. It's the lie that's the problem. And it's the lying that is really the last refuge of the scoundrel...whatever card or flag he's covering his lies in.

But is Nelson that awful or Mack that wonderful that you'd have a significant number of people clamoring for Connie Mack (not the original, his son I believe) over the incumbent?

____

Connie Mack IV - or Quattro, as our former local radio hostess dubbed him - is our congresscritter.  And no, he is not the original.

Senator Connie Mack III and Priscilla used to attend our church, and my parents knew them.  Although my dad thought Senator Mack was a bit of a squish on the abortion issue - and told him so to his face after Mass more than once - Dad had a lot of respect for the way he has stood by Priscilla with her cancer issue.

I was friends with his sister Debbie when we went to Bishop Verot High School together, and we ran into each other again when we moved into the same condo complex in Cape Coral after we both had been married and divorced with 2 children each.   You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer person.  We spent more than one Saturday afternoon by the pool complaining about men.

I don't know Quattro, but a very good friend of mine used to live down the street from them.   She babysat him when he was in elementary school and she says he was a right little terror.

I think you can still see the mischievous gleam in his eye today.

He hasn't been a bad Congressional rep - IMHO his dad was better - but he'd certainly be a hell of an improvement over Bill Nelson, whom I think took Joe Biden's place as the dumbest man in the Senate.  I'm certain Quattro would be a solid vote for Obamatax repeal.  And that's reason enough to vote for him.  Happy to see in this poll a good number of Floridians joining in that opinion.  Hope it continues!
